Moreno's is a local Mexican restaurant that is located very close to my neighborhood in middle Pearland. This is one of two locations in the general area. They popped up as a stand alone restaurant not too long ago, so my family and I checked it out to have some variety from our usual spots. Parking is plentiful. Even when it's busy, you can't tell because the place is pretty large. Customer service was ok. Our waiter was friendly, but we had to ask for things multiple times and they did not check in on us often which lead to lots of empty glasses throughout the meal. One thing this place has is a lot of variety. It shouldn't be too hard to find something that piques your interest. They start you off with chips and salsa like most other places. The green and red salsas were solid but I was missing a little heat. My go to dish at most Tex-Mex spots is chimichangas and is usually how I gauge the restaurants staying power on my return list. I got mine with beef fajita. To me it was just ok. Not bad by any means, but nothing really stood out to me. The rice and charro beans served with it was ok too. My family seemed to enjoy their food with no major complaints. Overall, this was not a bad visit, but there was nothing that really wowed me. For close proximity to my house, I may return. read more

Came here on 07/10/24. This was one of the few places with power that was serving people. Arrived right at lunch time and there wasn't too many people inside. Walked in and was seated with no problem. The waitress came with chips and salas and took our order. The kitchen did take a while to get the food out. I'm assuming they were short staffed in the kitchen. The waitress did apologize more than once for the wait. When the food did come out it was hot and fresh. I had the trio enchiladas. I really like the chicken and cheese one. The ground beef one didn't really have any flavor. The rice and beans were also very good and honestly better than I was expecting. Let me start with my party of four was the only ones there except for their buddy at the br. The bar tender basically ignored us as we looked at the menu, my son and I walked up to order and the bar tender was acting as if we should know all the beers they offer, I asked one question about the bill ( respectively) And the dude acting very upset getting aggressive telling me he wasn't cheating us while I'm signing the check. Prices were not bad at all! Much cheaper than other places in Houston. I ordered the enchiladas with mole sauce. The mole sauce was delicious. The beans and rice we missing flavor and the red salsa with chips was mild. I did have to flag down another waiter for a tea refill. The place was busy. We finally checked out Moreno's and used their coupon (fajitas for 2 combo beef and chicken). Even before we walked in, there was a waterfall and small bridge. Inside there was colorful decorations. Their salsa that came with the chips was good and spicy. The fajitas were flavorful and they had homemade corn and flour tortillas. We asked for extra tortillas and they gave us for free. We got our food and mine and my sisters dinners weren't even hot. Told the server and asked for a ToGo box so I can warm my food up at home. I asked for lettuce and tomatoes to eat there so at the least, I could eat with my family. So disappointed. It didn't seem to be all that important that the food wasn't hot. Nice place. We had the San Luis Special, ultimate margaritas, babacoa plate, pazole rojo. The only negative was that it smelled as if they recently had plumbing issues, but they did a great job of attempting to mask the smell with incense. Our waiter Beto was noce and attentive. Used to be one of my favorite places to eat. Lately, the takeout service has been lacking. I have had items missing out of my orders. Their menudo was one of the best I had ever had until my last 2 orders. The honey combis overcooked, and too large to eat in a spoon, making for a choking Hazzard! I always request extra homeny, which is NEVER added. I have called after getting the wrong orders. Met with oh, we are so sorry, but no change is ever made! Usually me and my husband go to Lilas cuz their Menudo is clean at least its of greasy. But yesterday i want to try morenos and I saw they have menudo. The menudo is way too greasy the grease even get dry in side of the bowl. I bought the small one which is 9.99. Price is high for the food. The spanish rice is also swimming in oil. So I never had any intention on eating here but while I was busy at work I became very hungry and decided Door dash was my ticket. I ordered the Taco Salad with shredded chicken and queso for the dressing. I still needed to add $0.50 for free shipping so stuffed Jalepenos it was, not 50 cents but let's try something else I thought. TACO SALAD 8/10 Served in hard taco shell, mixed garden salad. -GROUND BEEF OR SHREDDED CHICKEN. -CHICKEN FAJITAS -BEEF OR COMBO FAJITAS STUFFED JALAPEÑOS 4/10 Fried jalapeños served over mixed salad and 2 oz. of chile con queso The order arrived ahead of schedule, way to go Door dash. The jalepenos were first up, they were on the cold side but were still ok. Jack in the Box's peppers are way better just for reference. So on to what I really wanted, opened up the box and you could literally not see any salad, it was a good thing though, there was a ton of shredded chicken on the salad. Went right in and tried the beans, really good Charro beans. Took a look at the main dish and was disappointed at the appearance. The sauce had broke, shrimp were unseasoned and just thrown on the top. The onions and peppers had not received much attention as they were barely cooked. Cut up the chicken breast and it was clearly over cooked by a lot. Had a slight off color indicating that it was precooked and reheated to order. Oh well, it was hot and I was hungry, so I ate it all. The taste was ok, not really anything that stood out about this dish besides the beans. Tortillas are homemade but not very good. Not worth the $13 I spent on it. The meals are served with chips, red and green sauce. The red sauce is really good. FAJITAS NIEVES 6/10 Beef or Chicken fajitas topped with mushrooms, onions, bell pepper, cilantro sauce & melted Monterrey Jack cheese, pico, guacamole, rice and choice of beans. Just tried this dish out and it has the same overcooked chicken breast and raw onions but the Cilantro sauce with the jack cheese is pretty good. It is the best dish I have had from them so far. We had a large family gathering to celebrate a birthday earlier this month. I read the reviews beforehand and figured my husband and I would play it safe and order something simple. Let me first start by saying the restaurant is new, clean and nicely decorated. We were promptly greeted and seated with the party. When my husband ordered drinks for the two of us and my sister in law asked for a coke, the waitress said something rude that my husband would not repeat to me. He was startled, and asked he to repeat herself. She apparently caught herself and began to apologize profusely. I ordered the chicken nachos and my husband a taco salad...remember playing it safe. Others in the group had fajitas, queso, enchiladas, etc.. When the food arrived, another waitress said "Here!" to my in laws seated across from us. Really??...Ma'am, Sir and excuse me still work in the restaurant/Customer Service field. The taco salad was sad. Iceberg/carrot mix with sprinkles of cheese and half cooked chicken in a taco salad shell. Failure. The nachos were tolerable. The refried beans appeared to be puréed. I sampled my niece's beef fajitas. Failure..extremely tough and lacked flavor. I suppose the self serve ice cream was a hit for the kids. Obviously, we will not be returning. read more

Was looking for some local Mexican food that was different from the usual and stumbled upon Moreno's. I think this is the type of place that it really depends on what you get. Shrimp tacos are delicious. Fish tacos not so much. The fish smelled and tasted rancid so I couldn't finish. The nachos for almost $9 was a stingy serving- 8 chips covered in cheese. Queso was watered down an lacked flavor. Chips were thin and crispy which was tasty. I was hopeful based on customer service over these phone but the product was pretty disappointing. read more

Brand new, and already underrated! This is the Tex-Mex food I grew up with: flavorful, copious, and affordable. No more trendy, expensive lunches for us! Some reviews said the food was bland, and while I will admit the beans could hold more flavor, the rest of our meal was spot on. The staff are very friendly, and make you feel like family when you walk in the door. Our server was very kind to our children and treated them like adorable, small adults. They were quick to refill our drinks and bring more chips before being asked. Everyone had a smile ready for us. Lastly, the decor of the place is festive, colorful and interesting. The kids loved pointing out all the different tiles embedded in the walls and the murals on the table, walls, windows, even on the back of the high chairs! I will never go back to Moreno's in Pearland! First time I went there a few months ago I was with a group of women and we had issues due to the fact that the owner would not take responsibility for the semantics (that would have been approved by him/her) on the coupon printed in the local paper. We have chosen not to go there as a group again. Second, I returned today individually for lunch. I have a MEDICAL CARD due to a surgery requesting a children's meal since I cannot eat a full adult meal. I was informed that the owner requires an extra $1.00 be charged because I am over 12. I showed the card from my doctor's office, however I was informed that the owner does not care that you are ordering based on a medical condition or any other reason. You must pay the extra fee. IT SEEMS THE OWNER IS MORE CONCERNED ABOUT LINING HIS/HER OWN POCKETS WITH MONEY THAN HE/SHE DOES ABOUT PATRONS! I will drive the extra mile and go to any of the other tex-mex restaurants in Pearland where the request is honored without question and the food is a better quality. read more

Finally tried this place as I figured they had been open long enough to work the bugs out. The place was pretty empty on a Tuesday night, maybe five other tables. We ordered two margaritas and some queso to start and the chips were good and the salsa and green sauce were ok but nothing special. The margaritas and queso were good so our hopes were up. I did later realize that the margaritas had very little alcohol in them but it was happy hour and they were only $3.75. I ordered the flautas and my wife ordered a plate that had a chalupa, a crispy taco, and a cheese enchilada. Our food came out quickly and hot. I can say we sampled each other's and came to the conclusion that everything was really bland. My flautas were greasy and had absolutely no flavor. The cheese enchilada was the only thing that was even mildly tasty. With so many Mexican food eateries in Pearland, you really have to bring an A game and Moreno's clearly did not. read more

Been here a couple times. Food is on par with the other Tex-Mex restaurants in the area, but I ordered food Togo and wanted extra salsa so I paid extra for salsa. What I got was the larger salsa in this picture and nothing else. I had to ask for additional, which would have come with it anyway and got the two little ones. My wife said this is normal but I thinks it's annoying. I paid 3.50 for a small bowl of salsa which I would've normally gotten for free if I sat down. This place gets a bad rap, unfortunately it's not all true. People say "I understand they just opened but" then continue to rip the place to shreds. I'll be very blunt and honest here 1. Service is incredible and friendly 2. Seated fast, got drinks quick and had fun polite convo with my bartender 3. Everything is done very day 1 by the book so it takes a little longer(jiggers for shots, salt on rim applying) kinks that will naturally be worked out 4. The food is VERY sub par for the price, they offer the feel of a taqueria with the delivery of gringos. The onions and peppers weren't cooked so they were extremely tough and bold- rookie mistake. 5. I do have to agree with the 2 stars rating most people have given. This spot opened up recently and we're always willing to try a new spot. Unfortunately, we probably won't be back. The parking lot was packed on this Friday night at 6 so we expected a wait. Luckily when we got inside it wasn't that busy. For a party of 4 we were seated within 5 minutes. We were greeted by our server, a sweet lady. We immediately placed our order since we were on a time crunch. However, after this it went downhill. It took about 20 minutes to get our margaritas. I will say, they were strong (at least mine was). Our waitress informed us that she couldn't believe how slow the bartender was going. It appears they were short staffed. Some of the kitchen crew didn't show up - not sure what's up with that. They've been open for three weeks so these kinks shouldn't be happening. Service was great. We got checked on multiple times by our server as well as other staff members (asking if we wanted more chips or water). They had a great kids option for my daughter - bean burrito. She liked that. My son got the bean and cheese nachos. These were definitely not nachos. They were more like a tostada. He said it was just okay. My husband got the recommended Chimichangas. Sadly it was burnt and the chicken was severely over cooked. I went with the #28 - a beef soft taco and a flauta (without beans and rice - which was perfect for me). Mine was great.
