Tom from Morris Garage Door installed a new Genie opener for me in March 2015. The house is a rental, and I just wanted the job done without disrupting my tenant's life, so I told him to install a quality opener. Tom selected a high end Genie belt drive because our rental is in an expensive neighborhood in Irvine. The bill was $975. I was shocked at the expense, and thought, oh well, should be good garage door lift, will last for many years, move on. The opener recently stopped working- 5 1/2 years is not my expected life span for a garage door opener. I tried to re-program the remotes and wall console, but the programming function would not respond. I decided to call in a new company to service the opener. The motherboard is possibly bad, and I decided to cut my losses and get a new garage door opener. The bill for a new garage door opener (top of line Lift Master) is $650 installed (plus additional remotes and a wireless keypad was $750), which seems reasonable. My advice is to get multiple estimates, and do not instruct Tom to install a "quality opener" without checking a price, that was my bad. read more

I needed the springs replaced on my sectional garage so I called Morris based on the reviews on Yelp. I talked to Tom and he said he could service it that morning and quoted me a price of $250- $350 to replace the springs. When he got there he was real nice and very knowledgeable. Upon further review of my garage, though, he said I had a steel door that was foam filled and that he would have to charge me the cost of repairing a wood door, $450. Yikes! Well he was already there and had his tools out so I told him ok. I regret it now because I called another garage service company in Irvine after he left and he quoted me a price of the same door for $195 and a lifetime warranty. I'm glad I got my garage door fixed but I didn't appreciate the last minute "upcharge". Nice guy though, like I said, but I won't be calling him for any garage service again. When we needed another remote recently for a different car, I called Tom and he said "Jim, just come by the shop, and save a house call charge!" This is typical of Tom. He will do everything he can to give you quality, service AND value. I ran by his place on the East Side of Costa Mesa, and Tom took the time to show me how easy it was to program the new remote (it was a breeze) but also took the time to ask about the family, talk about our kids being in school, and just plain cared. I phoned Morris Garage Door at 5:00pm on a Monday as I had a sales person from another garage door co in my garage diagnosing the problem as door was not opening. I then noticed the Morris Garage Door phone number on the unit as had installed it 10-13 yrs ago, so I phoned and Tom answered. I explained the situation and asked if there was anyway he could come out "now" and see what the problem is as the other company wouldn't repair the door until Saturday and maybe he could diagnose and give me a quote as well. To my surprise Tom said "yes" and arrived by 6:15pm!! Tom quickly diagnosed and corrected the problem by replacing 2 parts at a reasonable price and the garage door was up and running within 20 minutes!! The other garage door company was going to replace the motor, and not the parts that were faulty, for $439.99, more than twice as much as Morris Garage Door. I called Tom to replace my opener after he was recommended by a family member. Tom was responsive initially and came out within a couple of days to replace it. He charged $750 for the job which is what I was quoted from another company, however the other company was going to install a top of line Liftmaster but Tom installed a low level Genie that was $200 less than the Liftmaster. By the time I figured this out it was already installed so I put that one on me for not checking I suppose because I mentioned the $750 quote (I'll never do this again). However, 9 months later the keypad stopped working so I called Tom and he gave me the runaround for over a month to come out to fix and four phone calls later I decided to order a new keypad off Amazon for $23 and fixed it in 5 minutes. I wish he would have just told me it was a simple fix instead of telling me he would come out every week for four weeks with not showing. Based on other reviews it appears Tom pulls the "install the cheap Genie" move quite often and after he makes his easy money he vanishes when it come to maintenance. I do not recommend him due to his unethical business practices and lack of follow through. My family member will not be using him anymore, either. read more

Great Service! Our garage motor quite working and I called Tom at Morris Garage and they were able to give me options and approximate costs right over the phone. I had phoned another company and they looked at the garage and said the entire thing had to be replaced without even looking at the motor or attempting to find the source of the problem. Used this company on recommendation from my parents. Wish I hadn't. 2 years ago, they installed (on their recommendation) a garage door system (Mantec 7700). It was good. But 2 years later, I found out the whole story and its upsetting to me. Recently we started getting problems not being able to shut the door. Turned out it was just a sensor alignment/vibration issue (which we found out through another company). But the issue I have is with Morris. When we called up Morris GD, they didn't remember us and revealed the Mantec 7700 is TEN YEARS OLD and parts are VERY hard to come by. When I asked why his company would install a ten year old model in my house just two years ago, he said 'he'd look into it". Well, a couple days later, didn't hear from him. Asked him to come up and find out why we can't open/shut our door. MGD's response -- "I don't service that area. Its too far. If I'm up in that area for some reason in the next few weeks or so, I'll try to come by". Now, besides that just being horrible customer service and not giving me the whole story on the product, I asked him why he answered my call for installation two years ago knowing he wouldn't likely service this area if there was in issue. MGD's response -- "I was probably in the area for personal reasons." So look, they may be good TO OTHER PEOPLE. But for me, they: - lied about the product - didn't own up to their lie when asked about it. - refused to service their product they sold me because I was too far (Placentia BTW) - installed their product KNOWING they wouldn't service it in the future.
