We purchased two large trees in May 2025. One is a deodora pine. The other was clearly marked and sold as a Japanese Maple. When the leaves fell this month it is clear the maple leaves had no real fall color. The tree was mismarked. It's too late to change the nursery error. We were helped by Karen at time of sale. She helped us pick the actual trees and explained each one. Again the maple tree was not tagged correctly. I see the nursery is moving to Dewey in 2026. The Dewey location has been a huge disappointment every time we have stopped in. The store sells a mismatch of wilted produce. Last corn season the corn was full of worms!! We are pretty much done with Mortimer. The new phone recording sounds delightful but I'm afraid it's a pipe dream. Do yourself a favor. Save the gas. Go to Watters in Prescott. Yes more expensive and YES you get what you pay for. read more

We went to Mortimers looking for some roses and small shrubs. We were shocked at the condition of their plants. Many were either dead or dying and most were in dire need of water. Many trees and other plants had fallen over, and no one seemed to care. Very disappointing. read more

This is a great nursery that can not only supply you with wonderful plants but very good advice for types that are suitable to this area. Many folks are not aware of the great variance in climate temperature here. Or the various pests and diseases that many plants are subject to. The staff are very polite, courteous, and knowledgeable. The folks at the big box stores do not compare at all. Also they have great guarantees on their plants. Definitely worth the visit. read more

Mortimer nursery was great to work with-Karen who helped me was very knowledgeable about what grew here and how big it was going to be. They came out and planned the plants and cleaned up the area afterwards. Some of the plants failed but they replaced and replanted them. Could not be more pleased with the end result read more

This nursery has a good selection of products but it seems they cater more to the commercial landscape business. When on site you can receive good service and depending on who handles your phone call, you can get satisfactory answers to your questions. However, on the phone I was told they do not make it a practice of recording your name or phone number on past purchases unless they deliver and plant the product. So if you need to buy another plant of the same name be sure you have it available as they cannot use a current or recent invoice number, purchase date, or name of purchaser. We purchase their super soil for garden boxes. Very disappointed. It was full of rocks and very large chunks of wood, Branches over 1.5 inches in diameter 7 inches long. Then it turned to mud when we watered it. Very bad. It was more of a fill dirt then a garden soil. read more

We had our front yard landscaped by Mortimer in November 2015 when we built our new Dorn home. The staff was very friendly, however, provided very little insight as to what may work with our taste, budget, and local climate. The response was often "whatever you want" as I commented that I'm not a landscaper and would love feedback/options. Communication from the beginning was poor, and the selection was limited. When our plants and trees were put in, we were told that while some of the plants didn't look as healthy as the others "just call us and we can replace them if needed." Nearly two months after we moved in, we lost most of our plants in the front yard and weeds started popping up. We were told at our initial consultation that a felt liner would be placed below the rock as a weed barrier but as we investigated...no felt was to be found. We've since noticed that some of our neighbors also didn't receive their felt liners. We had the majority of our cost wrapped up into our mortgage but made a few changes that we planned to pay ourselves. Prior to the landscaping being completed, we received quite a high bill that didn't seem accurate. We asked to have an itemized list of the costs so we could be sure of what we were paying for. We continued to receive this high estimate several different times and it took several phone calls and a trip to their office to receive a estimate in the correct amount. It is now the end of April 2016 and we have tried to contact Daniel, a field supervisor, several times in regards to getting the dead plants replaced, and we've yet to hear anything back. We've called Daniel directly as instructed by him when he met with us upon completion of our landscaping to go over details of the irrigation system, and have not heard from him in over 2 months, I believe 5 calls in all. To get rid of the eye sore of our dead plants in the front yard, we've contacted another landscaping company who immediately contacted us and we are planning on moving forward to replace our dead plants in the front yard. Again, friendliness when we've gotten a hold of staff at Mortimer has been good but their selection, follow through, and customer service have been poor for us. 05/06/16 UPDATE: A few days after this was posted, Daniel, a field supervisor, returned my call to inform me that our dead plants had been set to be replaced weeks earlier but that there'd likely been some sort of miscommunication. He assured me that he'd send his guys out to replace the plants the same day and he followed through. When I got home from work, we'd had 9 plants replaced...only one of which looks like it may not make it. I appreciate the communication, although it didn't address the weed control issue. I appreciate that the replacing of our poor dead plants has been taken care of, and I'd like to reiterate that the staff at Mortimer has always been friendly when we've been in contact with them. read more

All of the trees we bought there died. To the tune of $1000. When we told Mortimer's of this they shrugged their shoulders and gave a "Oh well". 2 bushes also died after 9 months. Plants do not seem hearty. Staff is nice enough but these are clearly 2nd tier plants. Why bother? Watters is right down the street and they stand behind their plants. Others issues with them but you get the idea. Just keep driving. read more

We had some landscaping maintenance done. It took weeks to get an estimate and many weeks to get an appointment for someone to actually show up. I've heard too many excuses as to why our job wasn't finished and promises for someone to come and redo the job. We've paid them over $400 to have weeds whacked once and spraying that didn't work. Disappointed isn't even the word. I've spent too much time trying to contact them and stay home for appointments when no one showed or even called. Bad business practices. read more

Went in to buy some Prescott wildflower mix; they didn't have any. :(. Did look around and found a couple of other things. They have a nice selection. I was really surprised at the young man helping me at counter. He didn't seem to have a knowledge of plants I asked about. And then I asked an older lady about the light required for a plant and she was very short with me and not willing to engage in a conversation about what else might work in my filtered sun/ shady spot. Also with the customer before me; the customer said thank you so much and the older lady just walked away without acknowledging her niceties. Wow! Poor people don't understand about smiling and being friendly. read more

Extremely excellent business. Had backyard landscaping in Quailwood done and the team at Mortimer was fantastic. Gary, the owner is a pleasure to work with. His knowledge and caring stands out compared to another other local landscapers. we spent a lot of time picking out the prefect tree. We narrowed our decision down to two trees, one was cheaper but had a tiny split tree trunk, the other was higher price and lots of healthy leaves. According to the nursery's owner, the higher price tree was a better choice. We purchased the tree, paying extra to have it delivered and planted. The delivery time was almost four weeks from the time of the purchase, because the nursery was extremely busy, we thought they would take care of the tree during the four week wait time; we came in once and our tree was lying on its side. We asked the nursery worker to please pick it up, which he did; however we never went back into the nursery to check on the tree. Now, I wish we would have. When they delivered the tree on Wednesday we were shocked how bad it looked, it looked worse that the tree with the tiny spilt truck. Most of the beautiful leaves were gone, some of the leaves crumbled when you touch them. The nursery was out of stake to help keep the tree straight, we have to wait a week for that to be done. So disappointed .I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

I really don't know how these folks stay in business. I stopped there early March to inquire about having some landscaping done at my recently purchased home a couple blocks away. Thought I'd do business with a neighbor. They took down my info and told me Daniel would contact me to set up an appointment to come over to my home. A gal called me from there about a week later seeming to expect me to place an order when I understood Daniel would come over. Once we got on the "same page" she said she would have Daniel phone me. Another 10 days passed without hearing from him so I called for him. He was on the phone but called me back shortly and came to my home within the hour. We discussed what I wanted and his recommendations. He left and said he'd run some figures and get back to me the next day. That didn't happen and over the course of the following 5 weeks, I made a personal visit to Mortimer and made no less than 5 phone calls for him without a response. I finally gave up and responded to a flyer I received from Landscaping Now. They came over the next day and gave me a detailed written proposal 2 days later which I accepted. I'm now sitting on my patio happily looking out at the beautiful park they built in my back yard. All was done in a very professional and timely manner. Looking back at the Mortimer fiasco, I sent off a "nasty-gram" letter to owner Gary Mortimer detailing all I have said here to let him know how his employees are representing him. I thought maybe he might pick up the phone and thank me for letting him know about this, but no such deal. I'm just assuming the lack of professionalism displayed by Daniel is the norm at this firm and has filtered down from the top. There's a $4,000 sale they could have had but didn't! read more
