Well, I used to work for the guy who runs the joint that is famous for doing that back in like 2000. He's one shady fellow he's been trying to put Mo's out of business for a decade. For 20 bucks we got 15 lil shrips, small amount of fries,and one deep fried oyster shooter. Not alot of food. BUT it was delicious, tasted way better then it looked. I'm giving it two whole stars for the service alone . They were extremely nice and welcoming ( even though they forgot my soup at first) Being from CA it's hard to find people that don't hate you out of state. Even our friends here told us not to say your from CA beacuse people will be mean...for the most part of our Washington, Or. trip it's true, not here though. I love love love this place!!!! I had the house salad with about at least one fourth pound of shrimp with fantastic thousand island dressing... it was delicious, the shrimp cheese melt was amazing with the best toasted garlic toast(btw I dislike lots of garlic and this sandwich was toasted to my perfection!!!) The clam chowder was to die for, my grandson and husband had the three shrimp special and thought it's the best!!! There is mostly a wait however I was very surprised at the speed they seated us on a Memorial weekend!!!! The service was excellent!!! The deserts looked amazing .... however we were far too full (Next time I will save room)And we were seated so we could see the ocean!!! A week later we stop in for more Parisian Halibut and it was nothing like the week before. It was not firm, and the coating was mushy. Very disappointed. read more

I was visiting the area with family and was looking for a seafood restaurant that's family friendly. As we checked out all of the options in the area, this place seemed to be the only one with plenty of seating and family friendly atmosphere. They even had menus for kids, which was really helpful. The halibut fish n chips were really good and well portioned, along with the clam chowder. They serve other types of food as well, with some pastas and sandwiches, if seafood is not on the minds of everyone else. The only reason I gave 3 stars, is because I've been there twice and the waiting staff are not that attentive and friendly. They must get paid enough to not care about getting a tip....good thing the food makes up for the service. The prices are fair for a family restaurant, but if you have a short budget it's it can be pricy for a whole family. read more

I'm a big Mo's fan ever since they captured our hearts in Otter Rock (it was literally one of two places - if you don't count the ice cream truck - in the entire town that was ONE street). So it was with great confidence that we chose Mo's of Florence. We waited a bit for a table even though it was after 1:30 and service was a bit slow, but what do you expect in a tourist town during the last week of Summer? I had a strange but delicious salad of 3-bean and Bay shrimp. Chris had a killer crab melt on Texas Toast. Seriously, that is one of the best seaside sandwiches you could ever find. Mo's used to be wonderful. I grew up going there. Whenever we visited the coast and I would crave their clam chowder. Tonight I got to go back after years since my last visit and I excitedly ordered a bowl of my favorite chowder. I was appalled at the paste put before me. It was flavorless, pasty and actually less than war. (And I had just watched my server ladle the chowder from the pot on the stove). They route you through the gift shop while waiting for a table. A solid tourist trap. Should be your last choice if your looking for seafood in Florence. Walk 50 yards in any direction from Mo's and you can find a better meal. Always unjustifiabley crowded, prepare to eat battered or deep fried seafood. It's sort of like a touted up Long John Silvers with a gift shop. Has a nice view, but so do 10 other restaurants on Bay st. Also seems unfairly pricey for both quality and quantity of food. Strangely I like their onion rings. Most of what you hear about their amazing clam chowder is hype. It can come in bread bowl, and it's not bad but also not worth making a trip here for. Mo's may have been better in the distance past. I have recommended people go here without coming here myself for over a decade only to rediscover that what I remember and what currently exists are not the same. The location on the water is great. Benches are uncomfortable. The fish and chips were pretty tough and over-cooked. The French fries were very good. Onion rings were good. Hamburgers were good. My family and I got seated right away, but we ended up sitting there for 20 minutes with the menus on the edge of the table. No one took our order or even got us water. A group sat down in the booth behind us after my family had already been waiting for quite some time, and the waitress went and took their order right as they sat down. As a kid, I remember that my grandma never liked the place - "too much potato in the chowder." That hasn't changed a bit. It's a nice location. Simple food that is relatively good, but not great. Our hopes of enjoying a great seafood cuisine was somewhat disappointing. It began after the waitress accidentally dropped one of the dishes onto the bench which splattered over the floor and onto the clothing of our son. Thankfully our granddaughter had moved over to watch what the other cousins were engrossed with. We never got an apology from the waitress, however we did leave a tip. On June 26th my husband and I went here for the first time to eat. We were escaping the heat in Roseburg. After ordering Halibut with fries and fish tacos with chowder and shrimp cabbage, we walked the boardwalk and enjoyed the wonderful weather. Shortly after eating, my husband's stomach felt sick. The rest of the day, he felt the same. luckily he got out the offending food in his body. But, the very next day I had nausea and a temperature that lasted 4 days. I had some diarrhea too. Review is for two trips in the past couple months. I go to Mo's for the clam chowder. It's too bad I can't get some fresh cracked black pepper to go with it at the restaurant. The spices available are Tobasco and table pepper that's long since parted with its essential oils. At least the surface is dusted with paprika. You can miss with the entrees here. The Shrimp skewer pasta had 2x the amount of alfredo needed. I wound up fishing out the shrimp after I got my fill of alfredo before the pasta was halfway finished. The time before, we ordered a fried scallop app and received marble sized scallops. The mashed potatoes taste out of the box, which was a big surprise. I can't be the only one that noticed this. Two trips in a row I go in thinking I should just get two bowls of chowder and a side of bread. Two trips now that I would have been better off. Beware the birthday celebrations at Mo's... We had a good time here. There was music on the patio and we enjoyed the fact that we could hang out there with our dogs. They were very quick to greet us and give us menus, but then we waited 10 minutes and no one came back. I went inside and a server graciously helped us. This was my first and my last time at Moes. We took some out of town guests there, only because we didn't want to wait for a table somewhere else. Next time we'll wait. The atmosphere was like a big, loud auditorium. Did I mention Loud? The so called clam chowder was more like a thick potato soup. Not sure I even had one clam. I got fish and chips. The fries were COLD and the fish was tasteless. I ate one piece. My husband hamburger was ok but, again, his fries were COLD. Our friend didn't fare much better. Tasteless mashed potatoes and shrimp skewers were just ok. There was one bright spot my other friend had a good grilled cheese, however, his onion rings were COLD. Where do I begin? The seafood is all FROZEN, as in fresh from the grocery store freezer section, frozen. Crispy chicken burger is three frozen chicken strips, on a hamburger bun. It falls apart before you can even pick it up. Their "world famous clam chowder" comes from a can. It was disgusting. They charge extra for fries, which is ridicules if you're ordering a burger. Staff is friendly, but spends more time standing around talking to each other, and playing on their cell phones so service is really slow. Plus side was definitely leaving. And even through the (what looked like craziness) dinner rush was booming, they still seated us and served us more quickly than I thought they would. Don't know why all the bad reviews as our trip was great! We had a party of 10. They seated us under 10 minutes, the waiters seemed to fall over themselves giving us constant and great service. Never an empty glass. I lived in the area for over 18 years and usually went to Mo's once or twice a year. Yes service has varied, but from what I saw there the servers were at tentative and friendly. On a recent trip to the coast we ate at two of their restaurants...Lincoln City and Astoria. Clam chowder had too many mushy potatoes and not enough clams. My dinner was the combination clams, shrimp and cod. The fries were good, the other so-so at best. Two nights later we tried the Astoria unit. Bay shrimp salad was ok, but not great. Both times my wife had fish tacos which were good. Neither place was my draft beer served in a frosted glass. Both places were clean and the help knew what they were doing. We have to drive an hour to get to Mo's and it's well worth the drive for me. It's not a 5-star ritzy place, it's a family restaurant with amazing views due to the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the water. My husband always gets the Chowder filled sourdough bowl, which fills him up. They put a pat of butter on the clam chowder, so if you don't want that, be sure and tell them. I love the oysters on the half shell. They are large, delicious and worth the drive. I have never had a bad experience there. The staff is very friendly, attentive without hovering and willing to answer any questions you have. Yup, it's time to go again. read more
