Everything was fine until the end. Let me start by saying I'm a nice, polite person. I warned the woman helping me that it would be difficult to find something for me due to some fairly specific needs. This person patiently brought out many pairs of glasses. When I (nicely!) told her I needed to keep looking, she said "I'm an optician, not a magician" Should have complained to someone right then but I was stunned. I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because up to that point everything was fine--but a comment like that is beyond the pale. read more

I placed an order receive the glasses and found them to be very flimsy, so I returned them. They say it takes up to 10 business days to process a refund. Turns out that says to process it before it even enters the refund to your credit card provider. I took another 10 business days. It should not take 3 to 4 weeks to get a refund. She was the most attentive and patient optometrist, thoroughly explained details and took me step by step through the process. Jessie & Allison up front were extremely friendly and kind. Salesperson was very patient as I tried on various frames and offered wonderful recommendations to complement my face; also got to use their side-by-side camera to check out what the frames look like - since I can't see without my glasses on - HUGE plus! Let me start by saying I own/have owned 6 different pairs of Moscot frames. The Yukel and Nebb are two of my favorite pair of glasses I have ever owned, and that's saying a lot as a bonafide eyewear addict and lover. In May, I purchased a new pair of Nebb frames. After less than a month of wear, they developed greasy looking spots (on a matte black frame = super noticeable). I cleaned them with everything (safe) imaginable, and even had an optical lab try to remove the stains -- to no avail. Thus I reached out to Moscot for help. For one, their customer service person was abysmal, and required constant prompting to even respond. Secondly, almost as I expected, they tried to blame this on me -- claiming that I created the stains by using stick-on silicone nosepads, which I have used for 20 years because I have a narrow bridge (they have never harmed a pair of glasses, and I have used the same ones). Also, some of the spots are not even near the nosepads. And the nosepads were stuck on Day 1; the stains appeared a month later. But I digress. The thing that makes me angry: like many of the other reviewers here, I have actually had bad customer service experiences routinely at Moscot. About every visit I have made to a NYC store has been terrible: unfriendly associates, completely ignoring you in store, etc. I put up with this because 1. it's NYC so what should I expect, to some extent? and 2. I like the glasses. But also: the glasses are of inconsistent quality, to say the least. The glasses are Made in China and are not the quality one might think from their self proclaimed legendary status. They are only mediocre, and it really depends on the frame. Both pairs of Yukel frames I owned required repairs I haven't experienced with other frames and brands. The very well made Lemtosh, on the other hand, will probably last a lot longer than I will. How did they resolve my damaged frame issue? To offer me a 20% discount on a new pair of frames -- because they want me to believe it is my fault and I that I ruined a 2 month old pair of frames by using a product I have used for 20 years on probably 50 pair of frames. YAY! This is what you can expect from this place: nice looking frames of dubious quality (unlike like some people here, I do not think Moscot, for the most part, is ridiculously priced). No service after the sale (ZERO WARRANTY ON ANYTHING). A mediocre AT BEST customer service experience IN STORE. (Although if you are a famous person, none of these things apply!). PS: And Moscot, please spare me your repetitive response about being in business for over a hundred years, blah blah blah...which is meaningless. They have the best customer experience ever. Upon arriving in NYC, my glasses broke. It was such a shame because I cannot see anything. Went forst to another eyewear store but they were not able to accomodate my request to have a name pair of glasses made within the same day. Good thing I found Moscot's store online. Booked a schedule, had my eyes checked, got a thorough eye exam, had the doctor write a prescription, and had my glasses made in a couple of hours. The people in the store the best. The most helpful, kindest people ever. Not only do they know how to style you and give recommendations but they really took care of me. Beautiful store and amazing style! This is by far the best glasses-buying experience I've ever had. I was so ready to move on from Warby Parker - and have always hated going into boring eyewear shops with their crappy overhead lighting. Going into Moscot you feel a sense of history and an artsy ambience that really puts you at ease, and their staff is very friendly and not at all pushy - Brett & Jose are simply great at their jobs. I ended up getting Vildas, which are my favorite glasses I've ever had - and that's coming from someone who's worn glasses for 20+ years! If you have VSP DEFINITELY come here. That is the only insurance they take. I got a really fantastic deal that ended up being only only slightly more expense than Warby Parker, and the quality and style is a cut above. They also have a warranty on scratch-resistant lenses. I am really looking forward to rockin my new frames and maybe getting some prescription sunglasses in the near future as well. But today I was so disappointed when they wouldn't fix my expensive frames, even though I offered to pay whatever costs. They said they no longer carry the brand so they wouldn't even try. Their new location on 6th Ave was open for about 6 weeks before I went in on a Tuesday morning around 11:30. I walked in and the store was empty except for me. I saw 3 employees sitting in the center doing nothing but looking at a 4th person who was on the phone and perhaps was the manager. Nobody said hello. Nobody stood up at ask if I needed help. Nobody cared enough to even try. I walked around and tried on frames. Each frame had a massive security device to stop theft. I couldn't even try on frames with this silver dollar sized device on the frame weighing it down. I looked at each employee and now they started at their phones and the 4th was still on the phone. If I could get the device Off, then I could see how the frames fit without being off balance but hey, Facebook during work is more important. I picked out a 1200 dollar frame and lenses at my Opthamologist's office and ANYTHING cheaper would have been a quick easy sale. But horrible service means I walked out and could go to 40 other places within 10 minutes of 14th and 6th Ave. Oliver Peoples is stealing your market share for a good reason. read more

This happened years ago. I don't review much, and when I do, I prefer to be positive. However, this incident has always bothered me so here goes... I really wanted to go to Moscot and get eyeglasses. I grew up seeing the eyeglass sign on the LES when I was a kid going to Orchard St with my family. A couple years back, when the old-fashioned heavy style of glasses came back, I really wanted to get it from them. I tried going downtown, couldn't get help. Weeks later, I went up the steps to the store on 6th ave. It was near empty, I still remember the young family there that an associate was fussing over. There were several associates around, 1 or 2 who said they'd be over soon when I caught their eye. I stood there for 45 minutes. At some point, even I could get the hint. I was not their kind of customer. Every time I pass a Moscot store, including the one on Smith Street, I remember that. They have a special place in my heart. A few months back, on my way to the subway, I went up the steps. I did get an offer of help pretty quickly this time. Was it desperation? I do look different now, like someone who gets served. One of my two very favorite pairs of frames ever, a clear-plastic model, came from here. I remember trying them on in front of my then-girlfriend, who hated them, and I got them anyway. My second time here- and I totally loved it. I got a full eye exam, contact lens fitting, and new glasses. I had my two sons (both under two) in tow, and my mom. My mom had a cool, quiet place to sit with her grandsons while I handled my business. I had a particular frame in mind but it was not a good fit for my face (insert sad face emoji here), and Jose was super helpful in helping me find the perfect- I mean ABSOLUTELY perfect frame- color, cut, and shape were all in line with my style. Thanks to this place for their patience, I will be back to get my eyes dilated (insert another sad face emoji here), and pick up my new glasses in a few short weeks. I have been going to Sol Moscot for many years now. The manager Arthur is always so patient and helpful, he always helps me pick out a frame that fits my face perfectly. Everyone there is polite and helpful and I like that they accept VSP. The thing I like most is that they have this machine called The Optomap® Retinal Scan, that takes a picture of your eyes instead of having them dilated. It costs $ that is not covered by VSP but you can use flex pay. Totally worth it. I would rather get my eyes scanned than walk around for a few hours with my eyes going in and out of focus. read more

A little background info about myself - I have been wearing glasses for 20 years and contact lens for 18 years. My eye exam with Dr Butler today was the best eye exam I have ever had. He is very personable, friendly and helpful. My eye exam took an entire hour. He was extremely patient with me while determining my eye degree. As a heavy computer user staring at numerous spreadsheets daily, I expressed that I was getting headaches and my eyes feel tired everyday. He offered 2 options - a separate pair of glasses with a different degree or lenses with a Prism booster. He is the first optometrist who listened and tried to address my concerns and I appreciated him not upselling me. With my contact lens test, once again he provided a set of monthly lenses and 6 pairs of dailies just for me to try out. He even explained that he chose a particular brand contact lenses as he noticed I had flatter corneas. Right now they definitely feel more comfortable than my old pair but let's see after the 2 week trial. Selecting frames was easy and straightforward. All options were always explained clearly and the customer had the choice of selecting their price range. They even fixed my old glasses which were missing the nose rests. Fortunately, I never experienced any of the problems other people did and I am looking forward to getting my new glasses. I previously went to Ho Optics which is highly reviewed on Yelp. Dr Ho is great too but the overall experience at Moscot is slightly better. However they mostly carry vintage plastic frames so my husband who prefers metallic frames couldn't find anything. read more

Why didn't I come here sooner? Just purchased 3 pairs of frames - it is incredibly difficult to find smaller frames for a narrow face and very myopic (near sighted, thicker lenses even in hi index). Sturdy frames, lots of choices in classic styles. Contemporary and affordable sunshade clip-ons which fit many frames! At 6th Ave, was greeted warmly and immediately Julie C. was on the right track with styles that fit perfectly and have wider rims for myopic thicker lenses. Funky and functional. I bought my pair of Lemtosh glasses about a year prior to writing this review and that experience was fine. What's really pushed me to write a review of this store is what they did when my frames actually snapped in half. I wrote an email to Moscot customer service about my frames in anticipation that I would have to buy a new frame or pay for a repair. They replied the same day saying that they had arranged for a new frame front to be delivered to the store later in the week. So a couple of days later I go into the store and they already have my frame front ready-to-go. To my surprise, the repair only took 10 minutes and was free of charge! As a longtime lover of Fabulous Frannys, I saw some of Moscot's original frames and thought they looked amazing. I also found out that my insurance gives me $100 a year that I never knew about toward glasses, so time for another pair on them! I called up Moscot and the person on the phone told me that they would just take the $100 off the cost of the frames on the spot and that they would bill my insurance. Upon getting to their really nice store, and waiting for quite a while for a salesperson, I found a pair of glasses I really liked, but when I asked about the insurance I was met with "Who told you that" and "we don't do that go talk to your insurance people". Upon asking about the return policy (I've returned glasses to frannys two months after I bought them and they cut me a check on the spot for a refund, they said "No refunds OR exchanges". Really? These are glasses, its not like they lose much value unless they are damaged, and what if I change my mind? What if my insurance decides not to cover them? ZERO wiggle room. I just wanted to scream to everyone in there get outta here and go to Fabulous Frannys. But because I didn't, I'll say it here. Nice frames, shitty attitude towards customer service and moderately surly staff. -DP UPDATE: Although the manager at Moscot has reached out to me after this review, to which I suggested they institute a 7 day return on glasses bought without lenses (so as not to stretch them out at all), I have noticed several 5 star reviews from users that just signed up, within one day of each other only to review Moscot. I went here with my boyfriend. He bought his glasses here (with insurance) and then when we got home, we looked at their website. The glasses he had just bought were listed as $50 lower on the web! This was after everyone there gave us a different price. We went back, and they said it was the price for people without insurance. This is illegal! Two different prices for the same item? The astigmatism incident occurred in a followup exam. I guess that wasn't recorded because I left in the middle (I was upset because I was being ripped off). To be specific the astigmatism exam portion was conducted by someone who was not a doctor. That was hardly "professional, comprehensive and ethical". More like frugal and unqualified. Also the doctor that day was not Dr. Kwon it was a female doctor of Scandinavian or Eastern European decent. It must be hard to keep track of your revolving door of doctors. For the record, I agreed to set an exam but the Grand Central Terminal that is your Delancey office could not see me within a reasonable amount of time (5 hour wait). As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a smile and a warm welcome by Jose. I needed my Krewe sunglasses tightened which he was able to do after of course informing about the stipulations of fixing third party glasses if anything were to go wrong. He took special care with them and adjusted them until they both were a perfect fit. This was the first time that I was ever serviced with such attention to detail when it comes to tightening my glasses. Jose is definitely skilled and passionate about glasses. I have walked by their iconic yellow awning on both 14th and Orchard for years, but I recently "re-"discovered MOSCOT after a frantic Google search for "same day prescription glasses." I called MOSCOT ahead of time to explain my situation (I needed glasses to drive and was driving the next day, yikes). The man on the phone reassured me that if the lenses I needed were in stock, all I needed was my prescription to get glasses asap. Great phone support. I was generally happy with my experience, but a couple things: Price: Prices might be on the steep side depending on what your personal price point is. Personally, I used to be a Warby Parker customer, so my MOSCOT purchase was definitely an upgrade for me, price-wise. That being said, the quality is good so I'll try not to complain too much. To give you an idea, if you walk in with a prescription from somewhere else--lenses and frames should cost you about $500. Definitely a splurge for me. Service: Overall, Good! I'd give it a B+/A-. I'll save the best for last and start with what could have been improved. Customer interaction left a bit to be desired. I felt a little rushed and limited in my choices despite there being so many glasses on display in the store. I realize that the sales associate was trying to create a more personal experience by selecting a few pairs of glasses she thought would work for me. However, she made me feel rushed by frequently asking me if I had made my decision. I appreciated the pointers about having certain size lenses to fit my face, but the selection process in general felt a little impersonal--normally I might let this go, but given how much I was paying for the glasses and MOSCOT's reputation, I would've appreciated not feeling so rushed. On a positive note, their service was SPEEDY. Although my sales associate made me feel a bit rushed, I do want to give her credit for arranging for my glasses to be made asap. The SA asked me whether I had something to wear while my glasses were being made. When I said no, she told me to come pick them up at 6pm that day (I made the order around 2:30pm that day). I am pissed at Moscot. An employee named Bahareh lied to me about NYC law requirements and, with a valid 9 months old prescription, refused to provide me with contact lenses for any period over two months saying that was NY law (see below for the current law - which is silent, or two years). When I pointed her to the correct law, she stumbled and said that is Moscot policy. She was rude and asked me to go elsewhere. Very good service and gorgeous glasses. I'm typically a contact lense girl, but Moscot's are so well made and look so great on. I was pleased to purchase my first pair of glasses in a long time here. These glasses are quite an investment ( especially if you are near sighted and need thin lenses) the add ons can really add up. That being said these glasses feel like they will last for a decade. I would get an eye exam elsewhere as there is no need to pay 100 for that here, as your prescription is your prescription. read more
