I came across Mother Made Donuts with the trusty Yelp app as I continued to explore the city of Whittier. Honestly, the name caught my attention (marketing strikes again!). Your basic all-around donut shop that sold everything from donuts, ice cream, Lotto, packaged snacks, sandwiches, to various drinks, there was something here to fill your tummy. After my first experience, would I visit "mom" again!? PURCHASE THE "APPLE FRITTER IS TAKING OVER THE WORLD TOUR" CONTINUED... Apple Fritter ($1.75): Not that I was an apple fritter snob - eff it...yes I was! - but there was a certain way I liked mine. 1st, the price was seemingly comparable to the now going rate. 2nd, it was generally round, dense, doughy, and thick as I liked, and more the size of my hand rather than my face (an ode to the great Goldstar Donuts in Van Nuys). 3rd, there was a mass amount of apple bits. 4th, the overall medium-dark brown color was nice with minimal burnt ends (I loved it burnt), and the heavy glaze made for an excellent cracking effect. There were minimal smaller crunchy odd crannies, corners, and nooks which I liked to break off into small little morsels. 5th, it was relatively fresh based on its temperature with slight hints of oil pockets and gooey apple juices that barely trickled into your mouth and dripped down your throat. I only purchased two things that morning. One donut and one Powerball ticket. Results were good and bad. The bad news was that I lost in Powerball. Good news is that I liked their Cream filled Chocolate Donut. It was yummy! Perfect ratio of custard to donut! If you are not craving donuts, then Mother Made sells other goodies as well. On a lazy Sunday morning I wanted to try Mother Made breakfast sandwich. Had their donuts before and liked them. I was greeted immediately upon entering by friendly staff. I ordered an egg and cheese croissant sandwich and a bacon and egg sandwich (usually comes with cheese but the hubby opts for without). $4.50 each. Comes with a chili pepper for customized heat. While the sandwiches were bring made I chose some sweet goodies. Bran muffin with walnuts (they also have one with just raisins). Glazed doughnut. Cinnamon roll. Small carton of milk. Total was around $13.60. When I left both staff members wished me a good day. The sandwiches were huge. It was almost like an omelet wrapped in croissant. I guess the sandwiches are popular. Although I'm not a huge sweets eater, my husband is. We would pass this place a lot when we'd drive up and down Lambert. One day we decided to stop off. It was pretty good. I'm giving it a four star because the owner is such a sweet lady.
