The donuts were good but the device was terrible. The gentleman at the counter took his time arranging his freezer before even acknowledging us, his customers. After I selected my 6 Donuts my attendant asked for payment and asked for his tip. I normally do not tip when I buy donuts. I especially don't when asked for a tip. So I said no. He gave me back my card and walked away, no thank you or anything. I did not get a receipt. I did check my account. Terrible awful place. I will not frequent them again. If I had eaten there etc then perhaps his service would have warranted a tip. In this case we did not. The ambiance was just ordinary. Nothing special. read more

I came across Mother Made Donuts with the trusty Yelp app as I continued to explore the city of Whittier. Honestly, the name caught my attention (marketing strikes again!). Your basic all-around donut shop that sold everything from donuts, ice cream, Lotto, packaged snacks, sandwiches, to various drinks, there was something here to fill your tummy. After my first experience, would I visit "mom" again!? PURCHASE THE "APPLE FRITTER IS TAKING OVER THE WORLD TOUR" CONTINUED... Apple Fritter ($1.75): Not that I was an apple fritter snob - eff it...yes I was! - but there was a certain way I liked mine. 1st, the price was seemingly comparable to the now going rate. 2nd, it was generally round, dense, doughy, and thick as I liked, and more the size of my hand rather than my face (an ode to the great Goldstar Donuts in Van Nuys). 3rd, there was a mass amount of apple bits. 4th, the overall medium-dark brown color was nice with minimal burnt ends (I loved it burnt), and the heavy glaze made for an excellent cracking effect. I only purchased two things that morning. One donut and one Powerball ticket. Results were good and bad. The bad news was that I lost in Powerball. I ordered an egg and cheese croissant sandwich and a bacon and egg sandwich (usually comes with cheese but the hubby opts for without). $4.50 each. Comes with a chili pepper for customized heat. While the sandwiches were bring made I chose some sweet goodies. Bran muffin with walnuts (they also have one with just raisins). Glazed doughnut. Cinnamon roll. Small carton of milk. I'm giving it a four star because the owner is such a sweet lady.
