Incredible! We got takeout because we were low energy, and WOWOWOW I have never gobbled something down so fast. Worth all of the hype! I got some kind of broccolini curry and it absolutely blew my mind--especially given the very reasonable prices. We didn't eat in, but we walked briefly through the inside, which was clean & bright, with a casual vibe. Our food was ready at the stated time, and they gave us forks/spoons & plenty of napkins in our takeout. I would absolutely go again if I lived in the area!

On a recent visit to Sacramento, multiple omnivore friends recommended Mother, so I was happy I had the opportunity to try it. The location is great and the woman serving when I arrived was very friendly, and she remained attentive the entire time. My friend and I split the Brussels sprouts as a starter. She got the ravioli, and I went with the vegan chile verde. Both the starter and my meal were phenomenal. While we were there, the chef's dinner was going on. I think if I were in town longer I would definitely want to try it out: $88 for a 10-course plant-based meal sounds great. All in all, a great spot, and seems well-loved by the locals, so I'm glad I was able to try it.

The food here is SO GOOD! I love when a restaurant sources quality seasonal ingredients and celebrates them by creating menu items that will help them shine. Mother does just that with every menu item. The hardest part for me was choosing what to order, so naturally I over-ordered so I could sample multiple things and have plenty of leftovers for later. The team here was really nice and welcoming and the restaurant is very cute. They have seating for parties of various sizes and some outdoor seating as well. I stopped in at around 1pm on a Friday and it was busy with dine in and take out orders, but not overwhelmingly busy and I grabbed a seat easily. I ended up asking for recommendations and ordered the oyster mushroom Po'boy ($18), the chile verde ($20) and added a fried egg (+3), as well as the butternut squash mac and cheese ($11). While all of the dishes are vegetarian, many of the dishes can be prepared vegan but they don't use any animal product alternatives (like faux meats) instead they let the veggies shine. The Oyster Po'boy was on a soft and fluffy bun and had crispy, delicious fried mushrooms on it with some house made pickles and house made chips. The chips were amazing, so crunchy with the perfect amount of salt. Overall I can see why this is a customer favorite item. The Chile Verde was so flavorful and bright and came with some salad and avocado on the side. It's a filling dish and I definitely recommend the fried egg to bring the whole dish together. The Butternut Squash Mac and Cheese has crispies on top made with the parmesan bread crumbs and is so creamy, flavorful and indulgent. I will be craving this mac and cheese again soon. I'm so glad they moved to this location in Midtown (on K between 23&24) since I'm in this area so often. I'm so excited to try more items from the menu and check in for seasonal items.

I think I'm late but I'm so glad Mother is back! I love the new location and I think it is so cute inside. I love the art and the natural light. I had the butternut squash soup - which was pretty good, on the sweeter side. I had such a hard time choosing what else I wanted. I didn't want more butternut squash but I wanted something fulfilling but also different. So I went for the nut burger. It was really good! I've had 2 other nut burgers elsewhere, and this one has been the best. I recently had one at Tower Cafe and this one WINS. I'm giving it 4 stars for being solid though not spectacular but definitely a place I could see myself frequenting being that the menu is seasonal. I also appreciated the seat suggestion and the complimentary cookies from my server :) I'm excited to go back to try the other dishes.

This review is for a DoorDash order. I ordered the Madras Curry for myself and the butternut squash mac & cheese for my mum. Both were incredibly flavorful. My curry dish was out of this world. It will leave a lasting impression and craving in my mind for the next time.

4.5 stars rounded up. I love that there is this restaurant option for Sacramento. Came here for lunch today and everything we ordered the waitresses whether or not we needed anything gluten-free or if we had special dietary needs. I shared the Chile Verde and the Farro salad. First off, you honestly wouldn't miss the meat in the Chile verde ($20). It came with white beans, hominy, salad, tortilla chips, mozzarella and cotija cheese. Very filling! Loved just the hint of spice it had. The Farro Salad which is seasonal ($16) peaches, arugula, radicchio, onion, cucumber, radish, goat cheese and of course farro -- accompanied with a basil vinaigrette, I was impressed with this salad! So impressed in fact, I made it for the work potluck the following week! (I couldn't figure out the basil vinaigrette however.) The artsy interior and kitschy dinnerware screams midtown to me. Love the ambiance. Service was good and I'll be back when they put their nut burger back on the menu!

Being plant based sometimes makes going out to eat difficult. Finding Mother restaurant was a wonderful surprise to my day. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about alternative diets and happily makes their recommendations upon request. Our food came out in a timely manner and was plated beautifully. The restaurant itself is upbeat and quirky. We cannot wait to go back!

Vegan/veggie spot with delicious options! Such a cute little spot in the middle of midtown with really friendly staff and great vibes. Beer/wine and non alcoholic options; their lemonade is my fav! Food is fresh and creatively prepared. Put this on your list to try and support!

Really wanted to try this vegan friendly restaurant. They have a liquor license too. So sad that over half the items on the menu are not and cannot be made vegan. The mushroom bolo lasagna and mushroom sizzling skillet have dairy (and maybe egg too). So we tried the soup of the day (tortilla) and oyster mushroom po'boy. Sandwiches was yummy and came with homemade chips. Soup tasted a bit like enchilada sauce and was puréed without beans. Did have tortilla chips on top. Not my fav, but good. Staff was friendly, food came out quick, and there is plenty of street parking. Hope they plan to offer more vegan dishes. Vegetarians will love this place.

Oyster mushroom po'boy V iceberg lettuce, remoulade, coriander pickles, hot sauce, chips. The homemade chips were amazing!

I can't say enough amazing things about this place! We came here for my wife's bday with a huge party. Not only would they easily split the checks, but the service was impeccable, and they said no problem! I didn't get a lot of photos of the amazing food we had that night so I'm sharing what I have from our most recent experience. Don't miss this gem in midtown!

We attended the Chef's 10 last night Feb 19- it was amazing. The chef's interactions were fun, the crowd was pleasant, dining room was full, iced tea tasted the bestttt, service was wonderful even though they were so super busy they were super attentive. The food was all so good, my pictures of it aren't great but in person it was beautiful. Highly recommend. Can't wait to go back.

I've been wanting to try Mother at their new K Street location since I heard they were re-opening. I went with a friend who is vegan and we both were a bit skeptical based on experiences at their previous location. However, we were both pleasantly surprised with the items with the menu and the food. We started our meal with their soup of the day, creamy white bean with rosemary. We also shared an appetizer of grilled shishito peppers. For our main course, my friend ordered the mushroom Po'boy sandwich and I got a golden beet tostada. We also got broccolini adobo and grilled summer squash to share. The soup was creamy without being too heavy. The shishito peppers were lightly roasted which brought out sweet and smoky flavors. The summer squash came with grilled apricots, which added a sweet touch to the savory dish. The broccolini with adobo sauce worked very well together. I had my doubts because adobo sauce is usually very salty, but Mother's version was spiced to compliment the vegetable. What I loved about all the dishes was being able to truly taste the fresh ingredients because they weren't overpowered by heavy sauces or creams. We left full and satisfied without feeling stuffed. Service was efficient and friendly. Our food came out in a timely manner and the server came around to check on us. We didn't ever feel like we had to ask for anything. All in all, it was positive re-introduction to the new Mother restaurant. I'll definitely be back soon.

Why did they close 😢? My go to spot every time I visit Sacramento. Also, does anyone remember what kind of mushrooms they used?

Same! I loved that mushroom sandwich and I'm not sure what they used in it but I've heard their sister restaurant Empress Tavern has a similar sandwich.

Is anything on the menu 100% organic and non-GMO?

    Yes

    Reservations a must?

No reservations. Limited seating. Expect to wait.

Do they still do the Chef's Choice? I had that option years ago and LOVED it. Hoping they still have it.

Are any of the menu options compliant with Whole30?

I'd think so! They're really easy going about modifications, so you could probably at least find something that can be modified to your diet!

    Are the food organic?

Yes, at least a lot of them are. The food is excellent, natural, they have vegan options too.

Do they have gluten free options?

Yes. They usually have at least a few options (it's a small menu), including salads and an entree. Breadcrumbs are in a lot of things. The kitchen is small, so that's something to consider if you are allergic to gluten and concerned about cross…

I notice that there is outdoor seating. Is Mothers dog friendly?

Yes they are. I think their website even says something about the patio bring pet-friendly. I've personally seen many a leashed-dog in the patio. Enjoy!

Yes, today was our first. I'm a sucker for excellent customer service and Cafe Burma and Mikayla had me at HELLO. LOL NOTE: I DIDN'T DO ANY PRE- REVIEW UPON ARRIVING. The husband wanted a Monday Date night and who am I to say No. What we had: *Planta with Chicken Coconut Dip. This planta is a crossover of naan with Mochi like middle with the prefect crisp served with an amazing Chicken sauce. Yah...will be having this again. Hubby had most of it because I was saving my appetite for what's to come. *TeaLead Salad - Yes its a MUST. The fried seasoned garlic is the secret to why this salad hits the palate in the most perfect way. The dressing is oil based which wasn't over powering or even greasy. The peanut was tastefully done. Yes - I ate most of it. Fresh ingredients in every bite. *Chili Basil Beef - at first glance, it looked like Mongolian Beef but far from the taste. The cumin, ginger and chili flakes gave this dish the wow factor. Mind you, I dislike ginger pieces and didn't come across one piece so they must have used ginger powder which I appreciate. We all know the benefits of ginger and I feel like I got a dose of it without biting into one. *PadThai - we were warned that the Burmese way come with a hint of sweetness and this was definitely true but notoverpowering. Husband enjoyed it, me not so much. The dishes came with extra large prawns. You can tell the prawns we're seasoned first hand before getting tossed into the mix. DRINKS: Husband had the coconut monsoon (rum with coconut flakes and I had Bite Dog HAZY IPA - yum. Prime location - corner of 16th street and J, street parking. Restaurant was clean and with a bar and open kitchen concept. What I would have liked: I wish the aesthetic of the restaurant showcased the culture. Wish the dishes were served in a more traditional serving plates. My eyes eat first so I would have appreciated the extra touch but the TASTE definitely made up for it. Will definitely be back! Need to try a dessert next time. Thanks for having us Chef Burma.

The location was a bit odd, as there were barely any other businesses nearby. There is street parking that you can pay for. It's a fairly small restaurant. We were were seated pretty quickly. She was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, personable, throughout my meal, we chatted a little bit, as she came by my table every now and then to make sure everything was OK. You order, they give you a number, and then they bring your food to the table. The menu was large, with appetizers, burgers, gyro,, salads, and desserts. I decided to start with the dip trio. I asked Gemma if it was a large serving, , and she said "not really" . *SPOILER ALERT* it was.... The Baba ganoush had a wonderful. Roasted flavor and you could definitely taste the eggplant, that tzaziki had a wonderful "Tang" to it, which kept it from being too rich, and the hummus was creamy, and delicious. Nothing overwhelmed each other. There was a bit of red pepper on top of the hummus that gave it a tiny kick. There was a generous amount of pita to go with it. I loved the olives. They had a nice briny flavor to them. I normally don't care for green olives, but these were amazing. For my main course, I ordered the chicken pita bowl. Chicken Gyro meat, arugula, lettuce, red onion, tomatoes, tzatziki, and I had a choice of regular or spicy aïoli. Again, I asked her how spicy the spicy aioli was, and she said it was a bit spicy. I decided to try the spicy aïoli, and she offered to put it on the side. That was also very nice I had a choice of Greek fries or rice, and I chose to have half-and-half. The fries were more like small wedges, and they were tender and well seasoned. The rice was just your average white rice, but it did have a very good texture The chicken was tender and flavorful, and again, everything played very well with each other. The spicy aïoli was about halfway up the scale of what I like for spicy, but it had an amazing flavor. I mixed everything together, including the spicy aïoli, and it made for the perfect bite. It came with a few more pieces of that tender pita bread. I ended up with about half of my dip trio, and half of my main course. Enough to take Home for another full meal. The price is on the higher end, but for the amount of the amazing food you get, it was definitely worth it. I will be back. Thank you.
