Once again I was due for the smog check and knew I had to go to Motive Car Care again! Called in first to see if there was a wait in a Thursday afternoon and luckily there was none. Came in and provided the paperwork and keys. They said it would take 20 minutes so I waited inside and read my book. The interior is kept very clean with plenty of seating. The kids table with toys even looked clean. I swear less than 20 minutes later and it was done. These guys are super speedy that I barely got any reading done! There is a Yelp checkin offer but it was the same price as the deal they gave me. The cost isreally reasonable and love that they take care of the paperwork. SMOG: NO PASS = PAY. There are "no pass, no pay stations" and this is not one of them. They even stated if I came back to smog later, they would still charge me. Some smog shops offer a deal like, if you fail (but still pay) you can come back and test free after. Please do your research. read more

Check in offer is only valid if your bring in your renewal notice from DMV. Any out of state cars require a Smog prior to registering in California no matter what year!! So save your several trips to the DMV and get your Smog done before hand. Unless you enjoy hanging out at the DMV dont listen to me. Go a head with your bad self! This place is clear across town but honestly $40 is what brought me here. Most places in my area want $70. I didnt mind the drive to save $30. You really let me down. I took my vehicle to you 7 mos ago. You charged me $100 for diagnostic. Ok. Same light turned on and you offered to take a look at it for $150 diagnostic charge I called you two weeks later because I wasn't sure about paying $150. When I called back you quoted me $120 diagnostic. Needless to say you lost a customer. Finally took my car to Firestone who found a piece of foam blocking the throttle body (the part you replaced) I specifically told Shawn it was the same exact lights as the last time and he refused any type of ownership. I just spent $130 to FIX YOUR PROBLEM. Shame on you!!! Get your diagnostic price right and review your work. You legitimately owe me $130. Will never recommend you AT ALL. These guys are aces. I had my Lexus flat-bedded to Motive yesterday for a no-start condition. Today, I got a call from Sean telling me his diagnostic had revealed that there was no fix he could do and I'd need to take the car to a Lexus dealer. I came in at first the ridiculously low priced smog. Just make sure you bring your DMV renewal sheet. Later that month, My car wasn't coming out of park. So I diagnosed it online. Ya gotta love google!! I then checked on the part I needed from the dealership. I was going to get a ride to dealership or drive with no brake lights. Instead I called Shawn. He ordered it and said he would install for a great price! My problem was solved since he was super close to my house! James did the install. No more problems! Honestly the cherry on top was I was a female calling in with a car problem and diagnosis. I've been to Motive twice now for Smog related work. The first visit was when I was trying to smog a Jeep that had failed visual inspection due to a "cracked" hose at a test only shop. Turns out getting a replacement hose at the local parts stores, online or even from the dealer was impossible because the part was no longer manufactured. It wasn't a run of the mill straight hose and I was close to being SOL. I ended up talking to the guys at Motive and they were able to fabricate the needed hose and smog my vehicle on the same visit while I waited. My latest experience was taking in my convertible for a smog. About a week prior I had replaced the intake manifold and IM runner control and then driven the car about 75 miles. Turns out this wasn't long enough for the car's computer to run enough scenarios to allow a "pass" for the smog. I ran the car up the hill to Auburn at a higher RPM and back down adding about another 50 miles of operation. When I brought the car back in a few hours later, they were able to immediately test the car without an additional test fee. Second time was a pass. Total fees with two tests and the DMV smog cert was just $30 with my Yelp check-in. Awesome! If you're looking for a trustworthy shop with mechanics that are straightforward, give Motive a call.
