Cute small shop in the heart of Laguna. Just like their flag shop store, they do have everything you're looking for. They got pastries, cakes, sandwiches, crepes, breakfast, little shop, coffees and nice & friendly service. The store is very chic and spacious with both indoor and patio seating area. Unfortunately at the moment, the outdoor view is block by the construction so it's abit boring. Inside is nice and Europe vibe with plenty of Europe foods pics hanging on the walls and the baked goods smell. The foods are generally great, not too sweet and not too salty and heavy. Simply delish!
Today was my first time at Moulin Laguna Beach. I have been to their other locations and I'm happy to say that this location did not disappoint! The indoor restaurant is so cute and they also have a lovely patio as well. They have a lot of grab and go, premade items, as well as fresh cooked/hot meals as well. Plus, they have delicious bottled drinks and pasties made to perfection!
I'd been craving buttery pastries for weeks, and on Monday I happened to be in the area. I'd stopped by Forest Ave and realized Moulin was nearby too! I've been to the Newport location maybe three or four times, so I'm pretty familiar with their pastries. I was excited to finally visit the Laguna Beach spot. It's definitely smaller than Newport, but as long as they have the pastries, I'm happy. Everything in the case looked incredible--I honestly wanted to try them all. I settled on a butter croissant, a pain au chocolat, and a cannelle. Clearly, I wasn't holding back; the craving needed to be satisfied that day. My favorite was the cannelle--I could really taste the rum, and now I regret not grabbing five or six of them. Also, I'm very glad I went on a Monday... I can't imagine what parking is like on the weekend.
French Coffee and Pastry Shop Vibes with Pigeons. Moulin was Michelin Bib Gourmand and it has expanded into three locations: Newport Beach, Dana Point, and Laguna Beach. First tasted the French Pastries at a food event in Newport and I legit loved every bite! When I saw Moulin in Laguna Beach I had to pay a visit. This time I opted for something savory instead of sweet. Chicken Pesto Baguette. Definitely enjoyed the quality ingredients and the needed punch of the mustard to complement the baguette. Whether you are into people watching, drooling over their desserts, Moulin has a bit of everything with a French Twist: Crepe, Croissants, and Coffee! They also sell day old pastry in bags for $10, so naturally I grabbed a bag for the road :)
I Loved this place... the ladies behind the counter all speak French.... The menu is in French and English...I ordered a ham and cheese croissant....and a chocolate chip cookie... the croissant was flakey and buttery... the cookie was delicious too....... a walk up counter to order.... the staff is very attentive... they bring your food to the table... and come by often to check on you The restaurant is on a street with no driving or parking... blocked off for the restaurants...cute... Laguna Parking is issue... every thing is paid parking.... We parked on the street it is $6.00 per hour or you can do an all day parking for $25.00....
The Americano was decent, nothing very special about it. They don't have flavors so you have to rely on honey or sugar packets that are provided. The sandwich was good, however, I personally wasn't the biggest fan of the bread texture. The madeleine was the best part, perfectly baked and the right amount of sweetness.
Outstanding Service Ruth! I just had to leave a review because Ruth gave me the best customer support experience I've had in a long time. From the very first moment, she was so kind, patient, and professional that it honestly felt like I was being helped at a cozy little café in France. The way she communicated was smooth and reassuring--like "no worries, I've got you" but in the most elegant, classy way. Merci beaucoup, Ruth!!!
We really wanted to love this place but it just kept missing the mark. Overall, it wasn't a terrible lunch but too many issues that would prevent us from returning. Staff is all super friendly and helpful whether it's at the cashier or the busser, they were all great. We had a small group so we ordered a variety of items. The baguette sandwiches were a good size but the baguettes were dry, stale, and very hard to chew. Nothing like true Parisien style. The jambon fromage and saucisson had a good amount of filling but the lettuce in the jambon fromage doesn't make sense. No jambon sandwich in France has lettuce in it. The croque madame was solid. Nicely toasted and thick bread, perfectly cooked egg, it was cheesy, great ham, but the side salad was just subpar. Wilted lettuce and no actual "dressing" except for simple balsamic. Now for the pastries. The plain croissant was soft, chewy, and very mild in flavor. The issue seems to be they stack all the pastries in a small "container" like display so they all become soft on top of one another. The almond croissant was actually pretty good! Crunchy with a semi sweet almond paste. Thee Parisien Flan was a mix. The custard or "flan" filling was great, rich, and velvety. The crust was lacking. Very tough and dry, not flaky and crumbly as it should be. And the Almond tart was just a fail. It was oddly gummy, the almonds were burnt, and the crust was rock hard.
The obvious pros for dog people is that there are various outside areas with tables, and the whole area is dog friendly. The restaurant has their own seating, but it's a bit more cramped. We got brunch on a holiday weekday and food came out fairly quickly. We got it to go, but ended up eating outdoors. The omelet tasted like they forgot salt, and the egg white on the croque monsieur was somehow slimy while the egg yolk was overcooked. The bread on the monsieur, however, was thick and fluffy and had a nice cheese-bake. The cheese pull on the inside of the monsieur was also great, with a decent amount of ham. The pastries were definitely the star as all 3 of the ones we got were items we'd get again.
Amazing meal at Moulin. We were looking for coffee and breakfast in Laguna beach, and saw the long line- a long line usually means a great spot right?! They have a case full of fresh sandwiches and pastries all of which looked delicious and incredible. If we were in town for longer I would have stocked up. I ordered the veggie omelette which was SO GOOD. They asked if I'd like to add French cheese which I of course, did. Perfectly filling and was accompanied by fresh fruit and a slice of bread with apricot preserves. Next time I'll try the coffee... :D
On Monday I visited Moulin for brunch. It's a cute little French bistro with red umbrellas and outside tables they have homemade bread and pastries, I had a hard time making a decision on what to eat everything looked delicious. I ordered a croque monsieur that came with an arugula salad with a delicious vinegarette 10/10 I also ordered an iced macchiato and an almond croissant that were divine. The crepes looked so good too but will have to order on my next visit. I can't wait to go back. read more
First of all, their French style coffee is exactly how I like it, and the strength of the coffee shows up in their latte's. They're small but very good. The sandwiches are premade, so if you're in a hurry, this is the best alternative to fast food. Just about anything on a French roll will be good. Dessert is a must. The chocolates are rich and creamy, love them. The fruit tarts will not disappoint. read more

Cute little spot tucked away on Forest Ave. With so many options for pastries, how can one decide? We tried one of the sandwiches with prosciutto and it was yummy! What I love about this spot is their fresh, flaky pastries. There were several customers speaking French, so that leads me to believe that this place is one of the more authentic French bakeries. Their fresh salad and quiche are a great, healthy breakfast option. The decor is a cute, classy french cafe vibe. I think I'm going to have to come back and try their other pastries and sandwiches/food because during my first time there recently, the few pastries we ordered weren't that great. I ordered a mini croissant, mini apricot danish and a madeleine. The best tasting one was the apricot danish, it was buttery, mildy sweet. The croissant was very dry and chewy, it was early in the morning so it should've been very fresh right? The Madeline was ok, kind of dry also. Decor and ambiance of this bakery was very cute. There is always a line so they must be doing something right... we probably should've tried the normal size pastures? Maybe I will come back when in the area and try other food items. An adorable french cafe located near the Laguna beach oceanfront. We ordered the quiche and croque madame, both of which came out quickly and were plated well. The drink menu was limited but the coffee was well made. Overall a good brunch location close to beach access. read more
Delicate pastries and desserts that look and taste fantastic! We walked in and ended up trying the Yuzu Lychee Bar (5/5, yuzu flavor is definitely there), Tropezienne (5/5, devoured very quickly), Peach Opera (5/5), Berry Tart (4.5/5), and Pavlova a la Peche (4/5). Cute shop! read more

Moulin is such a beautiful spot! We were planning on eating at one of the beachview restaurants, but stumbled on this gem and decided to grab some sandwiches to eat on the beach! There are lots of beautiful shaded outdoor seatings so we also ordered the tropezienne slice, chocolate croissant, madeleine, and a cappucino to eat while there. The staff was very friendly and when we asked for recommendations, she highly recommend the tropezienne slice and chocolate croissant (one of the baker speciality pastries according to the staff- so if you see the chocolate croissant, I'd take it!) This place will now be my go-to spot to get a quick bite for a beach picnic! read more
I miss Paris and I dream of French baguettes with butter and ham! This place helps me get all my fixes! Dijon mustard, fresh salads, great coffee and fantastic desserts! I would come here every Saturday if I could! Be mindful it is busy here on weekends, you'll be in line but it moves quickly and it's worth it. They make everything in the am and they can sell out. Get there early to make sure you get what you want. You order at the counter then grab a number and a table. They also have a cute little market place for Sundries to purchase like French Dijon Amora that is the best in the world! Come in hungry and leave with lots of goodies! read more

Disappointed. We just landed in LAX hungry and wanted to grab good brunch and yelped for it. Displayed nice and everything looked so good but.... I had Brie walnuts sandwich. Sorry but horrible. The bread is not tasty at all and dry and barely eatable. Brie was like tofu. Somehow first few bites tasted fish. I was very very sad. We have been to Antibes/Nice two simmers in a row before covid and I know what I am talking about. French bread with simple brie melted our mouth. Not sure why the high rate here. Lequiche lorriane was pretty good. A-. Cafe latte was also disappointing. It was like light anerican coffee with milk and dunkin donuts coffee is even much more tastier. United Airline's coffee with fake milk was more enjoyable today. read more
Solid French eatery with quality coffee and pastry! I was surprised to see a line upon opening at 8 AM. Be prepared to pay for parking due to Laguna beach parking ($5.40 an hour). The shop is small with few table and outdoor seating. You can always to go and eat on the beach if it's too crowded. They have various sandwich, soup, omelette, and pastries. We got the latte ($5) , coffee ($3),French onion soup ($9), ham sandwich on baguette ($14), and mousse cake ($8). Although it's pricy for breakfast, you pay for the quality. The French onion soup was cheesy with good onion flavor, a little too rich and salty for me but BF liked it! The ham sandwich had tons of ham, with simple flavor from baguette. The mousse was decadent and rich, a bit too sweet but creamy mousse texture. Overall a treat meal breakfast! Highly recommend for anyone craving quality pastries or sandwich. read more

The good: Oui, oui, oui! This place was pure perfect! It was our first stop during our first trip to Laguna Beach. It's location is wonderful because it's walking distance to the main beach and it's centrally located in a very walkable area with lots of other restaurants and boutiques. I loved the food offerings and also loved the ambience and decor. I tried a smoked salmon sandwich with avocado, a canele, a hot dog pastry for the toddler and an a slice of tarte tropezienne. The tarte tropezienne (brioche bread with cream in the middle and orange zest with Grand Marnier) was our favorite! It was 100% up our flavor palette. It had a panettone flavor with the almond extract and the cream inside was light and not too rich or sweet. I've never had this pastry elsewhere before and I definitely would love to eat it again. They have outdoor seating under the overhang but also in a parklet. It's a great space to people watch or to meetup with a friend. There's also indoor seating (where we sat). I really loved the packaged offerings and drinks as well. I was impressed they had Orangina! Fun fact: this is Mandy Moore and my mom's favorite drink. They also had packaged madeleines and freshly made madeleines too that were larger than your average ones. They also have salads, crepes, and breakfast items like omelettes. I loved the French cafe chairs that were more detailed than the average with the scalloped shape and various colors. I liked the vintage-style French art posters with the clown (my toddler's favorite). I liked that the hot dog pastry came with Dijon mustard as well as mayo and ketchup. It was also heated up and brought out to our table for us. The bad: I wish they were closer to my house. I'd absolutely order cakes from here. A drunk guy came in to the register and harassed the French worker woman and subsequently got arrested or in some sort of trouble with police. The interesting: They have 6 SoCal locations. My mom also makes caneles. The ones here were sweeter and more rum-tasting than my mom's. They offer catering and party trays. read more

I was looking for a coffee shop on Thanksgiving day, and this was one of the only spots open in the area. The reviews and pictures looked good, so I came to check it out. I ordered a cappuccino, eclair, and Millefuille (probably spelled that wrong). Overall, service was great. The person taking our order was polite and explained the different pastries to us and was very patient with all the customers. The woman who handed us the pastries and coffee asked if we needed a bag and even placed it in there for me when she noticed my hands were full. The coffee just tasted like hot water. There was so coffee flavor. It was extremely crowded inside, which could explain why coffee was rushed out and didn't taste good. The eclair was extremely dry, but the filling was delicious. The millefuille was the star of the show. Overall, service was the highlight out my visit, but I don't expect to be back since 2/3 of my order was pretty disappointing. The inside is very tight and hard to move through. I would try to come on an off day if you decide you want to check this cafe out. read more

Coffee selection is not extensive and the coffee itself is just fine, however, where they really shine is their list of pastries. They have ready made sandwiches in a true French deli fashion and an exhaustive amount of pastries to choose from. One pastry can be up to $7 so it is a bit pricey. read more
My review reflects this location in Laguna Beach on Main Street. First Impressions: (5) I don't live in Paris but this is about as close as I can get to a Paris experience here in Southern California. The restaurant has an outdoor seating area with an outdoor street patio feel. There are all kinds of interesting people who walk by as you sip your delicious cappuccino and butter croissant. They play French music and display French art on the walls. You can't get any better. Service: (3) One must stand in line and wait until you get to the register to order. On the positive, you get to stare at the wonderful pastries. The line is usually very long. The service is what you get at Starbucks. There is no tip involved. Food Taste: (3) We had omelettes and a quiche. The food was simple and authentic. I find it a bit bland and lacks creativity. Fresh avocado and a nice cream sauce would elevate the omelettes to five stars, but as it was delivered, it was bland and ordinary. Food Freshness: (4) We loved to fresh pastries and bread. Each meal came with a small salad that had no dressing or croutons. Just looking at freshness, everything is made fresh. Food Value: (3) Remember that nice view and atmosphere, well, you pay for it with the food prices. For three small breakfast meals, and one coffee, our bill was more than $60. The portions are good size, but you pay for it when the bill comes. Total points =. 18 points, divided by 5 = 3.6 Stars rounds up to 4 stars read more

Super friendly staff, the inviting smell of perfectly crafted pastries and espresso drinks. I love Moulin and finding reasons to stop by when I'm in the area. The cafe is in a charming little part of Laguna Beach with a whimsical small town vibe. The decor of Moulin is that of a playful French theme with the tastes to really convey the experience to the customers. Great little place to take a coffee break, any time of day. read more

Best croissants outside of Paris! There are several locations, but I love downtown LB. Lots of paid parking, boutiques, and of course the beach! My go to is a plain croissant and Americano, my husband likes the almond croissant. I took my sister's family from San Diego here when we met up. She tried the baguette sandwich, very close to what I tasted in France. It would have been near perfect if it was defrosted a little more. My nephew didn't care for the crepe, but I think it's because he's used to Japanese ones. He did ask me to buy him another croissant though! read more

Cute little French bakery! I took a quick look at their menu, but decided I was only hungry enough for a pastry. I got a mini pie and it was delicious! There's not a ton of seating, but there is more outside. My sister got the almond croissant and said it tasted super fresh. Highly recommend if you're looking for a light lunch or snack. FYI - the line can get pretty long but moves fast. read more
I loved this cute little French cafe. It was right in the main shopping area in Laguna Beach. It is very charming. We had breakfast there on a Saturday morning. We didn't have to wait too long, but it is also off season. We ordered a breakfast croissant and omelet. Both were really good! We were able to sit outside as they had many tables. We also had our dog with us. I would definitely go back in the future. read more
Came to the area on a Saturday before noon and all brunch places are packed. Instead of waiting for more than an hour at another place, my friends and I came to this location to get take out for a picnic at the beach. Line was outside the door and we waited for about 20 min. Sandwiches and pastries on display looked delicious and they also have fresh squeezed orange juice. I ordered La Croque Madame, which is an egg on top of the La Croque Monsieur :p. It was served hot and it was delicious. The sunny side up egg gave the ham and cheese grilled sandwich the moisture, gave it better texture and made it photogenic. It also comes with a little box of salad to balance out the meal. This place is a great take out choice for hungry people. The pastries are delicious too. This is a great location, although parking is typical laguna beach parking, always difficult. read more

I bought the Quiche Lorraine because based on the reviews where people said it was good. However, my quiche was not light and fluffy like quiche I've had in the past and it was overcooked. The first quiche I got was darker than this one, and the second one was still dark based on quiche I've cooked and eaten at other restaurants. I would not recommend the quiche based on my experience eating it. read more
