The people, the outdoor seating, the pastries, and the overall vibe make you feel like you're sitting at a café somewhere in Europe. My favorite way to start the day is with a hot sandwich and a coffee on the patio. The service is always friendly, efficient, and welcoming. The area is currently undergoing construction, which makes visiting a little less convenient, but the café is still open and well worth the visit. From the delicious food (more specifically the Mille Feuille), to the fast service, and the rustic French interior made this a staple for me whenever I visit the Laguna area. Cute small shop in the heart of Laguna. Just like their flag shop store, they do have everything you're looking for. They got pastries, cakes, sandwiches, crepes, breakfast, little shop, coffees and nice & friendly service. The store is very chic and spacious with both indoor and patio seating area. I'd been craving buttery pastries for weeks, and on Monday I happened to be in the area. I'd stopped by Forest Ave and realized Moulin was nearby too! I've been to the Newport location maybe three or four times, so I'm pretty familiar with their pastries. I was excited to finally visit the Laguna Beach spot. It's definitely smaller than Newport, but as long as they have the pastries, I'm happy. Everything in the case looked incredible--I honestly wanted to try them all. I settled on a butter croissant, a pain au chocolat, and a cannelle. Clearly, I wasn't holding back; the craving needed to be satisfied that day. My favorite was the cannelle--I could really taste the rum, and now I regret not grabbing five or six of them. Also, I'm very glad I went on a Monday... Was expensive at $15 per sandwich! They used super hard bread, prolly should have asked for them to be heated up but I had no time and grabbed to go to eat outside at the tables and chairs. I've been back here several times in the past 5 years. It's consistently a good spot, both the one in Dana Point and San Clemente. The only thing I don't always appreciate is that because both these locations are smaller than the original, they don't have all the same menu items. And that is a total bummer. I really like the Quiche Lorraine, the San Tropezienne pastry (sweet brioche cake with pastry cream in the middle), and other pastries as well. The food is always consistent and good. It's not out of this world amazing, but it's always consistently good and a great place to go to grab a casual bite to eat. I love Moulin. I have a store down the street from the Laguna location and I have never been disappointed in the food or service. The baguettes are the best ever! All the food is top notch. The pastries and deserts and delicious. And finally, the service is great. I've always been treated nicely and they are extremely efficient in getting the orders out. The Americano was decent, nothing very special about it. They don't have flavors so you have to rely on honey or sugar packets that are provided. We really wanted to love this place but it just kept missing the mark. Overall, it wasn't a terrible lunch but too many issues that would prevent us from returning. Staff is all super friendly and helpful whether it's at the cashier or the busser, they were all great. We had a small group so we ordered a variety of items. The baguette sandwiches were a good size but the baguettes were dry, stale, and very hard to chew. Nothing like true Parisien style. The jambon fromage and saucisson had a good amount of filling but the lettuce in the jambon fromage doesn't make sense. No jambon sandwich in France has lettuce in it. The croque madame was solid. Nicely toasted and thick bread, perfectly cooked egg, it was cheesy, great ham, but the side salad was just subpar. Wilted lettuce and no actual "dressing" except for simple balsamic. Now for the pastries. The plain croissant was soft, chewy, and very mild in flavor. The issue seems to be they stack all the pastries in a small "container" like display so they all become soft on top of one another. The almond croissant was actually pretty good! Crunchy with a semi sweet almond paste. Thee Parisien Flan was a mix. The custard or "flan" filling was great, rich, and velvety. The crust was lacking. Very tough and dry, not flaky and crumbly as it should be. And the Almond tart was just a fail. It was oddly gummy, the almonds were burnt, and the crust was rock hard. read more

The obvious pros for dog people is that there are various outside areas with tables, and the whole area is dog friendly. The restaurant has their own seating, but it's a bit more cramped. We got brunch on a holiday weekday and food came out fairly quickly. We got it to go, but ended up eating outdoors. The omelet tasted like they forgot salt, and the egg white on the croque monsieur was somehow slimy while the egg yolk was overcooked. The bread on the monsieur, however, was thick and fluffy and had a nice cheese-bake. The cheese pull on the inside of the monsieur was also great, with a decent amount of ham. Amazing meal at Moulin. We were looking for coffee and breakfast in Laguna beach, and saw the long line- a long line usually means a great spot right?! They have a case full of fresh sandwiches and pastries all of which looked delicious and incredible. If we were in town for longer I would have stocked up. I have been to the Newport Beach location several times, but this was my first time at their cafe in Laguna Beach. This location is definitely smaller and parking isn't as easy. However, it's literally within walking distance to the beach. There was plenty of seating when we went on a Friday afternoon. The service was quick and friendly as well. The pastries are great. I always order a chocolate eclair whenever I visit Moulin. There is always a great selection of pastries. I have been a fan of Moulin ever since they opened their first location in Newport Beach. Recently, I visit the Laguna Beach location more frequently. It is a breadth of fresh air as far as authentic French food is concerned, as there are very few places in OC (or even in California, for that matter) that serves good quality Parisien cuisines at a very reasonable price. French staples such as croque monsieur or madame are always great, as are their crêpes. I particularly like their crêpe complete which is filled with delicious, diced ham, emmantel cheese, Béchamel (a creamy white sauce) and topped with a sunny side up egg. My other favorite food when I have a hearty appetite is poulet frites - a half roasted chicken with fries and a side salad. Moulin always does a perfect job with their chicken, which is served with the most delicious "au jus" or chicken gravy. After lunch, we saw the sign in the window that said during construction, they will provide a free drip coffee per person with a $20 order before tax. We had a $65 order and asked for 2 drip coffees. Three staff members said no, it's one coffee for each receipt, NOT per person. We ultimately asked for 2 cups with the one coffee and left very frustrated.
