However, why is it that when I order takeout, for some reason the portion size magically becomes reduced to practically nothing compared to what I receive when I dine in. This is extremely frustrating because although I'm not dining in, I am still a paying customer. I'm still paying the exact same amount? Why is it that to go customers don't receive the same quality? This is a cool place that you wouldn't expect in orange county. It's more like what you'd expect in an East-coast eatery like Reading terminal market in Philly. I just love this place. My absolute favorite is the La Salade Moulin. Its a fresh take on a chicken caesar with big crusty croutons, pine nuts, lots of parm cheese and lots of pesto chicken perfectly cooked. The dressing is just perfect. Obsessed. I really love Moulin I've been to both locations the first one is smaller, and this one is much bigger and more interesting. It feels nicer to sit here and enjoy the atmosphere. The pastries are delicious fresh, light, and not overly sweet, which I personally love. The flavors are well balanced and you can really taste the quality. The sandwiches are also very tasty fresh, flavorful, and made with great ingredients. My husband and my friend were also very impressed everyone found something they liked, and everything we tried was truly tasty. To a certain extent this place achieves for French food what Eataly does for Italian food, lol. There's a cafe, a deli, a bakery, and a small retail shop all rolled up into one space. They seem to do it very efficiently and they've done it for years. I actually been here about 10 years ago, but recently visited with a buddy of mine when I was in the area. The service seemed to be really friendly at the different areas that I went to. On the recent visit, I didn't do a sit down meal, but I grabbed some baked goods as well as some small items from the retail area. The baked goods were amazing and I enjoyed the French products I purchased the tin fish and had it for lunch at a later time along with some baguette and butter. All the food just looked really good and I can remember correctly when I actually did have a sit down meal here years ago. I thought it was great. Came to Moulin on a misty Saturday morning with a friend after searching for a nearby coffee shop--and wow, this place is so much more than just that! It's a coffee shop, pastry shop, dessert spot, casual eatery, and even a mini grocer all in one. I loved it. So unique and charming. Walking through Moulin and seeing all the food on display made me want to try everything. I wish my stomach had more room! We grabbed a café au lait, a hazelnut pastry, and a chocolate pastry to share. The pastries were beautiful and delicious--the hazelnut one was my favorite. The coffee hit the spot and was perfect for a cozy catch-up. A heads-up: indoor seating is very limited, and while there's a cute outdoor area, it might be tough on a cold day since there are no heat lamps. Still, totally worth the visit. TLDR: come for the tarts, patisserie, and butter; skip out on the croissants Moulin is a mixed bag for me, yet I am amazed at and appreciative of how they've expanded in such a short time while consistently producing authentic French treats for South OC. Their tarts shells are the best I've ever had - thin, buttery, and crisp inside and out with smooth fillings that carry flavor well without being too sweet. The tarts (small and large) are also beautiful so they make amazing gifts. Their other patisserie items are definitely on the good side; I like the St. Honore the most from the ones I've tried so far. I would skip the flan (better could be found) and the laminated goods like croissants, almond croissant, pan au chocolat (better can definitely be found). I've noticed they are on the heavy side with not many layers but also very dry and crumbly. I can't say this is bc it's French style either because I've had many a croissant in France. Also, they sell imported fancy French butter (like Maison Bordier) if you're into that. Overall, Moulin is a solid 4-star bakery and their current rating seems to match that well. read more

One of our family favorites. Bringing home pastries are a given, but we get the hot foods and their cold sandwiches also. Most items are good if not great. E.g. we got a crepe, a vol-au-vent, a chicken pesto and a jambon-beurre sandwich. All were good, esp the vol-au-vent - the kids loved it. Completely disappeared in a flash. The jambon-beurre unfortunately, I'm guessing, was constructed to avoid shocking the average American. The beurre is supposed to be in thick layers, acting basically as a sauce. However, that's far more butter than the usual American diner is used to. So all I got was a very thin layer. Almost just a jambon (no beurre). Oh well. I'll go with a different choice next time. I started off 2026 with lunch at this Parisian Bakery with my kiddo. This place is always buzzing with people, so I was curious to try it. This is located in a business plaza at the corner of Bristol Street and Dove Street. The Bristol Street in this area (between Redhill/Santa Ana Avenue and Jamboree Road) is split up by the CA 73, so you can only go northbound to get to the plaza. The parking lot seems plentiful, but gets crazy during lunch hours as there are a few other eateries here other than Moulin (although I think everyone is trying to find parking to go to Moulin). At first glance, it was a bit confusing to find the entrance, as there is another restaurant called "Bouillon" next to it that looks similar. I found out later that Bouillon is owned by Moulin, which explains the same red decor. I guess Moulin is like a bakery cafe (closes at 3:00p), and Bouillon is like a casual classic French dinner spot (open for lunch, too, but closes at 9:00p). Upon entering, we were greeted by a nice employee behind the counter/display cases, and kindly explained to us that we can either get sandwiches on the deli side (which is where he was), or walk over to the right side to order breakfast, other meals, and sweets. We checked out the sandwich case and decided to get the chicken pesto sandwich ($15.00?) and chicken pesto panini ($10.00). As we walked down the aisle, we also got the potato salad and Greek salad, both half full in the containers (we were able to specify it that way as it was priced by weight). We also got the potato gratin, which another employee put 2 servings on our order since the first one she picked was small (also priced by weight?). We both got bottled drinks and paid at the counter - total with tip came out to $72.07! Turned out to be a pricey lunch so although we wanted to go back and get sweets and pastries to take home, we decided not to. The sandwiches were good. The panini later arrived perfectly pressed, delicately toasted on the outside and easy to bite into. The cold chicken pesto sandwich was good, too and a nice size, but the bread was tough to chew off, so my kiddo with braces had to pass after one bite. The potato salad was hearty and the Greek salad was super fresh. The potato gratin was really good, too, not too rich. It was a lot of food so we took the leftovers home...my kiddo thought everything was just okay, but I thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and was pretty happy to have my first dine-in experience of the year to be at such a delicious place! read more

Not only do they serve up all things delectable, but this eatery also acts as a Fresh-inspired storefront, selling your go-to European products. It's the perfect spot for a grab-and-go meal. A lot of their sandwiches, paninis, and baguettes are premade, making Moulin a super convenient lunch stop. I've had a chance to try their chicken and pesto paninis, a number of their croissants, eclairs, macarons, and a few lattes. While their food is always top tier, I have found their lattes to be a bit bland - understandable considering iced lattes are nearly impossible to find in France. While I typically grab my meal to-go, they also have a lovely outdoor patio for el fresco dining. Be warned, just like France itself, there tends to be cigarette smoke. read more

I visit here as often as I can and always if I'm in the area. If I miss them for breakfast or lunch, I visit their sister restaurant next door, Bouillon, for dinner. While it's almost always busy, the staff is always so cheerful and helpful. I usually know what I want so I can go through quickly, but it's always good to see if they have something special in the salad or hot entrée areas. The café is laid out perfectly with several order counters depending on what you want to eat or drink. It's brightly lit with a lot of French flare and merchandise all around. What it does have may be fewer and farther in between, but worth the extra long drive in the suburbian OC roads.
