Moulin is a really nice cafe and patisserie in Newport, near John Wayne airport. The desserts look stunning and they're tasty. They have a tempting assortment of fresh breads, baguettes, sandwiches, and cheeses. I also like that they have a boulangerie (bread bakery) and bistro in the same plaza. The bistro a few spaces down has some excellent dinner options, but that's technically a different restaurant. I like to come here when I want to select from a broad assortment of French pastries; however it's not my top choice for any specific thing. But it's really nice to come in on a morning for jambon and cheese on a fresh baguette. On this morning, I was able to drink a coffee and eat a salted caramel macaron, while watching a World Cup soccer match. They do everything really nicely, and Moulin is a great place to get a really beautiful dessert that can be a centerpiece on any table

The ham and cheese sandwich was good but very salty and greasy. I don't think I will try it again but that's because I have recently been more sensitive to salt. The coffee in the cup was delicious and great because I love enjoying coffee in a real cup not in paper cups. Their croissant is delicious and my friend said they make things the way real French do. He travels a lot so I believe him. The place was very clean and crowded when I got there. Recommended

Another wonderful day at Moulin. The closest thing to Europe in Newport Beach. Grab a pastry and a coffee and sit in the sun and listen to the fountain. Have a nice talk with a friend. I just love the place. Time to slow down and relax. This is the place. I recommend it with five stars.

I had been craving a croque madame and I was blown away by this spot! Their prepared food looked amazing and the whole room was filled with wonderful aromas. We decided on eating breakfast there and taking some pastries to go! The outdoor seating was nice and we were able to get our food within 10 minutes of ordering which was amazing. Their staff were very friendly to use since it was our first time and even gave us some recommendations on what to try. I'm looking forward to going back again very soon!

Everytime I am near by I always try and stop for some viennoiserie and pâtisserie. Love their almond croissants and other breakfast pastries. Their desserts are also decadent and worth trying. The Paris-Brest and Opera are yummy. Friendly staff and helpful. Located in a strip mall on Bristol, the space is on the bland side, though not sure there is much you can do to enhance it.

Moulin provided it all ~ a spectacular French brunch, strong and smooth lattes, phenomenal service, and the cutest, most inviting atmosphere. I'm looking forward to returning (to this location or one of their others) to check out more of the menu, and take home some French cheese and pate!

Usually go here for lunch 1-2 times a week and grab something from the hot bar selections. Their chicken is solid if you're looking for something healthy. Veggies are also good as well as some of the hot sides. Panini sandwiches are pretty good also. Vibes are amazing and get's pretty busy during peak lunch time. Staff are friendly and service is pretty quick. I'm not personally into pastries so much but have tried bits and pieces here and there, all great as well as their coffees. Plenty of French stuff including imported butter that they sell in the store as well. Recommended and will keep coming back!

I've tried multiple pastries from here and decided to pick up a birthday cake here for my husband! SO GLAD I DID On their website, they have a lovely little guide that gives you all the details along with illustrations of the cakes as there are a ton of layers. There were so many great options, but I opted for the Chocolate Hazelnut Cake (chocolate sponge, hazelnut praline crunchy, chocolate cremeux, candied hazelnuts, milk chocolate mousse, milk chocolate glaze). THIS CAKE WAS PERFECTION I called two days ahead to order and ended up speaking with the manager (I believe her name is Katia) and she was so friendly and kind! I picked a cake, added a chocolate plaque, and paid by phone. Nice and easy! The day of, the cake was ready to go. I was in and out of there in a minute and the workers were so kind. It was also Halloween and they even complimented my costume haha The cake was GORGEOUS! OMG When I pulled it out of the box, everyone said wooooow THE CAKE WAS AMAZING!! The layers! I ate it layer by layer just to try and understand how all the flavors came together. It was truly a beautifully created cake. Not only did they think of how the flavors complimented one another, but they also considered textures. Loved the crunchy elements along with the silky mousse. One of the best cakes I've ever had!

Remember my first MOULIN review when I said I'd be back? Yeah... I've been back at least ten times, (yes 10X in less than 3 weeks) and dragged half my girlfriends with me because I'm fully obsessed. The food? Unreal. Delicioso! The service? Richard deserves a medal for being consistently kind, efficient, and on it. When a restaurant's staff call you by your first name, and can accurately guess your favorite foods, I'd say KUDOS to the Owner for training them well. The ambience? I love the energy here. It's addicting. And don't start with me gawking at their desserts and pastries. I told myself I'd lose all the holiday weight I've gained but for some reason 'logic' flies out the window the moment I step in there. DUH. And listen... I almost don't want to admit how OBSESSED I am with their Smoked Salmon Sandwich, because every time I show up it's either close to being gone or there's one sad little survivor left. My heart dropped so hard the other day (when I saw the one last Salmon sandwich) you'd think I'd just locked eyes with a starving French bulldog.

Food was excellent as always and service is stellar for a non-full service restaurant. The only wonky thing is that the food items in the case are served cold. May not sound that odd but when it's Cod and Potatoes au Gratin, it's unexpected. We also went with the La Galette Complète this time. Unique to us and it did not disappoint. Coming back tomorrow just to pick up pastries for a party.

Overall great experience - I suppose it's hard to be unhappy in this cool of a place. I went in for the parties but they've got a whole experience built out in there with full service, cases for pre prepared foods, and cases for French products. Staff was great and will be returning to try more.

The setup feels like an authentic French place - to-order restaurant items, a bakery, a deli section, and small market items. The meal food was good, but I'd say on the lighter/blander side. Their pastries are the star of the show for me. Would definitely come back specifically for the saint honore, and fruit mousse cake which had passionfruit notes. Really enjoyed the extensive patio seating.

    Rachel N.

Delicious pastries and the coziest ambience! Their almond croissants and pain au chocolat are perfectly flaky and I love how the bakery section gives you the option of purchasing full size or mini size pastries. Their takeout sandwiches are also great (especially enjoyed the jambon fromage, chicken pesto, and bayonnais!) and the crepes look amazing as well. Will definitely revisit to try more of their coffee and entree items!

No white table cloths and candles, but the highest quality for a very reasonable price. This is one of the best places in Orange County for food cost, taste, and value. Highly recommended.

I started with the Singe Germain, made with Monkey 47 Gin, St. Germain, crème de cassis, and lemon juice. This was easily one of the best cocktails I have ever had. It was so good that I ordered two more. My wife got the Rizière de Lychee, which seemed like their take on a lychee martini. The vanilla notes made it unique and really enjoyable, but we both agreed that the Singe Germain was the star cocktail of the night. One of our favorite appetizers at any restaurant is yellowtail crudo or hamachi, and Marché Moderne's version was incredible. The fish practically melted in our mouths, but the mango-yuzu-jalapeño sorbet on top was ridiculous. That sorbet could honestly be served as its own dish. Our only complaint was how quickly the whole thing disappeared. We also tried the grilled octopus petit plat. It leaned more Spanish than French to me, especially with the chorizo, and the potatoes and chorizo ended up being our favorite parts. We both tend to prefer cold appetizers over hot ones, so next time we will probably try the tataki instead, but the octopus was still very good. We ordered the bread as well. Despite all the reviews praising it, I thought it was good, but not necessarily life-changing. The real star was the butter with the big flakes of salt on top. For our mains, my wife ordered the Hokkaido scallops and I got the filet au poivre, essentially their steak frites. The steak frites was incredible. The sauce alone was enough reason to order the entire dish. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare, and the tableside presentation made it feel even more special. They first placed down the fries and salad, then brought over the steak in the sauce, transferred it onto the plate, and poured the sauce over the top. They asked whether I wanted sauce over the fries too, which was obviously an immediate yes. The fries were good, although I thought they could have used a little more salt. The salad surprised me the most. I originally assumed it was just there to fill out the plate, but the vinaigrette was fantastic and made it something I actually wanted to keep eating. My wife loved the scallops, which was not surprising because she is a huge scallop fan. The dish itself was somewhat bare, though. It was essentially a few scallops with sauce, so if we had not also been sharing the steak frites and several appetizers, I do not think it would have been enough for her as an entrée by itself. Lastly, we ordered the crème brûlée, and this might have been the best dish of the entire night. It came with berries and a hazelnut cake underneath. Because we were celebrating our anniversary, they wrote "Happy 5 Year Anniversary" in chocolate ganache next to it, which paired ridiculously well with the crème brûlée. That little detail also perfectly summarizes the service. Our server answered every question I had about the menu, asked what we were celebrating, recommended the incredible Singe Germain, and made us feel completely at home. Another gentleman came by to talk with us, and we casually mentioned that it was our fifth anniversary. They did not just remember that it was an anniversary. They remembered that it was five years and included that specific detail on our dessert plate. That extra bit of thoughtfulness meant a lot to us. My only small disappointment was the seating. I had heard that one side of the restaurant has a large window where you can watch the chefs cook, but we were seated closer to the bar and could not see it. It did not hurt the meal, but next time I would love to request a table on the kitchen side. My wife and I have eaten at Michelin-starred restaurants from California to New York City, including everything from one to three stars, and Marché Moderne has the makings of something truly special. The food was excellent, but the service and hospitality took the entire experience to another level. Overall, this was about a 4.7 out of 5 for us. We will absolutely be back, and I cannot believe it took us five years to finally come here.

A perfect restaurant for a night out!…read more I would honestly give a 5/5 in all areas to The Dock, the food was exquisite and the staff were all very friendly and attentive. The space is a bit small but very lovely and you can see the harbor right from where you eat. There's even a private walkway you can go to and take pictures or enjoy the scenery. We got the halibut, scallops, lamb, duck, and (not pictured here) the soup de jour which, for us, was the gazpacho. Overall I would say everything was a delight to eat, everything was tender, juicy, and had just the right amount of sauce and toppings. For me, the soup was the stand out though, one of the best gazpachos I've ever had and I'm not usually a cold soup kind of person. The dock is an upscale seafood restaurant that I believe may use French inspired techniques? Which I would say is the only critique I could have of it. Everything was so tender and perfect, some dishes started feeling a little one note (a very very good note though). There were a variety of ingredients that came on all the plates that, but felt like they never veered far enough to create a more interesting balance for the palate. A classic complaint of my steak too juicy, my lobster too buttery. But technique-wise everything was executed perfectly but I would say if you are more of an adventurous eater you should definitely talk to your waiter/waitress and ask for their advice. Would definitely recommend for any special occasion or if you want enjoy the most fork (dare I even say, spoon) tender meal of your life.

I loved that the soup was perfectly seasoned and didn't require any extra salt or pepper. Finally the dessert special was a pavlova topped with strawberry ice cream, whipped cream, and strawberries. It was delicate, flavorful, and had an amazing combination of textures. We can't wait to go back! I wish I had pictures but the experience felt so intentional and special that I didn't want to take away from the moment with photos. Make sure you visit! Food that tastes like the person preparing it actually cares is rare in this world.

Cozy dining in a relaxed yet efficient style generally unavailable anywhere else. Sharing a delicious seared scallop and risotto appetizer with a glass of white Burgundy transitioned to beef Bourgogne for me and steak au poivre for my bride of 47 years accompanied by a Bordeaux, both available in half bottles. Nice. A celebratory crème brulie was a fitting conclusion. Attention to details like artisan bread with soft and luxurious butter, hot food served piping hot, quality stemware in a warm and unpretentious dining room. And if all that were not enough, the menu and wine pricing are extremely reasonable. Shhhh.... Unless NPB glam is essential, for those that appreciate dining of quality over being seen, Basilic is not to be missed.

The inside was intimate and good for a date night. We ordered the Filet Mignon with pepper sauce, the potato's for appetizer, and the Rack of lamb. We also got a Crème brulee for dessert! Everything we got was delicious and cooked PERFECTLY. I have never had such a good medium rare steak. Would recommend!

Service was quick and friendly, everything we ordered came out extremely fast. FOOD (4/5): $19 ENDIVE SALAD: such a simple salad, but dressed perfectly and seriously can't go wrong here! The blue cheese is AMAZING. I could eat a whole bowl of just that. Great refreshing starter with a vinaigrette sauce. $16 RACLETTE POTATOES: potatoes with melted cheese and prosciutto. I wished the prosciutto was cut into smaller pieces, but this is the perfect saltiness. Yummy! $76 RIBEYE (16 OZ): enough to share between 2 people, at least for us gals. Served medium rare with the shallot sauce. This sauce was a bit more mild than I expected, but delicious nonetheless. $24 CAMEBERT CHEESE: we got this for dessert and it's HUGE! It's a whole head of baked camebert (think the size of Brie, very similar) and served with toasted baguette. Very sticky, very creamy, very tasty!

Knife Pleat at South Coast Plaza is one of the three closest I've found to a proper afternoon tea here in Orange County, and as someone born and raised in Britain for 20 years, I hope that's high praise! Haha! I've been at least five or six times now, and every single visit has been wonderful! The afternoon tea is beautifully done. The tiered stands are a feast: delicate finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, exquisite little pastries and macarons, all elegantly presented and genuinely delicious. The tea selection is excellent, and everything tastes as refined as it looks. What keeps me coming back, beyond the quality, is the service. They've consistently and graciously accommodated my allergies every time, which makes such a difference and lets me relax and enjoy the experience fully. The staff are attentive and lovely. If you're looking for an authentic, elegant afternoon tea in Orange County, Knife Pleat is the place. I can't recommend it enough, I'll keep coming back!

The presentation was pretty, and the staff here provided attentive service. Unfortunately, there were several fruit flies around our table, which made it difficult to fully enjoy the experience. I ended up leaving some of the food unfinished because of it, which was disappointing at this price point. I understand it's summer and these things can happen, but I expected a more polished environment from a Michelin-starred restaurant. Overall, the tea service was enjoyable, but the fruit flies took away from what could have been a memorable experience.
