The pastries and sandwiches are always so fresh, the meals are made to order, and the staff is friendly; most of the staff speaks French fluently. Many of the patrons are actually French expatriates or tourists, meaning the spot is very authentic. This is probably the location with the freshest selection as well as the most accommodating and polite staff among the multiple Moulin locations. The ambience is as close as you can get to Paris here in SoCal. My only complaint is that the system for getting in line, selecting, and ordering is extremely confusing, especially during rush hour. read more

We had their bread and pastries before when family brought it to us, but this was our first time actually dining here. They have a sit down restaurant adjacent to the bakery, but they also have counter service, offering French classics. They had a lot of covered patio seating, so we went with counter service. Food came out quickly: - French onion soup: not too salty or beefy, great on the onion flavor - Beet salad: a very generous portion with a ton of spinach packed into it, goat cheese, pine nuts, and marinated golden and red beets - Galette complete: a legit crepe with a runny egg in the middle. The buckwheat crepe texture was on point, and it was generous with the cheese and ham filling - Croque madame: generously portioned, though for me, I would do the crepe over the sandwich I love that they have lots of French grocery items, including our favorite Bordier butter (with a variety of flavors!) I did not expect to see a giant croissant as well. We got a couple of pastries which were so good. The crème puff was soft with a nice filling. We got the French onion soup with the sandwich as well. Everything was super flavorful and filling and will definitely be coming back. It was pretty hot outside and our seat didn't have an umbrella. Wow.. amazing. They are fabulous! we came in and there was no wait, everything is orderly and fresh! Full deli, sandwiches, cheeses ready to take home, full patisserie and boulangerie. Then I saw that the staff member--who was wearing a blazer, so maybe a manager--was still on the phone but helping white customers and taking their payments. It was obvious racial discrimination. This is my gem of the city. This place has a cafe, deli, bakery, and trinkets all in one and it has the bustling exciting european city feel. They do it so efficiently and food comes out quick and warm. seating is outside and beautiful on sunny days. The bakery here is one of my favorite ever in the world. The cakes/tarts are also some of the prettiest/most aesthetic looking things you'll ever eat. I could come bakc day after day and week after week to try everything. Most recently, he is being flagged for telling a customer who left a negative review on Google to try Prozac. This is not an individual who you should be giving business to. His professionalism is as disgusting as his food. Here is my experience: Moulin Newport has an environment that was crowded, loud, and messy. I was being directed which line to go to several times, as the ordering set up is not explicitly clear. I ordered over $100 worth of food. Coffee was bland, would recommend Kean. Macaroons are stale, would recommend Laduree. The quiche is one of the most vile and disgusting "food" items I ever had the misfortune of trying. I feared I would get sick. Authentic French restaurant cafe bakery all in one. All of the staff seem French with nice accents. You feel like you're in Paris. Even the music is French. The food is high quality yet I didn't care for it. The ham is organic yet very dry and removes moisture from the rest of the dish. This applies to the Benedict, the Crepe Complete, and any other dish using the ham. I also wish they had potatoes. Instead everything comes with a side salad. And the side salad is fairly plain with just a light coating of a basic vinaigrette. I also tried the L'Omelette Paysanne with bacon and cheese. It was fine. Interestingly that Omelette comes with potatoes inside, yet you can't get them on the side, not with that dish now with any other breakfast dish. The bread does not even come toasted! Honestly the food was great and I've been here around 4 times. I usually really enjoy how cute everything is but today the lady with the black hair and tattoos, I think her name was Jennifer C acted so horribly. Absolutely disgusting behavior, gave off a racist vibe to anyone who wasn't white. Talked down to you if you weren't white as well. They were busy but not busy enough to be acting like that. My girlfriend is Black and Jennifer told her to wait for the white lady to go first even though my gf was standing for a while. Even after she began to help her she continued to treat her like she's stupid and didn't speak English despite my gf growing up in California and not having an accent at all. It's really sad to see people acting like this in 2026. Moulin is great but that lady really brings the vibe down of the place. I did a search of patisseries in the area and came across Moulin. I was staying right by the airport, which made Moulin a quick 5-minute drive away from my hotel. I was pleased to find that Moulin was a full blown boulangerie, marché, and patisserie. I had a stint in Paris, so this place gave me the nostalgic feels of my time there AND I even got to practice my French since the employees were French speaking. I arrived at Moulin around 8:15am on a Wednesday morning. Place wasn't too busy, but it was lively and they were getting a steady stream of customers. I ended up checking the boulangerie section first and got a chicken and mushroom pot pastry. I also ordered a latte from this area. While waiting for my latte, I checked out the patisserie and admired the selection of petits gateaux. I saw a couple of my favorites, including Paris Brest and Mont Blanc. I got a Mont Blanc for good measure since I never see this in patisseries in the U.S. After I got all my orders, I found a cozy and quiet spot outside. The savory puff pastry was fine. Would've been nice if it was slightly warmed up. Not sure if I could request for it to be heated, but I'll inquire for next time. Have been wanting to try Moulin for awhile now since a friend recommended...but I'm not a morning person so it's hard for me to get out of bed early! Went on a weekend peak brunch time and it was super packed. Parking wasn't too hard to find, but you may need to walk a little. The seating is all outside, which the day I went would've been perfect weather to be outside with the warm sun. Their system is you order and pay for food first, they give you a number to put on your table, then bring the food directly to you. I ordered to-go and they just had me wait near the counter with a number in hand. I was a bit confused on where to order the hot foods but you can order it at either the bakery side or cold sandwich side. Both areas have the menu for you to look at upon checkout. I ended up getting the croque madam, omelet paysanne and some desserts. It was nice that both entrees come with a side of salad too. Croque madam was very nice and cooked well. Bread was soft and ham was flavorful. Omelet paysanne had ham and mushroom inside which actually tasted not how I'd expect actually. But overall it was still good; nothing too memorable for me. I may explore other omelet options next time I go! Desserts we got was this lemon tart and Millie feuille. Millie feuille was recommended by the cashier and it looked very pretty so I gave it a try. Both were pretty yummy and would work so well with coffee/tea! Lemon tart was strong in the zest and you really taste the strong lemon flavor. Millie feuille was good too, haven't had the dessert before so I'm glad I got to try it - would recommend! Overall even for a to-go experience I enjoyed it. Everything was well packaged and transported well. I didn't have to wait super long for my food either which was nice. Well - we returned over the weekend and learned a few things =) First and foremost - regards to the Croque Madame - I tried another one and found this time that while the outer crust remained very very hard, the inner bread and cheese was not - it was both softer and a bit more flavorful than before. so cutting away the crust (which being fair that level of hardness while hard to me may be something others find normal /shrug) but this experience with the Croque Madame was certainly better. The better half went instead for the Croissandwich and was very very happy. We partook of the orange juice which was also great. Absolutely delightful spot to spend a few hours - the well-shaded, heavily planted patio is perfect for people-watching. A trillion years ago, I had the most perfect sandwich off a cart at Musée Matisse - til my lunch at Moulin, I'd never seen that particular combination again! Best pastries I've had outside an actual arrondissement - the café éclair was divine and the croissant (eaten at 4:30pm that day) was still crisp and crackled the way it ought. Appears that the staff all have some degree of familiarity with French - this was the first place I could give my proper name on an order without anyone doing a double-take or asking me to spell it.
