Awesome coffee shop! Was introduced to this place by a co worker. I work at the hospital nearby and come here every so often, would come more if my parking wasn't in danger of being taken during my lunch break. Small place, not the type to hang out on your laptop or study, more of a grab and go type IMO (not necessarily a bad thing though). Very friendly owner and staff. Can text ahead for your order to be ready when you pop in. read more

Walked in and it's a disorganized hole-in-the-wall. The espresso tasted overwhelming, like a slap in the face, and it was less-than-pleasant; not burnt or bitter per se, just strange. Their creme brûlée latte was interesting, but made the cup rim unsafe for a brief period. Also, there was no food! Just snack bars and a small bit of leftover donut. Very tacky. read more

This is one of my favorite go to places in my town. Although I'm not a regular coffee drinker, I come here when I need a fix. Starbucks is so close to me but I drive across town to come to Mountain Grounds. They are that good. John the owner is such a nice person and I enjoy seeing him in there. The creme brûlée latte is amazing, and my usual drink here is a non fat sugar free vanilla latte. WAY better than starbucks version, bigger portion and better price. Great little coffee shop!! There coffee is bold and flavorful and you have the options of almond milk, soy milk, 1% milk, etc. It's a little small place and kind of hard to get into because of the location but they are so worth the hassle. Good to see a place in Martinez that isn't a franchise business. read more

I seldom go here as I like to make my own cup at home. With that said, I have never had a simply good cup of coffee, it's been an amazing pour always. It's takes a little bit of time as they make each cup, but so worth it. read more

I am SOLD! They have great Chais and like I mention in a plethora of my reviews, I am insanely chai picky. I must admit that I was a bit hesitant to come here at first because of the surrounding area, but I am extremely glad I did. What makes this place worthy of 5 stars is that they execute exceptional customer service -they trust you. When I'm here, I order, sit down with my book, have my drink handed to me and am trusted to pay when I'm ready to leave on my own time and terms. Not many places are like that considering the nature of some people these days, so it's great that they trust their customers even when it is busy. Went here a couple months ago with a friend and completely forgot to write my review: we both ordered the creme brûlée lattes which were great (as well as aesthetically pleasing). Driving down Alhambra Avenue, heading to work, it's still dark. Most storefronts have a neon "closed" sign but my eye catches the warm glow of a small coffee shop packed with people! I grabbed a delicious vanilla latter at a reasonable price and encountered 3 friendly staff members, got a frequent buyers card started and they even have a text line so you can text in your order. Try them out, I am impressed. Let's support local small businesses! read more

Really good coffee. I love going to local shops instead of chains. The espresso was delicious. Couple things though.. First they place was super small. It had a couple tables inside and a couldn't outside which was nice but since the inside was so small you were cramped between the register and a table. There wasn't any music playing which I thought was strange for a coffee shop. With it being so small there should be music r else you're pretty much hearing everything the table next to you is saying. Tr no music made the experience kind of awkward. read more

The Bay Area is full of coffee shops, there is some new "hip" place popping up it seems on a weekly basis. Great things about this place: they know their customers. In a world of pretentious douche bag coffee slingers, it's refreshing to get a cup of coffee where you are treated with respect, and everyone enjoys their job and craft. This place sources, and roasts their own beans. They offer a wide selection of just coffee and the specialty drinks are on point. The breakfast sandwich isn't half bad either. It's so incredibly difficult to find a coffee shop that isn't Starbucks open at 6am. This place has made my commute so much better when I stay out in Martinez. Please support this place! read more

Great place. Serious coffee. Knowledgeable staff. I stopped in around Christmas 2013 during a trip from Brooklyn (Legit Brooklyn. Not neo-hipster Brooklyn) and was very impressed. It's not every day you meet someone and in 5 minutes you feel like you've known him for years. I finally moved to the area a year later and when I went back the guy actually remembered me. And he's funny too. He said, "Sure I remember you. You were so wired after your 3000 mile drive I wasn't sure if I should serve you coffee. And you insisted on calling it caw-fee". I'm not a double frappa mocha mucho latte skim vanilla foam kinda person. I like my coffee coffee flavored and they have that in spades. They serve an espresso that makes your eyes bug out like the coyote from the roadrunner cartoons. If you're looking for the mass market can't spell your name right Starbucks experience there are plenty of those around. But this place isn't one of them. read more
