Ate here for the second time in two years. Onion rings were good and that's about it! Environment was nice and staff was friendly but my roast beat sand which On sourdough bread was soggy. This was a great brunch spot on a Sunday with my family!! The waitress was wonderful very friendly and they were able to immediately accommodate my family of five and baby. Lots of easy parking you walk up and it was a bit confusing if it was just take out but once you ask about dining in they found us a table with no wait. As far as I'm concerned there's only one real sandwich shop that I go to on the mountain and it's this place. Whether you order up a hot pastrami or a veggie sandwich it will leave you with that remarkable warm fuzzy feeling of just having ate somehting good. They have a good selection of unique sodas too. Okay, sure there's the Quizno's and the Subway but all you get with them are the same medocre sandwiches in the same way you get Jack in the Box or Carl's Jr. or Taco Bell. The service was polite however it was incredibly slow and one of our orders was incorrect. It seemed that we waited 20-30 minutes for our breakfast. Breakfast burritos - huge but bland. My grilled chicken ceasar salad was among the worst I've ever had; the chicken was rubbery and overcooked, and the lettuce was wilted and mushy. So I didn't mind waiting a while. My chicken fried steak arrived, with eggs over-medium and hash browns. It certainly looked perfect and mouth-watering. The eggs and hash browns were decent, except for the chicken fried steak COATING. It was so salty....I could barely eat it. The toast, however, was excellent. It was thick-sliced and seemed homemade to me. Very good wheat toast. Before we left, my kids wanted to get an old-fashioned malt "to go". So I told our waitress that we wanted two chocolate malts to go. It took FOREVER to get these malts. I'm talking like 15 minutes! And at almost $5 each, I was expecting a REALLY good malt. Instead, what we got was something of the consistency of thick chocolate milk with way too much malt powder in it. It tasted like liquid malted milk balls...not good at all. I paid the almost $50 bill including tip (yikes) for breakfast for three persons and left. I felt like I just wasted my money. read more

My eyes widened upon seeing the price, but he was craving them, so, of course, he got them. I was expecting just a bunch of fries in a small container with some chili & cheese on top. ... NOPE. It came in a GIANT styrofoam container with a mountain of fries and a heaping plop of chili cheese. That was also just sooooo goodddd and I don't like chili! Some of my favorites are the Snowbunny sandwich on rye bread. Their chili cheese fries with extra cheese and jalapeños. And any of their breakfast items. 4th of July weekend, busiest of the year, and we're trying to get some breakfast before we head back home. We call a bunch of places, over an hour wait, but Mountain Munchies says it will be 10 minutes, so we head on over. Walking in, we were totally surprised: it's totally a hole in the wall kind of place, and the images of a grand breakfast dancing around my head was starting to fade, fast. All the food was ordered, and the nervous wait began. First out was the broccoli cheddar soup. I'm usually not a fan, but this was delicious! The onslaught of tantalizing platters continued. Massive blueberry pancakes, steak and eggs, biscuits and gravy, and my own plate, the beef dip. My sammy was on some of the floppiest bread I've ever seen, making it hard to eat, but folding it over like a taco really solved that problem. Next time I'm in Big Bear, I'll try to go to one of the two major spots, if the wait is too long, I know I'll find good eats here! read more
