Sandwiches are phenomenal! Large enough to satisfy most appetites. Breakfast burrito is also a solid choice.

We were up in Big Bear today to do some work on the house and stopped here to refuel. My Chicken sandwich (bunny burger) was delicious!! And the side salad I substituted instead of fries was super tasty as well. We called in a phone order when we were leaving home and it was ready by the time we got there! After walking through their little center town and feeling like this is just way too touristy, not what I'm looking for. I settled for this little hole in the wall. Our Airbnb recommended this place so we decided to check it out! I wasn't able to take a picture of everything we got, but we ordered the patty melt, chili cheese fries, and I had the Gold Miner Sandwhich. Although it's not a popular diner, it had a good homey and welcoming feel, especially after snowboarding on a Monday night. There was no busy line or wait, and the service was prompt. The server helped us with our appetizer Chili cheese fries, and was sure to check on our table multiple times! I loved my boyfriends choice of the patty melt. It was very savory and it helped with salty cravings we were having. I enjoyed the Goldminer Sandwhich. Strawberry and blueberry pancakes were MASSIVE. I've never had such large, fluffy pancakes before. They were so thick! You definitely get a bang for your buck here! Food quality and the service is EVEN BETTER! Big Bear is so cold, but the people working here are so warm and friendly. It's a small restaurant, but it's such a good one! My husband and I ordered and shared the Big Bear Club sandwich to share since they looked huge. It included turkey, bacon, swiss, lettuce, tomatoes and mayo. Instead of sourdough we went with Squaw. There was plenty of parking in the plaza and we had phoned ahead to put in our order. The employee there thought my husband was a local and asked how his work day was going... ;) Anyway, the sandwich was big enough for us to share. The bread was good and I could taste the turkey, but overall the sandwich needed a little "oomph". I'm not sure what was missing, maybe some vinegar or mustard. When we arrived, there were four parties ahead of us, and it took about 20 minutes to get seated. Once seated, we were promptly served drinks, and our food arrived about 15 minutes after ordering. I had the Big Bear Club, while my friend tried the beef dip--it was her first time trying it, but it wasn't really to her taste. We also shared a side of fries. I honestly don't understand the glowing reviews. I'd say the food is mid-level, at best. My sandwich was fine but when I think to myself that I could make a better one at home, that's when I know it's nothing to write home about. Also, the fountain drinks were flat. For the truly negative part of my review - the menus were STICKY and it was hard to look past that but my husband said the restaurant had good reviews so I took the chance. See above for my take on my food. The dining room is tight and it was quite warm in there. Is there no air conditioning in Big Bear? Lastly, our server couldn't have cared less about us. He wanted to take our order the second we sat down - prior to us looking at the sticky menu. Then, he didn't come back. We had to let the other server know we were ready and she had to go get him. We also had to let her know we were finished so she could go get him to give us our bill. He never came to see how we were doing or if we needed anything. We saw a sign on the door that said "best sandwiches in big bear" and they weren't lying. The turkey club is bigger than my head and absolutely perfect in every way. I got sourdough but it tasted sweet like a sourdough brioche??? Turkey was perfect. The Philly cheesesteak was MASSIVE and super delish too. When I lived and worked in Big Bear from 2005 - 2009, Mountain Munchies was my go to place for lunch. Their split pea soup was amazing. Now they serve breakfast, too and it was outstanding. We had made our way up to Big Bear on a recent Friday and we were so hungry. We were looking for fish or seafood options as it was Lent and we couldnt eat meat that day. I was craving fish & chips, opened up Yelp and the name Mountain Munchies caught my eye. We called in our order from our rented cabin in the Moonridge area so it was a short drive away. We needed to buy a couple of essentials at a market and just happened to see a Stater Bros. It was perfect because Mountain Munchies turned out to be a few doors down from Stater Bros. It is a small space meant mainly for take-out. When you walk in, there is a menu on the left side, a glass door cooler fridge with drinks on the right and the counter straight ahead. Maximum capacity has to be around 10-12 inside just to give you an idea of how limited space is. Maybe the normal dining area was closed off due to Covid precautions and I just didnt see it. I went with the 3 piece fish & chips ($13.99) and there is an option for a 2 piece at $11.99. The fish and chips were good. It was exactly what I was looking for. Good batter and crunchy. It comes with beer battered fries and they use cod as per usual. It comes with lemon to squeeze, cole slaw and tartar sauce. It was a good meal, I'd get it again. Good fries. The lady got a tuna melt on sourdough ($10.99) and this comes with a tuna patty and swiss. She liked the tuna melt and I had a bite of it and it was good. Funny story, we had friends driving up to Big Bear an hour or so after us and they were also looking for food to order. They got it from Mountain Munchies and got the same exact tuna melt on sourdough. Great minds think alike, I guess. Service was quick and friendly. Staff was wearing masks. read more

Could definitely split it with two people. Fresh delicious ingredients. They don't skimp on the avocado! I got my burger with beer battered fries and they were perfectly crispy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside. Side of ranch was good! Country fried steak- 5/5: I didn't get this but my husband loved it! He cleaned his whole plate and left nothing behind. Country burger- 5/5: got this the first time I visited and wow! One of the best western burgers I've had! It was also huge but it was so good I stuffed it all down. Hot turkey sandwich- 5/5: my husbands order the first time and he was in love! I also got to try it and it was phenomenal. Turkey was so soft, the gravy was so good. Also huge portions but he scarfed it all down. We left with extremely full but happy bellies.
