Ate here based on the Yelp reviews, and I am a little at odds with the overall positive view of the place. My friends rolled in to town Friday evening and came here for beer and grub after the drive up from So Cal. The beer is fine, nothing spectacular, but they have a decent selection of house brews in a number of styles, and everything was fine. The food, on the other hand, as kind of middle of the road, and the wait time seemed... odd. The three of us ordered in sequence, so it wasn't like a 12-top interjected between our orders and friend 1 got his order first, then waited a few minutes for friend 2, then probably a full 5+ minutes for me to get my order. We all had tacos, but I made the mistake of also getting the lamb empinada (which was probably only a mistake in the wait time, it was the better than the taco in flavor). The grilled salmon taco, on the other hand, was dry and not very flavorful, and putting rice in a taco is an odd choice. Maybe we all made bad choices on the food ( of us had fish tacos, the other had the pork). My friend almost had the reuben, but when I told him it was fake meat, he passed. Mountain Rambler brews some really tasty beers and the menu isn't bad either. We visited several times over a three-day weekend and had good meals every time. There are quite a few options for the vegans among us and they were really flavorful. Shout out for the house-made sauerkraut! It's probably my favorite sauerkraut ever since the flavor of the cabbage actually comes through. Service is spotty since it's order-at-the-counter. But, overall, the best meals we had in Bishop were right here at Mountain Rambler. read more

A great addition to our small community in Bishop. We don't have a huge selection of options for going out and this is a great place for good food, drink and entertainment. We really liked coming here and the Chinese food restaurant, Imperial Gourmet, just down the street. Those are the two best places to try. We enjoyed the drinks here. They eVen had great Porters and Stouts. The fries were delicious and the dipping sauces were even better. Try the bone marrow sauce, it's amazing. read more

This is the place you need to go. One of the best Hazys I have had up here in the Sierras. I had the pepperoni pizza that's only served on weekends and it's incredible. Best Za in Bishop hands down. We stopped in Bishop on the way to Tahoe and needed a late nite bite, so we made the short walk from travelodge. This place was definitely busy when we stopped in, but we managed to get a seat at a long table for two adults and a high chair for our toddler on the end (you have to ask for the high chairs). There were no other open seats around 8:30 pm on a Saturday, inside or outside. There are a handful of board games to play, and some really interesting art pieces on the walls. Excellent burgers - the pretzel buns are so good! My husband enjoyed the Darkstar 10.0 beer and the brand of sangria they have is also delicious. This place is okay when it comes to their food. First time I went the food was so delicious and juicy. But this time was a bit of a let down :/ my burger bun was super soggy and soaked in oil and I had gotten the rambler burger that had bacon and caramelized onions. The burger was very bland and my boyfriend and I agreed that it could have used a bit more seasoning since his burger was bland as well so this place is either a hit or miss when you go. Wow!!! What a great place!! My boyfriend and I stopped in for some food and a beer on our way back to LA and boy am I glad we did!! He had a grilled cheese with fries and I had a Reuben sandwich. Both sandwiches cooked to perfection. We tried the Moon Goddess Belgian blonde and both looked at each other at the same time with a big smile on our faces... what is this?! It was simply delicious and in my opinion one of the best beers I have had. To top it all off, everyone was super friendly and accommodating! Came here by recommendation from Black Sheep Espresso Bar after trying a Mountain Rambler porter there. Got a goat cheese arugula pizza, a bratwurst with homemade sauerkraut (I could eat a vat of the apple bacon beet), and a Completo Burger (with a perfect sunnyside up egg). Well, not just me. I had my son with me too. Dragged him out. Also tried their stout here, which was nicely roasted and had lots of chocolate on the tongue. Really nice. Could not resist getting the dessert special, which was a lime-ginger custard with butter crumb topping. Yum.... Oh, and found out I could do a to go container of the apple bacon beet slaw.... Done. This place gets super packed in the evenings. This was one of the first places I've been to in Bishop and it definitely gave me a different vibe than any other restaurant because it felt like everyone in the brewery was a climber. My friends and I decided to just order the food to-go because we couldn't find a place to sit. A table did eventually open up as we waited but we took off as soon as got our food. The place has a decent size menu with a single page for food and drinks. I just got the grilled fish tacos ($11 for 2). You order at the register and they give you a number. They'll bring you your food even if you order it to-go. It's too bad I don't drink because some of their stuff on tap sounds delicious. The fish tacos were pretty good and they are huge but you are paying $11 for 2 so I guess they should be a decent size. I can't say this is a place I would like to come back to just because I don't drink and the food didn't blow me away enough to want to make a revisit. read more

Sometimes the difference between a good hangout and great one is something so simple but often overlooked: soundproofing! MRB thought of everything, including this important feature, so right there they automatically get 5 stars in my book under the category of "Being Able to Hear Your Dinnermates." What else I love? Being able to phone in an order while trying make good time from the desert to Tahoe, running in, and being back in the car within mere minutes. WHOOP! (I love making good time up 395!) Now, I don't highly recommend eating salad while driving, but everything on the menu (I do mean everything) is incredible. No, seriously, I dream of this place, even when I'm thousands of miles away. From burgers to salads to fries...EVERYTHING is awesome (and warning: the salads are HUGE). Know what else is awesome? Their down-to-earth service. Sure, they COULD be snooty Californians, ski bums in the winter and hiking dudes in the summer, but surprisingly, they're NOT. My family and I stopped here for lunch on our way to mammoth. Warm, family friendly atmosphere. Great beer. Yummy food. If your kids like sandwiches and burgers, the menu is friendly. My kids are picky and they gave the sour dough grilled cheese a few bites. I would still recommend for a great pit stop before reaching the mountain. My husband and I each ordered a beer. He got the west coast IPA and I got the Aperture (fresh hop IPA). Both were decent. Smooth. The tortilla soup was perfect for the snow storm outside. The chicken club was thoroughly enjoyed. The combo of the grilled tempeh, caramelized onions, housemate sauerkraut on sourdough rye (opt out Swiss cheese to make it vegan) with a side of seasoned sweet potato fries totally hit the spot, especially after a full day of rock climbing at Owens River George.
