Move Central quoted us $1805, fully aware it would cost significantly more. On the day of the move, the foreman showed up and dropped the bomb: he said just to be clear in 4 hours you will be paying double the hourly rate. And the kicker? The company policy doubles travel time, meaning a 2-hour trip becomes 4 hours of billed work time. So, just 4 hours into the job, we'd be paying double! I asked the foreman how much it would really cost, and he bluntly told us: at least double, maybe even triple the original estimate depending on how long it takes. When I asked why none of this was included in the original estimate, one of the crew members smirked and said, "If they told you the truth upfront, you wouldn't have hired us." That pretty much sums it up. I immediately called the office and spoke to a manager, hoping this was some kind of mistake. Nope, no mistake. The manager confirmed everything, even admitting they knew it would cost double or triple the original estimate $1805 estimate. When I asked why that wasn't disclosed, the response was infuriating: "It's in the fine print. We don't feel we need to tell you upfront." Seriously? If I could give negative star I would. I was naive to thinking we would have a good experience with this company after reading their 1 star reviews on the BBB website. We hired this company to help my family move from an apartment to a house over an hour away. We had to hire a company to help because my son is severely disabled and I have a newborn so my husband can't move the entire house. We saved money to be able to do this. The move itself was fine. The guys were nice but we realized they broke the base in our couch so the entire backing of the couches wood snapped in half so you can lean back or it'll rip through the fabric. It's a brand new couch. After we were told we are fully insured they quickly told us they only cover 0.60 centers per pound. Not price of the broken item. Our couch is 2k and they paid us $150. it's California law so it is what it is. We also zelled over the money so we can get the discounted cash price but they ended up blocking my payment and charged us the full card amount to the card on file. I've been dealing with them and their b.s since the moment they left my house 16 days ago! I was then told the only way I can now get the cash price is to go all the way to their warehouse to pay. I would do this if my son wasn't severely disabled and I have no help especially traveling hours one way. The guy literally was laughing on the phone when I told him how my son is disabled and I can't lug him around all of SoCal. That's understandable to a degree (although they did miss that estimate by 50-75%) but then on top of that, they tacked on an additional 2 hours for the time it took them to get to my place and back. These additional 2 hours were never discussed with me at all, and it was only in the fine print of the agreement under the headline of "state regulated travel time", and worded in the most ambiguous way possible. The final bill was $1000 more than the "estimate" that was given to me by the sales guy. On the date (Wednesday, December 27, 2023) of her move, it was already a stressful day but working with Move Central was more stressful. Below, you will find the complaints/issues & pictures that we are claiming: 1st complaint/issue: A very important art piece of hers was not wrapped correctly & was left exposed causing it to be damaged. 2nd complaint/issue: Movers didn't use gloves when moving her white/beige bed headboard & footboard causing them to get dirty (edges were already dirty but hand prints are shown). 3rd complaint/issue: Movers lost approximately 16 screws belonging to the bed. They confirmed that they lost the bed screws & apologized. They decided to put the bed back together using the remaining screws & skipping holes that should have been filled with screws. Had we been sent 3 movers, this would have helped with the move being completed sooner, than later. This shortage caused the move to go into overtime & double overtime fees. This isn't fair to Michelle. 6th complaint/issue: Movers damaged a wood storage furniture piece. 7th complaint/issue: Michelle felt pressured when the movers arrived at her new home in Perris because the driver stated, "I am not/can't unload the move unless I receive full payment". As a single woman, she did what asked & felt very uncomfortable after that interaction. She paid $250.00 for the deposit & she paid $3,000.00 in cash (only owed $2,877.50) at the end of the move. She left the remainder of the $3,000.00 for the drivers because he stated, "Do I have to give you money back?". As you can see, this entire move didn't go as she should have gone. O hired them to pack me out before my move the next day and their team was incompetent and inefficient. I recommend that you NEVER Ever use this Company. They are really bad and very unprofessional. I ended up paying $200 more than what I was quoted. So many hidden fees. I have never written a negative review. I waited before writing this one but I feel it's necessary to warn others not to use this company. I have used several movers both in California and out of state. The mover I used to move into this apartment was not available so I researched and called move central. I got a reduced rate and 3 movers for a one person apartment with a bed, desk,small sectional,cafe table and bookshelf. I had a limited window to use the elevator so I wanted professionals. I also wanted a morning start time so we could finish in one day They decided to take everything possible apart. A bookcase that traveled safely from Texas was completely dismantled for a 20 minute move across town. All the screws for it and other items were put together in one bag without separating them. As a result of this we lost the elevator and I had to pay them to wait. They didn't come with what they had packed they just waited. There were phone calls all day back and forth and late into the night. They never came. The dispatcher was not at all helpful and was quite experienced in extorting money. When in despair I finally said I would get another moving company to finish the job I was told they would not release my things! I was then told I needed to pay the balance due for the move IN CASH on a Sunday or they wouldn't come. It seems clear they were experienced in taking advantage of customers because a credit card company would likely have reversed the charges when it came out that the one person move 20 minutes away was now in excess of FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS. To be fair the movers who came the next day were diligent hard working and fair but it took hours to try to reassemble things with new movers and mixed parts without explanation. It gets worse. After they left we realized parts of the bed supports were missing. We made an appointment to go to pick them up but inexplicably after waiting an hour in a reception area with no one there only one support was found. Several items were broken during the move including a small ceramic figure and 2 art pieces. Other pieces of art were damaged with masking tape placed on the backing that ripped when removed. The absolute worst was when we finally unpacked and found that several designer sunglasses, a vintage gucci belt and a Prada purse were missing. Everything else in those boxes was there. I called and was told I could make a claim and spent several hours documenting purchase prices and finding photos of the items. I submitted it and the about missing was in excess of 5k.
