The Moxy was fully committed the night I checked in. I believe college was just about to or had just started for ASU. The hotel lobby was full with the bar patrons and guests hanging out but luckily I got a 4th floor room so I didn't have much noise. As a Platinum Elite, I wasn't offered the option of a Platinum welcome gift or points. At check-in I had to ask about parking and all the other amenities. I didn't get a room upgrade either. The Moxy doesn't offer bottled water in the rooms but does have water at the bar. Luckily service was much better the next morning. I was up early before work and I believe 2 managers were making their rounds. They were very helpful about menu options. I got OJ, the breakfast naan, and the s'mores naan to go. The naans was the only thing on the menu prepared behind the bar the other items were grab 'n go in the fridge section. I was very surprised the naan tasted really good and as promised by the manager the OJ was freshly squeezed. Icing on the cake I think the oranges were Valencia. Alex, the person who checked me in, was very nice and super helpful. The bartender that evening and the counter attendant early the next morning were also great and friendly and helpful. The pool was lovely, I loved the little cabanas. The room was cute and I really liked the body wash/soaps etc. The bed wasn't terribly comfortable. The person staying in the room next to us was playing music very loudly all day, often with their room door propped open. Oh and the giant screen in the lobby has terrible quality and cuts off portions of the image (like the score of the hockey game being aired). Also, someone rifled through the things in my car and stole something from my glovebox. While I must have left it unlocked (as there was no external damage), the person who I informed (and who completed our checkout) was less than helpful or empathetic. And I'm quite confused as to why the hotel doesn't have security cameras for the parking lots at the very least. There was another incident I witnessed (management publicly scolding an employee?) that certainly gave me pause. Even if the employee had done something disagreeable, to address it on the floor in front of guests wasn't the move. Given an option, it's unlikely I would stay at the Moxy again. read more

Threw our 20 year reunion here as well as stayed the night! Patty event coordinator was amazing! The night went so smoothly & was beautiful! Everyone had the best time & the venue was perfect. Food was delish! The room & stay were so nice and accommodating too. Victoria helped hand pick our room near the event on the patio & the pool. It was so nice being able to pop in and out throughout the night. Beds were so comfortable too! Overall We just loved the decor & vibe. This property has really taken a nosedive post-pandemic. Upon arrival, I had to wait 15 minutes to be checked in, because the person working the desk is also expected to be the bartender...you need more staff. Once I got checked in, I went to my room only to find someone else's suitcases and clothes all over the place. Not only is this inconvenient to have to go back to get another room, but it's also not a safe experience that anyone could walk into your room with your stuff there. Once I got my room, there were 8-10 large cockroaches and nobody cared or did anything. The picture posted was the one I was able to step on, while the others got away...good luck future guests in room 215. I am a litetime platinum member and use to love staying at this property. I will never stay here again and would advise anyone needing to stay in Tempe to look elsewhere. The ironic part after all my above mentioned experiences, I was leaving the hotel for work one morning and overheard the manager speaking during a staff meeting(meeting held in the open lobby) that they need to be working harder to make a better experience for their guests. Inexpensive yet hip hotel across the street from ASU our family enjoyed a lot. Kind of like the Target version of what the W's used to be: doesn't break the bank yet is stylish, cool, approachable, and inclusive. Highlights: - The vibe: the cool kids but fun and different. Art is very modern and playful. The check in desk is at the bar, the elevator has props and a curtain background for selfie pics, and our room had a guitar in it to play. - Lobby games: biggest hit for our family. From 2 machines with hundreds of classic arcade games--think Pac Man, Galaga, and Arkanoid--to regular games (Yahtzee, Pictionary, Jenga, etc.) plus pin ball and foosball, we were all happy. Also add in cornhole and ping ping outside. All free. Also a big screen made up of 4 tvs that was great for sports. So fun to hang out and chill downstairs. - Location: across the street from ASU and down the street from the freeway so super convenient. Midlights: - No cable tv or clock: maybe those are too old school, but I missed them. They did have wifi to connect your devices which was fun to watch other streaming services you might belong to. - Sheets: not the most comfortable. Lowlights: - Heated pool: know it was heated and usually doesn't need it much in AZ but for evenings in November, it was freezing. First off I travel almost every week for work for the past 10 years and staying at a courtyard is not fun so I have been trying many of the new Marriott offerings. This hotel from online looked really promising. The Good: The lobby is really cool. You walk into a neat space with tons of places to sit, meet people, eat, work, drink and play...pool, ping pong, arcade games and a really cool design plus a pool area. The staff is also very young, hip and nice. The bar area has some food but not much and again the service was good and done with a smile. The Bad: Once you leave the front area it is all down hill. The doors, floors, walls, rooms and everything might be nicely designed with different yet unique art work but the rooms are like dark shoe boxes and everything is done cheaply. The floors in the room are laminate and the rooms for lack of better words are cold looking, feeling and cheap. The hallways have very cheap and dirty looking carpet. I have seen industrial before and this is industrial looking but very cheap. I truly believe the photos look good but once you see the rooms and place in person you will not be impressed. Let me also add the rooms have the cheaper air units which make all kinds of weird noises and it is close to the main strip by ASU so you hear a lot of road noise in your room. I am not trying to rip this place apart because I think it is cool but you can completely tell this was a cheap hotel and they made one heck of a nice lobby but man does everything else suck. This was a definite "sleeper" experience for us. We travel extensively for work and after a long trip ended up having an extra night in the area. We chose the MOXY Tempe based on price and we're pleasantly surprised by the amazing time we had!!! To begin the relaxed check in experience perfect. And I'm so sad I didn't get the gentleman's name because he was STELLAR!!! He checked us in and was also our bartender for the evening. Drinks ( 1st round is complimentary ) were AMAZING! Overall this is a fun Marriott with comfy beds and modern decor. Nights sleep- 3 out of 5 stars Not too bad. The beds were comfortable and the room gets decently dark. The downsides are the AC clicking on and off and the road traffic. Decor/style- 4 out of 5 stars Really fun style. The rooms kinda feel heavy but overall the decor is nice/fun. The lobby decor is great. Some of the paintings of people in the rooms can be a bit much. Amenities- 4 out of 5 stars They have everything you can ask for. The gym is a little strange because the machines don't face the door and you can get surprised by people when you have headphones on. Haven't tried out the pool but seems nice. This was not my first choice in hotel, but it might be my next when I'm in Tempe. The hotel staff is very attentive, helpful, and accommodating. They offer you a free ride to the airport and a free drink upon check in. I didn't have time to check out the pool, but it did seem very nice.... Same with the gym. Rooms do not have closets, and they do not offer room service but have food served at their bar. I was told the property was newly renovated, and unfortunately the lingering smell of old cigarette smoke knocks it down a star for me, as does their loud AC. Our stay at the Moxy was pretty good aside from the fact that they don't have bath towels in the room (or well, our room). I called the front desk and they said they we would have to get them in the communal ironing room left of the elevator. It was just our luck that house keeping was gone for the night, and there were no towels to be found in any of the ironing rooms on any of the 4 floors of the building. This place was very hipster-esque and where folks who are in their late 20's-early 30's stay. The vibe was very casual like the Linq in Las Vegas. There is a big-sized Janga with an arcade, plenty of loud setting in the lobby, and nice opened doors that go to the pool where they have mini cabanas. Otherwise, our room was very clean and the bed was pretty comfy. There's no closet to put your things in but you can use the multiple chairs they have available in the rooms and hang your clothes on the peg wall. My husband and I fell in love with the Lovesac they have in the room to where we are thinking of buying one for our own home! read more

I've stayed here 4x. I stay in hotels (for work) over 100 nights per year. I REALLY want to provide a 5-star review. Here is why I can't: 1. Every room has a stank. I think it is due to the AC units. Maybe this is an AZ thing. But nearby AC Marriott has no stink. So, wtf? 2. Rooms are dirtier than most Marriott properties. Hair in sink? Yep! Crumbs on carpet? Yep! Ominous stains on sofa? Yep! Lipstick on towels? Yep! 3. Beware of room 435. It is haunted...and it stinks...and it is haunted. 4. Sometimes you won't have hot water. This is sad and annoying and lame. 5. Fitness room is a joke. A few free weights. A non-working weight machine. Disassembled punching bags. Non-working stationary bike. Nasty stained floors. Ugh! Here is what I love: 1. Amazing staff! Super attentive and fun. When I've reported issues (each stay) they have been very responsive. 2. The MOXY concept is refreshing. At most Marriott properties I want to stay in my room. At the MOXY I want to hang in the lobby. I mean, come on, free video games, jenga, pool, bicycles, records. What's not to love? 3. The rooms ain't boring. The beds are comfortable, but I've enjoyed cool add-one like giant beanbags, guitars, record players, and even fake grass. Love this departure from the routine Marriott experience. 4. The lobby is ultra-fun. Good music, good drinks, good service, and fun atmosphere 5. Not sure how MOXY hires, but these are some damn charming people. I've interacted with managers, housekeeping, maintenance, security, bar staff - everyone is handsome and charming. And I've experienced this at 2 other MOXY properties. Love this! Okay so this is an interesting and eclectic hotel with a lot of pluses but some glaring weaknesses as well. Pros: Friendly staff. Welcome cocktail. Goofy but fun lobby with all kinds of arcade and other games. Comfortable bed and good cooling system. Decent little bar. Drinks not expensive. Pretty good mojito. Cons: No iron or ironing board. Hooks to hang clothes out in plain view of the room No plastic bag for laundry. No ice box or ice machine on each floor. No place to put your underclothes unless you want to hand them on hooks in full view. No solid face soap in bathroom. Stayed here for only one night and it was a great experience. A lovely woman checked us in and was super kind and helpful. My boyfriend and I were given a voucher for two free drinks each at the bar (you are only allowed to choose from a few of their drinks) one of the options was their MOXY drink and it was amazing. The lobby are was super cute and had a few games you were able to play for free. I loved the design of the lobby area. The pool looked beautiful, but we didn't have time to swim. The room was a great size for 2 people, although there was no closet or dresser (we really didn't need it anyways) the room was amazing. The only downside it had, was after taking a shower and going down to the lobby for our drinks, we came back to our room and the entire room felt muggy and moist still. We just turned on the AC to get more air flow going thru the room to get rid of it. OVERALL: I would definitely love to come back and stay at this hotel if we are ever in the area again :) read more

Front desk /bar staff was terrible at customer service, they made you feel uncomfortabl, disrespected and unwanted. Upon our delayed arrival I call to notify them that I was coming in about 6 (10pm) hrs later than check in (4pm) and was told that it wouldn't be a problem. So when I arrived about 4 (8pm) hrs after check in I was told my room was not ready yet... So beyond being tired from 14hrs of travel, we patiently waited then we were given the rudest customer service after that. Meh - I'm going to give a truly honest review for all my fellow Yelpers because you need to know and I'm kind of annoyed. I feel like this place is putting lipstick on a pig. Granted I booked this place for a work trip during Spring break but they are extremely understaffed. The staff is very friendly however they are forced to lie to your face because they probably have no choice. I booked 4 days and left a day early because it was IMPOSSIBLE to get fresh towels or any replenishment's during our stay. It's a four story hotel and they sell to you that they have key card access to a storage room on every floor that you can utilize for extra towels, blankets, pillows etc. We tried EVERY floor for 3 days in a row and all we found was an empty room with nothing in it. (Blown away)! We called the front desk multiple times and complained and nothing ever came. We were first given a room on the 4th floor (where the gym is) and were woken up every morning from heavy treadmill running. (I'm talking penetrate your soul vibration! at 6AM) LOL - I can only imagine how it feels for the people under the gym on the 3rd floor. We finally begged on the 2nd day for another room and our wish was finally granted however the bathroom fan didn't work which creates a heavily over moisture situation in the whole room. (Gross) We ended up bouncing out a day early and are greatly enjoying our new experience at the FoundRE hotel downtown Phoenix (which is Exceptional!) Overall I'm not upset with the staff as they probably did the best they could under the circumstances. This bad review goes out to the Management/Corporate management. Get your act together! As a regular business and vacation traveler all over the U.S. and the fact this is an expensive Marriott property I'm blown away by the lackluster experience my wife and I had here. Moxy Hotel was a nice surprise! I like how hotel chains are updating towards gaining more millenials as customers. If you are looking for the typical Iron table, bigger closet with carpet type of room, this is definitely not your place. The reception area is actually inside the bar, so easy to miss. They have a Welcome cocktail for all guests, and free board games in the lobby. The hotel has communal iron rooms. The room has an open wall closet style, meaning... your clothes is literally hanging on the walls. A welcome "take out chinese looking box" full of toddies is waiting for you on your room desk! The pay attention to small details and made a pretty standard process more entertaining. There was a guitar in my room, wish I knew how to play It! I will be staying here when I am back in the area! I throughly enjoyed my recent stay at the Moxy. It is a very hip hotel that looks to aim at a younger crowd, but it was a perfect stay for business. The conference room was huge and worked well for our group. I love how they had bikes to ride around town, along with a pool table and bags for those on vacation. I even got to play some pinball in the lobby during my breaks. The room was very clean and bed comfy. I loved the giant beanbag chair and the guitar in the room as well. Only dislike was that there was no coffee maker in the room, I brought it up with the front desk and they told me I could request one on my next stay. Make sure you get your check in drink when you arrive and your free uber ride back to the airport! Also, I highly recommend heading across the street to the Vine for a meal- best grilled hot wings I've ever had. read more

I spent 3 nights at this hotel. On the final night, with my car parked in hotel parking, my car's window was smashed and items stolen. I clearly know that the hotel is not liable. However, the next morning, after having to wait while clearly being the last priority of the manager, the manager Bree immediately, and without any compassion, took a defensive standpoint rather than offering even the slightest hint of empathy. Only at the end of our discussion did she realize that perhaps being kind out of the gate would have avoided an argument. She gave me the number of the General Manager so I could speak to him. When I called that number it went to the front desk of the hotel where the same manager Bree picked up the phone. Ridiculously amateur. Seemingly lovely hotel on the surface and nice rooms. Walking into this hotel, it was very nice and the scene was unique. Though we did get good service from the 1 worker that checked us in, we did receive horrible service from a curly haired lady with a gap in between her teeth. She was out of control and didn't want to listen or pay attention to anyone. Refusing service because she was on her phone the whole time and not serving someone behind us rolling her eyes at them. On top of that there were also bed bugs and flies in our hotel room. We ended up leaving after the first night because the shower looked and smelled like it had mold in it. When confronting the lady at the office as to why my key wasn't working, she became aggressive. Worst service and worst hotel room I've ever been to. DO NOT STAY. read more

What a surprise!! There is nothing here that is the same as any other hotel/motel you have stayed in. We used to stay here when it was another brand. Now...well look at the photos in this Yelp page. Truly unique. I must admit that I asked engineering to disconnect the motion-detector night lights at the bottom of the beds...too sensitive. But i appreciate the gesture! The desk guy (the check in is at the end if the lobby-bar) is a friendly, quirky guy (hi Ian!) who found a way to exceed our expectations in concert with the manager...like, immediately. Most impressive. You sort of have to be in the mood for the differences you will experience, compared to standard hotels. I was! It's a different experience and I enjoyed it. At first I was really enjoying this hotel but then the flaws started to show. The staff was awesome, super friendly and very welcoming. You check in actually at the bar in the lobby. The lobby and patio are setup to make this hotel very social which is awesome so you don't spend time in your room. Here's where the fun wore off.... the hotel was not new construction, it was a remodel and the walls are paper thin. Having a room on the 3rd floor even at the back of the hotel I was constantly reminded of every car driving by. Secondly I know for a fact the laundry room is above my room because the washing machine runs all night long! Some things are missing from a room in the desert that are kind of essential. There is no ice bucket, nor and ice machine of any kind. You can get a bag of ice from the lobby bar downstairs if you need some. There is no fridge ether so your days of bringing a beverage to your room will be warm. read more

Check-in was at the bar and comes with a complimentary cocktail....Moxy. It is very refreshing. The lobby is filled with games that allow you to connect with others. Jenga, pool table, connect four and free arcade games. The rooms are modern/European styled. The bed was comfortable. The was a guitar in the room...of course I tried it out! Currently staying at whatever they call this place, and after a 45 minute check-in, I received not two, but four noise complaints for walking around... in my socks. While the first two I could somewhat empathize to given the late hour of the night, the following two happened around 1pm while I was taking a shower. The walls are extremely thin, and you're lying to yourself if you think there is a) a closet, b) a dresser, c) soap Apparently their priorities are set in things like a guitar mounted to the wall and an old fashioned telephone, and I can guarantee that this is my last stay here. read more

Walking into this hotel, I was hoping that it would be beautiful. The cleaniness of the hotel was not up to par as there was still blood on the sheets and the pool was very dirty. On top of that, the night shift lady with curly hair had horrible customer service as she refused service because she was annoyed and gave every customer an attitude. I asked for my room key to be fixed and she refused and continued to give me attitude. This hotel was very unprofessional considering the actions of the employee and how dirty the hotel was. There were also college kids partying at 6 am and it kept waking my baby up. Come here if you don't want sleep and horrible service. read more

The Moxy rocks! It is definitely designed for a young crowd but this 60+ lives it, too. Clean, crisp design. Comfortable rooms (with no wall to wall carpeting to get grungy) and great beds and linen.
