This review is after ordering take out two separate occasions. This area of Oakland County just doesn't have many Chinese food places so I wanted to give this one a try. The first time I ordered pork egg foo young, Szechaun chicken lo mein and egg rolls. Both entrees were tasty and prepared to our liking. I can tell if a Chinese restaurant is decent when their egg foo young is on point. Moy's EFY had roasted pork and not soaked in excessive gravy. The Lo Mein had just enough spice and tender morsels of chicken and fresh noodles. The egg roll wasn't the best I've had but wasn't bad. I'm planning on trying a few other entrees to determine if this Chinese take-out can measure up. This particular area desperately needs more quality Asian / Chinese restaurants. read more

Past reviews run hot and cold, but my other favorites in the area were closed, so I decided to try Moy Kong. Glad I did! They are really giving customers the full Chinese experience - like a Shanghai lockdown. Masks are still worn, box lid are used to collect items (credit card, cash) and then to throw things back at you. But hey, it's their place. Whatever. The owner/wife was very helpful when I had questions about differences between some of the dishes, which vegetables come with, etc. Food was ready in about 10 min and was very hot (duh - straight from the wok) and very fresh! Had the Szechuan Chicken dinner combo since she said it was made with white meat. And it was - big pieces too, not the thinly sliced weird "white meat?" chicken that is often seen at Chinese restaurants. Nice assortment of fresh veggies, good chicken fried rice (so many places that include poor dry fried rice with their combos), and a bean sprout-based egg roll! My favorite style. If they do have good days and bad days of service and food, I certainly caught them on a great day. Thanks Moy Kong! I'll be back. I've been going to Moy Kong exclusively for the last year or so since moving to that area of Auburn Hills. It has gotten better every time I have ordered take-out there, and it never was bad. The last time I went, last week, the sesame chicken was soooo good! Flavorful and crispy. My wife had a bite and loved it as well. Don't be turned off by the seemingly outdated and dirty store front. Can't believe I'm starting off the new Yelp year with a 1 star!* Yes it's true...sadly a tired, lazy, slightly hung over group, not wanting to drive in the two inches of snow that was falling on us, decided to wait the hour to get this most undesirable food delivered to us.... Sub par chinese, that lacked serious flavor. Even bad chinese can be somewhat good, but not this place. Chicken nuggets with different sauces was one of the descriptions from our group. Gray eggrolls was another...ummm..lemme see...I guess the low mein was good...I had the General Tso...it was tso not good! The egg drop soup didn't even taste like egg drop. Big fat bummer!* The goods I guess, were the prices...for 6 dinners with a soup and delivery it was roughly 50... And they delivered...haha... I wouldn't ever go back here. read more

Doesn't look like much from the road and it isn't, other than filthy dirty and smelling of old fryer oil. The welcome mat was so flattened down it didn't even look like a mat and when I left, my hair and clothes smelled like old fryer grease and old food. There were dustballs on everything: the ceiling panels, the things hanging on the wall, everything, and it was nasty. I didn't notice at first because I was hungry and ordered right when I walked in as there was no line (could have been a clue to run, but I didn't). Almond boneless chicken lunch combo was my choice. The egg roll wasn't bad, the chicken fried rice had no flavor, but the chicken itself was disgusting. It was clear that this had been fried for the second time. There was clearly a second coating of batter under the first and most of the time, neither of the layers of old and new batter didn't stick to the chicken. Some pieces had no batter on them at all and it was clear they'd just been thrown in the deep fryer for a minute and then tried to pass off as good, when what I got was nasty, greasy, poorly prepared chicken. The kitchen is dark and a customer can't see any of it, which bothers me. This meal was as nasty as the interior of the place. I would recommend anyone thinking of going here to keep driving to Bangkok Express at the intersection of Squirrel and Walton. The food is outstanding and a LOT better than it is here. I could give a one star and it would be right. A few co-workers and I were in the mood for Chinese food for lunch. We placed a carry out order and went to pick it up. I ordered almond chicken. It was TERRIBLE the worst I have ever had. The chicken was grey! The sauce was awful. I was so disappointed because I was craving it so badly for lunch. I was starving and only had a few bites to eat before I threw it all away. My co-workers all said their food was absolutely terrible! I had a meeting so I couldn't run out and get something else for lunch, so I had to walk to our vending machine and eat my lunch from that. I will never order from here again. Worst service ever. Owner came through door eating and then proceeded to talk to me a full mouth of food. Disgusting. Then the phone rings and she holds up her finger to me, like wait a minute. The phone is obviously more important than a human person in front of her. She proceeds to take a full order while I stand there trying not to look at her chomping food and taking an order. Then back to me with a look of com'n order already. Then I ask for a side of the sweet and sour sauce (like on the chicken - I like it on my rice) and there is normally a small extra fee .75 or 1.00, she looks at me then scribbles down $2.00. Rice, soup and egg rolls = $18. I said no way. Told her I wasn't hungry any more and left. She stood there with a silly shocked look on her face and yelled, "What happened?" I am a person that never writes reviews, but after my experience last night I just had to write about it. I called in my order for 2 shrimp egg foo yong combination dinners. When I got there only one dinner was ready. When I asked for the other dinner she told me I only ordered one, but encouraged me to wait while they prepared the second one. A shrimp egg foo yong dinner is supposed to have 2 patties with fried rice and an egg roll. When I got home I realized my dinner had 2 chicken egg foo yong patties with the rice and egg roll. My mother's dinner had 1 shrimp patty and 1 chicken patty. When I called to to let them know my order was wrong she wouldn't let me explain what the problem was and just kept saying I ordered it that way. The bottom line: The lady that takes orders and works at the front counter is rude, the food isn't really that great, and we will not be going back. read more

Fairly typical Chinese takeout. Nothing really special. One thing to note is that they're strictly take out, you can't eat inside. I've tried a number of their lunch combos. If you have no idea what to pick, go with Mongolian beef or General Tso's chicken. I'm fairly sure that most of the food is precooked and they mix in the sauce after an order is placed. The vegetables are mushy, and the meat is dry (I can feel the compulsion to floss coming on as I think about it). Alright for a quick bite, but you're much better off going to Asian Express near the Walmart in Rochester Hills. The food is fresh and pretty good for Chinese takeout. read more

Disgusting! If I could give ZERO STARS, I would. We just moved to the area in July, and we decided to try to find a good Chinese place. Since this one is just a mile from us, we decided to give them a try. I want to preface the following comments by saying we are NOT food snobs. We have eaten gas station burritos and hot dogs in our time, and we like all manner of junk food and bar food. We have very flexible palates, and we enjoy cuisines from all over the world. With that being said, we also enjoy fine dining, but occasionally, we crave stuff that's not-so-good for us. The first time we ordered (a month ago) from Moy Kong, we were shocked at the poor quality of the food. We ordered ABC, Shrimp Fried Rice, General Tao's Chicken, Egg Rolls and Crab Rangoon. Everything looked terrible, especially the ABC. The color was a pale yellow, and the breading was dry but greasy. I don't know how that's even possible, but that's what it was. The gravy was putrid. Everything tasted AWFUL, as if they used old oil. It all tasted old. Even the red/BBQ sauce on the General Tao's couldn't mask the old oil flavor of the chicken. The one thing they make that we like: White Rice. That's it. Knowing that sometimes you just get a bad night at a place, and figuring everyone deserves a second chance, we decided to give them another try yesterday. This visit was so much worse. My stomach is still sick today. As soon as my husband walked in the door with the food, I could smell the old grease. When we opened everything up, we were shocked to find the ABC looked greyish-yellow. The Shrimp Fried Rice was burned! I mean it was totally blackened. The onions in it were charred too. And the oil smell was awful. We should have taken it back and demanded a refund, but we were starving, so we covered everything in soy sauce and choked it down. Even their egg rolls tasted old and bitter. And every single thing is coated in the foul-smelling grease! Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place. I'm pretty sure they don't change their oil EVER. While that saves them money, it's going to kill their sales in the long run, because people are not going to tolerate such poor quality. I ordered food here during finals week along with my other friends and it all tasted like toothpaste. I brushed my teeth before I ate but the meal had a strong minty taste and also kind of tasted like cream of chicken soup. My friends said their food was good so I guess thats a plus but don't order the chicken lo mein it has no peas and is too thick. I really wanted peas. It took almost exactly an hour to come but thats what they said so that was good but they also didnt believe our address was real but i guess that is okay you win some you lose some. Delivery driver was a trickster. 6/10 update: I just ate my eggroll. The bag it was in looked like rice paper so I figured I could eat it like how you can eat some gum wrappers but you cannot. I can only give this place 1 star. The food is mediocre at best. My wife had the beef chop suey, I had sweet sour chicken. The chop suey tasted like it had been sitting out all day. The beef was tough and tasteless. The chicken I had was tough and over fried. Their sweet sour sauce is bland and just plain not good. The main reason for the 1 star rating is for the appearance of the lobby. it obviously has not been cleaned in a very long time and the floor is disgusting. As far as American Chinese restaurants go, this place isn't bad. If you order more than $15 worth of food, they'll deliver. I had the Shrimp Egg Foo Young lunch combo and found it pretty good. My family and I got food from here and my husband found a metal scrubby piece in his chicken and broccoli, my daughter had chicken curry, which had looked like they dropped the chicken all on the floor picked it up and started cooking it again! This place has a serious health issue that people should be complaining to the health department for. Before I get started on that, yes, the food is ok and reasonably priced. The entire front area of the restaurant ( the only part accessible to customers) is basically covered with a thick layer or grime and dust. The windows are all cloudy, the floor is cracking a peeling up. In fact, don't wear open toe shoes in there or you run the risk of catching a corner of a peeled tile. Both businesses on either side of this place are spotless. Then there's the grimy place in the middle. People- stop referring to the inside of this place as having bad decor. It's not decor. One of the better joints in the area. I order take out and delivery pretty evenly. Food arrives exactly when they say it should, piping hot even with delivery! My go to order usually includes some combination of beef egg foo young, shrimp fried rice, egg rolls with the the sweet and sour sauce,won ton soup with crispy noodles... We get carry out from here quite a bit and theu drive all the way to the N. E. sode of waterford for only $5!! With a newborn, so worth it! The food is always delicious, shrimp rolls and Lo mien are highly recommended. Pretty basic Chinese. My roommate and I enjoy this place. I especially love the cashew chicken and she likes the sesame chicken. Eggrolls and springrolls were subpar. This place gets four stars because of the price! Even for Chinese it's pretty cheap. I don't think these reviews accurately represent their clientele.
