I found this place and it gives you really good old school Chinese. My entry to a Chinese restaurant is always almond chicken with the gravy on the side and beef fried rice. They flat out nailed it. The rice was dark the way I like it. It could have more flavor, but it's still pretty good. The almond chicken is also really really great. I did try a couple other dishes that I like such as chicken and broccoli and I think I just specifically like the garlic sauce to not be sweet. So maybe there are some other dishes I'll try like steak à la steak. Generally, speaking, though, they have really really good food. If you are a fan of a restaurant like China Jade in Pontiac, this will definitely be a suitable alternative. read more

This place uses large chicken tenders for their General TSO's chicken. It seems to be pre breaded chicken that's not cooked fresh. Usually this place has good food however if I order a Chinese dish that's what I expect. I would not recommend the General TSO's chicken. read more

We ordered the crab rangoon and egg rolls for appetizers. The crab rangoon was good, but the egg rolls were dry and not good. I ordered the chicken fried rice. The serving size was ridiculously large. It was served on an oval plate about 10" x 4", and piled about 3" high. I tried to use the salt Shaker, but the salt was a solid rock. The chicken fried rice did not taste good. I ate a little bit of it and told the waitress to just throw the rest out. Service was adequate. Food was not her fault. We eat at China Village occasionally because it is the closest Chinese restaurant to where we live and, at least in my experience, their food is decent and normally less salty than many other Chinese restaurants in this area. Service likewise is decent and I was a bit surprised seeing as some reviewers have said their experience was not so good. But I haven't actually experienced poor service whenever I have eaten there. I have some Chinese restaurants that I like better and some worse, but if I'm looking for Chinese food with a shorter drive or for take out, China Village is a good choice in my opinion. As for authenticity, since I'm not Chinese and have not spent any appreciable time in China, I really can't say. Like most I would say they generally serve food tailored for a more American taste. My family and I have been coming here for a few years. The service is good and food is good to very good. The General Tso's sauce is usually tangy with a hint of hot pepper. The chicken is reast meat which is usually juicy here. The risk of using breast meat is that it's easy to dry out which has happened on rare occasions. The delicious economical meal is the Egg foo young. Even with the two patty meal you get more than enough for one person. The tree patty meal is enough for two easily. A pretty good place overall. I wasn't expecting much from this place judging by the name and location, but the interior was surprisingly half decent and the service was pretty good too. The menu has a good variety of things to choose from, all at reasonable prices. The food was prepared once it was ordered unlike some other chinese restaurants which have the food pre-made and just sitting there waiting to be purchased. I've come to China Village several times. It's a bit of a drive from where I live, but nonetheless I come here to enjoy some delectable Chinese food. The interior design is very nice and pleasant to see. The service is very quick and the waitstaff are friendly. The cashier is also very kind. Some recommendations I would make are to add outdoor seating and make the exterior as pretty as the interior. Personally, I enjoy sitting outdoors more than indoors because of how chilly most restaurants are. Also, making the outside more attractive would bring in more customers. Restaurants with a nice exterior make me more interested. Perhaps some nice flowers and mil h would help. Overall, very good. read more

Very poor service. We came here to order and we couldn't decide our food . The representative at the counter was very rude when asking for the menu slamming it down and not making us feel welcome . When we ordered she made us feel stupid saying" do you know the difference between chow mein and chop suey" extremely rude and so many other ways to appropriately address that. We gave this place a 2nd chance because it's the closest Chinese location to our home but we will be going else where to avoid this place. We have been going to China Village for years! They are mostly a carry-out business, so there are not usually many people dining in. It is pretty standard american-chinese food. We always get the sweet and sour chicken. The food is always hot and fresh, nice service when we pick up our items, and the chicken is not all dried out like a lot of other similar chinese restaurants in the area. I just moved about 15 miles away from China Village and I still come back because I have not found anything in my area that quite compares! read more

It was a day like so many others. But the difference was that I was free to have lunch by myself and try some place new. What to have?, I thought. So I got in my car and looked at the GPS display. I decided to leave it to chance. I punched in restaurants and then selected Chinese as the category. I looked and the first one that came up on the display was only 0.4 miles away. So I proceeded to the destination not knowing what to expect. Normally I would check the place on Yelp. But today, I decided to just take a chance. China Village was the choice of my GPS. Maybe I should have known better. I waled in the door and checked the surroundings. Observation # 1: The place is almost empty. Not a good sign. Observation # 2: All the tables had singles. No couples or groups. Also discouraging. Observation # 3: Not a Chinese person in sight except for the wait staff. Uh-oh. Then I was brought a menu. Oh no, Tourist crap. What they call Gwei Lo Yuck in Hong Kong. This translates to Foreigner's Meat. These are dishes created by and for non-Chinese to suit western tastes. Things like Sweet and Sour Pork are classic Gwei Lo Yuck. So I decided to try to find something edible. I ordered a combination plate and traded off between Szechwan Beef and Hunan Beef. I am not sure what the difference is, so I tossed a mental coin. Hunan Beef it was. The only other choice was what kind of soup I wanted. The waitress offered; "Won-ton or egg drop?" So I went with the Won-ton. "What to drink?", she said. Just tea, I said and out came the Lipton. First she brought our the soup. It had decent chicken broth once I added some salt and pepper. The Won-ton was made of a chewy noodle, unfilled and once folded. No vegetables, no meat and the only thing that saved it was the nicely greasy hard noodles. Then out came a thin dry warm egg roll. I asked for La Yu which translates to hot oil. There was some sickening sweet sauce on the table, but I decided to disguise the egg roll by dunking it in the chili oil and although it caused over-burn, it made the generic egg roll edible. Then out came the Hunan Beef. I suspect that if I had ordered the Szechwan Beef, it might have looked exactly the same. This was generic vegetables stir fried with thin slices of marinated beef coated in corn starch. So I added gobs of La Yu and ate it. It served as fuel anyway. Now the fried rice they served; chicken fried rice at that, wasn't bad at all. In fact, it was the best part of the meal. I noticed the waitress watching me as I maneuvered through the meal. "You know how to use chopsticks", she said. "It would be easier with a rice bowl, huh?" I conceded that a rice bowl would have been better. "You been China? Hong Kong?" she asked. Yes, I said. Then she threw out a few words in Cantonese. Now it is unusual for a Gwei Lo to know any Cantonese. But I have spent too much time in Hong Kong, Guang Zao and other southern Chinese cities and I have made a whole lot of trips to Hong Kong. So I answered her in Cantonese. I scored points. She said "You speak Mandarin too?" Very little I admitted. She said "Me too, I am from Hong Kong." I asked her if she was from the Hong Kong side or the Kowloon side. She said "Kowloon." Near Tsim Sha Tsui or NT?, I asked. She said near NT. And so it went. I Had a pretty lousy meal, but I did get to practice a little Cantonese. I got the bill, paid and got up to leave. Mm Goi I said as I left. That was a thank you for service in Cantonese. She responded with a polite Do Che. I hit the parking lot and went back to the office. read more
