This is my favorite fried chicken in a state full of chicken fast food restaurants. Biggest chicken fingers, fun sauces with rotating flavors, and clean restaurants with good service. Huge portions. The lines at the original location get very long at lunch time because it's so popular so be prepared to wait, but they do a good job getting everyone through. I love the new Draper location which has more space and a drive-thru. The sides are all solid - Texas toast, fries, coleslaw. Don't mess with the other chicken places. Easy location with a drive-thru that just opened. Service is quick. I know they are all about chicken. The chicken was great, juicy, meaty, not too much or too little dredging, not greasy. No wonky bits of chicken other reviewers mentioned. Just really good fried chicken. Fries were good, too. Love that you can choose two sauces. I could do without the Charley sauce (I actually wanted the sauce of the month, but I'll take the blame since I asked for house sauce of the month and was given the house sauce). The only downside of the order was the slaw. I know some people would just ignore the slaw. I love slaw. I need slaw in order to feel like I ate some kind of vegetable to go with all of the not-good-for-you fried chicken and fries. The slaw was less than lack luster. I'm not sure if it's a commercial sauce mixed with cabbage. I didn't eat beyond one forkful. Charlie, come on. Make your own dressing and be proud of your slaw as much as your chicken. DISCLAIMER, I am writing this review based on a single menu item, however, I'd argue that it offers a little of everything. Loaded Nashville Fries.... Mmmm. If you grew up in the 90's, youve experienced carne asada fries, welp, I tell everyone this is another version but BETTER. Especially at Charlie's. It's a bed of crunchy cheese fries, fresh coleslaw, pickle slices, Nashville dipped tenders, and finally, Charlie's **magical** sauce!! (I don't know what's in it, and I don't wanna ask!!) And now the reason it's really good is that EVERY-TIME, without fail, theres perfect ratios of all ingredients. I often find that there's not more of something you like and too much of something you don't... not here. It's like they put everything in a bowl to mix it around. We couldn't tell if they had a dining room because the blinds were down 2/3 (about knee height) at 7pm in December when it's been dark outside for at least an hour (wintertime) until we drove past the drive-thru line and could see a few shoes. The menu is straight forward... grilled or fried chicken tenders, crinkle-cut fries, coleslaw, Texas toast, and fountain drinks with prices for 1 tenders up to 100. We had to wait a little longer for our food to come out because they were prepping a large order that they weren't expecting in advance. The manager came out to let us know it may take a little longer for ours because of that. The chicken in both grilled and fried forms was good; juicy, decent sizes, with a nice brined flavor. They don't need a sauce, but their house made version of fry sauce is really good. It has a bit of tangy seasoning added to it compared to the standard mayo and ketchup blend. Crinkle-cut fries are a way better option than shoestring ala Smashburger or weirdly made Burger King style. They're creamy and have organic ketchup for dipping. Coleslaw isn't a favorite of mine, so take this part lightly.,, there's a lot more liquid than I like and it has more sugar flavor than crunchy cabbage. The service was nice, ambiance drab, chicken good, and it's probably the way southern chicken places are done. But there are plenty of other places to get more than good chicken like Chubby's (grilled or fried with more excellent sauces for dipping), The Crack Shack (on the bone but better chicken flavor), Popeye's (yeah, it's fast food but they are consistently good and, again, with more variety of sauces), and the ever popular Chick-Fil-A (the seasonal peppermint shake - add cookie crumbles, trust me - is worth the calories). Side note if you're a water drinker: I don't recommend the free water. They say it goes through a filter, but it tasted horrible and undrinkable to us. read more

I was really excited to try this place, but was a little disappointed. It was fine, but I wouldn't be excited to go again. First, the place was not super clean. The tables were fine but the floor was pretty dirty. Their chicken was a little too greasy for my liking, but my husband didn't have a problem with it. Flavor is excellent. Service is good. The bread that my sandwich was made from was terrible. It was very tough and rubbery as though it had been microwaved. It is always this way here at the Draper location but today it was really bad. There were even hard sections as though the bread had been in the microwave for way too long. This is it. The absolute fast chicken champion of the area. Forget all those other fast chicken places that keep coming, they all have huge lines and aren't really that great. This place has no lines, Best of Utah awards, and really great food. I went with The Plate, though a Po' Boy looked really good, and the Charlie Sauce and Buffalo sauce. The chicken was great. Juicy, crispy, just all around really good. It's never frozen, a bunch of "-free" things, and just really good. The fries were also pretty good and the sauces were great. Fries, coleslaw and Texas Toast are the sides. We got all fried: tenders, boneless wings and a Nashville Po'Boy Sandwich. Depending on what your get you get your choice of 1-2 sauces. There are a number to choose from and a Sauce of the month... which we liked most called cilantro lime. If you want extra sauce its extra. But Ketchup and Fry sauce is free. Despite the crowds, the food was promptly taken to our table. The chicken tasted juicy and fresh. Fries were crinkle cut and nice and crisp. Cole slaw also seemed fresh: i only like slaw when its still crunchy and not soggy. We are visitors from out of state, and after a long day of snowboarding, we wanted to order some comfort food and decided to try Mr Charlies since it looked like a local business. We ordered the 25 pieces family platter to share and it was delicious! The tenders were definitely better than Raisin Cane, the fries were crispy and the tenders were juicy. It's nice to have some chicken that isn't overly oily or the skin/breading peeling off leaving the chicken barren. Here, the chicken fingers actually tear apart nicely. The sauces are nice and simple (Charlie's sauce is what fry sauce in general OUGHT to be). The fries stay crispy, and the toast is nice for making a sandwich if you feel like it during the course of stuffing yourself. My new favorite among my favorite chicken places. read more

Then the honey mustard, Charlie sauce and last second asked for the Nashville honey sauce that's one a po'boy. The Nashville sauce was definitely my favorite. The honey mustard seemed mild or that it has mayo in it. The Charlie sauce was decent, it was like a fry sauce with pepper and some vinegar. I liked everything on the plate. The chicken was juicy with the breading staying crispy. The crinkle cut fries were good. The slaw was slaw, the toast was the right texture. Crisp on one side, but still soft bread. I asked the associate at the counter what his favorite thing is and he recommended the wrap which I was kind of surprised about. So I went with his suggestion and got the classic wrap. Honestly the best chicken in Utah county. There are so many different chicken spots and each place has their own signature. MR Charlie's really stands out. The meals are quite large! Plus the chicken was tender and juicy. However, the fries were lame-o most likely premade and frozen. Just the right amount of sweet and spicy. Definitely get a side of ranch with it. 4 chicken fingers is probably enough food for an adult they're juicy and the sauces are good.
