Waking up with a clogged sewage drain at home is no fun at all... First, I called the city... after all, I pay fees every month for sewer usage. I might as well! Two men with sarcastic smiles arrived only 10 minutes later, and ckecked the "area of city responsibility"- "everything looks fine sir, on our side- you will have to tackle this with a plumber on your own... you need to do it very soon, before you get sanctioned by the health department... and let me tell ya, plumbing ain't cheap", said one of the men who appeared to be the boss, as he was entering back into the service van. The other one nodded a few times absent-mindedly, poetically, showing approval and full devotion to his boss. I called our local Mr. Rooter Plumbing in Lakewood; a polite lady picked up the call, and promised to arrange a plumber visit as soon as possible... so far so good. Two gentlemen showed up driving a huge van proudly displaying Mr. Rooter's smiley face. They tried some routine procedures to clear my drain. I wasn't there- I work full time for Samsung Design- but my mother who happened to be in town helped me to supervise the work. These guys were clearly professionals who seem to know what they are doing. Until here, my experience was 5 stars. However, when the final diagnose of what's wrong with my sewer was ready, I quickly removed 3 stars from my initial rating- the repair prices proposed by the Mr. Rooter team were... exporbitant!!! For example, they always charge a "set-up fee" of $1500 for most repairs. And they don't explain in detail what that set-up fee is. Also, for the special type of epoxy lining that was necessary to do, stregthening the inside of my house's old broken sewer pipes (damaged by years of earthquakes and lots of roots), they charge $85 per foot. Which for 100 feet is how much? $8500! According to the plumbers, this is a brand new technology. Using an ipoxy gun of some sort, they inject hot epoxy at high speed into the old tubes, which creates a sort of undestructible "tube within the tube" that reinforces, clears, and is not vulnerable to tree roots for many years to come. But... that expensive? Come on!!! Yep, unbelievable. When they calculated costs of labor, and a few other "miscelaneous" charges of about $200 each (which they again did not clearly explain to me), the grand total came up to $12,000.00. Argh. I told the manager, whose name is Brian, that $12,000 is out of my league. Even if I own a home, it should not mean that I have such money available in liquid form... I don't know what it looks like on the side, but my budget is very tight. So they offered to give me 'special discount' of 15% if I sign up for their 5 years coverage plan ($370). I agreed- and this brought down the price to a grand total of $10,000.00... Cash. Again, I guess I shouldn't be complaining- indeed my house is pretty old (built in 1919)... I was expecting something would eventually happen. Sooner or later. But that much money for a single contracting job? My house is eating away chunks of its own equity? Luckily, I'm able to pay today. So I can have a toilet. But what about all the other people around?? Other than perhaps certain millionaires, who can possibly afford such expensive plumbing repairs? So what do those people do when their toilets are backed up? And how do the Mr. Rooter of Long Beach guys survive? As I don't have prior experience with such problems so I can't really tell- I will let you be the judge. Please feel free to send me a message with comments about this, and share with me your experience- I would appreciate it. Only because I am not happy about the repair costs- and not fully convinced how honest this final balance was- I decided to give a low rating. You have the right to be warned. Otherwise, for 3 business days, the guys did a good (clean) job: they carefully removed concrete in my garden, unearthed small portion of the tube, injected the epoxy, covered back the hole with earth and replaced the concrete blocks in a decent (while not perfect) way. My garden did not become unusable. For this reason, instead of 1 star, I give Mr. Rooter 2 stars- I commend the young employees who actually did the "dirty" and quite difficult job (and I doubt they get even a small chunk of that $10,000- most of it probably goes to the owner). read more

Brian and team did a great job in replacing an old drain line under my house. They reduced the bends, making the line as straight as possible and even added a cleanout in case the new line ever gets clogged up. I'll definitely use Mr. Rooter again! read more

Mr. Rooter came out for a plumbing problem @ our laundromat. The guy took an hour looking for the MAIN and could not find the main. Believe it or not he called a supervisor to come help. Between the plumber and his supervison neither could find a main. The prepared an estimate where these guys recommended that the toilet be removed and a main put in above it - Estimate from Mr. Rooter $2500. I called a second plumber out the same night. The plumber arrived it took him 15 minutes to find the main. This plumber explained it would take (2) men to do the job as one had to feed the snake into the main. After Hours (2) with (2) Men Cost = $260 and done within (2) Hours. Quite a "BIG" difference in cost. How they evaluated this is beyond my comprehension. I am sure they were looking more for a percentage of cost. read more

We had a problem with a stopped up sink. We had worked with Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Long Beach before and had good results. I called yesterday morning, explained the problem and was told they would arrive at our house between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. and that the office would call when the service technician was on his way. At 3:45 p.m., we got a call from Rooter plumbing that the technician was on his way and he arrived at our house at 4:00 p.m. The technician was Brian, who we had worked with in the past and was happy with. Brian checked the problem, told us what he was going to do and the price he would charge. The job was completed in 20 minutes to our satisfaction. Unlike some plumbing companies, where you are on hold for some time, we got through to the scheduler within one minute and the work has always been completed the day we called. I will continue to call Mr. Rooter Plumbing of long Beach. I would give this business five stars. read more

I am an idiot who paid Mr. Rooter way too much money in hopes that they could help prevent future plumbing problems at a rental. Instead, I now have new problems and have been told I need a new toilet because the "jets" aren't working in this one. The water drains out of the toilet when not in use; then when flushed it almost overflows, something that did not happen prior to the work they did. Andy and Gary came out and used a plunger on the toilet and came up with the diagnosis that a new toilet was needed. REALLY? I have used this company on several occasions, for small jobs, but would NOT recommend them for big jobs. Get a real plumber. *****I was just getting ready to post this when Greg, the General Manager of Mr. Rooter called and offered to put in a new toilet at no cost to me. This was not because he felt they had done anything wrong, it was because I had already spent so much money with their company and he wanted a satisfied customer, which he now has. Thank you, Greg. Then he took a lot of time to run a camera down the line and mark out where the line ran and where potential issues were. He patiently explained what we we seeing on the camera. The quote was more than $7,000 to do a repipe, which wasn't needed to fix low water pressure. The aerators were clogged in the kitchen and bathroom but they were not even checked by the guy who came out. He just saw older pipes and said "repipe." Pete's Plumbing got everything flowing for $85. That's sad enough. What's worse is that I was a repeat customer having used them a handful of times previously. Not exactly how a regular customer should be treated. No more Mr. Rooter (Mr. Rip-off Guy). read more

I'm a little confused as to how this company is run, but I made a call in to report a gas leak. The dispatcher told me that they would send out a technician to diagnose the issue then determine what repairs need to be made. When the technician came, he did NOT diagnose the issue.. He simply gave me an estimate costing $583.32 to diagnose the issue!!! So now tell me, what's the point of sending out a technician and wasting your company resources when he didn't diagnose the issue in the first place? Update.. Greg called and apologized and worked with me on the issue. I ended up going with another company, but at least he tried to rectify the mistake his team members made. read more

Andy came and did the initial call. Snaked the main and discovered some more problems. Upsold me on a water pressure clean and this is where the problems started.... and I thought Andy was very professional. when Greg the manager shows up. Started the pressure clean and then says, "I can do it because of a partial collapse of your pipe... but you still need to pay for me time... Huh? He does not even come close to completing the job (he did not do any of the high pressure water clean at all) and expects me to pay for his time? At the end of the day, I still agreed to pay more than what the original quote was and this left a dirty taste in my mouth. Bait and switch? I pay for results, not for effort. The main was snaked all the way to the sewer, and so it wasn't my issue when the pressure machine couldn't make it through... and I still need to pay for Greg's effort? Please. Problem is... this is Greg's business and if he wants to run it this way, watch out. Everybody be cautious to the bait and switch and its even worse when I was switched to nothing. This was a very disappointing experience. There are many options out there -this should not be your first option. Follow on amendment to the initial report. After receiving an estimate to do some work, I solicited bids from other plumbers to do the same. Other plumbers were far more professional and even did the assessment for free, which Mr. Rooter charged me $125 to do. The real kicker is Rooters quotation for the job was DOUBLE what the other plumbers quoted! Stay away!! read more

I have used Mr Rooter Plumbing for several small jobs in the past. However just last week when I thought I was just going to get a drain flushed, Andy the plumber assigned to call suspected that something more complex might be going on. After his discovery that my drains, in particular my main was filled with roots, he explained what options I had. I took an option that presented itself to be the most logical which also was going to allow me to see if I had even a bigger problem, whcih as you guessed...I did! This was late on a Friday afternoon by the time I knew it there was another plumber and the Field supervisor, Gary Rinier on site helping Andy. Once again I was presented several options to solve my problem. I chose on that was was going to require two days worth of work. Not only did they perform the work in a very neat professional manner, I was not inconvenienced one bit through the process. I had a few different issues in our bathroom - super super low water pressure with the cold faucet, hot and cold were installed on the wrong sides and the bathtub had been draining very slowly over the past couple months. I called Mr. Rooter and they came out same day and they also offer a free quote (which is harder to find than you think). I believe I called 5 different local plumbers found on Yelp and I already liked Mr. Rooter because they were willing to offer a free in home quote. Chris Martin came out and was extremely professional, very nice and very fast! I had been putting off the water pressure issue for literally years, and if I had known it was that easy I would have done it a long time ago. Not only all that, but from all the other quotes I was able to get over the phone - Mr. Rooter was about $100.00 cheaper than I think 3 others just for the drain unclogging service. It was a Sunday afternoon and I had noticed that since returning from a trip back East a few weeks ago, my shower was draining slow. So, slow, that I thought I would be able to swim in the shower. So I called a Nationally known firm. They came out and wanted $450.00 to snake the drain. At first I thought, "what the hell?" and then I thought "for $450.00????....Hell no" So I called Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Long Beach. Within 30 minutes (did I mention this was a Sunday afternoon?) He carried himself with great professionalism and explained my options, the issue ended up being a little tougher than I expected which would've been a nightmare if I would've tried to do it myself. Mr. Rooter of Long Beach is great! When my sewer backed up on a Sunday evening, I called Mr. Rooter for help. The owner, Greg, called me back right away and let me know that all of his technicians were already booked for the evening but that they could get someone out first thing in the morning. I agreed and Brian arrived Monday morning, exactly as promised. Brian was very professional and thorough. He quickly and methodically diagnosed the problem and showed us exactly what was causing the issue on camera. In our case, the connection from the house sewer line to the line in the street had come apart (the connection is nearly 50 years old so it was not overly surprising). Brian and his partner had to remove a section of the driveway apron and dig a large, 6 foot deep hole to reach the connection. They rebuilt and reconfigured the connection to remove the stress that had caused the failure. Brian and his partner also did a thorough job of cleaning up when they were done. They even went so far as to clean the neighbor's driveway and the street. In short, Mr. Rooter did a fantastic job in all respects from promptly returning calls, to sending a knowledgeable, skilled and efficient crew, to cleaning up the site and leaving it better than they found it. To top it off, I thought their price was very fair for the amount of work performed. You can't ask for more. These guys are the best. read more

Great service, professional and reliable! I had a sink drain clogged on a Sunday afternoon around 4:00 p.m. a couple of weeks ago. Not only were the kitchen sinks clogged, but water started coming out on the bar sink on the other side of my kitchen. I called the smell good plumbers first and they couldn't send anybody. I called Mr. Rooter and I had a plumber by 6:00 p.m. It took him about an hour and half but got the job done and thoroughly explained to us what the cause of the problem was. Plumbing problems are absolutely the worst and to happen on a Sunday afternoon, but this company came through for me, made it as less painful as possible. The fee was steep (about $300.00) but I could have gotten flooded and it would have cost a lot more. The value was there: prompt, professional, reliable, AND he smelled really good! read more
