Pretty good. I got the Nasi Campur... It wasn't nasty at all, but the char siu wasn't that good. I had to drown it in their soup/gravy thing. The egg was good, but I prefer Vietnamese braised pork & eggs. The Chinese sausage is good of course, can't mess that up. The best thing was the chicken in this dish. Really crispy. Overall, pretty large amount of rice and not that much meat for the price, but at least most of it tasted pretty good.
Came here to order to go closer to the restaurant's closing time. The staff was very friendly and food came out within a few mins - I love the efficiency! I got the beef rendang and it just tastes like what I got back in Indonesia. The flavor was wonderful. I will definitely come back next time to try their other dishes. The restaurant feels a bit fast and casual. Highly recommend here.
If you're ordering the Nasi Ayam Penyet, you're in for a treat. The chicken skin is fried to absolute perfection, while the meat underneath remains tender and shreds easily with deep, soaked-in flavor. The accompanying sambal hits the right balance of spice and sweetness, and they serve a generous amount on the side. The dish is rounded out with perfectly cooked, aromatic rice topped with savory fried garlic, which serves as a fantastic complement. The rice itself has a great texture--soft and not overcooked. Beyond the food, the service is very friendly, and the dining room is surprisingly spacious. Easily a solid spot for authentic comfort food.
Cutest little hole in the wall in Alhambra. Given the diversity of our orders, we pretty much ordered the entire menu. I can happily say that we loved everything we got. Looks like their menu has nothing but winners. I got the rendang. For the price, my plate offered so much value in exchange for the $16.50 it cost. The ratio of protein to rice to veggies was more than reasonable. It was delicious and authentic! I didn't find it spicy. They add some sort of sambal to your plate so if you wish to, you could increase the heat. The bathroom was clean. So was the entire restaurant. And the staff were solicitous and ready to accommodate our needs. Given the level of hospitality we experienced as well as the incredible value we got from our very satisfying meal, you can bet we'll be back very soon.
I got the Melayu and the Gado Gado to share. I felt that everything was very affordable and the portion is very decent for the price. This was my first time having the Gado Gado, it was pretty good and interesting but definitely wouldn't be my top choice. It was basically a bed of lettuce with peanut sauce, while it did taste good nothing really stood out and it tastes exactly how it sounds. The Melayu came with Indonesian curry, rice, fried chicken etc. The fried chicken pretty much tasted like popcorn chicken but I loved the curry and peanut anchovy sauce it came with, it was so flavoral and really tied the whole dish together.
Borneo Eatery had been on my list for a while and being a fan of the food from that region made it a must try. The place can get busy so just be prepared for that. I went with the Borneo Seafood with flat rice noodles, good portion size and well seasoned. But the smoky flavor was what really got me. That's the kind of thing that makes a dish memorable.

We ordered the roti prata, laksa, and cendol dessert for my parents, and the chicken satay, nasi campur, penyet plate, roti prata, and teh tarik for the rest of the family. Overall, the food tasted great and everyone enjoyed their dishes. Definitely get the coconut rice, which brings a rich yet light flavor to the rice and makes it absolutely delicious. The standout for me was definitely the roti prata -- cooked to perfection: crispy, light, airy, and super satisfying. The flavors across the dishes were solid and made me excited to come back and explore more of the menu. My only disappointment was the portion for the large roti prata order. It only came with 2 rotis and a small container of curry sauce, which felt a bit skimpy for the price/size. Still, the quality of the food was excellent overall, and I'd definitely come back again to try other dishes.
The milk tea with jelly is a must-try! We ordered 3 dishes for the two of us: Roti Prata: The sauce has a strong, delicious flavor. Just dip the roti in and enjoy! Chicken Rice and Egg noodle were good, but in my opinion, the chicken was a bit too sweet.
Super delicious Indonesian/singaporean/malaysian food. It's a cute little mom and pop shop and the service was super quick! As a born and semi-bred Malaysian, Borneo Eatery is a solid pick for those looking to try or revisit borneo-cuisine. Came in early on a Friday and was greeted with friendly service. Ordering was quick and we were checked in on a handful of times. The staff were attentive and smiley. I got the Nasi Lemak as that was a personal favourite of mine growing up. It didn't exactly hit the spot but it definitely surprised me in a good way. The chopped up chicken allowed for a crispier exterior but also meant less juicy meat. Cabbage as a side was new to me, but was fresh and creamy. Solid sambal, though I'd personally like it a touch hotter. Overall a different take that works and makes it a wonderful, easy to eat rice dish. Chicken satay was great! Nutty sauce with a crispy garnish. It's missing the smoky flavour but the meat was cooked very well. A casual, family-friendly, hole-in-the-wall restaurant that lives up to it's name.
Plenty of well lit seating inside, Very attentive staff, I was greeted immediately entering the restaurant. I asked for takeout and was handed a menu. Right when I set down the menu someone came up to take my order. The flavor isn't strong, almost bland. The best way for me to explain it is if you took yesterday's leftovers and threw it all together. Hokkien mie- Taste like chicken broth with a instant ramen packet Topped with tea egg, yesterdays chassiu, and some butter chicken. Overall the service is good, response time good, cleanliness good.
The food was delicious! It was my first time going here, so we tried a little of everything. My favorite was definitely the chicken satay, it was so flavorful and came with 5 skewers, which I thought was pretty good for the price. My other favorite was the hokkien mie, the noodles were a nice texture and I really liked the chicken in them The borneo style fried rice and nasi campur plate were also yummy! Loved the char siu The roti was good, but I do not think the portion was good considering the price ($9.50 for 2) The service was ok, we did sit there for awhile before someone came over & we could ask for the check. Also, parking is kind of hard, you either can do street or there is a lot near the restaurant we parked at. Overall, it was yummy and I would go again!

Really enjoyed Borneo Eatery. We ordered the Singapore Laksa, Nasi Campur, and Roti Prata and pretty much cleaned everything up. The Singapore Laksa was my favorite. The curry broth was creamy, spicy, and packed with flavor. It came with shrimp, fish cake, tofu, egg, corn, bean sprouts, and noodles, so there was a lot in that bowl. There was actually an error with our order, but our server was so apologetic and immediately had the kitchen remake it. We didn't ask or complain, she just wanted to make it right. Really appreciated that. The Nasi Campur was great too. Rice with BBQ pork, Chinese sausage, fried chicken, and egg. Lots of different flavors on one plate and good if you want to try a little bit of everything. Roti Prata is always hard for me to pass up. Crispy and flaky on the outside, chewy inside, and that curry sauce they give you for dipping is so good. We finished that pretty quickly. Good food and even better service. Mistakes happen, especially at restaurants. How they handle them matters more to me, and our server handled ours perfectly. Would definitely come back. read more
Packed restaurant with an authentic feel to it. We were met with warm service, feeling accommodated especially given my girlfriend's nut allergy. Food came out quickly and was quite good. Singapore Laksa (6/10) - the curry was rather thin and lacking in flavor but maybe that's because it's intended to be more of a soup. I would've preferred rice on the side instead of rice noodles. Next time I would get the actual curry instead of this, but that is just personal preference Roti (8/10) - probably the best thing we had. It was simple but very delicious, flakey and decadent. The curry sauce was much thicker and paired along well, giving a sweet and mildly spicy flavor Nasi Campur (7/10) - the first bite was delicious, but gradually became more monotonous after each bite. I think the ratio of fried chicken thigh to the sausage and cha siu was slightly off, adding to the repetitive nature of the dish. Overall, it was still quite good read more

Been wanting to come to Borneo Kalimantan for more than 10 years since they were just a little portion with barely any room to sit. They since have expanded and finally we were able to go. With that said, we ordered the Roti Prata ($5.99) - comes with only 1 piece along with a very small portion of curry sauce to dip. Expensive for what it is. For entrees we got the Borneo Seafood 'From The Wok' (rice option, $17) but more like 'fried rice' consists of a few shrimps, strips of fish cake slices, and some fish ball halves; and their Gado Gado salad ($13) - a medley of fried tofu, some bean sprouts and cut cucumbers along with fried shallot toppings and peanut dressing, but the egg omitted. All were good but not great, well, actually the roti curry dipping was excellent but too bad it was so small. Excellent friendly staff. Seating was quick followed by their prompt ordering process, and alas, food came out fairly quickly. Why the 3-stars you might asks? I find the food price to be on the higher side for what they serve. $6 for a single piece of roti is a slight overkill considering we were used to getting two pieces accompanied with a much bigger bowl of curry compared to similar (Malaysian/Singaporean) restaurants. But this isn't the main issue.... The main (issue) surprise: There is an extra 3% credit-card surcharge on top of your bill which isn't noted anywhere as I found out after I got home. When the server came back with their little machine to pay, options were the 'tip' - starting with the usual at 18% so forth, and of course most tend to choose the first option, as I did. Brought my phone up close to device unit using Apple Pay and NFC kicks in! So in short, I paid 21% more on top of my regular bill. Question is, who doesn't use credit cards these days, or was it just another form of surcharge to cover employee health insurance to deter from mentioning? Be aware. read more

It was my first time here and I was amazed by the food and friendly staff! Ordered: 1) Roti Prata: loved the texture of the roti and the curry-like sauce on the side 2) Singapore Laksa: felt so comforting! Never had Laksa before so I don't have anything to compare it to. But I loved how much ingredients they pack into a single bowl! All of this with noodles in a sweet and savory curry broth :) 3) Chicken satay Rice Combo: IMO, this was the highlight of the meal! The chicken was super juicy and the satay sauce was so delicious and you have to pair this with some coconut rice! Amazing combo! Would definitely come back just for this! read more
My very first time trying Indonesian/Singaporean/Malaysian cuisine, and I am a huge fan! This is definitely a hole-in-the-wall place, which confirmed to me that the dishes were authentic. The interior is so cute and colorful that it made the dining experience all the more fun and appetizing. We ordered a Large Roti Prata (2 grilled flour based pancake/bread) that is served with their Indonesian curry sauce. The soft/chewy Roti Prata dipped in the curry sauce was phenomenal! I absolutely loved everything about this appetizer. For the main, we ordered Lemak, which is a coconut grant rice plate served with friend chicken, fried tofu, curry egg, and spicy peanut anchovy. Interestingly, the star of this dish was the peanut anchovy and curry egg. We also ordered the famous Singapore Laksa that comes with a choice of egg noodles, vermicelli, or flat rice noodles. This noodle soup is a creamy coconut milk-based curry with shrimp, fish cake, fried tofu, marinated egg, sweet corn, and bean sprouts. I would definitely order this again! It seems like a lot of people get the Chicken Satay so I definitely want to come back to try that and get some of the other menus that I've tried previously again. read more
I hadn't been to Borneo since they expanded the restaurant. Today my Indonesian friend came down from the Bay Area, and we wanted Indonesian food, so we came here. We parked at a nearby city lot, and there was no wait on a Friday night. The expanded space feels much more spacious, and the colorful doors on the wall make the interior feel lively. Since it's Friday during Lent, we were looking for vegetarian options. The staff told us we could substitute tofu for any protein, which was great. We ordered roti, chicken satay, kwe tiau siram, Indo-style fried rice, and cendol. Everything was delicious, and we were happy with all the dishes. Came back here, and the food was delicious. It wasn't too crowded on Thursday around 6:30PM (only a few tables were occupied), so we were able to walk in and place our order fairly quickly. This time, I tried these items: Singapore Laksa - I actually loved this. Like curry noodles, good flavor, not too strong, totally enjoyable. (4.5/5) Hakka Mie - It was good. Simple and classic. Nothing too crazy, but tasty. (4/5) Cendol - A tasty dessert drink. Not too sweet, though the drink wasn't topped off. Still good. We walked in around 7:30PM on a Wednesday night. Not a lot of people. We got greeted immediately and then seated. Food came out quick after we ordered. It was very delicious. I also placed a togo order for the next morning. Togo order for 13 people and they were able to accommodate me! I paid the night before and they called the next morning, 30 mins before their opening time, to confirm that I am picking up the food. It was great experience! Let's start with parking. You'll want to park behind the building in the parking structure. During primetime it can get a little hectic, but our tip is to just head straight to the top floor if it's around 7 PM. That usually saves you time circling around. The restaurant itself is small but cozy. It's not one of those places with flashy décor or a "wow" factor, but it definitely gives off a more intimate Malaysian vibe, which we enjoyed. This was our second visit, and compared to the first time there were fewer people. We arrived around 7 PM and were seated immediately, which was great. Here's what we ordered: Gado Gado - $13 Rating: 7.9/10 A mix of lettuce, bean sprouts, cabbage, cucumber, egg, and tofu dressed in their homemade peanut sauce. It's a great option for vegetarians. The peanut sauce was rich, creamy, and flavorful. Definitely a tasty appetizer and worth trying. Roti Prata (Small) - $4.99 (Large with two pieces - $9.50) Rating: 6/10 To be honest, it felt a bit pricey for one small piece. I also remember it being thicker and fluffier the first time we had it. This time it was more thin and flaky. The curry dip was still nice, but it tasted a little watered down compared to our last visit. Nasi Rendang - $16 Rating: 7.8/10 This dish reminded me of the Indonesian banana leaf dish Nasi Bungkus. It comes with beef rendang, fried tofu, curry egg, and spicy peanut anchovy over steamed rice covered in curry sauce. I liked that the rice had sauce on top, the egg had great texture, and the beef was soft and flavorful. Singapore Laksa - $17 Rating: 7.5/10 You can choose between egg noodles, vermicelli, or flat rice noodles. We went with the egg noodles, which honestly tasted a lot like ramen noodles. The shrimp-based curry laksa broth was smooth and flavorful though, and the shrimp, fish cake, fried tofu, and marinated egg gave the dish nice variety and texture. Overall, the ambience was welcoming and the servers were friendly. There was one older server who I remember from our last visit as well -- she is honestly the sweetest, even though I forgot to get her name this time. Did not care for the service nor the food. We arrived before the restaurant opens. Parking lot in the back was already full, which I can only imagine that it was the employees that were parking there. Free Public parking is available in the public parking structure off 1st Street for 4 hours ($70 parking ticket if you get cited beyond 4 hrs) Anyways, the servers were very rude. Communication was horrible. They would be annoyed with us that we didn't know what dishes we wanted and that we didn't want the spice level offered. They would not explain to us what type of noodles the dishes had nor let us know what was popular. Ice water was brought to us with barely an ice or maybe 2-3 that were 98% melted to no ice at all. Ice coffee tastes more like milk than it did coffee. And the creepy servers would just stay there hanging over you watching you eat and waiting for you to leave. We were the first ones there requesting a table for a party of 6 and they acted like we were bothering them. Kept asking if we were ready to order when our entire party had not yet arrived. read more
this was my first time trying this cuisine. we were nicely greeted and seated. staff was very nice we ordered a few dishes: hokkien mie, roti, laksa. i liked the hokkien mie noodles but the toppings were not my favorite. my friend enjoyed them though! roti was soft and crispy. very light and tasted great with the sauce laksa had a nice coconut flavor. i loved the noodles in this dish!! inside feels very homey and there is a good amount of seating. read more
Ordered the Singaporean laksa (had tofu shrimp fish cake corn soy sauce egg bean . sprouts) to go. service was polite and quick. opted for the egg noodle. I had leftover broth ate it the next day with my own cooked noodles. Make sure you ask for some hot sauce if you enjoy spicy. read more

Solid food, OK service, causal ambiance. Most things are slightly spicy. Parking in the back. Very similar to Thai food but with different names and some spice differences. The beef and chicken satay was very good. Both how it was cooked and flavor. The peanut sauce! So good! Their chicken was also pretty good, cooked well and moist but not as flavorful as satay. The egg was a little strange to me. Whatever the outer shell around it wasn't good. Pickled veggies are OK. Their drinks are also pretty interesting, I got something that reminded me of halo halo. The food here was absolutely delicious! This was my first time trying this place and I want to try everything on the menu. We started off with Roti Prata for the appetizer, the Singapore Laksa & Indo Style as our entree, and Teh Tarik for our drink! The Roti Prata was amazing and I was already feeling slightly full after eating it. The serving sizes of our entrees were the perfect size and priced reasonably. The Teh Tarik was so yummy and reminded me a lot of Meet Fresh's Icy Grass Jelly. Inside, the restaurant is very nice and cosy. I loved this place. It's cute, clean, and welcoming. Having just come back from Singapore, I really appreciated the photos of hawker centers on the walls--they felt authentic, not gimmicky. Our server was all smiles and genuinely helpful when we asked what to order. We went with the roti, chicken satay, and nasi campur, and everything was excellent. The standout for me was the chicken satay--this is often dry and chewy, but here it was moist and flavorful. Parking was easy, too. I found a free parking garage around the corner and later learned there's also parking in the back, which is a nice bonus. Definitely a place I'd happily return to. read more
Great flavors and a wide selection of options from this place. As Indonesian/Malaysian/Singaporean cuisine goes, this is a solid choice. The restaurant itself has pretty spacious seating and the staff is quite attentive. Their satay and roti were really solid appetizers. Their Singapore Laksa, Rendang, and Borneo Seafood noodles were ordered by our party and they loved it. The Rendang was a little too much on the spicy side. Always passed by here and see there is usually a lot of people dining here. So I was curious to try it! We ordered the Laksa with egg noodle, Borneo Rice, Satay Plate with curry rice, and a small size Roti. The Laksa noodle came out first, which the portion was a lot smaller than expected. The flavor was pretty nice, but the broth was not as thick as I imagined. Then the Satay Plate came next, which I actually enjoyed the most! The chicken on the satay was soft and flavorful, very easy to eat off the skewer. The curry rice with it was quite interesting, which I liked how the curry flavor was kind of subtle to it. The fried onions were a nice touch. Then came the borneo rice, which looked really dark from soy sauce maybe? It was pretty decent, although kinda salty. My bf enjoyed it though cause that's his type of fried rice haha. We ended up getting a roti last, which they brought it to us fresh. This was so soft and hot, it tore apart quite perfectly. It's not too airy, but just quite soft and the right amount of chewiness to it. Overall, it was nice to finally try this place! Service was a bit slow, but they were all very friendly. read more
Borneo continues to be one of my favorite neighborhood spots! Food is always so good and servers are always friendly! My go to's are the laksa, gado gado, and roti. Lots of seating inside and orders are well packed when you get takeout as well. Parking is available in the structure or lot behind the restaurant. read more
Can't believe I haven't reviewed this place on Yelp yet, especially since I've been here so many times! Finally brought my husband here for his first visit. Of course, I had to order my go-to laksa--I've missed it so much. Flavor is still there, but portions have definitely gone down. Very little meat: only two pieces of fish cake, two pieces of char siu, and half an egg, which was disappointing given how much I used to love this dish. My mom ordered the beef stir-fry noodles, which were actually pretty good with that nice wok-hei flavor. Service was just okay--nothing memorable, but fine. The place has expanded since the last time I was here, which was nice to see. My husband ordered a rice plate and really enjoyed it, so that was a win. Love the decor with Singapore street-eats photos lining the walls--it adds character and fits the vibe. Overall, still a solid spot with nostalgic flavors, but the portion cut on the laksa definitely stood out. Hoping they bring it back to what it used to be. read more
I think i prefer the singapore laksa over all the other dishes as the curry is super flavorful. I also like the roti but it is pricey since its 9.50 for 2 pieces. The bakso was good but i realized the noodles didnt match with it. The small vermecilli tastes better when its stir fried. I couldnt really taste the broth unless i eat the noodle and soup separately. The hokkein mie is like indomie instant noodles but with a bunch of meat added on. They also have tea egg but its more on the sweater side. I wouldnt mind eating the tea egg by itself. The inside is cute. They have colored doors that reminds me of monsters inc. read more

Came on a rainy Monday and there wasn't a single guest inside.. We were skeptical but still decided to try it since we were there already and didn't want to go through the hassle of finding something else to eat. Food was decent but not amazing. We were served water right away. But the water was questionable, there was something settled at the bottom of one of our cups. Water was room temperature. Rendang -loved that the rice soaked up the curry and added most of the flavor. Fried tofu was a little dry in my opinion. Beef wasn't tender but wasn't dry.. it was alright. Nasi Campur -fried chicken was quite dry, few pieces that have chicken skin helped. Char siu was sliced really thin, might be better if they were slightly thicker. Borneo in Alhambra was such a solid lunch spot. Came on a Sunday afternoon and had no wait, which already set the tone for a great experience. Parking is usually in the structure behind the restaurant, but we opted to park in the plaza across the street, which was super easy and convenient. The food came out surprisingly fast and was genuinely excellent! It had bold, comforting flavors, perfectly cooked, and clearly made with care. Everything tasted fresh and satisfying, and nothing felt rushed despite the quick turnaround. Service was warm, attentive, and efficient, making the whole experience smooth from start to finish. Love love LOVEEE this place!! Not only was it affordable but the portions were adequate as well. We got the laksa, roti, & lemak. The laksa was flavorful, similar to curry (8/10). The lemak was AMAZING, the flavors paired well together, chicken was crispy, and loved the peanuts (9/10). Roti was flaky and crispy as well 8/10. Cute interior and nicely decorated. This place is really good. The portions are a bit small but everything is great. Roti with curry: 8/10. Not as good as takeout but that's understandable Various rice dishes: 8/10. All good and solid, but they're not very different from each other. That's not a bad thing - it just means family style doesn't do much haha. There was some sort of spicy peanut anchovy side or something that was phenomenal Noodle dishes: 8/10. Also good but didn't have one stand out in particular A lot of the appetizers are very pricey for what you get. I'd rather get a main dish at that point. Everything is kind of oily, though, which I wasn't surprised about. Just a comment. Place is small which was why we did takeout instead. Service good. Yes! I always order their laksa with no meat and they sub with tofu and taste AMAAAZING! Also mie goreng Karet ( fried chewy noodle no meat ) delish and also fried kwetiau!
