We're visiting and while in the area decided to get some healthier food. Food was decent, not the best Mediterranean that I've had but my husband really enjoyed his chicken shawarma sandwich. Food is amazing!!! Each time I try another Mediterranean restaurant it just makes me realize how much better Yaffa Grill is. Had the kofta and rice. Great spices and flavor and meat was done to perfection. There was also a bar with hummus, tabuli, and some delightful other salads. So delicious. Tried a carbonated drink with mint and lemon and liked it so much I bought a few bottles from the small grocery located next door. I will start off by saying I don't normally write reviews. I was in town and Yaffa was across the street. I went in my girlfriend and was just blown away. Best mediterranean I have ever had! Delicious, healthy, and a great value. My girlfriend loved it too. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma entree. This also gives you access to salad bar. Everything was super fresh and delicious. Chicken kebab was GREAT! Unfortunately rice was cold. Waitress was doing too much, never had a refill and had to ask for silverware twice and got it 20 minutes into the meal. Never got the salad without asking for it again and had the wrong receipts..overall it was okay. I think they just need to hire more staff so everything stays timely and the waitress staff isn't overwhelmed during big rushes. Not a place to go for quick lunch at this time! read more

Lost for words ... after reading the reviews, I ended up here. First, the menu in the Yelp photos is not the same menu at the restaurant. Secondly, I ordered the Chicken Kabob entree... the chicken was ok... the rice was way too much and every bite had a different taste and not the taste I wanted. There was no Arabic salad. We came in for lunch and didn't realize they had a lunch buffet. So of course did that! It was only $10. But you know how buffets are. There's always something you were really craving that they've left off that day. For me it was tabouli. But the chicken Shwarma, falafel and hummus were all delicious. Until they replenished the chicken with what I can only describe as all the leftover pieces of meat that are discarded when you make kebabs. It was gross. The beef Shwarma was good but it was never replenished so I only got a few stray pieces. Same for the soup. The salads were okay. Meat eaters this is your place! I ordered a ton of food for take out for 10 people and it was totally devoured. For the vegetarians they provide hummus, falafel and some other treats that go great with their pita bread. However, this is THE place to go to for some amazing meat. Been going to Yaffa regularly for 3 years and we love their food. Almost always take out, but that hasn't mattered. My wife gets the veggie plate and I get the mixed grill. If you're a meat eater get it medium or less so it's not dry. The sides are great and I love the rice. read more

I was super excited to try kebabs and shawarma in Ohio. The reviews were great and the photos were mouthwatering. Sadly the service was quite slow and the meats were pretty dry. Maybe it's because I arrived at almost 9pm. On the plus side, the fresh, warm Pita was very good as was the Hummus. The Tabbouleh was a bit bland. I would like to give it another shot sometime. I've been to Yaffa Grill multiple times prior to COVID and it was one of my fav places to get Greek. They were always so kind and the food was delicious. This time, I ordered over the phone and the person who answered the phone was nice at first but sounded annoyed with me asking questions. She also never answered my question about what is included in certain foods. Thinking I was hangry, I let it go and ordered anyways. 2 chicken shawarma platters with rice, Arabic salad, and hummus. When I got home and opened my food, the platter was mostly rice, very little lightly seasoned chicken, and 2 cold pitas. While eating, I was biting into my food and there was something hard in the chicken that scared me and made me check my teeth to see if I chipped it. After that, I was over eating it and threw it away. A waste of money. I feel like if I would have sat in to eat, this wouldn't have happened. I used to be a frequent customer, but after today, I will not be going back. Very disappointing. read more

So happy with Yaffa Grill. We love their food! Our first time coming here and we ordered the Mixed Shawarma entree and Lamb Kebob entree. The entrees came with free salads, hummus, baba ganoush & other items that they had at their salad bar. First of all, the baba ganoush was excellent & the hummus was delicious as well. The server gave us some warm pita bread before our main entrees came. The shawarma & kebob we had was so flavorful & yummy & the rice was delicious too. The portions were pretty big & we had to take like half of our food home. Next time we may order just one entree to split. For dessert, we decided to try their baklava which was so good! Overall tasty! I read a lot of reviews of Yaffa Grill, so I decided to try it while I was staying at the Air Force base. I tried the hummus appetizer and beef shawerma sandwich combo. The food was overall very good, I just thought the hummus was going to be better. It was a little plain and could have had more seasoning. The beef shawerma was good, the beef was very savory and had a lot of flavor. I especially liked the crispy fries it came with. For all that food and a drink I paid about $10. Good price and you get a lot of food! There's a lot of seating, I went around 5pm and it was pretty empty inside. If you are looking to try something different, I'd recommend coming here and giving it a shot! read more

Nothing fancy as far as the restaurant itself. It has the appearance of a fast food establishment, however, it's the food you'll want to go for. I've visited a few times for lunch, as well as a few additional times for carry-out and have never been disappointed. I used to eat there years ago and the food was great. Just got takeout there and it was a total change. The food portion was much smaller (probably about half of what it was a couple years ago) and yet the prices are 50% more (at least). It was over $40 for two people to eat. I got some Kebbeh and it was hard and tasted absolutely nasty. I don't know about what was wrong but it was clearly overcooked and later made me sick. The meat Kabobs were also overcooked and had the burnt taste to them ruining my main meal as well. I'd advise against eating there and I won't be back ever again. Came in at lunch to get away from the office for a bit. Was directed to have a seat and that they would take my order. After 10 minutes having passed I went back up to the counter and had my order taken there. It wasn't even that busy. Portions are large and affordable. Atmosphere is more of a grab and go restaurant as everything is served on paper plates and drinks are the bottled or canned variety. There are definitely some kinks that need to be worked out with their ordering system, but the food is good enough to have me come back. Food was great. Staff and owner need to go. First off, decide what you are. You walk in to a casual restaurant and the first thing you see is a large menu board above you and a staff member at the cash register your inclination is to order food at the cash register. Each time I've been there I've been told to sit down in a rather annoyed tone by the person at the cash register (most visits smelled like cigarettes). Fine, I get it... I sit down and you take my order. Then the food is brought to you. Enjoy the food and hope the waitress I observed sneezing 3x in the kitchen isn't too sick because I don't really want what she has... At the end of the meal you have to pay at the cash register. There are self serve garbage cans in the dining area. Here's a tip, you're either full service or self service, this half-baked hybrid concept is annoying. Here's the real beef... we were foolish enough to eat here THREE times to try the food and to -try- to place a large catering order for party of 30 adults. I left my contact information once and talked to the owner twice. Did I get a call back? Nope. Nope. Nope. I guess some people just don't care about quality and the customer experience. Needless to say this was all a great excuse to write off Yaffa and to try Pita Wrap Grill down the street. Pita Wrap Grill got our large catering order and their food and hospitality are A+++. The day before an old friend and I were to disembark for the Middle East, we ate @ Yaffa, one of my friend's best-loved eateries in all of Ohio, where he has lived w/his family the past ten years. He joked that we would be fortunate to find anything in the actual Middle East that was anywhere near as good as Yaffa Grill. Turns out my friend was right: the food at Yaffa wound up being far superior to just about anything I personally tried in the Holy Land. I especially loved the gigantic sea bass, lightly battered and crisped. The owner/chef, upon learning it was my first time @ Y.G., gave us a large sampler platter including hummus, pureed garlic, and of course, baba ganoush! Any Yelp review where I get to legitimately mention the Baba Ganoush is mega cool, and like everything else there, including the gigantic Greek salad w/lamb kabobs, was the bee's knees. I'd stopped by the Quizno's Subs across from Wright State a few weeks ago, only to see that a new restaurant had taken up next door! "Ah-ha!" said I, "Mediterranean food! Yum!" I'm a late comer to Mediterranean food, having only first tried it down in Orlando on Jules' and my honeymoon. But in the last few years, I've had some great experiences. Moose's Restaurant in Springfield, Cedarland in Dayton, and Pasha Grille over at The Greene have all given me a glorious taste of Greek/Turkish food. Yaffa, in terms of food, is quality. Jules and I arrived for lunch last week and we left stuffed. My kufta kabobs were pleasantly spicy, the rice pilaf was done to satisfaction, and the server pulled us a wide variety of Mediterranean salads and sides that really satisfied. I can't say the food is better than Moose's, really--Moose's garlic sauce pushes everything over the edge! But, it's good, it's fresh, and it fills you up. If I do have a complaint about the food, it's the pita bread. There are numerous bakeries around Dayton, but Yaffa's bread come straight from a plastic bag. That's a big disappointment for me, because it'd be easy to do it better. What kills me about Yaffa, though, is the ambiance and decor. The restaurant barely feels like it's open, with bare walls and little in the way of decor. There's no soda fountain or the like; Jules and I were served our drinks with cans from a mini-fridge and given plastic utensils to eat with. Plus, for whatever reason, the friends of the owners have made Yaffa into something of their personal hangout, sitting and laughing loudly, while not actually eating or ordering anything. If it sounds like I'm overly negative towards Yaffa, I don't mean to be. The food was truly good and there was plenty of it. But, if you're planning to go there, stick to take-out. You'll get the pleasure of the food without the negatives of the ambiance and decor. read more

Yaffa Grill was a wonderful surprise, tucked away in a strip mall, looking like a fast food place from the outside, but inside offering some of the best middle eastern food I've ever had. Grilled lamb chops to die for, perfect felafel (crisp on the outside, moist on the inside), and a "salad bar" that includes creamy hummous and smoky babaganoush. (Salad bar comes with every entree.) Even the rice that accompanied the entrees was a revelation. And do NOT miss the baklava, which was flaky and balanced rather than smothered in so much honey you couldn't taste anything else. An unobtrusive sound track added a bit of atmosphere (easy to forget you were in Dayton). Service also was excellent, with helpful and informed waitress. read more

This is a small place in a small plaza over by Wright State University. The food is really good and priced fair. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is casual. My boyfriend and I had Yaffa Grill today for lunch. We got a Groupon and based on the reviews, we were pretty excited. We walked in the restaurant, and the staff was friendly, we picked the table and were helped right away. As we sat on the table, we began noticing a weird smell, like poop. I noticed that one of the bathrooms was out of order. The longer we sat there, the worse the smell seemed to get. One of the people working there (I assume it was the owner) sprayed air freshener. Although the intentions were good, it just made it worse. While waiting for our food, a woman walked in the restaurant with gloves on and went into the kitchen. The whole time I was praying that she changed her gloves because she definitely touched the door and who knows what else. The food is served on paper plates, with plastic forks and knives and foam cups. The whole time I was hoping that the food is twenty times better than the whole experience. Well, it was a big disappointment. I got the Chicken Shish Kabob and my boyfriend got the Shish Kabob. The chicken was well seasoned, but VERY dry. It was served on a bed of rice and the little amount of chicken was not worth almost $12. The lamb was not only dry, it was also very hard and, again, the 3 little pieces were placed on a bed of rice that we did not eat even half of. For both dishes, they give you a sauce, which I truly believe that it is to help the meat to go down easier since it is SO DRY! For the sides, we both chose Baba Ganoush, which was delicious. My boyfriend had the Arabic Salad, which was refreshing and very well seasoned. I had the Yogurt Salad. I ordered the salad thinking that would be refreshing, but in reality, it was bland and not tasty at all. A few hours after the meal, we began to feel sick. So I'm nearing the end of my meal and I've got a little of everything left -- one piece of pita and some hummus, some of the Arabian salad, pieces of each kind of kebab from the mixed grill. Only enough room for one. Which do I choose? The hummus. It started out looking beautiful and is just as delicious as it looks. Few places make it this well. The Arabian salad was very good too, really refreshing. All the kebabs were good and it's hard to choose a favorite, but the char on the chicken put that over the top. The kufta were really good too, as was the lamb (most mild of the three). Ok, yeah, the plates are paper or styrofoam, as are the cups, and the utensils are plastic.
