They served us hot bread and butter, which was really good. We had Chilean sea bass, fish and chips and chicken marsala. The fish and chips were delicious with tempura batter. Exceptional food as always. Our entrees were prepared to perfection. Service was abhorrent. Basically, the waitperson displayed a negative attitude from the get-go. Was it because we didn't order multiple entrees? Was it because we didn't order expensive wine? But there was definitely a negative vibe throughout our dinner, starting after we placed our order and I asked whether we did something wrong to offend her. Old style steak house, ribeye and pork chop were both excellent, good service. You can eat in the lounge (noisy) or the dinning room, which was nice and quiet. Great selection of drinks, beer, and wine. Location is in a strip mall, but they offer free valet parking which was a plus. Only downside is it's a little pricey, but I would go back again. We have eaten here many times over the years, and Mr. Vi's Bar and Grill is definitely the best upscale restaurant in La Mirada. The service is always friendly and helpful, the drinks are always poured to perfection, and the food is always excellent. There are so many great dishes on the menu: Tuna Crab Cakes., Caesar Salad, Chinese Chop Chicken Salad, Jambalaya, Chicken Marsala, Kung Pao Shrimp, Atlantic Salmon, Chilean Sea Bass and so much more. The food we ordered was great, no complaints, the atmosphere wonderful and the service from our server Jessica, just the best! It was my birthday celebration, we made the reservations a few weeks ago, because I was asked where I'd like to go to celebrate, I told my friends, Mr. V's, and then we were heading over for the last show of "Jersey Boys" at La Mirada at 6:30 PM. After what would have been the perfect evening, we had 2, not 1 but 2 shocking episodes with Tyson their Manager. When Jessica heard it was my birthday, she said we give a BD dessert of Panna Cotta. I said we also are heading to the La Mirada Theater and they sponsor your restaurant on their tickets, she said then you'd also get a desert of your choice. I said great, I don't like Panna Cotta, but my friend from Puglia, Italy loves it, and I'd like the Carrot Cake. She asked me to show her my tickets. Instead I showed her my receipt for the 6:30 PM show in my cell, I had to pick up the tickets at Will Call. Even though I showed her my receipt in the cell phone, she had to ask the Manager if it was OK to give me the Carrot Cake. I thought, "What? We have a $175+ bill including a $25 corkage fee, I've brought 10 friends here before, etc." OK, how could he say no on Mother's Day to top it off? Well, Tyson appeared and made a big stink, and said without the paper ticket, he couldn't offer the Carrot Cake, so I asked could I have it instead of Panna Cotta, NO. Finally, I got through to him and he out of what looked like disgust finally agreed. I loved the Carrot Cake, my friends didn't trust him at that point to even taste it, that's how defiant and nasty Tyson behaved. My friends were trying to get Jessica's attention to pay the tab, we were starting to run late, and getting nervous. We had to wait for her, then she had to get the credit card billed. Just then Tyson comes over to our table again, telling us, we have a 2 hour limit, and it's now time to leave! Could you imagine, in this classy, well known, highly rated restaurant, they leave a Manager like Tyson in charge to run the restaurant? They offer complimentary valet parking if you choose to. I did not make reservations for a Friday night but they were able to accommodate me after a 30-minute wait. One side of the restaurant is the bar with TV's and live music. The following side is the dining room which is dimmed with beautiful flowers and chandeliers. They started off with complimentary bread and butter, which were warm and somewhat glazed with butter already. The menu had a lot of items that I would try, specifically appetizers and meat selections. But this time, we ordered the full rack of baby back ribs with 2 sides for $36 and the $22 Chicken Kabob plate with rice pilaf and vegetables. Both dishes were cooked well and tasted good. Large plates and we had leftovers. The only negative dish that we ordered would be the Oyster Rockefellers, which came with 6 large oysters. Though our online reservation was not captured by the front of house staff, they still sat us promptly at a table in the middle of the dining room. The menu has a wide variety of entrees and at our table, they were all prepared well and served efficiently. Lamb chops, pastas, steaks were all above average. The portions are generous and the service is good+. Pricing is spot on. Cocktails were mostly good but their version of a Sazarac was wrong. They didn't use Pechaud's bitters which is mandatory. Steak is cold in the center and bloody red, not red pink. We had to send back the steak twice. Also, the steak is not cooked through grill, I believe by broiling it. The cheese, hollander sauce (i think) and spinach with the bake oyster! The rib eye is always good. I get it Medium. Never disappoints. I had a couple of other steaks and they are good. But I think i like rib eye steak the best. The service is good here. I always had good waiter or waitress serving us. Easy to get a hold and they are attentive. They will come to the table to check on us couple of times during and near the end of the meal. The atmosphere is dark and somewhat busy and loud.
