Went to Mr. Z's for the LAST TIME, October 31st, 2021 Owner was s complete JERK!! He has ZERO customer service skills. Place was cash only with no signs posted anywhere. He was yelling out to people already in line and inside saying " if you don't have cash go eat somewhere else". We had cash, so we were staying until he shoved a box of pizza in my face without apologizing. After saying something to him, he them told us to go eat somewhere else and then informed his staff to serve us cold pizza if we ordere. Mr Zs has some pretty good food for sure, but I am appalled at the rudeness of the late night crew. I'm sure the staff must get tired of dealing with drunk tourists all night, but not everyone is acting worthy of the rudeness that the staff provided to everyone. My colleague and I came into Mr Zs about 2 am on Saturday. They were pretty busy as expected, as we've been here many times before. We ordered 3 slices of cheese pizza and cheese fries. The cheese pizza arrived pretty quickly, but the fries took a LONG time. It probably took about 20 minutes for the fries, since we were already done with the pizza. Suddenly we here "MIKE!", which is the name of my colleague that ordered. We raised our hands up above the crowd from the back to let him know it was ours. "MIIIKKKKEEE!!!!" he yells again....obviously not paying attention. We finally get the food. As we sat eating our food, we would just listen to how the cashier would talk to the patrons. It was beyond rude...to EVERYONE. I could go on and on, but this review is already long enough. I'll be honest, the food was good, but if it's late at night, there are MANY other pizza places near Duval that I would recommend going to over this one. This was a small place without tables... and we sat at the counters against the wall fir our cheese steaks. We enjoyed them. The food was reasonably priced and tasty. Having been living in Philly for a while, I would still think some of the food-stands outside of the Liberty towers in downtown Philly were still better (at least psychologically). Some of the more famous Philly cheese places in Philly are definitely better than Mr. Z. Nevertheless, this is a great place in town for a good pizza and cheese steak sandwich in Key West. read more

Good but not great pizza. And pizza is a very personal thing; back in Las Vegas I knew people who swore by Boston Pizza (on Las Vegas Blvd near downtown) as the best, but to me Boston's was a loaf of Wonder Bread smothered in Ragu. Mr. Z's pizza is along the lines of New York-style: thin crust. I go for a spicier sauce, and more of it; that's where Mr. Z's pizza came up short for me. I can see other people loving the pizza here though, so your mileage may vary. The service was great and friendly. A pepperoni pizza had just come out of the oven and the baker pointed this out to us; we ate at the counter (another plus: they have a lunch counter) and pizza, more so than most foods, benefits from freshness. Mr. Z's makes for a great place to find a late night bite in KW. We come down at least once each year, but always for the KW Songwriters Festival in early May. Once the shows let out, it's usually after 11:00 and food options have dwindled. We swing by Mr. Z's for some slices every time and we're good to go. The pizza is very good and it comes out fast. The staff has always been very friendly in spite of my Mets cap. (They are a Philly-centric store, as the decorations on the walls indicate.) This is a nice place to hang out and watch the people walk by or, if you prefer, grab something for take-out and walk Duval Street, which is just around the corner. read more

Best Jersey-style pizza on the island!! The customer service is fantastic, very friendly employees, and the delivery time is super quick. A small cheese pizza & a salad are enough for 2 to share for lunch. The Mrs. Z's salad--spinach, almonds, strawberries, goat cheese, & poppy seed dressing--is really fresh & delicious. I wish I had snapped a picture before I devoured it. Husband had an Italian Hoagie "all the way," and also concurs it is the best he's had on the island. There are a handful of mediocre pizza joints in Key West, do yourself a favor and walk past them & get to Mr. Z's. 5-star service on any old day, 6-stars after a full day on the boat or a fun night on Duval. read more

Anyone saying the cheesesteaks are anywhere near what you get in Philly left a drunken review or had an alcohol induced fuzzy memory from the night before. The cheesesteak was average at best. The pizza was pretty tasty, but for a place with Philly memorabilia all over the walls, I expected better. There is limited seating inside, but it's kind of useless with the constant in and out of employees and customers. You'll get bumped a lot. Visiting Key West and got sunburned on the beach, so we were feeling lazy and just ordered delivery from Mr. Z's. It was great! We ordered extra cheese and actually got extra cheese! For the extra cheese fans out there, I think we can all agree on the fact that a lot of places put no noticeable extra cheese when you order it. Well not this place! The pie was fantastic, great sauce, great toppings, and no shortage of either. The person who took my order on the phone was friendly and professional, making sure we knew it was a cash only establishment. And the delivery driver was great. He anticipated that we would need plates since we were staying in a hotel, and brought our order all the way to our room. Both were unexpected and very much appreciated. My fiance had stayed at the Pegasus his last time in Key West so he had the great good fortune of having Mr. Z's just downstairs. We were wandering Duval St and still hungry after having stopped earlier for oysters and clams so we hit Mr. Z's. There wasn't a seat in the place but we just ordered our food, took it across the street and rested on some steps. I had a cheese slice and it was fab! Made me want more. So the next night when we decided to stay in, we had a pizza and a cheesesteak delivered. Yes, bless their souls Mr. Z's delivers. The pizza was pepperoni this time and just as good. I would like a little more flavor in the sauce but the crust and cheese were so good I didn't miss it too much. The star of the show this time was that cheesesteak. The meat and cheese were exactly right (coming from a girl who grew up just outside of Philly). To me the roll wasn't exactly what it should have been but it was darned close. I wanted another cheesesteak before we left but unfortunately when my fiance went over on Friday night, the line was out the door. So I had to leave Key West without tasting heaven again. Mr. Z's is impressively the best Philly Cheesesteak this far south from Philly! The Owner is from Philadelphia, but the namesake is actually from New Jersey. Nonetheless, the restaurant maintains authenticity by offering Armoroso bread delivered from Philly, and they offer Cheese Wiz, or melted monterey jack cheese! The staff itself is great, exactly what you expect from a location like this. Food arrives timely, and everything, except the pizza, is made to order. They have a microwave in the restaurant, but I don't order anything that would be microwaved. Inside the restaurant will fit about 8-10 people uncomfortably, so this is not a sit down type of joint. If you are down on duval, I HIGHLY recommend finding this place, and having a Cheesesteak, and some fries! I guarantee you will want to go back! read more

Went into Mr Z's while having some Happy Hour drinks across the street at Krawl, right off Duval on Southard Street. I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak and the Pork Italiano. Both were made right in front of me. The staff was attentive and were very friendly. My sandwiches came out within 5 minutes and were awesome. I don't think I tasted the Philly but the Pork Italiano was incredible. My friends said the Philly was just as good. Great job! Will definitely visit again on our next trip. read more

My first time down here in a very long time, and Mr. Z's has the best food of our whole trip. We ordered a toasted Italian hoagie (the meat was such good quality - especially the capicola), cheese fries (the cheese was AMAZING), and the best white pizza I've ever had (with tons of garlic to add a nice kick). The guys working tonight were awesome, like a well-oiled machine, and the music was great to listen to while we waited. Been here many times for late night eats. Always top notch. I'm from Jersey and always say when I'm on vacation that there is no place to get a good pizza outside my area. I live very close to New York and I am not a big fan of Philly area pizza but in my opinion this is the best pizza I've had outside where I live. Cheesesteak is a little messy but very good.
