My favorite menu item here is their pork belly Bahn Mi. Which is a baguette sandwich that contains sliced pork belly, some leafy greens and some jalapeños. I would highly recommend this menu item who is really hungry or who just wants to try something different. The service here is friendly and the location is kept very clean and organized. They really need to consider the whole experience when setting their price point. The prices they have are equal to dinning in a restaurant in La Jolla or Del Mar. MRK public is in an old taco shop building with a very tiny dirty bathroom. The servers had their thumb on top of the plates when the food was served indicative of an amateur. Great service and the short rib sandwich is fabulous! Fries were great too. Oarsman Ale was good too! I will definitely come back after a surf in the near future. I don't understand the bad reviews. In a daze from what I can say has been one of the most Amazing places we have or I have ever been to. The menu... short but sweet. Salad-check... fries with delicious goodness-check... hubby had the juicy chicken sandwich with order of fries... gram's had the short rib sandwich. Both tasty sandwiches had crispy but not bloating bread and the sauces were delicate and flavorful. I swear our meal was already amazing...BUT THEN they cracked out the little lemon devils that made our dinner just Perfect. To top off the visit our server was damn awesome. Took his time to answer our Qs and go over the menu's. We must have come at the perfect time 3pm or so because we had the place to ourselves. When it was time to roll out more and more people started rollin in. We will definitely be back again. Our little gem for date night or a time without the kiddos on the road. Food was exceptional. Small but fabulous menu. Pork belly Bahn Mi was outstanding and my husband said their fried chicken sandwich was one of the best he'd ever had. Service was great, efficient & friendly. Building is not as nice as the food that comes out of the kitchen, but it's not without its modern charm. Solid beer selection & rosé was relish! Definitely going to make that a staple stop when we do our drives from San Diego to LA. read more

Was pleasantly surprised by this place - don't let the location and building deter you. They have a solid beer selection; my wife and I had 2 great sours. We shared a toast points and poke, loving both. Looking around at some of the other things coming out of the kitchen we'd definitely get the muscles next time. Our server was attentive and pleasant. I stopped in on the way back from a work trip in Los Angeles on my way home to San Diego and was excited to try this place since it seemed to have decent reviews on yelp. The inside was cool, kind of weird location though probably used to be like a taco shop or something. They didn't have a ton of gluten free options but I got a good mixed greens salad with chicken. The chicken was a little weird and almost seemed like it was frozen and warmed up. The thing I was not stoked on was that they didn't take Amex. It's 2016 and you have a computer payment system but it doesn't accept Amex? I was hoping to use my company card since I was traveling for work but was unable to. Thumbs down for that! read more

I just had dinner in this restaurant. When I arrived, it looked somewhat crowded...but having eaten there, I understand why! This place was AMAZING!!! It is run by top executive chefs and the food is all composed items that you would expect to find in five star restaurants, but surprisingly it is very affordable. Enjoyed a very delicious lunch at MRK. The menu had some delicious reliable standards with a twist including a burger cooked to perfection with roasted tomatoes and white cheddar and a Caesar salad made with Kale. The french fries were just how they should be with an addictive house sauce. I was pleased with the selection of socal beers to chose from and went with the Coffee Porter from Smog City. Win Win! My table shared the beignets. $8 might seem a bit steep for a lunch time dessert, but the generous portion was well worth it. They were perfectly dense and light and fluffy at the same time. I was impressed with the fresh lemon zest that must have been added right before placing in the window. The Yuzu curd was super tart and paired perfectly with the beignets doused in sugar. this place is overrated. we ordered fried chicken sandwich with a side salad and hamburgers with fries. Do NOT go if you're in a rush. 30 minutes later our food arrived. w I get they have a small grill but there has to be some kind of system they can put in place. I've been to plenty of hole in the wall places and food always comes out in a reasonable time. the chicken sandwich is clumps of dark meat in batter. I was mistakenly thinking it would be white chicken breasts. nope. "side salad" is mixed greens with a homemade dressing - I wasn't a fan of it. so it sat on my plate. Hamburgers were incredibly salty-my son didn't finish his because he said it was too salty. That's a first- usually Tweens love salt. My son is not a fan of mayonnaise so he asked for mustard only. Surprise! the hamburger came & the mustard is a house made mayonnaise base. overall was not a fan of this place. read more

We visited MRK for the first time and had the best fried chicken sandwich ever! It was just amazing. My husband, daughter, father-in-law and I each had one, and we were practically licking the plates when were were finished. I also had a glass of their sangria, and I enjoyed that down to the last drop also. We were stuffed after the sandwich and some french fries, so we were unable to try dessert, but that gives us something to look forward to on our next visit. read more

My wife and I went here and met another couple for dinner on Monday early evening. We ordered burgers, chicken wings, poke(which was to die for ), and some sort of bruschetta. Every one of the items was excellent. We were lucky we got there early - as the place filled up soon and had people waiting by the time we finished our dinner. Service was very good. Three owners of the place were all cooking while we were there and making sure all of the food was perfect. We plan to visit the restaurant again soon and hope the quality will be kept up. Last night I went with my family to a new restaurant in San Clemente. In the few weeks it has been open, I have only heard good things about it, including its diverse menu, quick service, and all around excellent food. Our order was taken by an employee with a great attitude who helped each of us choose an awesome meal. The ambience of the restaurant was exactly what I have come to know and love in San Clemente; classy, with a surfing, beach town environment. I ordered the Thai chicken wings, which quickly came out to our table after placing my order. They were coated with great seasoning and sauces that reminded me of Hapa J's wings, which are sweet and spicy. The french fries I ordered were also very tasty. In short, I ate some of the best wings and french fries I've ever had and was pleased to be greeted with excellent service. Although the prices were a little high, it was beyond worth it. I will definitely go back to MRK Public some time soon. read more

This place has a great vibe. Toby at the bar had a great knowledge of the beer and wine selection. Seems like lots of locals eat here and you can eat casual at the bar or more formal at a table.
