Solid 4 star donut shop. Great donuts and coffee. Most popular donut shop on the Island. For good reason .

This place is fantastic! I came here everyday for breakfast during my stay. Very friendly, delicious breakfast croissant!! I don't eat meat, however he offered to give me fresh avocado instead (which was nice because usually restaurants/ cafes do not offer you$ off or replacements without asking.) The restaurant next door was our original destination but the line was too long and I was starving. Fast, friendly, and delicious. The guy who wrote a 1 star review over the $1 charge for hot water is an idiot. They have a severe drought here and NO PLACE on the island offers free water, only bottled, not tap. If you want to get on with your day and do fun things and don't want to wait for a table next door, I highly recommend coming here for a HUGE portioned, delicious breakfast sandwich. read more

Yelpers seem to have Jacks Bake Shop mixed up with the excellent Jacks Restaurant next door. This review is for the bake shop AKA Donut Shop to locals: Nice selection of fresh baked donuts and some breakfast items. OK breakfast sandwiches and burritos. Excellent, friendly and fast service. Good coffee and priced fair IMHO. Downside, they occasionally don't open on time, but they'll still open early. read more

First off, they don't start to serve lunch aka Chinese food until 11:30. So we come back and the food still isn't ready. Then we come back again at 12:30 and it was finally ready. The wontons are not good. The food takes forever to be made. The chicken is so fatty it's not even edible, it's chewy. I would not recommend. Also super pricy. Do not eat here. read more

All of these reviews seem to be confusing the restaurant with the bakery. Yes they're owned by the same people and they're both called Jack's, but they're two different places people. The restaurant is good if you have an hour to sit down for breakfast. But if you just want a doughnut on the go or you want to bring croissants and danish back to your vacation condo, this is the place to go. The Apple Fritter is to die for! I get one every time I'm on the island, because there is nothing like it at home. Cute little restaurant. Service was awesome! Staff was very friendly! The place was packed and our order came out in less than 5 minutes. The coffee was how I like it (not strong like Starbucks). Loved coming to this Donut Shop early in the AM on the Island because it was the only place I could find open for coffee at 6 - 6:30 am. I had the breakfast burrito three days in a row and it is stinkin delicious! Not a bad glazed donut either! Coffee is hot and fresh in the wee hours of the morning and it was a perfect little walk from where I stayed. The help there is super friendly! Love this place! read more

If you're in Catalina looking for some good ol' hometown cookin', try Original Jack's Country Kitchen & Bake Shop. Rode my bike down to this restaurant one morning and had breakfast here. We have eaten at jacks many times for breakfast. Went to the to go bakery and tried the breakfast burrito and it is the best I have ever had. Filled with egg, bacon, sausage , ham, hash browns, cheese and salsa. Loaded! So good I went back the next day for another one. Five star! read more

Great breakfast/diner type fare restaurant. it is very busy so be prepared to wait if you go at peak times. Excellent service and your meals come very quickly! Homemade biscuits - definitely would recommend! Menu has many options from pancakes, waffles to omelets and other egg dishes. We used to frequent the Pancake Cottage but they have the worse service and takes forever to get your meal! Go to Jack's instead - you will be very happy! read more

Simple shop. There was no seating in the bakeshop portion of the store, but there were benches right outside where you could take any treats..OR you could make the quick walk to the beach and enjoy there. When I was there, there wasn't the largest selection, but it was later in the day, so they might have sold lots of good throughout the day. The man behind the counter was friendly and at $1.50 for a giant cookie, I thought it was quite the bargain. They also have a selection of different drinks and I thought my Kona iced coffee was refreshing on a bright and sunny day. This has to be the best place to eat on the island! Not only is the food rich and flavorful and at a great price, the customer service is AMAZING!!! Everyone is attentive and full of personality. Worst restaurant experience in my life. The waiter was incompetent and the manager rude to the point of entirely disrespectful. No idea how they manage to retain customers with service like this. And the food wasn't even remotely worth the hassle. I will definitely not be returning. I have never had an experience quite like it anywhere else on Avalon. Maybe it's more of a locals place? Because any tourist who dines here may very well be tempted never to return to the island again. It ruined my day. read more

This place was alright. Just wanted to stop by for a coffee and pastry shop, and this place did its job. Lattes and cappuccinos were decent. I also had the chocolate chip cookie, which wasn't anything special. They have spectacular location -- right smack dab in the middle of downtown. This place was absolutely amazing. Was eyeing this place while I spent a weekend getaway with my boyfriend this past weekend. Finally tried it on our last day. Always had a line, and looked like a good ol' breakfast diner, so we had to try. Was thinking the wait would be forever, but we were seated in about 10 minutes. Workers were friendly, but most importantly, the food was to die for. I ordered the French Toast combo, which is made with some Portuguese sweet bread, which I've never had before. But it was so good! I got the bacon, and scrambled eggs on side. Boyfriend got combo that came with the sliced ham, hashbrowns, and eggs. We also split the biscuits and gravy. Everything was perfect. Yum! better than I expected. I got a glazed twist, bf got a long john with raspberry filling. We both loved our donuts! The twist was so soft and moist and delicious!!! Awesome. Friendly attentive service, many types of Benedicts (I had crab Benedict, it was top notch). Girlfriend had a french toast special, which was delicious and came with coconut syrup (amazing, but they also have regular). Only disappointing part was the side of fried chicken strips. They were also very nicely cooked, maybe perfectly, but I don't like fried chicken strips. Can't really fault them for that. I shouldn't have ordered them. I was pretty hungry.
