Great, no frills, bbq joint! In a strip mall, this unassuming restaurant actually smokes it's meat on premises, and serves it up in generous portions at a very reasonable price. The dining room is under-decorated, to say the least, but is clean and functional. Place your order at the front, and prepare for a feast when the food is presented at your table. My rib tips lunch plate consisted of at least a pound of meaty rib tips, with two sides plus cornbread plus wheat bread and a tangy bbq sauce on the side. I have too many bad memories or pork steaks from backyard BBQers' overcooked and oversauced results. Ms. Piggies offered a somewhat better alternative--a nicely smoked, large piece of pork that was flavorful from brining or a healthy mix of dry rub. It was served without sauce--a good choice since the house sauce is very sweet. For a cut that's typically fatty the steak had little fat. Or, the fat had been cooked out. That meant the more I got into the steak the tougher and dryer it became. The lunch pork steak "sandwich" (that bone could be a challenge and the spongy white bread was simply inedible) came with a side. I chose collard greens, which were good. This was terrible. They did not fully cook the pork. They did not put all of my order in my bag. This was a pure waste of my valuable time. But I'm a kind soul. So I got my husband to take me back for a retry. Second opportunities I like them because. Anyone can have a off day. Called in my order. Again the pork was under cooked. Local BBQ joint that kicks some bbq butt!!! I'm here on a biz trip for the week and someone mentioned this place to me plus it wasn't far from where I was working. It's in a strip mall and there is nothing fancy, trendy or chain restaurant looking on the inside. You can walk in and order to go or you'll be seated and menu brought out to you. Callie (spelling?!?) greeted me with a big smile and friendly attitude! There are a couple of tv's so you can stare off at them in a trance from the intoxicating smell of bbq wafting through the air! She said everything on the menu was delish but the catfish is must try if you are a catfish fan and that I am!! You can either get catfish fillets or strips. I ordered the fillets and sides of french fried and cold slaw. The slaw tasted great but was just a tad too creamy for me, personal preference only. The fries were crisp and has some seasoning on them....tasty! Now the catfish...amazing!!! Light cornmeal coating and fried perfectly!!! So good. If you you dig catfish...you should be in heaven with this!!! SO...this place was so yummy...I can back again for lunch today and ordered a full slab or baby back ribs! They have two sauces....mild and spicy. You can get it on the ribs or on the side. I ordered the spicy on the side so I could taste the ribs with the dry rub alone first. Meat of course, fell right off the bone and was amazing dry and with the bbq sauce. It's not too spicy where you are going to die and it's a thicker sauce. I came here again to see if my first review still holds up. I again had the pork steak and it was still tender and had a mild heat to the sauce. I did not try the potato salad this trip but the coleslaw was still as good as I remembered it. The service is somewhat lacking but the food will make up for the lack of service. It is just not often that we are on Page at lunch time so don't get to Ms Piggies as often as we should. As I have written before, I have maintained that St Louis does not have a long standing traditional barbecue style. Lately it has developed what I call competition barbecue style now that it is a rage. I find Ms Piggies probably carries some old soulful traditions more than the new hot places. We ordered turkey and a half rack of ribs with slaw. I only needed the turkey but really wanted to re-sample their ribs. The turkey was good. It was moist with mild smoke. My only comment is that strikes me a little like deli turkey. It certainly is not smoked on the bone. The ribs were also good, with very mild smoke and a pleasant mild rub and enough salt. These impressed me as being oven ribs after being introduced to some smoke. Perhaps it is an electric smoker. These are all about the rib meat with good pork flavor and not about the rub. I order without sauce. I recommend getting the sauce on the side if you must have some. Good barbecue does not need to have sauce ladled over it. I'm not sure how to compliment the ribs without making it sound left-handed. I enjoyed the good porky flavor, proper salt, moisture and tenderness without being mush. I prefer more of a pit smoked and finished ribs, but these are enjoyable. We like that we get American Airlines miles for dining here. I need to stop here more often instead of driving past when bound for Durango. read more

It pains me to do this rereview. This was one of my favorite places for lunch. There was a point where I was going several times per week. The last few times it's progressively been worse with quality or inaccuracies which is understandable in this trying time. However, today was the nail in the coffin. Call my order in and was put on hold for some time (pretty regular occurrence lately). I order my food and they told me 10-15 minutes. I show up and sit in the parking lot for 40 minutes waiting on an order of a single sandwich, cornbread, and green beans. I was in turn late returning to work with no time to eat my food upon my return. I logged out for break and open the container and my order was wrong ‍‍. I understand the pandemic. I love Ms. Piggies Smokehouse! I've been trying to convince my friend to try it but the name seems to throw him off... I used to eat the ribs which are delectable! I recently have had their beef hot link and their 1/2 chicken which is also delicious and a plus for them as many bbq places don't sell chicken unless it's pulled chicken! Ms. Piggies also has scrumptious sides. I love the greens. I normally eat cornbread with my greens but here I eat them separately because they're both sooo good. Their potato salad reminds me of back in the day and they have pretty good yams. I've yet to taste their black eyed peas but look forward to them if I can stop getting the sides I named above. Lol. I am floored at how amazing the food is!! There has to be somebody's grandma in the kitchen with "fat elbows" picking greens and stirring pots! I ordered the ribs and jumbo pork steak meals with yams and potato salad for my family and oh boy was it GOOD!! Now when it comes to potato salad, you have to be selective. Ms Piggies absolutely killed it, just enough mustard and pickle with a dab of sweetness. They are offering curbside, and I must say they have also delivered on how to execute this as well. I wish I could give 0 stars. Let's start with the service: our food took what seemed to be an unusually long time, which I could live with. However, my food was brought to me at least 10 minutes before my husband's meal came out. So I had to eat before it got cold, while he sat and watched. On top of that, not once did the server come by to ask how we were doing, now were we asked if everything was good when we checked out. The food was much more than a major disappointment. I ordered a turkey platter with greens, yams, and cornbread. The greens were definitely canned, they didn't so much as doctor them before serving. The yams tasted like a ton of sugar had been dumped in a pot of canned yams, and then served. The turkey was actually a processed turkey breast (disgusting) and tasted like it had been soaked in salt to say the least. The corn bread was the best item on the plate, and it tasted like cake. I was treated to lunch by two of my favorite cousins! They took me to #ms_piggies_smokehouse today and I had a meal I love and cannot often find: LOADED BBQ Baked Potato! I started eating them at Dickey's BBQ when I lived and worked in Dallas, TX (2001-ish). When I moved to Phoenix in 2009, my friends aunt made them for friends and family and hers were AMAZING! That Pork Steak was so delicious, it is a sweet pork with nice smoke flavor to it, that just enhances the meat. It was like eating ham and BBQ pork must have been the cut I got. The Pork Steak was a whopping 32 ounces and the BBQ sauce that comes with all so good. The sauce was not to sweet and complemented the sweet smoked pork very well. I had fried corn on the cob and it was savory with great flavors no butter or salt needed. Some of the best corn bread I ever had. You can tell this was not jiffey, this corn bread, this was way better and super good, I could have ate that all by itself. I ordered a rib tips platter, and while I appreciated the generous portions, a lot of the meat was tough and hard to eat. I only got about halfway through. The green beans were also extremely salty. I think the primary saving grace was the cornbread, which I enjoyed in between bites of the meat and green beans. This is a pretty unassuming take-out place on page, the sign in front of the door just says "BBQ" in big letters. About a year back they bought out the bar stool shop next door expanded from just being strictly a takeout place to having a full dining room. The majority of the customers still do take-out, and the dining room sits nearly empty every time I am there. The dining room is actually very nice, surprisingly modern with a couple of big-screen TV's hanging and showing sports. Ms. Piggies typically has all-you-can eat specials during big sporting events, but you may want to call ahead and ask. The food is the star, and man is it good... no wonder is is in business being were it is. I have tried just about all of their items at some point and none have disappointed. The pulled pork is juicy well done, with just the right amount of sauce. The beef brisket and rib tips (my favorites) are always just perfect. Portions are huge, prices are cheap. Sides are good: the cole slaw tastes like it is home made, very creamy. Fries are thick and well seasoned. Green beans are good. Really, everything tasty. Cons? Well, if you are a Bandana's fan of the multitudes of sauces.. well, they have just one. The service for dine-in can be a little slow, especially when people are getting carryout.
