This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I'd had in a long time. I was on vacation in Columbus back in February and decided to take a quick bus trip down to Cincinnati. After a day at the museum with my college bud, we decided to walk through the neighborhood and stumbled upon this pub. FROM JUMP, the service was terrible. We walked in the doorway, were not greeted or anything. Finally a waitress comes by and I asked if we seat ourselves. She seated us and then the waiting began...we waited and waited. I then walked right up to the bar (we were seated directly across from it) and asked if we could get service. The gentleman let me know someone would be right with us. He mentioned it to the lady that originally sat us and she said something to the effect of "this is so-and-so's section, I'll get her." Meanwhile, I'm parched and literally just wanted a beer, I know it wasn't her or his section, but SOMEONE, anyone could've at least taken our drink orders to "get the party started." They didn't seem to want our business. Finally the waitress who was supposed to be waiting on us comes up to take our orders. I ordered the salmon salad and a side of soup. The portions were small, nothing to write home about, but not terrible. The salmon could've used some seasoning. My pal ordered a sandwich. I had 2 beers and we called it a day. All in all, I wouldn't return simply because of the service. This experience stuck out so poorly in my head that I even think about it a couple months later. You should make your customers feel like you appreciate their business, not like we're a nuisance. read more

This place is a hot mess, or at least it was the night we attempted to eat there. We had a (embarrassingly early) 5:15 reservation on a Sunday night. A Sunday! By 6:20 we had nursed one round of drinks for over an hour -- appetizers ordered but not received, dinner nowhere in sight, no server checking back for a second round of drinks. We finally receive our two appetizers and were told the kitchen was "very backed up". At 6:35 we asked for our check as we were rushing to a 7:00 performance. Again we were told the kitchen was backed up with very little apology. We paid for our drinks and sprinted from the back room where we were seated to get to our show. The place was empty. We'll never attempt to eat at Mt. Adams Bar & Grill again and I'll be sure to share this experience with everyone I know. read more

One of my favorite low key restaurants in Mt. Adams. Great for gatherings of all sorts, family, friends, and even dates. The bar reminds me of an older 20th Century speakeasy. Its no wonder because, Mt. Adams Bar and Grill in its present location was the first drinking establishment in Ohio to obtain a liquor license after the repeal of Prohibition. The menu features general American fare (lots of meat not to many vegetarian options). The portions are generally decent, as well as the prices (especially for Mt. Adams). I particularly like pulling up to the bar and eating when I'm rolling solo. Its a great place to make a quick meal time friend. Or your can sit at a table or booth with friends for some more privacy. Remember it can get pretty busy in Mt. Adams on the weekend, so it may be worth making a reservation and taking a cab if possible to avoid the Mt. Adams weekend madness. read more

I was really disappointed. I went here for dinner and drinks for a friend's birthday, and both were a let down. As an appetizer the group ordered the banger sandwiches. We were already tipped off that they weren't actual bangers since the menu specified that they use Italian sausage. They came in bits of croissant. As the 6 size serving option, they didn't even use 2 sausage links since each serving had a quarter of a sausage. Couldn't believe they were $8. I then ordered the Greek salad with dressing on the side. Good thing because I wasn't expecting balsamic vinegar! My salad was also missing ingredients. As a medium sized salad with small scoops of hummus and tabouli and half a pita, I couldn't believe they charged $10 for this signature dish. You could add chicken but for $4!!! At least the hummus and tabouli tasted good. For a drink I ordered the Milk Chocolate Martini. I was especially interested in that because it was supposed to have vanilla ice cream. While I expected a creamy drink, I got a strong martini with chunks of ice. Finally the serving staff only seemed to be around in the beginning and when she kept asking if we'd like to order more things. We waited over 5 minutes originally to order food and there was only one other table there. Advice: stick to beers and burgers here. You might get better service at the bar. read more

The Mount Adams Bar and Grill is a capable contender for best, casual American food on the hill. I lived the life of a bachelor for a season in Mt. Adams, and often found myself ordering from here when I was too lazy to cook. The restaurant's interior looks like most Irish-esque pubs but manages to pull off style and personality rather than kitsch. Part of its charm is the location, on the top of the hill. The other part is that the dining area is partitioned into three smaller spaces, promoting an intimacy that isn't normally felt in otherwise loud pubs. The building's history -- it was formerly a speakeasy during prohibition and received Ohio's first alcohol license post-prohibition -- lends even further authenticity to the current restaurant. You can almost taste the belligerent, alcoholic ghosts in the air. Its menu is diverse, catering to all tastes. I prefer the Turkey Reuben and the Famous Burger (basically, their regular burger with salsa). The food quality isn't particularly noteworthy and I've ordered frequently enough that I can say that there are sporadic instances when the food is poorly-prepared. But, on a whole, the Bar & Grill's fare is hearty and tasty enough. Although I love Mt. Adams Bar & Grill, there are handful of other restaurants to try if you're not a Mt. Adams resident. If you live in the area, this restaurant can definitely be a spot you visit regularly. read more

The Mt. Adams Bar and Grill, like a lot of other Cincinnati staples, has an interesting history. Apparently it was founded by a bootlegger during the height of Prohibition who spent over $20,000,000 in bribes to keep local cops and prosecutors off his case. And while this might have worked for the locals he didn't have the same type of luck with the feds. This bootlegger, named George Remus apparently gave his entire diamond collection to his wife before the government had a chance to put him on trial. His wife promptly filed for divorce, which didn't sit too well with Remus, seeing as he tracked her down just two hours before his trail and murdered her. He ended up pleading guilty by insanity, spent three months in a state mental hospital, and was released and lived the rest of his life a free man. How many husbands fantasize about that? Anyway, I popped into here a while back. I was having a meeting with a couple of my students and they suggested making it a working dinner. I wasn't really feeling that idea, but when they offered to pay, well why not. So we got there and walk in. Honestly, I couldn't really tell you about décor, or the staff, or the atmosphere. All I could really tell you is that all my muscles were sore, my knees, lower back, ankles and every other joint and bone that I know of were in all kinds of pain, I could barely take a breath, my head was pounding, my head was on fire while I was sweating buckets (despite it being pretty chilly outside), and I spent the entire time trying to get the room to stop spinning. Oh, and the booth we were sitting in was extremely uncomfortable. Little did I know that at the time I had pneumonia. That could explain why I don't really remember much about our visit. There is one thing I do remember, though. And that would be the meal. I ordered the Reuben. And it was really good. So much so that it made me forget how awful I was feeling. It was so good I actually ordered another one to go. If a place makes a Reuben sandwich that can make a guy with pneumonia forgot all about the symptoms that's making him miserable, well that's a good, friggin' sandwich. Came in for St Patty's Day lunch before heading out on the town. I had the fried fish sandwich and my friend had the grilled mahi. I have to say I loved her sandwich and mine was just okay. My fried sandwich came on toasted bread while my friends came on a bun and my fish was very thin... I was hoping for a thick piece of fish. I also didn't like the breading on my sandwich. Came back a couple weeks later and fell in love with the chicken buddies. I should have tried the chicken sandwich the first visit. My drink on St Patty's Day was a Jameson and Ginger. I was here a few weeks ago on a bitterly cold Monday. I was with a few fine folks and came on a whim - we were looking for a decent happy hour before heading over to the Art Museum. First we picked a table in the back, but switched to the bar after determining that our server wasn't any fun. Okay, so maybe I am expecting a lot, but as a bloody mary connoisseur, when I ask my server to describe their bloody mary to me...well, that is their moment to woo me! I want to be wooed! Make me believe this is the best damn bloody mary in town! When the reply is, "Uh, it's made with Zing Zang?" well, then I have not been wooed properly. Hardly impressive. SO...anyway...I realize I am hard to please on that front, so I won't hold it against my server. Unfortunately for them, we moved to the bar. We stayed for a couple drinks - the happy hour special is fifty cents off per drink, nothing spectacular, but my friend was very pleased with his $5 grey goose on the rocks with lemon. Not too bad. I also had the Mediterranean Plate, one of the veg options, which was pretty standard but a good value and pretty tasty. The best thing this place has going for it is it's location - great views of the streets, nice for people watching, and in a very picturesque neighborhood. While, I wouldn't be opposed to returning, I might be more inclined to try some other spots in Mt. Adams. read more

I love the atmosphere at Mt. Adams Bar & Grill! There are actually 2 different types of atmospheres here. One being an eclectic, historic bar and a cottage feel in the back with lots of light streaming in from the large windows on 2 sides. The food is what you'd expect at a bar, but a couple notches above in quality. Great appetizers like veggie plate with ranch, mediterranean plate and chicken buddies with interesting dipping sauces. Great burgers (turkey and veggie included), french onion chicken sandwich and ham and cheese melt...add egg! Don't forget to order cheese and ranch dressing for your extra crunchy french fries folks! My guest preferred ranch, so we had both for dipping. For lunch, I had the mahi mahi sandwich. At first the fillet looked small, but it was deceiving. It was served with lettuce, onion, tomato and a spread, a side of chips and cottage cheese, due to its being one of the lower fat and calorie menu options. My guest had a cheeseburger, which he said was good enough. It was decent sized and the price was right $4. I was a little disappointed with the iced tea, given that it was tea with little to no ice. I didn't ask if there was a particular issue with ice; maybe the tea had just been brewed. The restrooms are downstairs, which might be a feat after having a few beers given they're pretty steep. Mt. Adams Bar is a great place to catch up with friends and grab a drink. I tend to go here with folks who need to meet at a half way between NKY and Cincinnati. The architecture of the bar is bold and turn-of-the-century, with plenty of nostalgia on the walls. There is a large menu of bar food, which in comparison to other bar food, is quite tasty. I usually enjoy eccentric meals, so this isn't a place I'd frequent for its cuisine. The Reuben was one of the best things I've had here, and it was similar to most other Reubens. The burgers were okay; a little pricey and small. I've also had the Mediterranean plate. The mixed drinks are up to par and service has always been attentive and exemplary. Food will easily cost you $10 - $15 before drinks if you come with an appetite. Mt. Adams Bar is a unique place for a drink with a young professional crowd. Make sure you have some extra dough to spend while you're here though, it's easy to rack up a bill while having a good time. read more

Admission: I only go to Mt. Adam's Bar & Grill on St. Patricks Day, when my husband's very Irish family reserves the patio room and we have a luncheon. It's a very busy, very crowded affair, with people happily talking and sharing photos of the family, not paying attention to their server, etc. The food to me, is typical bar food, with a rather extensive menu, it can be overwhelming just trying to wade through it. I always end up with the Reuben--it's good and easy and I don't have to think much! The fries leave a bit to be desired, but that's just because they seem like frozen food service fries. Our servers are always pleasant, and it must be tough becasue people keep table hopping to visit other family members, and children are running all over the place, but for the last 4 years, they've always managed to smile and work as efficiently as our group will allow. I do think that for lunch, 2 Reubens, one child's grilled cheese, 2 harps, and 2 Guinness for $52.00 (without tip) is a considerable expense, but it's Mt. Adams and it's once a year--the one day a year I don't mind dropping a ton of money on beer! read more

Disappointed by the fact that Yesterday's doesn't serve any food, we decided to check out Mt. Adams Bar & Grill. My friend said that it's a place with American food, and not expensive, for Mount Adams. That's exactly what we got - American food. And man was it tasty! I had the cheeseburger with fries and mayonnaise (once a Belgian, always a Belgian...) and really enjoyed it. The cheeseburger just literally was a hamburger with cheese, but I didn't mind as I don't think lettuce or tomatoes or any other veggies would add anything to it. The fries were not manually made but really good anyway - nice gold color. Four stars for the nice atmosphere in the bar and the historic feel of the place. A nice first experience here. read more
