He suffers from seasonal skin allergies, so I wanted to treat the problem quickly before it made his skin irritation worse. When I picked him up, I was told that no fleas were found during the appointment, which was surprising since I had already found fleas on him earlier that week. After bringing him home, I found fleas on him again the very same day. I reached out by email to ask how this could have happened and to better understand the treatment process, but I never received a response. That lack of communication was the most disappointing part of my experience. When it comes to the health and well-being of our pets, customers deserve clear answers and timely follow-up. She has years of experience and listens carefully to what you want. My rambunctious pup doesn't sit still but came out of there with no cuts, and seemed completely happy. He was not shaking or traumatized, at all -- and even ran back to give Mitzi some doggy kisses. The only reason why she doesn't get 5 stars, is because it is such a small place. She is the only one that works here, so sometimes she won't be able to answer the phone while she's bathing, blow drying, or giving a dog a haircut. Leave a message, she'll get back to you. I book all my appointments and we do all our communicating over text so it's super convenient for me and I think she charges a fair amount, especially for the Austin area. She works alone so she keeps the door locked but I don't see an issue with that at all. A few reviews on here saying she is rude seems unimaginable to me but I'm sure she just doesn't deal with non-sense. I've always had a great experience here and will keep coming back!

Even at the vet he needed medication before visits. But with Jeff, he never had an issue. My wife and I have been taking our dogs to Dena for grooming and boarding since 2009, and she has been a paragon of high-quality treatment and customer service the whole time. We have a Lhasa Apso that we like keeping short, so we have to take her in fairly often so that her hair doesn't get in her face. Dena is always super-flexible and accommodating when it comes to schedule requests, and our dog always looks cute and clean! On top of that, her boarding rates can't be beat! She convinced us to begin bringing our dogs there for boarding. We had been taking them to a high-volume facility VERY close to our apartment, so she told us about her lower rates hoping that they would make up for the extra distance. They definitely have and more! Our dog definitely appreciates the homey atmosphere and the individual attention she receives. We will be customers of Sweetie Pooch as long as we are in the Austin area. Heck, we think it's worth it to make the drive from Georgetown! Highly recommended!

I have had a few issues. First, I agree with the other…read morereviewer on the timing. The groomer (Dena) makes such a big deal how she only takes so many dogs a day to groom making her sound better than a Petco or Petsmart groomer, but maybe she needs to take on maybe just two dogs a day or something. I have also have taken my dog in the early morning and had to call to ask when he would be ready. She would give a lot later time than what she initially told me and that is if I got a hold of her. For example, I bring him in at 9:30am and she says he should be ready by 3pm. Then when I call, she says 4:30. I come at 4:30 and she is still working on him. I sit in her house for another 20-30 minutes waiting for my dog to be finished. That is too long in my opinion. My next issue is being pressured. It may only be me, but every time I was there I was constantly pressured. Pressured to buy certain grooming tools to groom my dog myself in between grooming sessions, pressured to bring him in more frequently, pressured to learn specific grooming techniques to groom my own dog, etc. I really felt uncomfortable going there. I LOVE my dog, but I am not a professional groomer and if I wanted to be, that would be my job. Another issue was pricing. It started out in a reasonable range around $65. The second time was increasing to $75 and the third time my dog was groomed it was around $90 (and that was with $20 off!). She was gradually increasing it and I wasn't about to be spending close to $100 for a grooming. The last was the worst. His hair was still really long. The cut didn't even last a month. I was very upset since it cost me so much. She also did a lot of carting and fancy work on him as if he was a show dog. He is a rescue and DOES NOT need a lot of fancy work to just be running around the house and on his daily walks. I have also had her watch my dog when we have gone out of town. The star is for her house sitting. She does a wonderful job watching him. I would of liked more communication from her and/or pictures on how he was doing. My only complaints with the pet sitting was that she charges for the day if you don't pick up before 3pm. I think that if I pick the dog before 6 or even 7pm than I shouldn't be charged for the day. That is more of personal thing. The other complaint would be she required for him to be bathed the day before I brought him or otherwise she would and she would charge me for it. She wasn't even going to mention it to me until I asked about the pricing of the pet sitting. I was not happy that she said she automatically does baths and charges it as an add on. Umm..no I can bath him for free or less than $10 at Petco. But I obliged anyways. Unfortunately, our disagreements on the grooming, as well as her lack of empathy and sympathy of my experiences, left me no choice but to change groomers. I had heard horrible things about taking dogs to Petco/Petsmart groomers and was trying to stay away from that. However, the rescue I got the dog from had several people that recommended them. I tried Petco out and LOVED it. I, as well as my dog, had a way better experience. Found my new groomer. Success!

I didn't want to write this review because Rosemary was so kind by taking my dog in for a next-day grooming appointment. It was clear she was happy to welcome a new customer, and I was grateful and in need. But the problem is Wxxxxxx. I'm angry at myself because I KNEW, two seconds after meeting the groomer -- with the I-just-got-out-of-bed hair, and horrible bedside manner -- I KNEW this groomer wasn't going to do a good job. Wxxxxxx had ZERO pleasantness about him when we met. No cordial greeting. No "Hi, little doggie!" He was like an emotionless teen flipping burgers unwillingly at a fast-food joint. As soon as I walked in the door, he grabbed my dog's leash like it was the next thing on the assembly line; I felt like he was just performing a task, not caring about giving a good experience. I tried to strike up a conversation and dive into expectations. He seemed like he could not care less. He had a vibe of "I know what to do, and I'm gonna do it like I do it." (Me: Don't you want to TALK to me to learn more about this picture of how I want her cut? No? I guess you know my type of dog, huh?) But, I internally scolded myself for judging a book by it's cover. I talked myself out of my gut feelings, knowing that pre-judging people is wrong. When I got my dog back, I realized I should have listened to my instincts. That man has no business doing anything with a dog other than petting them. (Because he clearly has not mastered the art of grooming to where he should be paid for it.) My poor sheepadoodle was returned severely uneven and misshapen. I've never groomed a dog before, but I'm willing to wager that on my first try I could have fared better. There were huge CHUNKS of uneven fur cut down to the skin (see rear leg pics and,) and other areas where it's clear that the groomer did not know how to cut evenly. (Look at the jawline and neck pics.) And, although I paid for a full groom, it didn't appear that they cut any hair from the ears, paws, or underbelly at ALL. Not only was I paying for a horrible cut, I was paying for an INCOMPLETE job. (Note that they make you pay before they bring your dog out, so you don't see the final result until after you pay.) When I was given a chance to inspect the cut, I restrained myelf, partly because both Wxxxxxx and Rosemary were presenting my dog to me and bracing for me to explode, and partly because I didn't want to cause a scene in front of Wxxxxxx. (What if Wxxxxxx has special needs or this was his first day and this represented his best work?) I initially opted to just let it go, and left. I was wrong for that. But as I was driving home, (and after my wife saw the huge chunks of exposed skin and uneven hairline,) I had to call back and ask Rosemary for a redo. To their credit, they gladly took my dog back and schedule me with a different groomer the next day. I brought my dog back the next day and a different groomer tried to fix the mess Wxxxxxx made. The day after THAT, I noticed the scars from blade scrapes on my dogs belly. (see pics.) That's when I realized I wouldn't return to Dirty Dog. I didn't want to write this review. Dirty Dog is a local business, and I prefer to support local businesses, especially those who seem to have kind owner/operators (like Rosemary) who are trying to be involved in their community and serve others through their work. And, I suppose I should have known better than to seek grooming at a place that is primarily known for offering self-washing services. Lesson learned on my part. But it's important that Dirty Dog knows (and comes to terms with the reality) that Wxxxxxx is not only bad for business, he is dangerously close to causing injury to an animal. I'm sure he's a good person overall, and probably does lots of things well -- But grooming dogs is not one of them. Dirty Dog would be well-served to find another way he can serve without being near animals with sharp objects.

During the holidays, when its so hard to get a grooming appt, I called them an was glad to hear they could come out much sooner than taking the dogs to our usual groomer. I canceled that appt and told MC that I canceled our standing appt to try them! The day they are to arrive, they never show. I called and called, no answer. Then finally a text, she's lost, then 30 more min, she's run out of gas? And hour later, she's got a flat tire?! Seriously? I was furious. We finally rescheduled for later that week, I had to reschedule, but before I did I asked if we could for sure still get IN that week and she said YES. Never heard from them again. Bottom line: if you live in Central Austin they are probably fine. However, they advertised in the local Dripping Springs paper that they NOW service our area. They DON'T. They don't know the area. We live in a GATED subdivision with nicely paved streets and she never asked me when setting up the appt where we were or whether or not we were on a dirt road, but She then used that as her excuse later. If you live out here there are much better more professional groomers. Hill Country Pet Resort and Just Four Paws. Don't get left hanging with dirty ungroomed dogs at the last minute. You cannot count on Muttley Crew.
