We order the fried calamari, clam strips, lobster mac and cheese, shore fries, and crab "fluff". The calamari was very good. An order of uniform sized rings (none of those creepy tentacle clusters. Blech!) fried just right with that delightfully chewy (not rubbery) texture. The clam strips had just a bit too much batter and were fried just a little too hard, so it was very difficult to taste the clam. The lobster mac and cheese was too salty and I was barely able to taste the lobster. Wouldn't order that again. The shore fries, on the other hand, were the Holy Grail of cheese fries. Two types of cheeses, including a rich cheese sauce, covered in crabmeat and then sprinkled with Old Bay... ooooh my goodness! If I'd known they would be that good, I would have order them by themselves. The crab "fluff" was basically a deep fried crab cake, and there was absolutely nothing fluffy about it. Once you got through the firm fried crust, it was actually pretty good, but I think it would have been more delicious either baked, or lightly fried. The bartender was really sweet and very friendly, but not that attentive. She spent most of her time at the far end of the bar flirting with the regulars. The food made up for the cruddy service. We were told it would be a half hour wait, gave our phone number and went to talk to board walk, not even 5 minutes later we got a text that our table was ready, great, now we walked back and we were seated. It took 10 minute till someone acknowledged us and then another 5-7 minutes till they got our drink order. The food service was also slow. The food was delicious my fiancé got the snow crab legs there were kind of sad $35. And my mom and I shared the middle tier steak pot. I had a good experience eating outside at Mug & Mallet! My friend and I both had snow crab legs which were $35 for a pound (and corn), the rest of the group had fish tacos, the crab cake sandwich, and a burger, and we all had crab dip and drinks. Service was fast and we weren't rushed at all. It's still more of boardwalk quality food experience, so this won't replace your fancy down the shore seafood meal, but it's a great option for a more casual night. read more

The Steamers Delight was perfect. We are not from the area and never really did the mallet and crab thing. We'll, it was so fun. Crowded so we sat at the bar, which btw is the way to do it in OCMD, and the bartender became our best friend. She was GREAT! My son and I dined at Mug and Mallet on the boardwalk, 109 N Atlantic Ave Friday night and became ill within 20 minutes of leaving the restaurant. Our experience ruined our night and both feel lethargic this morning after our night of food poisoning. We both ate the exact same meal. We had the Crab Dip and the Super Steamer. Here is a bullet point list of what we were served: Crab Dip: mostly a cheesy spread with hardly any crab, served with pretzel pieces. Poor quality, but passable for boardwalk food. Clams; small and several were unopened and we had to throw away. Crabs: extremely small, a few even measuring about 3 1/2 Inches across.... they should have been thrown back in the bay.... many water logged. Snow crab: small and lightweight. All of the seafood that was miniature in size was hidden underneath, so speaking to the server wouldn't have made a difference as we had worked our way partially through the meal. We had already decided not to come back, the food poisoning and the rotten corn was the final straw- as evidenced in the pictures. I was so disgusted by the corn, and was starting not to feel well, I absolutely would have consulted with a manger if there was anyone making rounds that seemed as if they were keeping the restaurant moving. In fact, when my son and I were leaving, the three young ladies at the hostess stand were talking about a negative review that was just left...speaks volumes as to what we experienced and our subsequent food poisoning. I would ask the owner, Shannon Tippett to contact me or make her email address available so I would be able to discuss the matter further. I understand the gravity of leaving a poor review and how it can impact a business, however, my son and I walked away ill and it ruined the start of our vacation and I paid $133.61 plus gratuity for food that tasted like it would be at a $10.00 buffet. I had not had a soft shell crab sandwich in about 20 year's and really looked forward to enjoy one and even bought one for my brother and after getting home to eat it, I was shocked to see that I spent almost $18.00 each for some sorry looking micro-crab. So I was going to give a 3 after the incident that happened, but after Shannon the supposed owner and manager made rude comment to me; I have to give it one star. I'm a single mom and my child and I were seated quickly at 6:34. We waited 15 minutes before a server came. He took our order for drinks and food which was 1/2 dozen crabs, calamari, and two soft drinks. We had waited about 25-30 minutes for food to come and being that it was already about 7:20 we were eating quickly. When my child informed me they needed to use the bathroom, I had let our waiter know we would be right back. We were gone all of 4 minutes in the tiniest bathroom ever with no soap to wash your hands nor a working dryer to dry them. As we walked back our table was cleared. Still 3/4 full soft drinks, the 3 crabs and 1/2 basket of calamari. When I finally found our waiter it was already 7:35 and seriously was so annoyed at the fact that our food was gone and drinks, I just wanted to leave. I would of been fine if 40% of the tab was taken off since I had informed them that I was in a hotel room with no table. How am I suppose to eat crabs in a hotel room? Seriously??? Who wants crabs in their bed? Anyways the waiter was nice and stated he didn't really know what to do but to redo the whole order (excluding the $3 soft drink....) and I asked if we could speak to a manager then. Here she comes with her nasty attitude smacking her lips. I stated that I had informed our waiter that we would be back and our table was cleaned. I was staying in a hotel with only bed and that we actually needed to get going so I didn't have time to eat the crabs there. Nothing but the rudest tone of "Your crabs will be out in 30s. You have time to eat them." I'm sorry but you do not talk to a customer like that. She saw I had a small child with me and it was not 30s when the crabs came out it was another 15 minutes which if our table had not been cleared we would of been finished eating. I honestly was half tempted to just walk out without paying anything since my food was removed before the bill even came. Even the women at the table across from mine became irritated at this whole thing. It took everything I had to bit my tongue there because other people were eating with their children. I will never return here again though. And if she talked to me in that demeaning tone, i feel sorry for the staff there working. On top of all that the crabs weren't even the best. The food here was okay. We ordered a dozen blue crabs, 1lb of snow crab legs--which came with corn--for $25, fried calamari, and shore fries. The shore fries were good, but there was barely any crab, which was the main reason for wanting to get the fries. The calamari was good; crunchy and flavorful. The blue crabs were great; nice and heavy. However, the snow crab legs were extremely disappointing. They did not seem fresh at all. I would not recommend getting them. On the other hand, the corn was excellent..juicy and sweet. I liked tbe convenience of this place because it's right on the boardwalk and the service was great. However, there were too many flies. I bet if they removed the trash bins away from where people eat, there'd be a decrease in flies. Overall, I'd only go here for the convenient location. Got a half dozen crabs, five of six were missing their claws. What the heck. When I asked about the claws, magically the claws were found in the kitchen and brought to the table immediately. The explanation provided was "the guy in the back is new." How is that an explanation? Messing up blue crabs in MD is not ok. The other food we had (salads, Mac and cheese, fried cheese) was fine, no issues. The server was pleasant. The location is great right off the boardwalk. I gave them one extra star for the location. My husband and my son came along with me for dinner. My husband ordered one of the steamer pots. The crab legs were over cooked and mushy inside. I ordered the rockfish tacos and to be honest I couldn't help but laugh when I got them. They literally had one little rockfish nugget on them. The coleslaw was dry. Love the atmosphere, location, and seafood choices. This is the perfect place for grabbing seafood while at the beach, and they have great alternative options for those picky eaters in the family. Although the prices are high for this hole-in-the-wall, the food is a good quality. My biggest complaint would probably be that the prices for blue crabs are too high considering the amount you get and the size (medium at best). And I grew up on crabs so I know a good price for the quality and quantity you get. The appetizers were well priced, but were underwhelming, especially compared to other places further down the beach. I would not get the Lobster Mac, it is pricey and very, very tiny. The meat was good but quite tricky to get to. The crabs were also covered in a very salty dry rub. The shrimp were similar to the crab: soft and small. I lost patience peeling them, so I just started eating them with shells. The corn was sweet and white (likely from somewhere in the northeast such as NJ). All in all, the AYCE might be worthwhile if you have patience...and a mighty appetite. read more

Wife ordered a dozen crabs, which were not fresh and might have been dead long before they were cooked as some had the typically foam you will see coming from the crabs as they start to die from lack of water. Mustard was a dark green and not the normal yellow color, didn't even finish them and sent them back. I got the crab legs, shrimp with corn on the cobb, which again were frozen. The crab legs came out with frozen cold tops and water logged legs and the meat couldnt even be pulled out because it was in paste like form as if they had been soaking in water for hours. The shrimp was ice cold and no seasoning on either. They ended up discounting our meal 20 bucks off...with a $90 price tag you expect fresh seafood not frozen, specially when you are at the beach. Mug & Mallet's extensive menu was quite a disappointment. Regardless of Covid-19, I just don't think this place matches up to others on the boardwalk. The only menu items that were anywhere worth the price were the shore fries, and the fresh oysters. Everything else was a disappointment. The prices are so off. I ordered the soup of the day and it came in the smallest cup. The lobster Mac & cheese came in the same small cup and I thought it was a joke (pictures for reference). The lobster Mac & cheese is on the appetizer menu, when really it should be listed as a side. Appetizers are usually meant to share, and I finished the lobster Mac & cheese by myself in five bites. For $8, I thought it was a joke when they brought it out. The waitress was nice & attentive. Someone else in my party got the Maryland crab cakes, I tried them and they were delicious. Unfortunately the sides that come with it are lack luster and once again makes me question where they get their pricing from. If I was back in Ocean City I wouldn't come back here & I wouldn't recommend anyone else come here. read more
