We have been visiting this place for the Mumbai street food and have enjoyed the food every time. However, our recent experience is very bad. We visited them Sunday dinner time. Ordered Dabeli, Kotimbir Vadi, Malai matar paneer, Garlic Naan, Aloo Paratha. Though Dabeli seems okay, Rest of the order is pretty oily and not digestible. We both got vomitings once we reach home due to indigestion. We got stomach ache due to this. Not sure what ingredients they used. This is very disappointing for us. My husband and I visited Mumbai Chowk from Marin county on our way to LA. Totally worth the detour!! We ordered: vada pav, anda bhurji, paneer Frankie, chicken seekh kebab Frankie, rabdi kulfi. Being Mumbaites we went there with certain expectations and I am glad we did! Authentic Mumbai street food. This is the only place I have been to so far which offers Bombay duck fry but we could not order it since it was available only for weekend dinner. I feel over time it has become pricier compared to other restaurants. on my last 2 visits I noticed they charged 15% service charge and when the receipt comes after swiping card it asks for a tip again. In terms of customer service this place is by far one of the best that I have experienced. The owners/servers were very kind. They were always checking up on how we were doing (but didnt get annoying), reminded me about free refills on my chai tea, had good recommendations especially for my friend's trying Indian food for the first time. They also gave us the 15% off our bill without anyone of us reminding them. The place is clean, has lots of space, and is very welcoming. The owner told me that they have only been open for 5 months but I hope they get more business so they can stay. This is one of the best out there. Not only the service but the food too. I usually don't do reviews, but this place was FANTASTIC!!! The service was great, my girlfriend and I were treated with great hospitality. The food, was surprising, being both of us are very picky eaters everything we decided to order was delicious! The Chicken Tika Masala was very spicey just the way I like it, and the Chicken Malvani was as well. I highly recommend Mumbai Chowk to everyone I know or don't know. Nice to see an Indian restaurant with Mumbai food in Fremont. The food was good but not truly authentic Mumbai style, especially pav bhaji and vada pav. The naan and aloo gobi was good and perfectly spiced. They have both vegetarian and meat options but do not have the famous Mumbai style chaat dishes (bhel puri, pani puri etc.) The kulfi with rabdi was just okay with hardly any rabdi and very small portion size. So overall, my excitement of finding a Mumbai style food place was kinda dampened after we tried the food. Mumbai ki galiyon se in Artesia (Los Angeles) is much better and much more authentic Mumbaiya style. But this place is not bad...just Okay for me (I can cook better and more authentic Bombay food at home). read more

Tried them for the first time and with a takeout. Food was ok. Had malai kofta n malwani chicken. Very different preparation of kofta from a north indian perspective, was decent. Chicken was unusual, having never tried Konkani cuisine before not sure if it was at par but it didn't rock my boat. My husband liked it though. Update: After now going to this wonderful restaurant many more times - I've updated it to a five star! This is as good as it gets as far as awesome quality food goes. Highly recommend the delicious chicken seekh kebab frankie - yum! And the vegie bhiryani - also recommend the indo-chinese menu items. Just a great place, with authentic Mumbai food. We've had several visits to this quaintish restaurant over the past few months, the food is superb, and authentic. Especially try the sea food menu, the sukha shrimp was delicious. Unlike, other restaurants that just put the name of a region, but serve generic Indian food, this one actually serves dishes from the region, I.e. Mumbai. The only two things I like from here is the vada pav and frankie. Vada pav- bun/roll with a batter fried potato ball with onions and spicy chutney - amazing with chai/coffee. Like a potato burger. Simple but yummy Frankie- is basically a wrap- you can get meat or vegie options. I like mine with egg. I have noticed that filling is getting less. When they first opened- it would be stuffed to the max- now its like not even half. Its good but not the same I have tried the keema (okay)- biryani (bland)- tikka masala (not like real tikka masala- kinda watery?)- chinese dishes-( rice was okay but everything else was just not tasty)- Chaats( Papdi chat is good)- etc. Curries are least favorite. Would recommend more of the snack stuff. On a cold day(wait for it- almost here)- grab chai/coffee and eat the pakoras - vada pav- frankie- chaats. The combination of the rice and sauce was the perfect amount of spiciness. The girl working there was so helpful in helping us pick a dish. Recently got Togo from this place ... they just dumped all the hot naans basket order in to a paper brown bag with NO ALUMINUM FOIL. We stay few mins away only, by the time we came home and took it out, the brown bag was dripping wet and tore down making all the naans fall down .. Second the lady at the counter taking order is very rude and harsh to talk too, when asked about replacing plain naans with butter naans in the basket order, she just refused instantly even after offering the price difference (which was only 25 cents by the way) ... almost every restaurant I have been to customizes to accommodate customer unless it is a big deal ... read more

Stopped in for a quick snack - samosas and cut mirchi. Everything was super fresh and made-to-order, the service was friendly as always, but the snack items not as tasty as expected. Both the pastry dough on the samosa and the batter on the mirchi were lacking in flavor. I think I'll stick to ordering the true Mumbai snacks when eating here. Tried this on the spur of the moment tonight (I was on my way to the Mi Pueblo to buy tacos) and I'm glad I did! They were super friendly and had a broad menu of Indian food options (there are no descriptions, so if you don't know what you like you may need to ask). Lots of good stuff on the menu and the white board was full of specials. Chicken tikka is one of my favorite things, so I ordered one of the specials - a chicken tikka wrap and asked for it to go. They were very nice and offered me a drink while I waited. I had water and my wrap was up in under ten min. They did a good job. Other chicken tikka wraps I've had have too much sauce and get really soggy, but this was light on the sauce (heavy on the chicken :) and I didn't get messy at all eating it when I got home. The wrap had some fried potato (yum), chicken tikka, and onions. It was quite tasty. They have a frequent visitor card and if you buy 5 meals you get one free! I'll definitely be back! read more

The service was so friendly and the food got to the table lightning fast, it was delicious and reasonably priced. This place is perfect to come with anyone, its a very calming ambiance. The service deserves a 4.5. I found the food to be about a 3. The Naan is a liffle too fluffy and not crispy. I doesn't taste quite like it was made by sticking it to the side of a tandoori oven. The butter chicken is ok but not great. The Khati Roll was good. It didn't have the fried taste of a Indian street vendor and the food didn't have excellent flavor. We were still eating and the lady was insisting us to pay there and then , coz there were other people waiting to be seated . She was actually making us hurry to finish the food so that the tables can be vacant. I don't appreciate this behavior specially when you are a returning customer! Now won't come here again , want to go someplace where we are treated well ! They also added gratuity when there were only 2 people eating. I had been to this restaurant today & tried their vada PAv & paneer Frankie. Vada PAv - frozen vada heated in microwave sandwiched in Costco sweet buns(kills the taste) & with lot of hot chutney in between you won't be able to enjoy it. Paneer Frankie - cover was too oily and stuffing inside didn't taste good. No where matching with Mumbai Frankie. Dont just go by the name of Mumbai itself. read more
