This place ruined our Saturday night. 1. Incredibly bad customer service. No excuse here. 2. The appetizer took 40 minutes to come out and the main course never did. We talked out of the restaurant after 1h and 20mins of wait. When we chased the owner about the food, we were basically told that they were too busy to care and that we could just walk away if we'd like. That we did. I don't understand how a business can survive by treating their customers this way. The right thing to do is either hire more people or turn people away. Being greedy and sacrifice customer service and experience is how you end up in a failed business. Ordered takeout via doordash for self pickup on saturday night - this started an ordeal of poor service and communication. First doordash estimate was 90 minute order - we messaged with chat representative to cancel order and they told us estimate was reduced to 20 minutes. My wife called restaurant to confirm and they said 20-30 minutes so i left to pick it up. When i arrived 20 minutes later i checked with the owner at front desk and he stated another 40+ minutes. I showed him the text from doordash from 20 minutes ago which said 20 minutes and he rudely told me you cannot go by a 3rd party app ( i dont agree with this - take ownership of your business boosting apps) - in any case, my wife had already called the restaurant directly which had confirmed doordash timing (they had also spoken to restaurant). The owner insisted my wife never called (she did) and he was the only one answering phone calls (i saw another gent answering phone calls while i was standing there). My wife had to then call him back from her cell at home and it was revealed that the restaurant (someone else had indeed spoken to her) flubbed her name with someone else's and told us too short a time (not our fault). Owner refused to budge when i was speaking to him and claimed i was dishonest. Order was slightly rushed earlier than the 40 minutes (still 65 minutes wait time total) and the owner didnt bother to give me the food, issue apologies or the like. Driving through north jersey and decided to stop by for Indian, since I hear this region is rich with Indian culture. Ended up having the best Indian food I've ever come across. Spicy was actually spicy, service was spot on and personal and apparently most of the food here is a mother's recipe. Nothing was oily and they had a lot of unique menu items I haven't seen. The lamb shank special was smoked in the tandoor, which was a nice touch and fell off the bone. The basmati rice was flagrant with clove and cinnamon. I'm beyond pleased to report that Mumbai Dreams has impressed our whole family with its service, variety of flavors, and overall quality. My two eight year olds actually ate the saag paneer. Which is spinach. I repeat: my kids ate the spinach. This restaurant is a total departure from the typical Indian restaurant which often serves heavy and ordinary food. The flavors in the dishes we ordered (saag paneer, butter chicken, lamb malvani, and chana masala) were bright, original, and delicious. Everything tasted fresh. The owner explained that they grind their own spices in-house on a daily basis. We recently moved to Rockland from Jersey City and were sad to say goodbye to some of our very favorite Indian restaurants. But we're so happy to welcome Mumbai Dreams to Rockland! read more

I had the Tikka Paneer and it was so flavorful. Our friends had two of the chicken curry dishes and what was billed as the owner's mother's lamb recipe. I really enjoyed my experience at Mumbai Dreams. Everything from the garlic naan to the saag paneer and aloo gobi, was cooked to perfection. I have had a bunch of Indian food in Midtown and the food at Mumbai surpasses it. The food wasn't as oily and tasted way fresher than anything I have tasted in the past. We went with our friends (4 of us) to the restaurant based on another friend's recommendation. We wanted to be seated on the side joining up 2 tables (each table seating two), instead of sitting in the middle. The owner/manager was called and he said that there was a big party who had already made reservation, hence they could not accomodate us on the side. We were then seated in the center area. We ordered pakoda, lassi, kadai paneer, tadka dal and roti. Kadai paneer was very average, pakodas were very oily, rest was ok. No complaints about the service staff. However, we felt that the owner/manager's behavior was a bit arrogant. While we were leaving, we found there were a lot of was empty seats all along the side; the 'big party' that the owner mentioned was nowhere to be seen. Made reservations and yet was seated in an area with the uncomfortable metal chairs. I could understand if we were walk-ins to seat us in the crappy section that clearly looks like an after thought. We asked if we can sit by the bar while we wait for a table and was told a variety of ambiguous times that a table would be an available. Also, no food is served at the bar.
