Horray!!! New restaurant in magnolia and one that is affordable and family friendly!! Table of three sat at the bar on a Friday night at 5:30 (small space). Yakisoba was good as was the bibimbowl. Portions for these were average (noodle portion were about1/2 the size of our fave SAMs in Ballard.) it was also kind of wired to have to up charge everything. Veggie is basic +1 tofu +2 chicken etc. over all very good and we will be back. Hope they decide to do a happy hour one day. read more

Fantastic food, great friendly service. Everything is good but highly highly highly recommend the pork belly (simple salt and pepper, very little fat, grilled to perfection). Comes out in a steaming hot skillet. I have had this 30+ times and will have it another 30. Korean stew is equally fantastic, particularly on a cold day. My wife really enjoys the bibim bowls and the kimchi trio and appetizers are always great. Owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Atmosphere is casual and comfortable. You should go. Love that there is an Asian restaurant in the area that's not only teriyaki or sushi. A bit more upscale than the others but still casual enough to be kid-friendly. I live in the neighborhood and was excited to try the new place- the previous format was small plates and not as approachable. The service at Mura is really friendly, if overworked in a rush- the only reason I kept off a star was because right before we (party of two) got there, a table of 8 had arrived unannounced and really slowed down service- for a very simple order we were there over an hour. (Hey, people, if you have more than 4 ppl, call ahead!) The food is comforting and a great way into Korean cuisine that is not the ol' bbq format. My only wish is that kimchi came with everything. Great neighborhood gem and a lucky find! Stylish interior and fast friendly service. We had the chicken karaage, fried rice with pork belly and veggies, bulgogi, and spicy beef stew. Everything was delicious - the fried rice was the real star of the show though in my opinion! Just a little bit sweet, very savory, and love those little crispy bits in the bottom of the pan. Bibim- bowl with spicy pork for lunch! The only unfortunate part is that it doesn't have a hot stone sear on the bottom so no crispy bottom! I wish they could do that before they give it to me to-go. So far I love this place, the bibim-bowl is all I've had and it was takeaway but it's delicious. Only knock on them I've had is that they never answer the phone. So never been able to order ahead and pick up. I've sice learned they are on Open Table so maybe that will solve that problem...? Went here after seeing that it's a new korean joint in the neighborhood! Was excited on the way but finding it was kind of difficult. It is located in an alley kind of tucked away that could be missed since their sign isn't that big or noticeable. Anyways, came in and was greeted by a friendly waitress who got me the sprite I ordered shortly and took my order right after, since we were also ready. We ordered the spicy beef soup (yuk gae jang), pork belly and beef sukiyaki which with those two items comes with a miso and salad; so we each had our portion of them. Miso and salad came out quickly and the other items all came out at once shortly after, which is pretty fast. Looked forward to the taste! The pork belly was good but could use a little more seasoning and the sukiyaki as well; the soup was decent. Using korean spicy chili sauce to dip the meat in was a good alternative! We are not from Seattle. We were here just for a couple of days staying at an airbnb in a local neighborhood. We were pleasantly surprised when we found Mura. The food was unique and extremely delicious! I had the short ribs, and shared a Scallion Pancake and the Chicken Karaage! You can get many dishes served sizzling in a personal cast iron pan. Great small place for Japanese food. The noodles and chicken appetisers were cooked fresh and delicious. There is cool Jazz music inside on the speakers. Service by the male waiter: 0 stars Came in and waited to be seated for 2. Waiter was chatting with another table and when he noticed us, he asked how many and then told us to seat in the corner. We went to the corner next to the window. He immediately called out "I said the other side" like he was ordering us around. What possessed him to say that "I said"? He then emphasized for dinner time, they need to save the table of 4. I don't get it. Their table is those tables of 2s and they combine 2 to form a 4 seater. I don't see how us taking a 2 seater table on 1 corner would impact them from combining the other 2 empty tables for possible 4 seaters. I was just in shock at this attitude that we just moved to the other corner. I did say "that's fine but you don't have to be so mean about it" to the waiter. Maybe he's having a bad day. Luckily a lady came out afterwards and she's really sweet. Food 4 stars: We order Scallion pancakes, kimchi fried rice and sukiyaki beef. All 3 dishes are pretty good. The sukiyaki beef is a little different from Japanese restaurant. It's more like onion and beef stir fry on iron skillet but it taste really good. Scallion pancakes came out crispy and just right. This evening my son was showing me video episodes about Korean food, and it put me in the mood for beef short ribs. I searched for a local restaurant and Mura popped up, right in my backyard in Magnolia. We gave it a shot and it exceeded my expectations. The kimchi trio was crazy good (radish, baby cucumber, and traditional napa cabbage), with a richness that you won't find in store bought varieties. The scallion pancake was hot, fresh, and delicious. The gyoza were great. The main course, short ribs, was served on a sizzling iron skillet over onions and peppers with a side of pickles. Oh my.... We ordered Salmon Shioyaki, Bibim bowl (bibimbap), pork bulkogi, and the kimchi chijae, all were absolutely wonderful. Plus two warms sakes... :)) This is sort of a Japanese-Korean fusion restaurant with an emphasis on the Korean and I am so glad for that. You can get teryaki/yakisoba anywhere but all the great Korean food requires a journey to Shoreline otr further up hwy 99. However, Mura produces awesome Korean dishes with really great traditional flavor. Hands down great Korean food without the long drive up north So happy we found this place read more

I'm Korean and live in Magnolia. I will never bring my family here again. Waited 15 minutes at the door, for some reason was never seated and other patrons were prioritized despite a few open tables. Not even once recognized to get seated. Some food is somewhat close to authentic but most of it is disingenuous to Korean cuisine and caters to the western palate (everything is sweet, spices are dialed way down). Sorry, we will be driving 10 more minutes to the International District instead. read more

Best Japanese Korean fusion I have tasted. Great little place nice lighting and simple but classy decor. Neighborhood feel with people knowing each other and knowing the owners. Served very prompt and food cooked fresh. The kimchi potato pancakes were amazing with mild spice. Unagi was a large portion cooked perfect on crusted rice in a skillet that kept the dish warm throughout the meal. Parking easy on the street. Will definitely be coming back! read more

This was my fifth visit to Mura, and it was just as good as the first time. I had the soft tofu stew, which was spicy and full of flavor. The chef and owner described the food as Korean comfort food, and although I am not Korean, I did find comfort. This is the hidden gem in Magnolia, which is not typically a destination for cuisine because, well, there is none. Until now. Affordable and delicious. We had Chicken Karaage and Korean Meatballs for apps...both were so delicious! ...we were both like...Whoa! Score! I had the Fried Rice w/ Kim Chi and Pork Belly (which is the stuff food dreams are made of) and she had a nice salad w/ Korean Short Ribs which was super tasty. We were really looking forward to trying Mura this evening. My husband is Korean and is ecstatic to have Korean in the hill. We arrived a little after 5pm with our three kids and one on the way. After waiting about 15 minutes without acknowledgement, we were still hopeful that this new business could provide us with food that would outweigh our underwhelming first impression. When another party of four was sat, served drinks and ordered, and we had only received a tiny sideways apology, we packed up and left. The one waitress did not seemed concerned. I definitely feel for being understaffed and possibly new to the industry, but I am sure we will not be the only busy hungry family looking for a timely break from cooking on the weekend. We came on a Saturday night and the place was packed! Luckily we had made reservations ahead of time. The seafood pancake was the best I ever tried (and I have eaten at a LOT of Korean restaurants). We tried the bibim bowl because people were positive about it but it was disappointing to me. The rice was burned in some places. The tonkatsu was crispy and just right.
