It's sad having to publicly criticize a neighborhood eatery that has a long standing reputation for quality food and nice service. But after speaking with a couple of Asian friends, we seemed to share the concern that the lady who appeared to be the owner of Mura was rude to Asian customers. How pathetic it is that when we advocate the cease of Asian hate, it somehow could still originate from ourselves. I love this place. It's comfortable and welcoming but not at all stuffy or overly trendy. Honestly, it's a relief to have a casual and authentic place with really good food in Seattle. And the food is excellent. This is the best Korean food I've had in Seattle to date. The only small complaint is that you get very little kimchi and it's not super flavorful - I think they could beef up the spice a bit. I have been meaning to go here for so long and now that I have there is no turning back. Mura is one of the popular eateries in my neighborhood. Their space is tiny and have a couple of tables and a seating area facing the open kitchen. Most of the times when I have had food from here it has been when I order via trycaviar. I am not an expert at Korean food but I do love the offerings here. Their scallion pancake is delicious. I read through the reviews and I am glad I got me some . I absolutely love their bibimbap. It's the best , simple yet so different from the couple of Korean places I have tried. The croquettes are perfectly fried with a soft filling of potatoes. I wish they had done an asian fix to to the croquette in terms of the filling . The condiments they provide with the scallion are to die for. They have a good range of options on their menu. The female owner was rude to our family and borderline discriminatory. She kept a stern face throughout and was very unpleasant when our kid wanted to keep a menu. Just finished a meal here. The staff are so polite and sweet. Really good service. It's not a big place so do make reservations if you have a larger party. Luckily we were seated rather quickly as someone voluntarily moved to a smaller table. We ordered scallion pancake and kimchi trio to start. They came out quickly and hit the right flavors. Also ordered a round of green tea. The tea turned out to be Tazo but our friend said the last time she was here she was served the green tea with rice. Our server also brought us a pot of hot water so that we could refill our teacups. I ordered the bimbim bowl with sukiyaki beef. It was a large serving size with the spicy sauce on the side. Again, my taste buds were satisfied. Our friend said the last time she had the bimbim bowl it came in the skillet so it was warmer and more crispy. Nevertheless, the bowl was still yummy. Too full to sample dessert. Next time! Kudos for taking this small restaurant place and turning it into a neighborhood gem. By far some of the best Asian food in Seattle. Tucked down an ally in "the village" of Magnolia, this place has quickly become a regular lunch spot for me. Pot stickers are a wonderful start with flavorful filling and a wonder pan fried crunch (and soft reverse side). Much more enjoyable than deep fried. If it's your first time, don't waste your time. Very charming and unique Japanese and Korean fusion restaurant located in an alley in Magnolia. It appears to be a husband and wife team that are extremely focused on your experience. We ordered a variety of items including potstickers, a delicious Korean noodle appetizer, Kimchi pancakes, and of course I got the chicken Katsu for my entre as it is pretty much fried chicken. My sister has been raving about this place and finally conviced us you join her for dinner. I am so glad we did. The space is small and fills quickly, but is worth the wait. The green scallion pancakes (Korean style) are worth the trip alone. More scallion than batter and load with a great flavor. The udon was simple with a great dashi broth. The bimimbop is spot on. In general, we ate our way through the menu and we were all happy. I wuld like the chicken cooked a bit more (it is done, but Asian done, which is a texture I am not used to yet). They have a great menu for meat eaters and vegetairans. Service is quick and friendly. read more

An update to my earlier review.. This place is just as amazing as ever. Kay and Ted are fantastic. Kay makes all the sauces herself, the kimchi and pickled veggies too. They use organic ingredients and they use fruits to sweeten sauces instead of throwing sugar in. Clearly this place is their passion and they take pride in doing the ingredients justice. If you haven't been before, I highly recommend trying the Bibimbap in the hot skillet. It's a classic. read more

Came here after a visit to Discovery Park. Saw the great Yelp review so decided to give it a try. Parking wasn't too hard with a decent amount of street parking. We got tofu stew and bibimbap - the typical things you would get from a Korean place. Food was average and I have definitely had better Korean food elsewhere in Seattle. Excellent service and food. We stumbled on this terrific little spot last night. It's tucked in an alley in Magnolia very similar to what you would find in a Japanese"village" . Ted is the owner and is cooking behind the bar. We wanted to watch him cook so we took a seat at the bar. Ted told us we should try the bibim bowl. We chose the spicey pork. Beef, bbq chicken or no meat are other options. It comes sizzling in a little black iron frying pan straight from grill to table. Because we were first timers Ted mixed it up for us and said enjoy! It has wonderful flavors and just the right amount of crispy crunch. Pure deliciousness! The miso soup, edamame & kimchee salad were all on point as well. Ok so, im Korean and I'm trying to be nice, but I also think it's important to be honest. This place is an Americanized version of Korean restaurant - watered down in flavors and bulgoggi made by Costco, or by Caucasian's who think they know Korean food. The Funny thing is that it's owned by Koreans, so I'm sure the owners strategically planned their menu for non Koreans, and frankly that's ok; however, when my 84 year old Korean mother asked for a cup of hot water, the woman who sat/served us rudely told her that they don't serve hot water, i was a little taken back, especially since they serve hot tea...hmm. Anyways, I can go on and on, but rude service to my 85 year old mom kind of made below- subpar food experience even worse. Do not go there if you are Asian or someone who truly appreciate good food. read more

The waiter ignore us and make us stand by the front door to wait for almost 15 minutes and not even said anything about set up table or anything else. There is no line in it. (Full disclosure: despite my name, I'm half Korean and grew up eating this stuff, so keep that in mind when reading the review.) Mura passes muster :) A bit limited menu but understandable in that most of their clientele isn't going to be Korean. I had the "stir-fried spicy seafood," which was pretty decent. I'm used to having it just be squid but this one appeared to have octopus, clams, and shrimp in addition. The pot stickers were a hit with my toddler. There were only two people working the floor (husband and wife I think?) so service was a bit slow since the small place was so full, but that happened to be OK tonight. I did think it was interesting they served things entree-style rather than family style but then again, as noted before, Koreans aren't going to be the main clientele. I'd love to go back sometime when it's less busy, perhaps for lunch, and see if they have any plans to expand the menu! (This was a couple of weeks ago. Went back tonight, when there were more servers working the floor. This time I had the sundubu jjigae (spicy soft tofu stew with beef) and my wife the dolsot bibimbap. The stew was great. The bibimbap, I've had better elsewhere, but it was by no means bad. I did notice this time that they charged $6 for "three kinds of kimchi," which ended up being a little plate of traditional cabbage kimchi, cucumber kimchi, and kkakdugi [radish]. At a traditional Korean restaurant this would have been free and there would have been more of it. But that's OK. I definitely would recommend this place and am glad it's in the neighborhood. Don't expect to have prices as low as you might find in the University District, though. And if you have a party of four or more do make a reservation, as seating is limited.) read more

Located I n Magnolia, this hidden gem is in the alley behind Windermere Realtors. I've eaten there four times. They have bountiful servings. Delicious food. Friendly staff. Family run. Good prices on wine and beer. They also do carry out. I was walking my dog around lunch and had to have their beef dish. So I called them. They brought the bill outside to me and then the food. I had lunch here while visiting Seattle from NJ and really enjoyed my dining experience. The fiancé and I got the kimchi trio, the spicy pork bibimbap and the curry katsu. The food was delicious! The bibimbap was very fresh, the spicy pork was well seasoned, and the katsu was perfectly crispy on the outside, but juicy and tender on the inside. Even though the kimchi trio included similar offerings to side dishes that are sometimes free at Korean restaurants, I actually found it to be worth it here because it was fresh, and pickled just enough without being too sour or too salty.
