This is a family owned, small business that truly cares about their customers and knows what they are doing! When I first signed up, I was provided so much information and answers to all of my questions that I felt 110% comfortable switching providers. When I had my first oil delivery, it was seamless. My driver was professional and courteous, but also very professional and efficient. He was in and out in no time, but did the job well and answered all of my questions. I woke up yesterday to no heat and 55 degrees in the house. I tried other companies and they said they would not do it because of the snow and ice on my walkway. Woke up in the morning to my heating unit running but not producing heat. Checked the gauge outside and it still looked to be over half full. I called from work to set up a service call. The service manager spoke with me and asked if I checked the gauge to make sure I had fuel. I told him yes but I hadn't filled the tank in quite some time. Rather than send someone out and take my money for a service charge, he informed me that the gauge was most likely stuck and we probably were out of oil. Sure enough, I went home and unscrewed the housing and the gauge dropped to empty. They filled me up the next day and we are back up and running. Already scheduled our next maintenance appointment. In a society that is diminishing in quality and customer service, it was refreshing to receive patience and more importantly, honestly from a company. We've used Murphys for about 3 years now, We woke up on day 5 of a snow storm to NO HEAT. I thought I had filled the tank last time but I only got a 1/2 a tank! Oops! I called in a Saturday AM expecting to be waitlisted and would have to figure something out until Monday or Tuesday. The gentleman who answered the phone (45 min before opening by the way!) was so helpful and able to get someone out to us today, on a Saturday!! I've been with Murphy's for about 2 years now and they've been nothing but helpful and courteous. I even went with them to upgrade my HVAC system since they offered the best deal (I got quotes from 2 other companies before). They installed it quickly and even cleaned up afterward. We needed the AC fixed for our tenant. It took three visits while being charged each time. Nothing worked. The last repairman told our tenant he did not feel like crawling under the crawlspace and we would have to call back and get someone else to do it. He thought maybe we needed a new system even though he didn't look. I called Murphy's Fuel today and spoke with a nasty receptionist who made it her goal to NOT be helpful. For TERRIBLE customer service, high prices and shady work- head to Murphy's! My husband and I contacted Murphy's about filling our oil tank this winter. We'd had a cheaper company (by $0.30!) tell us they'd have to remove some of our decking in order to get to the pipe. To avoid that, we called Murphy's whom we knew the previous owner of our home had used in the past. We spoke to two people at Murphy's, one of which being the delivery driver who claimed he had been to our home and delivered oil without damaging the decking. We decided to pay more money for the delivery with Murphy's to keep our deck in place. The day of the delivery, we came home to see that the decking had simply been ripped up by the driver without as much as a courtesy call to tell us he'd ruined our deck. When I called Murphy's to express my displeasure the OWNER told me I was lying about his pricing being higher (I wasn't- Kero-Del in Glen Burnie was exactly 30 cents cheaper) and there's no way the driver did such a thing and hung up on me. This was my first time using Murphy's oil and it will be my last. That's certainly not the way to gain customers. read more

I moved into a new house two years ago and have used Murphy's for two winters. They deliver the oil in a timely manner, the oil does what it's supposed to do. I don't have a problem with the product. My problem is with the customer service. Every time I have to pay my bill I have nothing but trouble with their website, which looks and functions like something from the early 90's. When the website doesn't work I call the main office and herein lies the problem. I find the representatives on the phone to be impatient and rude and that is where you lose my business. I was drawn to their business because they are a family business, my mother's maiden name is Murphy, family is important to me. But customer service is where you open the door to new and return clients. Make a bad impression there and you business will struggle. They have lost mine. read more

I just called Murphy's oil because I just moved into a house that has oil heat. The lady was incredibly rude on the phone! When I told her I would like to become a new customer, she gave a deep sigh (like I was inconveniencing her), and she asked me "well, what is it you want to know". I wanted to know the plans they offered, are there any specials, do they auto fill, can my bill be stretched out into payments, etc. Finally there was another phone ringing in the background and I said I would hold, and I hung up. Don't bother with this company, if there office staff doesn't care, I can't imagine what service at my home would be like!!!!! read more

My wife and I stopped using this company several years ago because we were fed up with the service. It always frustrated me that they would want to charge the customer an extra % rate for the use of credit card. My opinion as a business owner myself that accepts credit cards is that is a cost I bare to offer a convenience to my customer. However, we continued to use them because they were local until the Owner's son was completely inappropriate with my wife. His office did not communicate to him that we would be paying with a credit card and demanded to be paid by cash or check and was completely rude to the point my wife felt threatened. He did not realize I was in house and through him out. I called the office and his sister emphatically apologized for him but, after that I could no longer use them. I hope this company has changed around and believe the father is a good person but, until they begin appreciate there customers I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

I've been using Murphy's for 4-5 years now and have had nothing but good service. Whenever I need fuel oil, they've been able to deliver within 24 hours, and you can almost always schedule furnace maintenance within about a week and emergency service within 24 hours. For a couple of years my furnace burner was acting up but, as part of their $200 per year service plan, they sent their technicians out time and time again with no cost to me. (Finally this year they recommended replacing the burner and I've had no more furnace trouble since.) I highly recommend Murphy's. read more

I have been a customer of Murphy's for years. I had never had any problems with them and was generally happy UNTIL NOW! I called Murphy's on Tuesday 1/19/2016 to order Heating Oil in preparation for the BIG SNOW STORM that we are expecting as I was down to half a tank and didn't want to risk running out. I was told no problem and that they would have it to me by the next day (Wednesday 1/20/2016). I asked if they had an estimated time of delivery and they told me they didn't but if I called back in the morning they might be able to advise me better. I did just that and they told me that they had a full day of deliveries and were unable to give me a time but that I would be getting my delivery that day. I waited at my house all day, at 4pm I still hadn't gotten my delivery so I called again, they told me that they were very busy and still couldn't give me a time but ASSURED me that I would get my delivery that day. 7PM rolls around and STILL NO DELIVERY. I called one more time. They answered and expressed that they were closed for the day. I then told them that I had ordered oil and was told that I was going to get a delivery and hadn't gotten it, at what time should I expect it?. The person on the phone told me that deliveries were all done for the day and if I was going to get one I would have gotten it already. They looked up my ticket and told me that sense I only needed half a tank that they had delivered to people that were out of oil first and just didn't make it to my order before the end of the day and that I would get it the following day. Which makes sense and would have been fine EXCEPT I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED and wouldn't have been had I not called for a 3rd time that day. I asked to speak to a manager and was told that I was already speaking with the owner. I proceeded to express my frustration and annoyance with the whole situation especially because I was assured on multiple occasions that I would be getting my oil delivery that day so I STAYED HOME ALL DAY WAITING FOR NOTHING (losing a days wages I might add). I was then told in a hostile tone that "I already apologized" (which they didn't) and "do you still want your oil"? I asked if it was going to actually be delivered the next day as I was being told it was going to be, they replied "I don't know you tell me"? "I don't want to hear your mouth any more I have X amount of customers and I don't need your business of half a tank of oil." "Do you want your oil or not"? As I was about to say "Of course I do I have an infant at home and cant risk running out." I was very rudely and unprofessionally hung up on. With that said If Murphy's "Doesn't Need My Business" do they really need yours? Don't be the next customer to be screwed over and treated terrible by these people. Over the last few years Murphy's service has been "Terrible" and that is an understatement. We are on automatic oil delivery and ran out of oil on one of the coldest days in the winter. I called them at 4:00 a.m. and they had the nerve to tell me they couldn't be out until the next day since I was not their only customer. When they did come out they could only give me a few gallons then come out again later in the day to bleed the line and make the house smell because we got to the bottom of the tank. They blamed it on us since they said we should have told them we needed oil. Then this January I thought it was a little chilly in the house so they came out to check. All they did was look in the furnace & told me to change the filter because there was a small hole in the filter. So I did that the same day. Presidents Day weekend came with below freezing temperatures and the inside of the house would not go above 65 degrees. I waited until Monday to call Murphys to tell them that something was wrong and they told me they would have to charge me to come out even though I have the top service policy. They said they were busy anyway. I then had to call a friend who got my heat working two hours later. He told me the my furnace needed cleaned and the tech should have cleaned it last month when he was here. Also, the line was freezing up and all it needed was a $3.00 bottle of "Heat" that I bought at the automotive store. I told Murphys about this and they said that I should have had that put in my oil the week before when I was getting my oil filled. I never heard of "Heat" before my friend even told my about it. Murphy's said I had to ask for it. Then they had the nerve to send me an e-mail stating they would no longer deliver oil to me. That's means they broke the service contract for the year. Not only are they rude on a whole but poor, shady business characters also. Please don't go to Murphys. There is better service out there. Nobody should have to pay for such rudeness. read more
