Our family visited Murray Hill Dinner for breakfast during our family vacay in NYC. The diner was close to our hotel and we wanted to have a nice big breakfast before exploring the city. The customer service at this place is top notch! The waiters and staff are so friendly and really kind. We travelled with two small kids and they wanted us to feel as comfortable as possible. I've been here several times for breakfast-I've enjoyed scrambled eggs, hash browns, toast. Always good. Service is always nice and helpful. Today, I felt like having a tuna melt for lunch. (Tuna, melted American cheese, on rye toast) It was brought to the table open-faced, but when I combined the top and bottom it was more like the height of the sandwich I had pictured in my mind. LOL. and it was very good. It came with a terrific sour pickle half, and a small portion of Cole slaw. A satisfying meal. I'll update again whenever I try something else from the menu. But, I like the Murray Hill Diner. I do recommend it. There are no stairs upon entry/exit, but if you need to use the rest room there is one or two steps up/down. Same floor as tables. It's my second time here and both times were awesome. There is the cozy and lively atmosphere. The food portions are huge and price is reasonable esp for manhattan. The fries at the thin ones similar to Mcd so that is a nice bonus for us. We would want to try their dessert but we were definitely too full. The staff was nice. Side note: Didn't realize I went here back in 2016. Maybe, I'll give it another chance in 2034? Anyway, I was here a month or so ago for breakfast as I got up early and was walking down for work. A couple others were here, and some others came by as I was eating. The waiter, immediately before sitting down, asked me if I wanted a cup of coffee (with the same waiter asking another group of people as they sat down,) and as I presumed it came with breakfast like most other spots, I said yes. I checked the menu and they offered two eggs, any style, for $9.95, which sounds like a good deal in concept, with any meat addition being an extra $5. The meal comes with potatoes (not listed as home fries) and toast solely, which meant that the coffee wasn't included and was an extra $2.50, but oh well. The coffee came out pretty quickly, with some small containers of milk, and it was the standard good diner coffee. I went with said eggs, ordering them poached, and they came out pretty much in the expected amount of time, for a breakfast place. The eggs were properly poached, and I used the toast for dipping as per usual. The potatoes, though, were much blander than other breakfast spots. There was a tiny bit of crisp, but they lacked vegetables outside of a small bit of onion, so their description of them as potatoes and not home fries was very accurate. The table, lacking any hot sauce and only having ketchup, didn't help either. I also finished the cup of coffee at one point while eating breakfast, but the waiter was MIA, so no refill for me. The waiter magically appeared when I finished and wanted the bill (of course,) and I paid pretty soon afterwards, with the cashier being friendly. There's several other diners and breakfast spots I'd go to instead in the neighborhood and that isn't mentioning Joe Jr. 20 blocks south if I wanted a great diner breakfast. Even the deli nearby by work makes a better breakfast, and their food isn't great. From the bland potatoes to the service, I wouldn't bother going here again. read more

Stopped by Murray Hill Diner for breakfast and left with mixed feelings. I had scrambled eggs with two sausages and home fries. The food was fine--nothing spectacular--just the kind of breakfast you'd expect from any standard diner. Service was decent overall, and the food came out fast. Coffee refills were on point, which I appreciated. However, I did ask for my home fries well done, and the server mentioned the cooks are busy and usually make it one way--but he'd ask. Spoiler: they came out just the regular way, not crispy at all. A small thing, but annoying nonetheless. The space itself felt a bit cramped, which made the experience less comfortable. In the end, it's a decent enough spot if you're nearby and need a quick bite, but there's nothing here that would make me go out of my way to come back. read more

Classic NY diner. We went for a filling breakfast before exploring the city, and we were not disappointed. The pancakes, omelette, and hash browns were HUGE and delicious. The coffee came in a stereotypical cup with a thick rim. Service was great until it was time to get our bill, our server was hard to find at that point. No big deal. Old school diner in the heart of Murray Hill. We went for breakfast on a recent trip to NYC. Everything was fine, but not great by diner standards. The menu is extensive and the service efficient and quintessentially NYC. We had omelettes, waffles, and sides of bacon. The omelettes were generously portioned, but quite brown and overdone. The waffle was fine but could have been crispier. The sides of bacon were large, but the bacon had a bit of a stale flavor. It wasn't spoiled, but didn't have that scrumptious bacon flavor. Overall, a decent place for breakfast but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there. read more

I stopped into the Murray Hill Diner last night. I ordered pretty standard diner fare (a Lumberjack special with waffles). For the record, pretty much every other diner in the city that offers a Lumberjack special means it's either pancakes or waffles and comes with eggs PLUS bacon, ham, AND sausage. This diner only offers one meat option for this special which was weird to me considering the price was around $23-24. I ordered the waffle lumberjack with sausage plus scrambled eggs and I asked them to add swiss cheese to the eggs. Shockingly, this was the most flavorless meal I have ever eaten. I could not believe how devoid of taste it was. The only thing that had flavor were the sausages and I'm guessing its because they didn't make them, only heated them up. The cheese I asked them to add *to* the scrambled eggs was a slice of Swiss placed on top. And it was so hard and dried out that it wasn't melting. It truly seemed like the cheese had been sitting out all day because it was rubbery. When it came time to pay, the meal somehow added up to almost $28. She asked me how I would like to pay and I wanted to use ApplePay with my debit card. She asked how much tip I wanted to put on the card and offered "20% .. 25%." (?!) I had to chuckle when she suggested I tip 25%. I reluctantly sad 20% not realizing she was adding that gratuity amount on top of the post-tax amount. That is crazy. Plus, they had the nerve to charge a "service fee" for paying with a Debit card which I'm pretty sure is illegal. I've gone to dozens of diners throughout the city. I ate here for a quick brunch around peak time, 12pm on a Saturday. For a group of 2, we were seated immediately at a booth. The restaurant was busy but they served us quickly. The omelette was tasty, and I ate half at the restaurant and took the other half to go. However, when I ate the omelette later I found eggshells in the omelette which made me lose my appetite to finish it. Probably wouldn't specifically choose this place again, but if I need a spot for a quick brunch I would consider trying something else on the menu. read more

The service and the food here that I had was excellent. The waiters are very friendly and attentive. I ate a Cobb salad which was a large portion with iceberg, romaine, baby greens, tomato, cucumber, peppers, olives, red onion, grilled chicken, eggs and bacon, above and beyond for a Cobb salad with the olives, onions and peppers. They refilled water for my Chamomile tea. The restaurant itself is clean and while not upscale, nice with brightly colored striped material on the booths. The bathroom was clean except for the floor which had water all over and dirt where people had stepped in it. I'm not sure why there would be water all over the bathroom floor as it wasn't raining or snowing out. The front door is wheelchair accessible, but the bathrooms have two steps up. read more

A go-to local eatery that's reliably good. The beauty of a diner is the availability of almost any kind of food, regardless of time of day. This falls into play for me at breakfast. I'm not often in the mood for eggs, unlike T who's up for eggs any time, any day. So I ordered chicken salad on toasted white (a bread I rarely want) with lettuce and tomato. Always an oasis! Quiet, fast service and very attentive staff make this spot a must when we venture into the city for a doctor's visit. The coffee is the best!!! This is a diner. A plain vanilla diner. So my four-star rating is rating it in the diner category, not against more ambitious dining establishments. We were in town for a week and definitely wanted a diner meal. Murray Hill was nearby so we stopped in for dinner. Wife ordered fried shrimp, and I had a Reuben sandwich. Portions were generous, and service was ok. In general, both meals were over-cooked. I was surprised that the Reuben was delivered as an open faced sandwich as it wasn't described that way on the menu. However the potato salad that came with it was very good. Murray Hill is my literal go-to place. I love eating here. The food is always perfect when you eat in. Delivery, not always so good. Sometimes they make mistakes, and sometimes, like tonight, the food just takes too long and is delivered cold, and I am only two blocks away. The problem seems to be that some of their in-house delivery guys are very good and others are very bad. But GrubHub will comp me for the cold food. But I really do not, can not, eat cold spinach pie. So you're better off eating in or picking up the food yourself. read more

I read $16.95 on the menu, and was charged $19.95 for it when I didn't even get everything that was included! On the walk in not as welcoming and or as diverse as I be would think. I am going this establishment one star as I was not welcomed on the walk in. I said good morning and heard nothing in return. I say this because of course I sit at the counter and observe while I wait for my food and observe all WP walk in the establishment be greeted walking in and when they approached the counter to order their food. This is not new to be but I will say it is definitely not acceptable. I ordered my food in addition to an iced coffee that was ok. I left a $5.00 tip to the waiter behind the counter because once she saw I spoke Spanish her entire demeanor started to change. Again, not something I am not use to, it's just not an experience I forget when I am in the area and want to order food. I will say this to the owner. Downtown is not just for one specific race or gender. Anyone who comes through your door came through and is intentional about patronizing your business. When I go to a diner, it's either eggs or burgers. Today was for breakfast so I indulged on a "Murray Hill Omelette " Bacon, sausage, ham....solid choice. Rye toast buttered and jellied. Coffee, bottomless cup. Arriving after 12, place was crowded with the Sunday breakfast crowd but was still seated right away. Waiter came right over took my order right away. Returned fairly quickly with my ok coffee. In a few blinks my eggs, home fries and toast arrived. Only 2 individual servings of butter. Needed more which I procured pretty quickly from a bus boy who brought me water. Waiter was on top of making sure my coffee cup was full. Unfortunately he forgot to bring more moo juice. 03/13/23: Day in the office looking for something quick and healthy before meeting. Decided to check out the diner and grab a grill chicken salad. Other diners burgers and fries almost made me rethink my salad. Not a large diner but it pretty busy with customers coming and going. Cute bar stool setup along with booths. As for the salad. Not bad it's a decent serving but for $23 bit steep even for Manhattan. Note to self if I decide to return to remember no onions. If you are an onion lover you will be in heaven. The Murray Hill Diner is an excellent spot for breakfast and they have a nice brunch menu available until 3PM. They have the usual full spectrum diner menu good for lunch and dinner, but I admittedly come here for breakfast and brunch most often. You'll know you're in the right spot, given all the locals who pack the place. It's a busy diner. I had one disrespectful interaction during the pandemic with someone I had never seen before and never since, but service is as friendly as a crowded place allows. Just be decisive on your menu selections and your results will be a lot better here and that goes for all of NYC. I most often order the three eggs deluxe off their brunch menu. You can and should specify how and the degree to which you want your eggs cooked. It comes with toast, hash browns, ham, sausage and bacon, as well as coffee or tea and juice or mimosa after noon. That is a great breakfast that can really hit the spot if you were out the night before. That will top off most people. Sometimes I order a short stack on the side and for good measure to round things out for your sweet tooth. Their pancakes are pretty good and leave you wondering how great they could be with real maple syrup... The brunch menu used to be an outstanding bargain, with that three eggs deluxe coming in at fourteen or fifteen bucks. Now at twenty two bucks and aligned with the other brunch price points, it is still okay, but this is what has happened everywhere. Local people continue to pack out the Murray Hill Diner. It's clean and they operate efficiently to handle the volume. Three solid stars! read more

Came in early Sunday morning on New Years day, free street parking was the best part! We ordered the normal breakfast sandwich and the 3 egg platter. Nothing too flashy just an ordinary breakfast. What was dramatic was the loud "disagreements" the manager had with one of the employees. It should have been taken out of the dining area and discussed more professionally. This place has a lot of mediocre reviews, but I think most of them are from people who forget what a New York city diner is meant to be. like most diners, the menu VERY long, but that doesn't mean every dish is going to be fantastic. Any given diner you go to is going to have certain dishes that are great and other ones that are just fine and it's up to you to figure out what fits your standards. Personally, I loved both the grilled cheese deluxe platter, and the buffalo chicken wrap that we had. We also had a black and white shake, which was very good. Service was pretty quick, and our waiter was very nice and the restaurant was clean.
