Busy weekend in the Village. We visited based upon a recommendation from a local. Cool low key spot. It was a sight for sore eyes after trying to maneuver through crowds. Welcoming atmosphere. Let me just start by saying this place embarrassed the heck out of me and my family. We came in for lunch, after we ordered and our food was brought to the table the waitresses were almost nonexistent. We had to keep getting up to ask for things that we never got (ex. Refills, sugar and extra condiments.) Even at one point my daughter was waiting on her refill for a good 10 minutes or so, when I decided to walk up to the bar area and ask again. However the bartender/waitress was sooooo busy shoving a jack in the box taco down her throat and filling up her own cup that she completely ignored me until the man which I'm assuming was the owner mentioned something. After paying an expensive bill and having really poor service, we decided that a tip wasn't going to be given. After paying and heading out the bar, the waitress yelled across the entire restaurant/bar NO TIP. Then a few random men sitting at the bar decided to stop my mom and say something negative to her about not tipping. It was very embarrassing, this place should really look how they treat paying customers and put forth a little more effort into their jobs before expecting to receive free money! Great find on our visit up the Hill! Wife had the Pastrami, I had the Jalapeño Bacon Burger (subbed blue cheese for cheddar, delish!), and our two kiddos had the grilled cheese and hot dog (HUGE dog BTW... FTW!). Food was amazing! Nope! Not coming back. I have never experienced such awful customer service. We walked in, got stared down right away. Handed menus, were sat semi prominently. After that it just got worse. Not one of the two bartender/servers came to take our order. After 25min. Or so of waiting for someone to take our order, I decided to walk up to the bar to place it. Nope, that didn't work either. The blonde waitress, when not eating the her food, was busy with her friends and family at the bar to even notice me standing there waiting to place an order. The other server, Sparks, was too busy on her phone to even give me a minute to ask for a beer. Others have said this place favors regulars and not visitors. Unfortunately, I have to agree. I can't say I have ever felt so disrespected at a bar before. Especially here in Big Bear, I haven't felt so marginalized before. We have a service animal with us. Before we got sat, we made sure it was ok to bring him in. We were told yes. But no further instructions were given. He was in his holster, yet we were told he needed to be on the floor on a leash. I have no issue abiding to those instructions, BUT you tell me this after almost 45min. If waiting around to take my order. Gave the place the benefit of the doubt up to that point. Don't bother going if you aren't a local or not white, as that seemed to be the only way to get serviced. Btw, the place wasn't packed at all to justify the lack of service. read more

We came here to watch the football game and we loved it! Great customer service. Chris was very attentive and greeted us right away. He took our drink and food order. He was handling the entire restaurant. The wait was not long at all. I got the cheeseburger and it was delicious. It was juicy and very tasty. We also got the cheese sticks and they were to die for. My husband got the chicken sandwich and he loved it. My son got the sirloin steak and he said he was flavorful. It was also karaoke night and it was a lot of fun! A group of my friends rented an Airbnb in big bear. We decided to do the alpine slide thing, went to the park (it had just snowed the week before). Anyways, we decided to grab lunch before going back home. My friend looks up a place and found this. Has lots of stars so we decided to head into town. It's literally a dive bar that has food. We had to push 2 tables together for our group of 6. The food: I got the fish tacos and they were good. So much cabbage though! The sauce for it is good. I love sauces. It makes or break the dishes! I only ate one so I took the other one home. I ate it the next morning and it was still tasty. It has to be fresh since my fish had a bone in it... I was kinda shocked lol We had fried mushrooms that were super tasty. The batter on it is good. I tried someone's calamari and it's bigger pieces than what you're used to but, I liked it. Super tender. The batter was different but, well seasoned. It came with a cocktail sauce I think. I dipped it in their ranch. Which by the way is good. I tried the onion rings which was really good. The fries also had some batter on it so it added a nice flavor and texture. The service: It was ehh. We were there during lunch on a Friday. It honestly looks like a lot of locals. It was pretty busy at the time we went especially since a lot of people were there to drink and not eat. Covid thangs: Employees don't wear masks. It wasn't really social distance. There's a QR code for their menu, it takes you to their FB for photos of the menu. They also brought paper menus out but, it didn't have a description. So refer back to your phone... Wow, we absolutely love this place. I had their Rib Eye Steak for the first time and I just might never order anything else again! Comes with mashed potatoes, sauteed vegetables and garlic cheese bread. All for about $25! My steak was cooked to perfection, so tender and fresh! I love this place. I love Karaoke with Russ, I love the wait staff, I love all the friends I meet here, I love the coziness of the dining room. The wine is always good too (Josh). I had arrived to Big Bear with intention of going to another restaurant but found it was closed. I looked at Yelp, saw this was within walking distance, and off I went and I'm glad I did. The Saloon doesn't pop out so keep your eyes open when you go there. It is tucked away right off the busy main drag. Upon entering I was directed to the back patio where a variety of tables and umbrellas had been positioned for maximum occupancy and they needed every table there. I found a table toward the center and watched how no table was empty for more than a couple minutes. It was a very popular place and it was easy to see why. A man sang a variety of songs toward the front providing commentary between songs and taking the occasional break. It provided a great relaxing atmosphere. The waiters and waitresses were very busy running back and forth. I often had to flag them down, but they each were super pleasant. It wasn't any fault of theirs. The food was incredible. I ordered the Russell Burger and it was amazing. It was also huge. If I wasn't traveling this would have been a meal that could have easily provided leftovers. The French fries were among the best I had in the area with its distinct potato taste and crispy exterior I found myself munching on them well past the point of being full. I ordered a cactus cooler to drink. I found it light and refreshing if not a little low octane. I really enjoyed my time here! read more

Arrived around 9 PM on a Friday night and it was very lively! It was hard to find a seat, but we waited 10 minutes and someone left so we got a really good table by the door. It was really warm in there so the breeze from the door was welcome. Super busy, Friendly staff saw me right away and took our order. Listened to karaoke, sang 2 karaoke songs and when familiar songs, are sung, the whole place sings along! And this particular night, you did not have to wait very long to be called to sing. It's a local dive bar that stays open later then the rest depending on karaoke nights to keep it a float. Yet if your not a local they will cross you off the list to make more time for the locals. The menu is quite simple but I'm sure everything is good. We ordered fish n chips, buffalo wings and ahi salad. The fish n chips tasted fresh (fresh batter) and crispy. It was busy but not super crowded. I can see how this place is poppin tho Thur - Sat night. Food: We tried the fried zucchini and buffalo wings. The fried zucchinis are big pieces of fresh zucchini, lightly battered and fried. The vegetable on the inside still has a tiny crunch to it, which is awesome. The table next to us ordered the fried mozzarella sticks, they looked SO good. I will def try them next time! The buffalo wings had a medium-hot spice level. I'd say a lil spicier than your average buffalo, but GOOOOOOOODD! Again, the fry was light. Chicken was cooked thru and still juicy. Ambiance: Your typical sports bar. You can sit at the bar or at high tops. Theres free popcorn and peanuts. Gotta love free peanuts! Service: Besides the quality of food, I was most pleasantly surprised by the service. I'd say the level of service provided is more comparable to a sit-down restaurant, less a dive-bar. If I can't sit at the bar it's awkward to try and order and have to yell over people.
