I have been eating at Mustards since they build the store. I never had problems dinning in. Having GrubHub deliver the food, is something I will no longer be doing. I ordered a burger and fries asking for the meat to be WELL DONE. It wasn't. I was hungry and ate it anyway. What can it hurt? The taste? I ate and 20 minutes later I was having a relationship with the toilet. If you ask customers how they want their meat cooked, then a restaurant better cook it that way! I enjoy Mustards food, but they obviously don't care to check how someone wants they beef cooked. Was it an oversite and one time mistake? Who knows? I won't be eating beef there anymore. This was the worst breakfast I've ever had at a restaurant. I ordered the egg and cheese panini and a cup of tomato soup. The "panini" was just a piece of dry baguette toasted with egg and some cheddar cheese. It was the most dry flavorless $10 dollars I've ever spent. How could they even have this on the menu? I thought that I had found a little jewel of a place to help out with the same old, same old doldrums, but after about a month and a half of going to this place I have to close the book on it. To be honest, the ingredients they use are top notch, the problem is the employees can't get the order right. The last three out of five times they got it wrong, with the last time being the worst. This is what I ordered: Roast beef on multigrain bread, mustard, mayo and swiss cheese ONLY! This is what I got: Roast beef on a roll, with onions, blue cheese crumbles and a smattering of mustard and mayo and sliced onions. Came here after a 10 mile hike in the Laguna Wilderness looking for a sandwich to refuel us. Created my own sandwich (pepper turkey, brie, avocado, yellow mustard) and it was quite delicious. Girlfriend's sandwich was the Hample, which she said was good, but came out several minutes after mine. That really was our only complaint. Since we came in on a weekend around 3 PM, they weren't very busy. But it seemed to take the kitchen quite a while to get food out. We loved Mustard Cafe! Visited last weekend while out in Newport, one of our fave places to go on the weekend. Wanted to try something new as we normally eat at Coliseum Grill at Pelican Hill. Did a quick Yelp search and was immediately impressed by the positive reviews and photos of the restaurant. This place is not what it used to be and has really gone downhill recently. The ordering process is long and the employees taking the orders are slow. The food seems to have also gone down in quality. It used to be a nice, convenient cafe to get a decent breakfast burrito or sandwich. came here after a nice hike at the nearby buck gulley trail. their photos looked so yummy so i decided to stop by! it's your basic breakfast/brunch/lunch place with sandwiches, salads, omelettes, pancakes, etc. after looking at all their photos i settled on the 222 breakfast and my friend got the avocado omelette. the 222 was great because as much as i love a savory breakfast, i also like a sweet treat to end a meal! their french toast was pretty yummy and came with strawberries :) my friends omelette also looked great and came with bread and fruit. coffee comes with free refills and don't forget to check in for a free cookie! i got the chocolate chip and it was very chocolate-y. the only gripe i had was i felt for the price you didn't get very much food. i've definitely paid for a similar meal where i walked out feeling fuller. however, i think they probably use local ingredients which is why the price may be higher and their fruit did seem pretty fresh. i would probably stop by here again if i was in the area, but i don't think i'd come out of my way to have breakfast when there are soo many other brunch places to try in the oc! read more

We stopped here on our way down to Laguna for the day. We order the Cali-Italian sandwich with pasta salad and a chocolate chip cookie. It started out great because the cookie was good. Our food took forever to come out and when checked on put order they just kept saying it was coming. Everyone that ordered after us kept getting there food. Ours still came out much later. The sandwich and pasta salad were both terrible. The bread was so dry it just fell apart and the pasta salad has no dressing or flavor. Everything tasted like it was not fresh and day old. I've been here many times and have always had a pretty good experience. Today, however, was very disappointing. I ordered a breakfast plate and received fruit that was really old and bacon that was so over cooked that if you tried to bite it, it crumbles into a 1000 pieces. I asked for them to replace my two slices of terrible bacon and they brought out ONE new slice that was just as bad as the first piece. Totally inedible. Very nice cafe and the business have done very well to social distance the guests inside the cafe when ordering, they also have done very well to prevent cross contamination. Veryyyyy cute and quaint cafe in Newport Coast. They are so perfect for a weekend brunch and if you don't want to come for brunch, breakfast is served all day so it is perfect :) They do tend to get very busy Saturday and Sunday mornings so we usually just call a to go order in about 30 minutes in advance and pick it up to eat at home! I usually tend to lean toward the breakfast items such as the waffles and French toast, they are both equally so awesome. I can't even decide which one I love more!!!! Also when I get these I add fruit on top to make it even more yummy. I have never ordered the eggs but my friends have they also seem super yummy, I would most definitely try those! They have an assortment of drinks from different kinds of teas to coffees. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but I have tried the lattes are they are pretty good and not too strong for me!!! If I could give this place negative stars I would. It's too bad because it really looked good. My wife and I stopped there at 10:10 am yesterday morning for a bite. We had just flown in from AZ for a funeral memorial service. The service was at 11 am about 2 miles away. My wife ordered a bagel w lox and I ordered an omelette. There were 2 people eating on the patio and 1 eating inside. Nobody in line. We ordered at 10:10 and took a table on the patio. Over the next 25 minutes while we sat with no food 4-5 others came in ordered to go got their food and left. I got up several times to look in the kitchen there were 2 people cooking and making food. I asked what the holdup was and was told they would bring it to us when it was ready. After checking 4 times for our food I looked at my watch and it was 10:50. 40 minutes no food and It wasn't even busy. We had to leave for the service so basically they got $29 for two bottles of water and no food. To make things worse the girl working the counter taking orders attitude was flippant and care free. She couldn't care less. I only gave it one star because I had to add a star to post this. Whoever the owner is you counter girl yesterday really did you a disservice! read more

Love the food, but the overall experience is hit and miss. For example, sometimes they're be out of all but one flavor of potato chips. That's just weird. Regardless, the place is always chill and I keep coming back for those chicken pesto paninis -- even though a full lunch (sandwich, chips, and drink) cost almost $13. What are you going to do? It's Newport Coast. You have to pay a price to bask in the presence of all those exotic sports cars in the parking lot. Bonus star for the outdoor seating via standard-issue Irvine Company patio furniture.
