Omgosh! Went to the Mustard Cafe on Sunday. It's a cute little Cafe with seating on a large patio. Dogs were welcome. I ordered a cappuccino and Eggs Benedict. The cappuccino was hot, strong and creamy. My eggs benedict were cooked to perfection. Perfectly poached and the hollandaise sauce was buttery and lemony. Delicious. I must mention our waiter. His name was Dylan. This kid looks like he has so much drive. All of the patio tables were full. He was the only server on duty. This guy had complete control of the restaurant with ease. Delivering food on time, taking phone orders, waiting on everyone w a hussle! I was amazed. He couldn't have been over 19. What a great waiter! read more

Really good food here. Order at the counter and take a seat. I tried this cafe for the first time and will go back if I am in the area again. Indoor and outdoor seating available. The efficient staff bring your food to your table when it is ready. There is a steady stream of customers, so I am pretty sure it is a local favorite. The price for what I ordered was listed at $7.00. When I went to pay, I was told that the menu hadn't been updated and the price was actually $10.00. There is absolutely nothing on the menu to indicate that it was an accurate. Make sure you ask before you order. Pretty sleazy practice! read more

So sad. This place used to be really good! Today was not one of those days. The only saving grace is the fact that they serve Lavazza brand coffee. Food overall sucked. Lentil soup lacked flavor, roasted chicken and tomato pannini was dry, my daughter's chicken pesto pannini tasted like the grill hadn't been cleaned in a month (or longer), and my wife's calamari burger was more bun than calamari. Had a nail appointment close by so looked for something close by to eat. I am always a fan of Panera or Corner Bakery so this looked like one of those places. Came here around 11:30am and it wasn't to crowded. Came with my bro and sis and we ordered: Proscuitto Sun-Dried Panini ($8.00)- Proscuitto, sun-dried tomato, basil and fresh mozzarella. Very little proscuitto, more sun dried tomato, and a couple of basil leaves. It wasn't all that great. Tasted mostly the bread and the "tomato soup" that came with it wasn't as rich and creamy as I would have liked. Tasted like it was from a can. I usually love paninis but this wasn't too great. Croque Madame ($8.80)- Black forest ham, whole grain and swiss panini, topped with béchamel and sunny-side-up eggs. Not too bad. Great experience! Came here with a friend early Sunday morning to grab breakfast. We shared some special they offered (222 plate = 2 pieces of bacon OR sausage, 2 pieces of french toast OR pancakes, 2 eggs however way you want them, and hash browns). Food isn't particularly creative (granted I only tried one thing, but I did have a chance to peruse the rest of the menu), but it's still quite good and hit the spot. I didn't have anything to complain about. The prices are fair, and the service is super friendly and absolutely fantastic. Made my morning a bit brighter :) Check in for a free cookie! This place is solid, with some room to grow ;) So many hearty breakfast and lunch options from omelets to burgers. I got a cracked pepper turkey sandwich... it was juicy and delicious and served on some kinda pretzel roll. The pasta salad on the side was really good but served in a ketchup container. I'd love some more of that stuff! The staff was overwhelmingly kind! They make ya feel like family right away. Came here post hike on a Sunday morning. The cafe itself is nice and clean and there are plenty of tables outside. The food was good and priced fine but I didn't think anything stood out or was "special". My ham and cheese panini was good but very small and felt like something I could make at home. It came with a very small container of what I thought was a type or marinara dipping sauce but turned out to be tomato bisque soup?? The abc omelette has all the melted cheese on the outside not mixed in and avocado sliced on top. All the items we ordered looked like things we could make at home. Arsi is the absolute man, he runs a tight ship and he is very personable and talks to his tables and interacts with his customers on such an amazing level. I had a very pleasant experience. The burrito was incredible. They also ensure the interior isn't overly crowded while you order your food (to account for social distancing). Used to be good years ago. Now the panini tastes like it was made on a dirty grill with old used oil. And very little meat (and not great quality), and practically no condiments used on the sandwich. Tasteless sandwich other than the rank smell and taste of old dirty oil. A big disappointment. My guess is the original owners sold this cafe and new owners know little to nothing about good food. The staff was working hard but I waited 10 minutes for a demanding family of 3 to order ("Are the onions organic? Where are they grown? I want them finely diced not sliced....") . After ordering and paying, I was told it would be 20 minutes. I wish they had warned everyone as they came in the front door. After 45 minutes and politely checking twice, I was about to cancel when they came out with my Club Sandwich. The sandwich was excellent with fresh and tasty ingredients. Fast forward a week later...the wait was 10 minutes so I ordered. The cashier asked "Here or to-go?". I said we were sitting outside and asked if that was "Here". I had been friendly and polite the whole time but he acted annoyed and said, "I asked 'Here, or to go'"! I told him to forget it and walked out. There were 4 others in our group and none of us are going back. Nice job losing customers!! Note to "Corporate"...you're offering a premium product in a very upscale area where people expect decent service. Had the eggs Benedict and hash browns breakfast. My drink of choice was the orange mango juice. Electrolytes and coconut water infused drink was great after a hike in Moro Canyon. Great location, awesome hospitality and plenty of parking In the plaza. read more

The service is really terrible. We placed an order online at the suggestion of friends on the way to the beach -- we were about 30min away. They didn't even start making the order until we arrived. Was about one hour to fill the order. Other folks who just walked in and ordered got their food faster. To compensate for the delay, the guy offers a large soda. Are you kidding? The response from the restaurant was that they hoped we would have empathy giving current staffing issues and they're not fast food, to come back when we have more time. Hm. I placed the order when in Riverside and was able to drive all the way to Newport and then still had to wait another 25min, with kids waiting in the car. No one has time to wait almost an hour for sandwiches. While it's not fast food, it's not really a sit down restaurant. And I do have empathy for current circumstances, but they just messed up. Being short staffed might mean a long wait but if you forgot to get around to the order, that's poor mgmt. Multiple orders (walk-in) were filled before ours. The food itself was not very good, ranking about standard corner deli. Not terrible, not great. This is surprising for something that's someone thought was good enough to franchise. The soda machine was also off. By the way, there were other customers there who were frustrated. I don't like to leave such a critical comment but they didn't own up. First off I over paid for the simple Sandwich they made. I was expecting a decent sandwich for the price I paid. It was not only disappointing but took 20 minutes for my sandwich. I came here to get a breakfast burrito after hiking the Crystal Cove trails. The breakfast burrito was good, but I didn't like how little hot sauce and salsa it came with. They only give you enough for maybe half the burrito. And I was trying my best to conserve it! I asked for some more hot sauce and salsa for myself and another person and I think they ended up charging me like $3 something for it. Their salsa is actually not bad and has cubes of fresh avocados in it. But IMO, they should've just given it for free. read more

I used to live across the street (basically) from here. I LOVE it here. The prices are definitely not for the faint (of pockets)! They only use boar's head, although that does not justify the price, but for goodness sake: This is Newport COAST! If you can afford to live here (which is/was more expensive than now living in Beverly Hills) you can afford to buy a sandwich there! I see people complaining about the price below, so what are they doing in Newport Coast? Their prosciutto sandwich made me a lover of prosciutto before I had ever traveled to New York. I have been meeting my friend at the Mustard Cafe for about two years usually ordering a sandwich...mostly tuna or pastrami. It is always good and the service is great!! Even when we go sit behind the cafe in the casual seating area they never hesitate to bring our lunch back there for us. They are always pleasant and gracious. The food is consistently good. This week I decided to try something new and set my sights on a panini. When I arrive I spotted burgers on the menu and while I would not usually order a burger at a sandwich spot I asked between the panini or burger which should I try. With no hesitation the burger was suggested and I went for it. It was fantastic and I'm picky about burgers. The fries were pretty good too. Thanks for feeding me through the pandemic. We like the food a Mustard however I just don't understand why any person who prepares anything would serve something they wouldn't eat themselves. Tomatoes seem to be a really difficult item to prepare lately. Perhaps it is just to difficult to select quality items and remove the stem or hard center as opposed to just dropping in a slicing machine. When a restaurant serves an item like this lousy inedible tomato or brown avocados, etc it erodes customer's faith in their products and their attention to detail. If they don't care about this, what else don't they care about. Maybe they think their hands are clean because they don't look dirty? Who knows. read more
