I'm still looking for a bagel that matches up to NY's Apollo Bagels and these aren't it. I got the Grampa Sam ($21) which is an everything bagel with plain schmear, nova salmon, fried capers, pickled onions, dill and lemon. The crust was too hard and there wasn't enough chew to the bagel. There wasn't enough schmear, which was too whipped and wet, and I thought that the lox wasn't plentiful enough. Right next to my to-go bakery, obv Mustard has come into my attention since few months ago when they first opened their door. The line kinda terrified me though plus some reviews saying they're out of stock pretty early in the day. Besides, the opening window was indeed relatively short. Finally making my way there, the line was actually moving swiftly even on busy weekend. Seats were limited for dining on the spot, but if you came in small group (ideally 2), it's not too bad of a wait. You'd order first, got a number, then they'd deliver your order to your table. We tried Grampa Sam, their open-faced salmon bagel served with schmear and fried capers. My husband loved the fried capers and did find it making this menu unique. I did try it and compared to other salmon bagels in town, my personal preference would fancy the others that featured more components beyond salmon and schmear. Don't get me wrong though, Mustard's pretty good and their everything bagel was yum, being at the right balance of crispy coating yet chewy inside! My fave was my own order of Harry's special, the seasonal sweet option with sesame bagel, miso honey butter, and lemon vanilla mascarpone. Quality, fresh bagels with unique fresh toppings. They don't dethrone Courage Bagels, but they're in second place for me. The male employee who took our order was kind and had a funny sense of humor. It's a small place that you have to line-up to place your order and pay. There were available seating at one of their sidewalk tables, so we enjoyed our bagels and drip black coffee (no sugar or creamer available at this place--which is fine by me because I drink my coffee black, but I'm not sure how that's going for others?). Excited to try this new bagel shop in town! They have limited hours and the lines do get quite long, so we came on a Saturday morning at 9am. We waited in line for about 10 min (third in line). We got the Uncle Dave as well as the avocado special. The food was ready in 10 min. The best part was the bagel- it's toasty on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside. The Uncle Dave had a ton of onions, generous spread, but with only one thin layer of lox. The avocado special looked so pleasing and aesthetic but the pickled sour taste was a bit overwhelming. Overall the flavors are interesting, the bread is a standout, but the bagels we had were slightly off the mark. Looking forward to trying other sandwiches. The place is super tiny with no indoor seating space but some outdoor tables. The server was super friendly and gave us a free orange cake slice which was delicious. The cucumber one with the miso spread was my absolute favorite. For a reasonable price you get such a fresh bite of the cucumber over a toasty bagel and some amazing miso spread to wrap it all together in such a magnificent combination. The chili oil also adds a nice hint of spice. My favorite by far. The salmon one was also really good. The everything bagel is also fantastic, crispy and freshly baked. The pickled onion goes super well and the cream cheese and capers make it a great classic. Not as iconic but it won't disappoint. Salmon was super fresh. Banana hazelnut bagel was not for me. There was a slight bitter taste and with the lack of sweetness it just wasn't what I was expecting for a little dessert bite. I appreciate it is not meant to be as sweet as Nutella but there was just a certain bitterness to it that I didn't love. There is limited coffee options and a few beverages offered but the flavor composition of these bagels make it a perfect choice to not feel too full after a meal and get your bagel cravings more than satisfied. FIRSTLY, you must divorce the notion of what you are eating and your expectation for what a bagel should taste like, and then your experience will be completely different! The internet feels compelled to pit Courage and Mustard's against one another for the spot of LA's best bagel, but I think Mustard's wins only with regard to their line (the lack thereof) and their lox. The lox is perfectly salty with no fishiness or stringiness and it's truly a perfect buttery bite. The other toppings are also great, with the unique take on fried capers and bright, punchy pickled onions. However!!!!! The crunch to chew ratio is insane, to the point where this sht is more of a CRACKER than a bagel. I genuinely thought my front filling was going to come out with how crunchy it was. Went on two separate occasions. First time came at around 9am. No wait no line, plenty of seating. Got the miso scallion schmear with their everything and nori bagels which didn't actually taste all too special. As we sat down, one of the servers brought a comp bag of salmon skin for the furbaby! Unique bagels with a twist. They don't toast the bagel, but somehow it's still crispy. Parking is street parking which can be a little bit of a pain. I was kind of confused with the signs. In all honesty, they're plain bagel was probably my favorite out of everything that I tried. Then Nutella and banana bagel was pretty decent too. There's not a lot of seating here. It's actually very difficult to get a seat. There's a line out the door, and the staff try to do their best to move it along, but the line is still pretty long and you will have to wait. I honestly think this is in my top three favorite bagel spots in Los Angeles currently. Courage, Jyan Isaac, and Mustard's have some of the best flavors in my opinion. I will say that Mustard's may have my favorite lox bagel next to Courage. It is really light and flavorful, but not overly fishy or smoky, and the sourdough bagel adds a nice level of chewiness to it. The staff was also very polite when I stopped in and everything was made within 10 minutes. Parking was also really easy. I was able to find a free spot right out front. There was not a line when I went in but shortly after I ordered the line was about a dozen people so I would suggest coming early or just knowing that you may have to wait a little bit depending on time. Inside is very small. It's basically an ordering counter with no tables or counter to dine inside, the only seats will be out front on the street, but most people choose to order to go. They have a pretty small menu, and they don't allow for any substitutions. I tried to add egg to one of mine, but the egg edition is only available for one of their options so you can't really mix and match their ingredients. For this visit, I chose the Grandpa Sam, which is their lox bagel and it was absolutely fantastic. As mentioned the lox was super tasty and thin, and I enjoyed every part of it. The fried capers were an especially great touch. I also tried the Deanna Michelle and loved that as well. The Persian cucumbers mixed with vinaigrette was particularly delicious. This place is good! My friend and I got there by like 12 PM ish and they close at 1. Some bagels were sold out but I kind of expected it since it's been a hot spot lately so we ended up getting Deanna Michelle and Family Meal. Deanna Michelle was nice, refreshing, and light. The Persian cucumbers with the lemon vinaigrette and chili oil was the perfect amount of salty, tart, and crunch. They all balance each other out. The type of bagel where you could go for another one and wouldn't get sick of. Family Style was a replacement for Grampa Sam since it was sold out. The schmear has bits of salmon in it and added extra flavor alongside the fresh dill and chili flakes. The bagels itself were so soft but with a slight crisp on the outside. I was genuinely excited to try this new bagel spot, and it ended up being a major letdown. The only redeeming quality of the bagel was the crunch, and that's where the praise ends. My boyfriend is always on the hunt for a great bagel and is often disappointed, but this time he was severely disappointed. He loves anything crunchy, so yes, the texture worked, but there was absolutely zero flavor across everything we ordered. He ordered a roasted sesame bagel with miso scallion schmear. On paper, it should've been earthy, savory, and full of depth. In reality? Completely tasteless. You couldn't detect scallion even if you were actively searching for it. We also ordered the Grandpa Sam bagel - The salmon was sliced so thin and bland you could barely tell it was there, and the schmear was practically nonexistent. We left unsatisfied, still hungry, and immediately craving a proper diner breakfast, never a good sign. Would I go back? Absolutely not. Standing in a cramped space with a tiny door while people constantly shuffle in and out is uncomfortable and annoying. I got to visit their Culver City location recently in August 2025 which will eventually become their full time location. I came here specifically to finally get my hands on some bagels I've been hearing a lot about. As a layperson, I would say their bagels are a happy medium between chewy and crunchy (Montreal style?) from a texture perspective and you can definitely taste the sourdough-ness. I came a little later in the day (around 1pm?) so they were out of my first choice on the menu. No biggie. I got 'The Family Meal' - housemade nova schmear, fresh dill & aleppo pepper flakes on a nori everything bagel - to enjoy there. I also got an extra sesame bagel 'rip & dip' style (basically a bagel with a container of their butter) so I can enjoy later or the next morning. I really enjoyed both bagels. I do love the taste of sourdough and it's not subtle here. The bagels are aesthetically pleasing and most importantly, just plain delicious. The folks here are very, very friendly as well. The bagels in the display looked amazing -- super pretty, fresh, and honestly had me thinking this was going to be my new go-to bagel place. Immediately greeted with a warm welcome. The inside is small and has a little walk up counter to order but nowhere to sit inside. The prices are definitely on the higher side, but we decided to pre-order some bagels and cream cheese to-go and give it a fair shot. I usually judge a bagel place by their everything bagel (my all-time favorite), and unfortunately... it was a little underwhelming. I love a good sourdough-style bagel with a crunchy outside, but this one was almost too crunchy all the way through, without enough softness or chew on the inside. It felt more hard than balanced. Dare I even say a little burnt? That being said, the cream cheeses were delicious and probably the highlight for me. We tried the plain and salmon cream cheese (up charge). We also tried the Nori bagel and I wasn't a fan. The flavor was way too fishy for my taste and just didn't work for me. I've had many, many bagels in my day as a food considered standard in my culture. Lemme tell you, THIS bagel is truly unique and the texture alone is well worth it. I got the Miles Andrew, everything bagel with schmear, and a plain. The "crust" on this type of bagel makes it really special and satisfying, albeit it can also make it a little challenging to get a clean bite. The Miles Andrew is really, really good (vegan if that matters to you) and the pickled shallots give it the perfect balance. I will absolutely try others on the menu! I thought these sourdough crispy bagels were pretty unique! I've never had sourdough bagels before, but I did find them a bit hard to chew. If you like a Big Crunch, you'll probably like these. I ordered the Summer Tomato Special (surprised these were still on the menu but apparently it was their last week). Feels reminiscent of the Furikake tomato sandwich recipe from the NYT but on a bagel! I didn't like how big the tomatoes and cucumber were sliced though because it made it hard to eat, and it ended up sliding off my bagel too. That's always my complaint with these open faced sandwich styles, I always think they need to be thinner cut or else I always need a fork. I guess at least they're pretty generous with the toppings.
