But I'm knocking another star down because the bagel was a bit on the chewier side and came out a bit burnt, possibly because it was sliced uneven. My expectations were definitely not met. I was so excited to try their bagels due to the great reviews. I ordered The Laika whole. The smoked salmon came in a generous portion, the cream was good and the pickled onion and capers were fresh. The Everything bagel was the problem, it was very hard to chew, close to being rubbery. It was disappointing. My cappuccino was good but the Matcha drinks we had were very milk down, I can't taste the Matcha at all. I'm glad I read the reviews on here about parking because there's a garage across the street that has free parking for 2 hrs which is hard to find in LA! I love bagels so I was excited to try Layla. The line was long but moved at a good pace. I had a half Laika and half everything with schmear. The everything with schmear was very plain. The bagel was flavorless and the cream cheese was very mild. It wasn't a good bagel I think Layla bagels is less of a bagel shop and more of a sandwich shop. The Laika was amazing. Fresh toppings that are flavorful and aesthetic. The toppings are the star here while the bagel and spread are supporting. If all tomatoes tasted as juicy and umami as the heirloom tomatoes on the Scarlett, I would be the hugest tomato fan. The Laika did not feel any different than a lox bagel I would make on my own, but the pre-jam with fig and pomegranate when I visited the first time was spectacular. Some of the flavor combinations I would not come up on my own, so I think part of what you're paying for is the creativity and the other part is the freshness. The bagels are very chewy overall. The toppings fall off easily (my dad and the person next to him learned this the hard way). Courage has more flavor but this feels more fresh. The line also moves significantly faster. They source their ingredients from the farmers market, so I'd recommend going for produce-based bagels. read more

Who doesn't love a hot fresh bagel on a Sunday morning? If you're on this side of town, you have to get your fix at Layla. I'm not a fruity bagel kind of gal but here they do make it look good. My favorite regular bagel is the sesame. Be warned you will use the napkins and wet wipes available at the counter if you order the Spicy B.E.C. The Spicy B.E.C. has a nice kick but not too spicy. They have some holiday drink options, so I went with the White Mocha Raspberry matcha. Be prepared seating is limited but there are communal tables. Even with the long lines, the team is friendly. Tip: Place your order ahead of time so you can try to grab a seat as soon as you get there. read more

Love this location so much more than Santa Monica. It's easy to access, has great indoor and outdoor seating, and the line moves quick. Lots of merchandise and vibrant energy in this location. Service is brilliant! These bagels packed so much flavor. The savory one with smoked salmon has to be my favorite. I didn't think I would like the sweet one either but the kiwi and pomegranate are such a good combo. It seemed packed when I went but it wasn't bad at all. I had visited their location over on Ocean Park a couple years ago, enjoyed it, but rarely go out that way so it's certainly been a while. Not knowing they had this location until I physically walked by it, I figured I was due for one of their bagels. Considering it was around 2p, I usually eat these in the morning but there's obviously no hard rule on this, so I placed my order for a plain bagel with salted butter on the side. Total was $6.50, and I had to wait about 5 minutes or so. There were more than a few people in-store, and in addition to mobile orders, I can see why the wait was a little longer. They also offer bagel sandwiches and such which is what most people were probably ordering this time of day. This was a really good bagel; I do remember enjoying them the last time, but I savored this during the drive I had. They had some decent looking coffee drinks as well, but I figured it was too late for me. Service was lukewarm at best, but could have been worse. Even though Pops bagels is up the way on Beverly, Layla's will be another choice. read more

Both honestly were good; however, after 7 minutes, the bagels got hard and cold. I would highly recommend to either eat it asap or at least within 5 minutes. I've had other bagels from our other places in the Bay Area and even after bringing it home or doing take out, it still tastes good but for some odd reason here, the quality quickly decline the longer you wait. As someone with food sensitivities, finding a place that actually gets it right is rare and Layla Bagel absolutely does. This is one of the very few spots where I can enjoy a truly delicious gluten-free bagel without feeling like I'm compromising. The Scarlett is my absolute fav! Their gluten-free bagel options (I get the everything) with cashew cream cheese is seriously amazing. It doesn't feel like a "substitute" at all it's just straight-up good food. I was catching up with a friend on a rainy day and grabbed the salmon on a jalapeño cheddar bagel. The toppings were super fresh and full of flavor the dill, pickled onions, cucumbers, and salmon all hit perfectly. Bagels are one of my favorite foods, so I was excited to try it. Parking wasn't too bad either, although it was metered street parking, it was easy for us to find a spot right across the street! The Laika was a good smoked salmon experience with the added treat of pickled onion. A little tricky to eat without things falling off, but delicious. The Pre-Jam, however, was a game changer. For the fall, the Pre-Jam has blackberry, guava honey, and cream cheese. I've never had a bagel like this and I am still thinking about it 24 hours later. That said, I'm not sure I would have been able to eat two halves of this, so I'm glad I was able to divide and conquer! I came at 11:30am on a weekday and found no line. By the time I left at noon, there was a line to the door. I really like that you can order half bagels and ordered a Laika and a Scarlett. The Laika ($9), with smoked salmon, went a little overboard with the pickled onions and was hard to eat, but still good. The Scarlett ($7) had heirloom tomato slices, cream cheese, chili flakes and lemon zest. The bagels were nice and chewy - definitely not stale like some other reviewers found. I made a mess eating but luckily there were wet naps that you could use to clean your hands (as well as a public restroom).
