This place is misleading & borderline a scam. This is NOT really the same H&H bagels from the famous NYC/Seinfeld.... The original company had to file for bankruptcy due to tax evasion and shutdown. Then, some Wall Street guy bought the trademark and made this new chain. The NYC shop would be ashamed of this place. My bagel wasn't even toasted. Not worth it.

Stopped in for my first time today and overall had a great experience and delicious bagel. The ordering system here is a little bit clunky and disorganized. Also after we ordered the guy at the register disappeared so we pretty much stood there for 10 minutes while the line built up until someone had to come over and check us out, aside from that experience was nice. Parking can be a bit tricky, but we were able to find a metered street spot directly in front of the restaurant and opted to get everything to go, but they do have many tables inside to sit down and eat so dining in is an option. The menu is pretty large and they have all sorts of bagel shop classic options on there. The staff was friendly and aside from waiting to pay everything that we ordered was made very quickly. For this visit, we chose the Lox bagel, the Avocado, Egg, & Cheese and the Bacon, Egg, & Cheese Bagel. We also tried the Blueberry Bagel with the Cookie Cream Cheese, and that was especially sweet and fantastic. All of the bagels we ordered were fresh and each of the three were very good and we would definitely order them again. Bagel sandwich was very good. 5 stars for how they made it exactly like I wanted - a little butter on one side, a little cream cheese on the other, plus bacon and egg. Love that they use actual eggs vs folks who microwave their eggs -ew. Stars start coming off due to how long it took to make (after ordering) and the friendliness of the staff (low), not great selection of drinks (at least the coffee was good), and the pricing (high). I'd go back for sure, but honestly I would only go if I was too far from Hank's where they have more inventive bagels (I mean not having a Salt Bagel is kind of criminal, but I love the other cool flavors they have). Bagels always very good and makes me long for the NY version I always loved, but the service needs help! I swear I've never had an order correct. I ask for easy cream cheese; it's heavy. I ask for it toasted: NOPE! The staff looks disorganized and the glass barrier at ordering is not conducive to them hearing the order correctly. Once I ordered on-line a large party box to go. At the specified pick-up time, It was sitting up at the counter and I could not get the attention of any one behind the counter to even look up or acknowledge that I had been waiting in line while the order just sat there. They never even called out that the order was ready. The head guy is very friendly but the staff really needs to be more organized. Found myself on Montana yesterday after gifting my 14 yo pal Gordy a birthday gift of Beatles Collectibles that blew his mind... he is one exceptional artist and shares my love of the Beatles especially John and George. 10:30 am is a perfect time to "bagel" without crowds. Last time I reviewed H&H, I was disappointed that I couldn't sample their spicy scallion cream cheese ... today I decided to buy a small amount and my favorite vegetable cream cheese. I figured I could mix a little of the spicy scallion with it. I was right. It is extremely spicy and mixing it gave it the right kick. Their bagels are amazing ( texture is perfect). The folks behind the counter were lovely ( even the grumpy guy from my last experience was smiling ) Parking at that time is a lot easier than early morning... Definitely happy with my purchases! These are more round bread than bagels. I grew up in NY. I know from bagels. H&H was never my favorite, but when I heard they were expanding to Santa Monica, I was excited. Unfortunately, the actual bagels didn't deliver on their promise. I've now had their bagels twice and I've been disappointed twice. The bagels are apparently par-boiled and frozen at a central production facility in Queens, and then shipped to the Santa Monica store where they finish the baking process. It seems like this system might benefit from some refinement. Or maybe they can make the bagels from scratch here in LA. I really wanted to like this place, but I'm just not that into it. I went to H & H early one morning to see what the hype was all about. I ordered a classic bacon, egg & cheese on an everything bagel. It was a pretty good bacon, egg & cheese. The egg was cooked well and the cheese was nice and gooey. The bacon was pretty good. The presentation was a bit sloppy. The bacon was sliding out of the sandwich. The everything bagel was meh. It wasn't a very good bagel in my opinion. I've had better Everything Bagels in LA. I also got the Jalapeño Cheddar Bagel which I liked a lot. Probably because it was loaded with cheese, but it was soft and chewy and a pretty good bagel. The smear of Cream Cheese was lacking especially when you consider the price point. The bagel with Cream Cheese costs $5.70 which is pretty high even for Santa Monica. The coffee was nothing to write home about. It was piping hot. You make it to your liking on your own. There's no sleeve for the cup. The cup is thicker than your average coffee cup, but its still a bit hot to touch. So be careful! When I first saw this spot it was the grand opening and there was a hugee line, so I came back again to try it. I believe this place is originally from New York and is well loved over there. I got the spicy sausage egg & cheese bagel sandwich which was pretty good, I'd recommend it but ask for a little less of the cream cheese, and add salt and pepper. There was a long line when we got there, but luckily we ordered for pickup so we didn't have to wait. The sandwich was good but I wouldn't say it's worth the wait in the line, so I recommend ordering online ahead of time. Will come back to try their other items again. read more

This is my second time here. The bagels are good but service is very slow. They have not 1 or 2 but 4 people behind the counter. Given I was the only customer in line and I had to wait 15 minutes just to place my order was unacceptable. I was about to leave when the manager/help staff finally asked me if I had been help. I understand it's hard to find good people now and they are still about 3 weeks new. I would wait a few months before visiting just because they are very very slow. Suggestions: Perhaps they can have one person be in charge of taking the orders, two people making the food, and one person checking customers out at the end of the counter by the register. My suggestion is to have a cashier at the end and he/she can hand over drinks such as coffee while the customer is waiting for the food to be prepared. The cashier at the end can also give the customers any bagels that don't require any toasting or preparing. That will reduce the waiting time for customers who only need a bagel and a drink and give the waiting customer their coffee first. Also, have a separate place/shelf for Door Dash orders so people picking up DoorDash don't have to wait in line. Right now, each staff is doing everything. And if all of them are making sandwiches individually then no one can help a customer until that staff is done. That's what I observed while I was there. I saw people working hard. I just think the process can be improved for better efficiency and overall customer experience. read more

Not bad, I don't eat bagels but they got free coffee w purchase today and tomorrow. Another cafe in SaMo. Plus coffee next door too AND Starbucks across the street. So many coffee shops here. They have dog biscuits so they're dog friendly. Didn't know it's an NYC chain, makes sense, bagels are popular there lol. I did get to try the egg bagel which I've never heard of. The bagels were something I was excited to try after seeing this is the NYC bagels brand that was featured in "Seinfield" and "Sex and the City" and this is the first ever location here in the West Coast, city of Santa Monica! We came here on their 3rd day of opening, and at around 1PM we were told all the plain bagels were already sold out for the day. After reassurance that the bagels are all nut-free for allergies, I chose the "Everything" bagel and picked the Classic option (bacon, egg, and cheese). My boyfriend, a NY bagel lover, ate his "Asiago Cheese" bagel Classic style as well, and though that the bagel was missing something. I attended the Grand Opening at 5:30am and was lucky #7 in line! By 5:50am, the line almost reached Lincoln Blvd. First 200 received a tote bag with a gift card inside, I got $5! I was getting a lot of ads when this place opened a few months ago but haven't made it out to the place until recently. I was surprised by the 3 star rating before going but now I see why. I came early on a Friday around 8 am and they did not have any everything bagels. Maybe because they just opened but they should probably be stocked then? The service was very slow despite not having a line. The employees seem to be busy working on online or preorders. He talked super quickly and seemed a bit rushed when I was talking to him. If you've been to H&H bagels in New York, you will definitely appreciate the southern California version of it. Come off hours or you will be waiting in line for a long time and your bagel could be sold out. We came at about 11 o'clock on Sunday and brought our Golden doodle with us. We have better bagels in LA. The lox schmear was sparse which was not the case when I went to NYC and had a bagel at Liberty Bagels. I was told authentic NYC bagels go crazy on the cream cheese. I don't think I would go out of my way to eat here at H&H again. If you're in the neighborhood, maybe. I've had bagels in Montreal at Ste-Viateur and NYC (Ess-A-Bagel, Liberty Bagels, Olde Brooklyn Bagel Shoppe), and not much of a fan of H&H Bagels. If you check the Yelp reviews, people don't really like H&H Bagels on Yelp -- an exception for the original location in the UES. We have plenty of great bagels in LA these days. Dare I say some of the best bagels in the country with new aces popping up all the time -- the competition is getting fierce. I love Saint-Raf in Cypress Park and Tomorrow Bagels at Hollywood and Newhall Farmers Market. Maury's and Hank's are solid options as well. Go, if you're curious like me, but ask for extra schmear for the NYC experience. By coincidence, I was in New York twice over the last three months. Bagel shop (yes that's what it's called) at 93rd and 3rd. We took the bus 40 blocks to have a sandwich here and it was more than worth it. Fantastic bagel and this turkey was good too. Ess a Bagel. Excellent bagel and will definitely go back here many times. Zuckers. Finished third in the group, but that still means it was fantastic. H&H holds its own with any of these places. It just has that flavor and substance. The shop is really nice looking. It was very crowded because it was the first Saturday that they were opened and they were out of several flavors which kind of sucked. They were out of plain and that is the benchmark I use to judge so I will definitely need to go back. The staff was extremely friendly and patient. Parking is always a challenge in this area. We drove out here after hearing it out. Unfortunately they were out of the egg bagel and the plain bagel, but I chose to pick 2: the Asiago Cheese and the Jalapeno Cheddar. I ate the Asiago Cheese first and felt something was missing?? I realized I didn't taste any salt, pepper, and ketchup, which to me isn't it supposed to be a staple in those bagels?? So when I ordered a second time, the Jalapeno Cheddar bagel, I actually requested for those missing ingredients and it is much better-- overall making me enjoy eating that bagel more. I recommend for you guys to add those ingredients too. I also want to note that the cheese given is plenty and not skimpy!!! I am super sad they are out of the egg bagels (my favorite!!) unfortunately as they are fluffy to me. I was also disappointed they were out of iced coffees, saying they only had cold brew. Highly disappointed with the new H&H in Santa Monica. I too used to go to the old H&H in NY on 81st St. This new iteration is nothing like it. 1. Service, while friendly, was terribly slow. I walked in on Tuesday afternoon and all of the employees looked like they were in slow motion. The line was about 4-5 customers deep (not busy) and the guy working the counter and the girl working the grill were going at half speed. Again, they were friendly, but looked confused like they didn't know where things were, what they were doing, etc. Maybe they were new? I know the place just opened, but food service should be "chop chop". Especially a sandwich type line. Took way too long to get an order placed. 2. The Bagels- I don't know what these are, but they're not NY style bagels. Very bready, and just BLAND. I had an everything bagel toasted with cream cheese. It was barely warm, and both the bagel itself and the "everything" toppings on the outside were flavorless! I couldn't quite tell what their "everything" is, but it looks like there are grains, or oats on them? The outside should have a sharp garlicky, salty, oniony kick. Not these. My friend had a sesame and same thing- no flavor. What are you guys putting on your Everything Bagels? Lose the oats, add more seeds, onion, garlic, and some salt! We both took a couple bites and looked at each other and shook our heads. They weren't worth the calories. We tossed them and left. I was very excited for H&H to open. I won't be going back. It seems the emphasis here is on their sandwiches. I've never seen bagels as sandwich bread. I suppose if you stuff a bunch of eggs, cheese, meats, lettuce, etc in between one of these, then you don't miss the actual bagel flavor. There's a bagel renaissance going on in LA right now with solid NY style bakeries and numerous high-end indie spots. I had read the early reviews here and generally don't expect much of bagels in LA, but I am astounded by how bad the bagels here were. They don't resemble what you find at H&H in New York in the slightest. Texture is way off but the most offensive quality is how sweet they are. There is nothing pleasant about eating a sweet onion bagel. And as others have shared, service is insanely slow - it took about three times as long as it to have to get three whole bagels in a sack to go in a shop that was totally empty. Very disappointing experience. When I arrived the store was empty, there was no excuse for bad customer service, there was no smile or greeting, I felt like an annoyance to be there. I let a few people in front of me while I decided and my friend used the restroom. When it was my turn there was attitude with the guy taking my order and it seemed again like a bother. I was rushing to not be annoying and they didn't ask me if I wanted my bagel toasted. My friend did get asked if she wanted hers toasted. They then didn't give me what I ordered. Why would they display pictures of one thing and then serve another with no communication. Don't recommend and won't return. Bad ambiance and the bagels were so not worth it. Very stale. read more
