I was craving some tamales and had an hour to spare before I had to pick up my bf. So I decided to stay nearby his jobsite and explore this little hole-in the-wall. When I walked in I was completely surprised! Like, I literally smiled walking in. It was colorful, full of awesome little photo frames aligned randomly on the wall all of famous Mexican actresses/actors from all kinds of eras.( Some would say it has vintage-look to it). And few splashes of color. It definitely made me happy to walk in on something that represent my culture. I was greeted by two ladies, in Spanish. Which I loved! Very friendly. I let them know it was my first time and they were very welcoming. I ordered an horchata, two tamales (1 de raja con queso the other red/pork) and a torta de milanesa. (Before you judge me I gave a tamal and the other half of my torta to my bf lol) I was impressed with the quickness, service, and quality of my food. Will definitely recommend and go back! Thank you! You know what they say about holes in walls restaurants - 30-30 meets expectations. It has great food, great but tiny inside, rich ambiance that you wouldn't really be able to tell from the outside. Right across from LACUSC Medical Center so convenient to grab a quick late lunch. Chicken tortilla soup was savory with plenty of tortilla strips to add texture. So it's hard for me to write a fair review because the food is hit or miss. I work nearby and have ordered from here at least a dozen times. I normally get chicken tacos and a side of guacamole/chips. The guacamole is always good but the chicken is always cooked differently. Oh the green sauce is really good though! Two pork tamales for $3 flat! For $1.50 each, they're definitely good size tamales! The taste of the tamale was alright, but the thing that really made it GOOD was their salsa... especially their RED salsa! There's a choice between the red and the green salsa. The green salsa resembles a watered down guacamole. The red salsa is the typical salsa Mexican joints give. The reason why this red one is sooooo good is because you can tell this is homemade since there's still remnants of the soften chile skin in the salsa. They both pack good heat, but the green one ends with a smoother finish. It's probably a good salsa for their other menu offerings. For eating the pork tamale, I preferred the red one since it's almost like the stuff they use to marinate the meat in. I got my order to-go, but I will definitely consider eating at the restaurant next time. It feels like a small mom and pop place and the folks that work there are pretty nice. Was there today for lunch after a business meeting at the hospital across the street. This is one of those places you would walk by a thousand times and never go in. Our client at the hospital recommended it and we tried it and loved it. Fantastic salsa and mole's on the table make it special. I had a huarache and my colleague had a wet burrito. The food here is bomb! The service was a little slow on our last visit but nothing good food & good conversation couldn't fix! The Chilaquiles rojo were absolutely delicious and you can't beat they're Cafe de Olla. Like I said the service was slow and they were having an issue with their soda machine but the server offered us free tasters of their agua frescas to accommodate, the food was amazing so I didn't mind the wait. My boyfriend and I were in the area and were craving good Mexican food, he had been here before so we decided to come here. It's across the street from the hospital, and at first i didn't see it because I didnt see the sign for the restaurant. But nonetheless we finally got there. It's a very small restaurant. I think there was about 6-8 tables in total. You walk in and sit wherever you want. The gentleman that was at the counter came and gave us our menus and took our order for our drinks. I got an horchata since it's my favorite Mexican drink ever. And it was good. Some places will either have it too watered down or way too sweet, this one was perfect. And I love how they add cinnamon at the top. He came back about 5 minutes later and took our food order down. I got the carne asada wet burrito, with red chili sauce. I'm not a fan of super spicy food so I asked if the green or red sauce were spicy. And he reassured me that the green one was spicy, so i took the red sauce. Our food took about 10-15 minutes to come out. But they bring you chips and 4 different kinds of salsas while you wait! I loved the green salsa, I forgot the name but it was reallly good! Okay back to my dish, inside the burrito there was carne asada, rice and beans. And it was smothered in red sauce with a looottt of cheese! Just how I like it! It was very good. Exactly what I was craving!! The total bill for two people was $18 without tip. Which is a great deal! This place is a small family ran business. They pay attention to the little details and it goes a long way. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because he didn't check up on us after our food was there. But it got kind of busy and he was the only one waiting tables. So it's ok. Parking is a bit of a hassle. You can't park ride outside the restaurant. Let me just say, I'm sad. Btw this is my very first time coming here. I came to this spot with my bf before work. It's 12 and we had just got inside. It's 12:10 when we finally got our order taken. As we wait we noticed those 4 people (who came AFTER US) had gotten their food. As they ate, we were still waiting. Its 12:40 and still waiting. We ordered asada fries, just 1 plate of food to share, while those who came after us ordered burritos, rice, beans, etc.. Whenever we go out to eat before I have work. We already get there an hour before I have work and we always come out 40-45 mins. Which still gives me time to get to work on time. Now it's 12:45 and we decided to get up and just pay for the 2 drinks we had ordered. Once we got in line, THOSE 4 PEOPLE decided to GET UP AND PAY LOL. We were like "wow". As soon as we were up to pay, one of the servers came out with our food. It's 12:50 by than. She suggested if we wanted it wrapped up to go. We declined and agreed to just pay for our drinks instead. No disrespect we really wanted to enjoy our food sitting down instead of having it to go. Since we specifically wanted to just sit and eat. Enjoy the ambience of the restaurant. I guess our server felt bad and paid for our drinks. Which I appreciate it. The food is good yet inconsistent. The family is originally from Zacatecas, Mexico and the restaurant is decorated as proof. Their signature salsa is delicious and their chunky green salsa is as well. Chilaquiles is a hit or miss. Machaca is great. My son loves their menudo. If you're dining in be ready to wait a little for your food and if you're ordering for delivery just know you'll be waiting a while. They get sudden rushes and tend to get backed up and the delivery car is not always available. Yes there's kinks but it's good ask for the lemonade! It's Super yummy! read more

I wanted to bring some tamales to a pot luck and found this place. You can order online, and that is what I did, I ended up ordering a dozen pork tamales and a dozen chicken tamales. You could also request special things online when you are ordering. The place itself is across the LA/USC hospital, you will have to look for street parking. When I arrived, I just told them my name, and showed them my printed receipt, the tamales were super hot, and the waitress gave me forks and extra sauces on the sides. The restaurant is pretty small if do plan to dine in here. As for the tamales, I went straight for the pork one which had red sauce, the waitress had informed me that it was a bit spicy, but not as spicy as the green sauce one. I loved it, it was delicious, shredded pork with red sauce......and wish I had ordered 2 dozen of the pork ones. I liked the chicken one, but I think the pork one was by far better, and it showed at the pot luck because those were the first to be devoured. The chicken tamales had chicken chunks, peas, lima beans, and corn in it and was not spicy at all. I'll diffinitely be back when I have some tamale cravings, each tamale is $1.50 + tax or you could order a dozen for $17 + tax read more

We tried this place because we were at the hospital across the street and wanted a real meal not something from the cafeteria. I could not decide what I wanted to eat I just knew I wanted it to be spicy, our server was so helpful in trying to help me figure out what I wanted he even offered to make it extra spicy for me. I ended up getting the pork skin wet burrito with red and green sauce. It was delicious!!! My husband had the nachos and those were amazing too. I will definitely be making the drive back out to l.a again soon ( I'm from the San Fernando valley) My experience was great and I'm eager to try the other things on the menu. So this place is a little hole in the wall. Found it last night on yelp. Its Family owned not very hard to find neither. The staff is very well mannered and the atmosphere is very comfortable. It's very clean neat and organized. I ordered the birra plate and the enchiladas plate. It was amazing the taste is good and the flavor is rich. I.
