This building has been around a really long time, and it has always been a diner/coffee shop. It has actually been through enough hands, that it made me skeptical over the years and kept me away. Until now. This incarnation is incredibly solid for what they do. The menu looks like any other coffee shop, but the kitchen can seriously rock out solid fare. The plates I've had are usually generous, clean and delicious. You usually won't get all three at most diners. I'm actually such a fan, that I've been coming at least once per week for the past month or so. My digs: Porterhouse Steak ($19) is damn solid, even though my piece seemed more like a bone-in NY strip, but still grub-able. A 18 ouncer or so. They don't really blast a sear on it, but it is cooked super juicy. Decent grade too and seasoned perfectly. Sides are fresh and clean and never just an afterthought. I always get the grilled veggies and potatoes. And with a decent spring mix salad, you are just not going to find a better steak in this area, at this price. Trust me! Linguisa n Eggs ($13) Classic east bay staple. Eggs are always fresh and cooked properly. I always choose their homefries as they are meaty and crisped quite nice and not overly seasoned/salty. I can actually eat all the potatoes here, which I can't do at most places. And the linguisa is nicely grilled and they give you a behemoth slab. I thought I was going to get beat by the portion one morning, but nope, I won. Vintage Burger ($12) was not too shnabby. It is a grilled sourdough burger with avocado, an ol' fave of mine. The 1/2 pound patty was so juicy that it will seep into the bread, which is money. My medium rare request was spot on. I had to season the burger a bit but with the thick, crisp bacon, not by much. The bread is a little large but nothing outrageous. I usually choose their potato salad as a side because it nice and simple, of the red potato mashed variety. Tried their Biscuits and Gravy and that was alright. The biscuits were nice and fluffy, just the way it should be. Eggs and side sausage, appropriate. The gravy was nice and creamy but just felt it could of used a few extra chunks of sausage. Actually the gravy was so creamy, it looked and tasted like chowder, just minus the clams. So if you don't mind the lighter style, this may work for you, but if you want a burlier version, you've been warned. They also have these lighter portion breakfast that are ideal if you don't want to stuff yourself silly, say like before work. I got a plate once with 1 pancake, a couple of sausage links and ONE egg. I've never seen a breakfast plate with ONE egg. But for under $10, it serves it's purpose quite well. Service is usually really efficient and friendly. I also like their coffee as it doesn't have that cheap diner taste to it. I really like this place. It's right at the end of my street and great for a quick breakfast or lunch. They have fantastic options on the menu. Last time I went I got the turkey melt and it was too spicy for my taste but if you like spice then you'll probably enjoy it! I've mostly had lunch items and want to go for breakfast more often. My wife and I started going to My Cafe, which is a few blocks from our house, about 2 years ago. We found the salmon dinner with grilled vegetables great. So we were disappointed on our last visit to see it had been eliminated. I had the almost tasteless meat balls. We got the bill for $34 and I gave them my credit card. After signing the credit card receipt I noticed a 3% add on for using the credit card. Sneaky and against Visa policy. I asked for the manager and after a while they said he had left. I've been looking for cornbeef hash as good as country way and I think I found it at My Cafe! I had the cornbeef hash benedict and it was all my favorite things in a breakfast. I know I may be an outlier, but I think that cornbeef hash is best when it's the canned version (lol). But what I think My Cafe has above all other breakfast places is the AMAZING hashbrowns. They're thick and crispy so you get the amazing crunch while not feeling like you're eating chips. The servings are perfect amount too! We got the breakfast burrito with GRAVY on top (aka game changer) and it was pretty awesome! It was definitely more of a breakfast scramble inside but OH SO GOOD! read more

DECENT FAMILY DINER About a month ago after I came back from Tahoe I wanted to have dinner. The last time I came back from Tahoe last September I ate at Sinodino's Restaurant for my birthday. I was craving for steak. Since the steaks are aged at Sinodino's their steaks tend to be pricy. I didn't want to pay too much steak. There was another place close to Sinodino's that serves steak that isn't aged. My Cafe Diner is a family run style restaurant. With all the trends of hipster style or food chain eateries in the suburbs it's refreshing to see a simple, family diner. For a diner the menu seems abundance yet the items here are classic diner items not trendy or hipster. I came here for the steak in the case the porterhouse, which is my favorite cut of steak. I also ordered chicken wings and coleslaw in the side. For the steak dinner you get a side of salad and garlic bread. This seems like a filling dinner and it was. Even though the porterhouse isn't aged I liked how it was cooked rare. The steak was moist and delicious. The porterhouse filled me really well. After a long drive from Tahoe it just made sense of going to a local diner near me where I can relax and eat. read more

Awesome café. Fresh home cooked food. From being a Sambo's in the 70's, and Baker's Square after that, this spot's now home to some decent grub. We went there on a Saturday evening, and were seated right away, as they were around half full. Most of the other customers were senior citizen couples. The menu was extensive, but they also handed us a separate sheet with specials with just enough items to choose from. I chose spaghetti and meat sauce, with chicken and rice soup as a side ($14.78), while my guest had the prawns with baked potato, vegetables and salad ($13.99). Garlic bread came with both meals. The spaghetti sauce was thick, hearty, and mildly spicy with large chunks of ground beef. The chicken and rice soup could've been been more stocky, with more chicken, but still was delectable slurping it down. The prawns were reportedly some of the best they've ever eaten. Hossna, our server, was very attentive, and never let my iced tea get down to less than half full. Good food at reasonable prices is enough to make me a repeat customer at My Café. read more

I ordered 2 breakfast meals to-go. Considering the SIP AND it being Mother's Day, there was a little bit of a wait outside(which I didn't mind). Between online orders and DoorDash/Post-mates orders some people had been waiting an hour. Although it was a little hectic the staff was efficient, helpful, and kind with many people flocking them every time they opened the door. This is my new favorite breakfast spot in this area. In addition to the regular American menu, they surprisingly have crepes on the menu as well. Also more surprisingly, the crepes are pretty good. The dessert crepes are huge and the savory crepes are loaded. My cafe looks like any regular diner when you walk in. Service was great, we had a really sweet waitress who was new to the job who was super attentive and great. Hope she retains the enthusiasm. At first, we were simply looking for a place to have some nice breakfast (despite the fact that it was well into lunch hours), and we had been meaning to try My Cafe out for a while now seeing as how it's literally around the corner from where I live. So we step in, are seated promptly by an extremely friendly waiter (I forget his name, but I won't forget his face), and we can't decide what to order. So we do what any person with common sense would do -- we turned to Yelp for help! (haha, I rhymed.) We read raving reviews about their crepes, so we quickly shifted gears and decided to try their crepes instead. And boy. Did we make the right choice. I ordered the chicken amandine crepe (chicken, mushrooms, almonds, and cheese), and my boyfriend ordered the chicken pesto crepe. I wasn't too impressed with the amandine (it was kind of an overload on the cheese and didn't taste too special), but the pesto was DELICIOUS! One of the best pestos I have ever tasted -- who would have thought I would find it in a crepe? I think I've found a new place to satisfy my crepe cravings. And they're just around the corner. I've traveled around the world and always order Eggs Benedict when I see it on a menu, just to try it. It's funny to me that the best I've ever tasted was right here, in my own backyard. No exaggeration here. I am so impressed after ordering from them for the first time. I went with a breakfast sampler style of order - a little of this and that, just to try it out. The Eggs Benedicts were perfectly flavored, well-balanced between the light Hollandaise sauce and the salty ham. The English muffin was perfectly crisped underneath. The sauce was pure perfection - not watery, but creamy as its meant to be. The side of country potatoes were crisp with a bit of spice to them (not much, just a light flavor). I ordered a side of Applewood smoked bacon - it was PERFECT (always a stickler issue for me). I hate wobbly bacon or bacon that's burned. This was nicely crisp and done. I also ordered 3 pancakes with fresh blueberries in and strawberries on top. They were plate-sized pancakes and cooked to perfection. I definitely will be ordering from them again and going to the cafe when restrictions ease up. I am impressed with these offerings and the price is right (~$15-20 a plate) for the quality. It's rare I find a restaurant I can flail about like this. I hope others give this little gem a try, too. read more

Went here for brunch this past weekend. I was told that it used to be called Beehive Cafe (Then it used to be Baker's Square before that). We went in and got seated in a booth right away. I'm actually contemplating whether to give this place a 3 or a 2 star rating. The food was good. Not the best but it is not bad. However, the service kind of disappointed me. The server who took our order (1) doesn't know how to listen very well while taking orders and (2) preferred to chat with other customers at other tables than walk around to check on us if we needed more coffee or anything else. I ordered the Steak and Eggs breakfast plate with two over-easy eggs and wheat toast. I requested for him to separate the eggs away from the steak because I don't like it mixed in one plate. He didn't listen. He served me the steak and eggs in one plate like I didn't waste my time telling him not to so clearly. But I did not complain to him because I'm just like that. I work with what I have but it was a point deducted from my review. I got spoiled at Country Way where if my coffee mug is "almost" empty, they'd pour a refill right away. Even if it was only one-fourth lower than getting full, they refill it. At MyCafe, we had to crane our neck to find a server while our mugs are empty and food getting cold. Then there he was, seated by a table talking to customers. No he was not taking orders. He was just talking to them. Flirting maybe? I know it's not my business but I did take a photo so I do have proof. We couldn't flag him down coz he was too occupied. Luckily there was another guy wearing an apron who I was able to flag down our table. We asked for refill and for a steak sauce. I would really like to give this place a three star rating because the food was okay, but I've decided to stick to two because of that unfocused server that was assigned to our table. I know how hard it is to have a server's job. I know because I've worked in a restaurant too. It is not a good trait to play around while on the clock though. Just my two cents. I called and spoke to the manager, we agreed that they would start a new order and I would pick it up because they were so busy. My Cafe Restaurant is amazing. We enjoyed our lunch yesterday at their Patio Seating. We can't wait till we dine indoors, hurry up when Alameda County permits that. The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation, very pleasing and enjoyable. This is a "Cafe" but the food that they serve at this Restaurant is much more than Cafe. The high quality and super fresh ingredients in every dish makes a huge difference in the taste. With every bite you take, you will enjoy all the flavors that the chef have prepared for you. The quantity of the food on the dishes is very satisfying and the presentation shows so much love. It is as if your own Mom cooked the meal specially for you. We looked over the menu and placed our order at the register and paid the bill. We found a booth in front and our drinks were brought to the table right away. Bacon was perfect and complimented the chicken and avocado well. Adding sliced avocado into your omelette, where could you go wrong? Fresh squeezed OJ -- worth the $4 :) Service was great, staff was very friendly and accommodating. Also, this is a very convenient eating spot after church. Two things I would criticize are that I wish the chicken breast were bits of chicken breast and not sliced lunch meat; the other was that the potatoes could have been crunchier. My husband and I decided to eat here for breakfast after doing some shopping at Home Depot. It was a little weird to order at the register since we were eating there but understandable due to the pandemic. We were then told to sit wherever we liked. Two poached eggs atop thinly sliced black forest ham on a grilled English muffin, covered with a creamy Hollandaise sauce. Occasionally the yolks are not as runny as I would prefer, but nevertheless they keep me coming back for more. They are served with your choice of potatoes or fruit. Their fresh squeezed orange juice is awesome, so why not make it a Mimosa for $7.99? It includes a 6 oz. single serving of Cook's Brut California Champagne. Yesterday, we took my mom out for breakfast at this cute diner. When you get there, you order first before you take a seat. Everything is paid for at the beginning of the meal, but you're served as per usual. The service was really good, and somebody was constantly checking if we needed anything. I actually really like this model of service because you're not tied to the table until your server comes with your check! The food stuff: I ordered a NY strip and eggs while my boyfriend got a chicken fried steak benedict. My mom ended up with the works crepe. We also ordered 2 ice teas, and 1 coffee (which weren't anything worth mentioning, but I thought I'd throw that in there). I ended up really liking my boyfriend's chicken fried steak benedict. It had chicken, a medium boiled egg, and gravy on top of a soft biscuit served with potatoes. I really enjoyed it, but my boyfriend was expecting it to be a little more benedict-like. He was being picky about the poached eggs not having a runny yolk which probably would have added to his meal. My steak and eggs had good seasoning, but it was really small for 24 dollars. Can you imagine spending 24 dollars and small, thin steak the size of a small woman's hand? I also asked for my steak to be medium, and it came out completely well done. I grew up eating steak well done, so it wasn't too big of a deal but I would suggest getting something else from the menu. My steak came with two eggs, 1 piece of toast (cut in halves), and potatoes. I was still a little hungry after, and looking back I would have rather spent 10 dollars on their french toast or pancakes or something. My mom said her crepes were only okay, and compared the actual crepe portion of her meal to Frodo Joe's kind of crepes. Any food involving meat and eggs can get a little pricey! I would say that the value is only okay compared to what your charged. Maybe we just didn't order the right things, but we'd be willing to come back and try this place out again since the food overall wasn't bad.
