There is a saying about restaurants: - if the food is good and going is an 'experience' then people will wait in line to get in. The pizza is solid, the grinders on point. I really just stopped by for a few beers while I was killing time and didn't take a great look at the rest of the menu. Definitely worth a stop if you like good beer though. They have 10 beers on tap and they are all specialty beers or microbrews. I would have liked to have stayed longer and sampled more beer but I only had 2. I also ordered the cheese plate. It had four local(ish) cheeses from small producers: aged gouda, pepperjack, honey goat, and a blue cheese. The accoutrement was very nice: toasted bread slices, crackers, grapes, pecans with a slight drizzle of something, strawberry, a tart compote and honey (with the honeycomb!). The only downside was that the pieces of the cheese were very small. Almost laughably so. Probably the worst pizza I've ever had. The service sucked - blonde kid was madd rude, not even funny rude like sarcastic, just an asshole. The nachos were mediocre at best. The atmosphere was ok, I like the way they split the bar and the restaurant, but it lacked originality. I have a working theory that people who regular this place, don't want to live any longer. All in all, if you eat here regularly, the menu's lack of imagination and healthy options will surely result in your eventual quadruple bypass, if not uber quick death. Visiting Newtown from GA, (used to live there) Mom wanted to go for lunch to the place in the post office, she remembered it from years ago. They may have good pizza and a good bar, but the rest leaves much to be desired. You enter a dark maze to find the dining area and the décor is nothing to speak of, neither is the service. The two waitresses on duty seemed more interested in sitting down & chatting than providing service. I always think it is a red flag when the wait staff takes a break in view of the customers. We were a group of ten adults and four children visiting on a Saturday night. The server was attentive and efficient. All of our meals were delicious. They gave dough to the children to shape and then it was put in the oven to be cooked for them to eat. The parents were extremely pleased that it was such a kid friendly restaurant. read more

CT has good pizza generally, but My Place is a champion among champions. I love that chewy New York-style crust. The entree dishes are usually quite good too, though nothing to write home about. The real surprise here is the beer selection. You CAN get real beer in a small town! The list is carefully curated, offering a nice mix of imports (e.g. Germans and Belgians), well-respected micros (Dogfish), and up-and-coming new breweries. I picked this place based on ratings from BeerAdvocate.com and a recommendation from Mark and Tess at Maltose Express in Monroe (a very awesome HBS store!). I'll start by saying that the overall rating of "A" at BeerAdvocate.com is well deserved. I felt welcome from the moment my wife and I walked in until the moment we left. They had 8 or 9 beers on type and too many bottled beers to count. I tried the Thomas Hooker Nor'Easter and the Sierra Nevada Celebration after trying several very generous samples of the beers on tap. The samples, by the way, are free. Mark, who was tending bar at the time, seemed to know quite a bit about the various beers and didn't mind taking the time to answer my questions about them. I thought the food was exceptional. I had a MR Texas Burger recommended by our server and it was cooked perfectly. The bun was made of some kine of pretzel bread which I had never tasted before but it really made the burger. I'll go back again just for that burger but the friendly and professional staff will make a return trip an easy choice too. What I liked best is that this place didn't break the bank. Lunch and a few drinks for my wife and I came to around $35.00. I thought this was very reasonable based on the quality of the food and the portion sizes. Craft beer + Italian food The two things that I love about My Place is their tap room (one of Newtown's best-kept craft beer secrets) and their Italian food. The atmosphere of the tap room is fun and trendy, but the restaurant has good ambiance as well. I love to try whatever's new on tap and pair it with a pizza to make my night out really special. Came here for our second and third time while in the area again for our anniversary. Mixed experience. Friday night the beer selection was great, bartender was awesome and our pizza was perfect. Ended up back here Sunday and the medium pizza I got which came to $20 was awful. Like I had gotten it from a completely diff place than Friday. There was almost no cheese on it and it was mostly crust with very limp toppings. I had to put more cheese on it myself to make it enjoyable. My partner accidentally left her bag hanging on her chair and when we called the next day to come get it the man who answered the phone was rude and hung up on her promising to call us back but never did. Luckily we just went there, walked in, didn't see anyone and found her bag and left. Not sure if we will come back next year after having such a mixed experience but with consistency this place could be 5 stars. read more

This restaurant is very average. The menu is pretty uninspired and safe. I was unsure about making my choice, since most of the dishes I could easily make at home. I ended up going with the Alfredo tortellini. It was good; definitely edible, but very forgettable. The food would receive three stars if it wasn't so overpriced! $14 for this entree was a ripoff. I was reluctant to order at first because of the price, but I figured that since it came with a salad, it might make up for it. Boy, I was wrong! The salad was meager at best, about a cups worth of sloppily chopped romaine with a few tomatoes and olives. Very lame! Very lacking in presentation and taste. Atmosphere wise, this restaurant is about as bland as its food. It looks like a typical italian place, stuck in 90s suburbia. The booths were pretty comfy though. The service wasn't bad. Most of the waitresses seemed pretty friendly, which is a plus. Probably the best part of my dining experience. While this place isn't bad, it doesn't do anything to set itself apart from any other restaurant--and the prices leave a lot to be desired. As a long time visitor I was disappointed. Stopped in on a Wednesday night for dinner. Seated by a waitress who was carrying two drinks to another table. After 5 minutes the bus boy brought over bread and waters but no menus. After another 5 minutes a table of three were seated. Waitress came over to them and said she will get them menus. They were not that busy. As a result we got up and left. Recommend staying away from the dining room and sit in the bar if you visit. Always have had good service in the bar area. Walked in and we were immediately seated. First thing I noticed was the amazing draft beer selection. Ordered a flight, girlfriend got a glass of the pino grigio which she said was a very good one. Ordered the "famous" my pizza white pizza with eggplant, broccoli, and bacon and it was delicious. Perfect amount of cheese. Wanted a little more broccoli and eggplant, but that's just my personal preference. The large was big enough for us to take 3 slices home. Service was friendly and quick. This is an AMAZING restaurant with amazing service. I can't rave enough about it. We take our daughter who's 2 with us and the staff is so beyond friendly to her, they once even gave her a coloring pad that had never been opened before as a gift! The waitress is knowledgeable and attentive ( we usually have the same waitress) she knows our drink orders and brings us what we want without us even asking! My Place epitomizes the definition of a three star establishment on Yelp, an "A-Okay" restaurant. To be blunt, My Place serves comfort food. It offers up Americanized Italian dishes somewhat similar to the offerings at an Olive Garden (but actually homemade), pizzas, grinders, salads, and a few appetizers. There isn't much on the menu to tempt an adventurous eater, but that isn't My Place's goal. On my visit here, I ordered fusilli in vodka sauce with grilled chicken. It satisfied as well as I would have expected. Properly cooked fusilli (obviously not homemade), capable vodka sauce, underseasoned but properly cooked grilled chicken. My food reached expectations, satisfied. That said, I do believe that items on the menu are perhaps each a few dollars too expensive given their ambitions and composition. $16 for the meal I described seems a bit of a stretch to me given that I can order braised rabbit risotto for a dollar less at an upscale restaurant in my hometown of Buffalo, NY. Where My Place does possess ambitions is on the beverage side, boasting an impressive selection of domestic and imported bottled beers and a remarkable selection of beers on tap seemingly curated from all over the United States. On viewing the list, I was floored. It took time for me to arrive at a decision. On ordering though, I was frustrated. I attempted to order several imports only to be told that they had in fact ceased to carry it. With such aspirations on the beer side, the list MUST be updated to reflect current offerings. Atmosphere-wise, My Place seeks only to be pleasant. With large booths and a number of tables arrayed throughout a restaurant colored in soothing hospital-like tones, nothing of note stands out either positively or negatively. I will opine that My Place is definitely a jeans and sneakers place and certainly casual rather than upscale. In brief, it hits its mark. My lone point of contention with My Place was the service. Our overly friendly waitress appears to have likely imbibed a bit too much of their specialty brews, regularly reaching out to touch members of our party, cursing randomly at other guests, overcharging and undercharging within the same bill, and, most curiously of all, at one point regaling us with a story of how an ex-boyfriend of hers gunned down one of his girlfriends. What the heck was going on? So I suppose My Place is fine.
