Driving by you wouldn't even think to stop here. It's a tiny hole in the wall in a small strip mall behind a car wash. Next to is is a boxing place, a tanning salon, and a really dirty looking donut place. The thing is...you HAVE TO STOP AND TRY IT. This is some seriously good vegan food! My boyfriend was a vegetarian and we both really enjoy Vegan/Vegetarian food, so when this place popped up in Pasadena we were so excited. Our favorite things: Orange Chicken - it tastes so real our vegetarian friends think it's meat! Spice Noodle (Kee Mao) - best with "chicken" but good with "pepper steak" as well Spicy Eggplant Cashew Nut All their Curries! And...they have the best brown rice I've ever tasted! I absolutely love this place! Whenever my non-vegan friends ask for plant-based restaurant recommendations in the LA area, I ALWAYS recommend My Vegan. Before turning vegan I was obsessed with pad thai. Once I did the transition and discovered My Vegan's signature Pad Thai dish, I realized this lifestyle change wouldn't be so difficult. I tried the grilled chikn burger with avocado and also the fresh rolls. I was very pleased with my order.. the fresh rolls were big and filled with yummy herbs and veggies! the sauce that it comes with is like a peanut sauce and once you eat that with the soy chikn in there you can't tell the difference! healthy & delicious! I really enjoyed the burger.. the bun was a sesame bun and it added another dimension to the burger flavor wise and the portion was good I only finished half! I also got a side of sweet potato fries and they were delicious and you can taste that it was prepared in a healthy way. They weren't oily and not salted either. LOVE this place! Everything I've had here is very yummy. The wait staff are nice and very accommodating. The menu is suspiciously identical to that of Vegan Plate in Studio City so I'm not sure if they're owned by the same people. I love that place, too, so it's nice to have a lunch spot like that so close to where I work. The prices are reasonable, as well. This is definitely a unique place to eat, the best part is, you don't even have to be vegan. They have a wide variety of flavors and meat supplements. I personally like spicy food so I would recommend that if you also like spicy, you'll want to ask for it. The portions are pretty generous and some meals are served with Spring Rolls and salad. After anxiously waiting for a Thai Vegan place in Pasadena, I finally had the chance of trying it yesterday, we got there at 4:15, so we still had the opportunity to get the lunch special, we tried the Yellow curry, Kung Pao, and the broccoli, everything was very tasty and delicious the lunch special came with a generous portion of salad and Brown Rice, OY one of the owner was very gracious, over all it was a good experience, it will defnitely be a place we will keep coming back to. read more

A few co-workers and I decided to try this place, where Good Times used to be, and we were happy we took the plunge into vegan food. The service was great, and the food even better. I give it four stars because there is so much more on the menu to try before swinging my vote one way or the other. First off, I am not a vegan, or a vegetarian by any means. But we thought what the heck? Let's try it and, in any case, support a local business. The three of us had different meals - cashew nut lunch special, teriyaki chicken lunch special, and a chicken wrap. We were all very satisfied with the vegan substitutes in our dishes, and the portions were just right. We look forward to visiting My Vegan to try the rest of the vast menu. The prices are absolutely reasonable, and the variety is amazing. I never imagined all the vegan possiblities. I don't see myself converting to veganism anytime soon, but I will be recommending this place to all of my vegan, vegetarian, and meat eating friends. next time you're headed to Lucky Boy for the umpteenth time, run across the street into My Vegan for a change sans the cholesterol. read more

Two visits w/ the tribe two weeks apart, once for dinner and once for a weekend lunch. Nice service and presentation, pretty standard for a thai place. Tried pad thai, a "near" burger and fries, "near" lard na, "shrimp" tom yung gung, spicy cashew "chicken", yellow curry "fish", and red curry "chicken". Burger and fries was good, outstanding bun and toppings, everything but the "near" meat itself. All the thai stuff was passable too, the yellow curry fish better, good actually. However, subbing broccoli for gai lan reminds me that we're in Pasadena, not Hollywood. Frozen peas and carrots in the fried rice makes me think we're in Peoria. In winter. In a recession. In the last century. Whatever health benefit you think you're getting by skipping meat is erased by the oil, salt, and sugar (aka cheap tricks) suffusing all of their food. Old Town Adjacent pricing is in effect. Up-charges add up! Not absolutely trashing the place, it is acceptable overall and certainly tasty enough for vegans, and some folks like it, so I'm glad it is here as an option. Food wasn't bad, but nothing great. Went with the family and we ordered the satay tofu as an appetizer. Got the teriyaki chicken, soy fish spicy green beans (both a la carte) and P.E.T. (eggplant, tofu and pepper? I think) as entrees. Since a la carte only comes with brown rice, we didn't get to try the fried brown rice. It was kind of the standard wild mix, which I like, and they give a good bowl-shaped size of it. Service was in general quite nice and helpful, usually fast. The main guy, I'm not sure if he's the owner but he wasn't wearing the uniform, is pretty friendly and patient with questions. One thing that did get to me though was that we asked if they did small orders of pad thai, explaining that we wanted to try it since it was our first time visiting. He said that they don't do that, but he'll put it in since it's our first time. I should've asked how much it was, but my parents had asked so many questions I felt that it would be a bit much, so we just got it. Later looking at the bill I could tell that it had definitely been overpriced, even though the amount was with taxes added on and everything. My parents wanted to go and didn't want to dispute it though, since it was just a few dollars difference, but it's still rankling within me... might as well just have ordered a full portion at that price.* (oh yeah, just remembered - it would also have been a hassle because they don't write down the prices of each dish on your bill, at least for us they didn't; just the names of all the orders and then the final total at the bottom -_-) So overall... Food was okay, not bad but not really good. The dad complained about it being greasy, and how places that call themselves vegetarian take it as a right to overcharge and under-portion their dishes (unfortunately one of his few quite-true statements). When I asked my parents which place they preferred (we recently tried this other place found through yelp), they liked the organic dishes from Green Zone better. Flavors weren't really amazing in anything, though I ironically did like the pad thai, as it tastes similar to Thai Paradise, which is my fav place to get pad thai (though not so much anymore as they've raised their prices quite a bit as well...). I find that other places usually have a weird, tangy, fake-tasting sauce. I would've liked the dishes to come out hotter as well, the temperature was a bit low for the feeling of a fresh-made dish imo. I used to like this place until the employees and owner thought it was OK to have gossip sessions in their native language right out in the open disrupting what should have been a decent (not expecting fine dining here) experience. This happened on many occasions and when pointed out, the owner just got argumentative. In addition, I saw many of their "healthy" ingredients being carted in and revealed themselves to be mostly frozen stuff like their dumplings or stuff from Trader Joe's or Whole Foods ketchup on the counter. This place is perfect for a quick tasty meal. The service was very attentive and fast. I ordered the combo with red curry (no tofu) added wild mushrooms. It came with a really good salad and fried spring roll that was awesome. And my wife got the vegan pho with no tofu veggies only. Both were very good. I will say I have had better Pho with chicken broth (Simmering Pho in Gilroy, Ca) but hey thats not vegan! This was good pho though and they didn't short us on the veggies or basil. Awesome! Great Food! My wife and I were really stoked to find a brand new Thai Vegan restaurant within walking distance of our place. We were more than pleasantly surprised with the freshness, taste and great customer service. We've eaten there at least 6 times and everything we've ordered has always been great! This place is almost brand new and is pretty packed much of the time. I think word has traveled fast for this family owned business and rightfully so. My Vegan kicks ass. We went there with my husband for a late dinner, neither of us particularly in the mood for anything. Except that my husband was craving meat. I am vegan, he is not. I had the dinner special with soy chicken. For $8.95 I got fried brown rice (which was not greasy and quite tasty), a crispy spring roll, a side salad and teriyaki soy chicken over steamed veggies. The teriyaki sauce was a bit sweet for my taste, but still it was good. Although I am not a fan of fake meat, the soy chicken was good as well. The spring roll was very tasty and the salad was crisp and light. My husband got a mushroom wrap ($6.50) and french fries ($2.00). He was very impressed with the wrap. He liked the taste of the wrap itself (tortilla?) and also the ingredients and the way the ingredients were cooked (mushrooms and onions grilled together, lettuce, avocado, etc.). And this comes from a person who is generally critical of the bland taste at vegan restaurants (excluding M-Cafe de Chaya). And finally, just because I wanted to spoil myself and despite the fact that I thought I didn't have much space for it, I ordered icecream. Coconut icecream. The serving was huge, five scoops! and it was soooo delicious! I finished almost all of it, and even my husband ate some ( he is not a sweets person). It was not too creamy but not as light as a gelato either. Perfect! I didn't even want to drink water for the rest of the night just to be able to preserve the aftertaste of the icecream in my mouth! So why four stars if the food was so good? The decor, the atmosphere, the location. It's not a place for a romantic date, the decor is way too plain or that. Also, our orders were kind of confused but I wouldn't hold it against them. I had ordered steamed brown rice but got fried, my hb ordered mushroom burger but got a wrap. The waitress realized her mistake before we pointed it out and was very apologetic about that and willing to correct the order, but we didn't bother. No big problem. Oh, one more thing: Our food did not arrive at the same time. The restaurant was not that crowded, so that was bizarre. The cons: Polite service, delicious food, non-expensive, and great icecream! I am disappointed with My Vegan! My few experiences with this restaurant were 1) customer service and 2) the quality of the taste of the food. If I may, I would label this a "junk food" vegan restaurant that has comprised the real experience of those of us that truly want to go vegan. Since my visit and concerns with this restaurant, I have been very careful where and what Vegan restaurant I will eat at.....all Vegan Restaurants are not created equal. I find that it has become the "in thing" "a niche" and many are not necessary in it for the real sense of health and wellness. There is a bit of a ethnicity stigma at that restaurant that makes dining there very uncomfortable. Finally, the food may be quickly served, however the quality of the taste of the dishes certainly do not match up with their ability to serve those that are waiting. I would skip this restaurant and really read the reviews of other Vegan places before choosing to dine there. read more

Food was pretty good. Not the best Thai food I've had, especially for the price...it was $8.95, plus $1.00 for soy meat for their lunch combos. $10.00 a plate seemed a bit high to me. I felt like I was paying more just because of their location (I'm sure Pasadena/South Pasadena rent isn't cheap.) There are plenty of Thai restaurants that are more delicious and cheaper! I'm not really sure what I was thinking when I had suggested to my friends to meet up here. In fact I'm probably the last person in the world to even consider going to a vegan place. It may have been the spur of the moment and was feeling adventurous. But as I was waiting inside my car in the parking for the rest of the group, I contemplated about it. At some point I was tempted to run across the street for some pastrami. Unfortunately the group all arrived which didn't allow me time to sneak across. The restaurant feels like a cafe minus the coffee aroma filtering the air. We were quickly seated once entering inside. The menu is quite extensive, they have your typical thai dishes vegan style. Yes folks all the meat items are made of soy, they may look like shrimp, chicken or beef but the taste is different. The shrimp tasted like chicken, the chicken tasted like beef, and the beef actually did taste like beef. It was fun experiencing imitation meat but something was missing, I couldn't put my finger on it. Maybe it was lack of fat that didn't give me that heavy satisfying feeling or perhaps it was the milk used for the Thai ice tea. Something was off. Overall the experience was delightful, I can now say I've done vegan. Will I ever do it again, maybe during Lent. Until then you'll find me across the street munching on pastrami. For the vegetarians out there, this may be the haven for you. read more

I've had just about everything on their menu but the Tom Yum Noodle Soup with soy chicken is what I come back for every single time. I have been vegan for about 7 years and I've been coming to my vegan for about 5 yrs. I love to eat and I have tried almost all the vegan food in the Los Angeles area at least once. My vegan stands out as always having great vegan Thai food. I always love the food and I've never had a bad experience here. I normally do chicken satay with pad kee mao and Thai iced tea. This review is based purely off of customer service. I called in earlier today and asked if I could put in an order because I was in a rush but wanted to eat there. They said they didn't take orders ahead of time. So I went ahead and ordered takeout. I then went and picked up the food and left the generous tip and sat down to eat my food and read my book because I only had 15 minutes before my shift started at work. One of the workers came up to me and told me that I wasn't allowed to eat the takeout food there. After explain the situation to her she said there's nothing she could do and she kick me out. I asked if I can I eat outside and not bother the other customers which there were only two people in the entire restaurant.
