This is my 2nd time ordering delivery from here. The first time the basics were good and the owner was extremely nice. I had the drunken noodles and it was great except for the chicken. This time I decided to get the same thing without the chicken just vegetables. The vegetables were completely undercooked. I could not even eat them I had to take them out. However, the noodles and the sauce on them were tasty. The Fish sauce that comes with the Thai wings was great also. I would just like my vegetables to be cooked and not raw. I would order here again and maybe try something different. I love Yellow Curry so I will try that next. Overall there are kinks but the base flavors of the dishes are good. read more

Delicious Tom Yun coconut milk soup, got it with the shrimp. Also ordered 2lbs of Thai style crawfish, 2lb minimum for $8.99. Delicious style of crawfish, unique flavoring with some garlic and onion pieces. We also had the red curry fried rice with chicken which was pretty good but the chicken could have been better. It was also very cold inside, on the way to the bathroom I noticed the inside temperature said 69 degrees, a little too cold for my liking but will be back. read more

The food here is very good. It's a shame their staff is wretched! I was waiting at the bar today for my to go order (I won't dine in here any longer) and the waitress came up and handed me the restaurant's phone and insisted I give another customer driving directions. I am happy to help others when I can but I was kinda turned off that I was interrupted to do something that she should have been able to do herself, and she was rude to boot! My reasons for no longer dining in.. Wait staff is unattentive. They are too busy socializing at the bar to wait on tables. I ordered green curry with tofu to-go from Naam Khao. The food is more traditional/less Americanized than any other Thai restaurant I've found in Houston. So if that's what you're looking for, I highly recommend Naam Khao. The taste wasn't quite what I was looking for, but did enjoy it. I have visited Naam Khao quiet a few time now and I always come back when I want a good Thai Curry, it never disappoints! Lunch or dinner the service and friendliness is always there, the last time I went there we ordered to go and had Green Curry, Red Curry, Pad Thai and Mango Sticky Rice all good and really enjoyable. The heat level is high so be careful what you ask for, I personally enjoy hot food and can eat easily a 3 level, level 5 is extremely hot but go for it if you enjoy it. The patio is fun and at nights you will find the bar crowd with band and karaoke, so keep that in mind. Will come back for sure read more

So, I've been to Naam Khao for lunch 4 times now. I have really enjoyed the food all four times. The first time I ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice with chicken. For lunches 2 and 3, I ordered the Spicy Basil Fried Rice. Once with chicken and the next time with beef. For the fourth visit to Naam Khao, I ordered the Spicy Snow Peas with beef. So far, if I had pick a favorite, I would go with the Spicy Basil Fried Rice (with chicken). The very spicy snow peas would come at a close second though. As Eva K mentioned, the first time we had lunch here, there was a problem with their computer. So you had to pay with cash. I would have cared less about this problem if they would have informed us before we ordered/ate our food. Since then, I have had no more complaints about the service. read more

Had lunch there today (Tuesday). Green curry was on the menu and I ordered it "spicy but not painfully spicy". Immediately, a small bowl of delicious hot rice soup appeared at my table. It had little pieces of ginger in it and really hit the spot. Apparently, this is served with lunch on Tuesday. The green curry was hot (temperature wise) and perfectly hot (taste wise). The green beans were too hard still but I simply waited to eat them last and by then they had indeed cooked a bit more in the curry. I expected the rice that was served with it to be Thai sticky rice. It was not. This was followed by a small bowl of (taro?) tapioca pudding which was actually kind of dull and too sweet for my taste. The only minus in the otherwise tasty and satisfying lunch experience. Met a buddy here after work on a Friday. Cheap beer, good happy hour, large selection. Great neighborhood spot, stuck away in the corner of a supermarket. I drank dark San Miguel, Singha, Tiger, and another beer which slips my mind. Appetizers were delicious and it was nice to have non-American bar food. Edamame, pan fried dumplings, and egg rolls that were more akin to lumpia were delicious. Definitely made in house. Felt more like a bar with a restaurant but the food wasn't lacking. My buddy owns a restaurant and he thought it was top notch. If I lived in the area I would be a local. I'll have to stop by after work and try some entrees. read more

I should have walked out as soon as i walked in because the first thing I noticed was like 6 people during lunch hour in energy corridor! Now thats just sad. I ordered panang curry with chicken. The waiter said as its not in our specials for today therefore it will be dinner price. I was fine with that, thinking so it will be fresh and specially made for me. First comes a bowl of soup. It looked like a kid had thrown up rice in that bowl because it was rice mush no salt lots of corn starch to make it thick served to customers. I bet its the left over rice they use and thats probably why they even serve soup! Then comes my panang curry. The consistency of curry was literally like broth! I thought its supposed to be thick creamy and velvety!?? Chicken was so over cooked and chewy i couldnt even cut it easily with a knife. And the taste! There wasnt any! I had to put some salt to check if any flavors would stand out after, nope! Just horrible horrible food. I dont understand how you can serve this crap to customers. This is some of the best Thai food in Houston. It is not a very well known place outside of the area it is located in, but definitely a must try if you like Thai food. Here is some advice, ask for the REAL menu, not the watered down menu for the Americanized palette. It is totally different and you will get the authentic menu items. Everything tasted really good and as authentic as you can get, as it seems one of the chefs in the back is Thai. If you want spicy, ask for Thai spicy and it will make you pour sweat down your face lol. Their Beef Jerky and Thai sausage appetizers brought me back to my childhood when I would eat it all the time with my family and neighbors. Get the sticky rice with the papaya salad, and the tiger cry. I need to go back soon read more

After all the generally great reviews on food quality but warnings on service, we should have known better. I took the family here today for dinner. Service started out promising (Waitress was nice,) but then in an mostly empty dining room she forgot about bringing an extra plate. We ordered the Crispy Spring Rolls as my wife and daughter are vegetarian. For $6.95 we really expected better. The spring rolls were greasy, likely fried at too low a temperature and the filling was forgettable. Wife and kid shared the Red Curry (tofu) with rice. Even ordered mild it was too spicy for the 3 year old so she ate plain rice. However, for my wife and I it was fine and tasted good. I ordered the Spicy Cashew Nuts with tofu thinking it was vegetarian. Turns out it had a healthy dose of fish sauce with it. However, the taste was very good for me as I don't like the typical Thai curry drenched in coconut milk. One note it was a very oily dish with a layer floating over the entire plate. The cashews and Umami, sweet and hot flavors were balanced perfectly. However, it would be nice if the menu items denoted which dishes are truly vegetarian. It took multiple attempts to flag down the waitress to get a plate as she forgot at least twice. The bad service plus the generally "meh" dishes will mean we won't be back to NK as there are several other good options nearby. For us, the quality king at a higher price is Ginger Thai near I-10 and Hwy 6. Close to NK there's Thai House which has great service and good food. Despite our bad experience I'd say try NK for yourself but first go to these places I mentioned for some great Thai food. read more

i have only ordered takeout from here, but it's legit thai food. my gf and i always order pad thai and pad see ew, but i've gotten some of the other dishes too and they have all been solid. you get a lot of bang for your buck, especially for lunch - comes with a soup/eggroll/dessert. the food doesn't come overly sweet like some other thai restaurants. the pad see ew is the better of the two noodle dishes imo. the actual restaurant has a cool bar kind of atmosphere, but it has plenty of tables to sit and eat. while waiting to pick up food i noticed the staff was super nice and attentive. i am a regular now, which says a lot! read more

Heard about this place from a friend... and let me just put it out there that I try to go into a new Thai place not thinking about Thai Gourmet (my all time fav) or else I compare. Their Laos papaya salad is damn good. I asked for hot but I preferred Thai hot however my friend doesn't eat as spicy as we so we settled for hot. Had the right amount of kick for me although my friend was dying. oops. Pad Ka Prow- too much green beans not enough beef and basil IMO. Beef Jerky- tasty! Comes with a stinky sauce but us asians are used to those flavors. LOL. Ckn wings- your normal every day chicken wing flavored oh so lightly but also comes w/ the stinky sauce. Not bad but I've had better Plaa Rad Prik- Good size tilapia and it came out looking amazing. Lack a bit of flavor IMO but good enough to eat. This is one of my spots for lunch in the Energy Corridor area. Although I'm not sure how they're staying in business because it is always empty whenever I'm here for lunch. They have a good selection for lunch; my favorite is pad-see-ew. Most of the dishes run about $9 each. Just for dinning in, you'll get a cup of soup for appetizer and a cup of desert as a compliment. I've had a mild obsession with Thai food since first trying it in college (yeah, I know, I was a bit of a late-comer to the style), but where I lived at the time, I basically had one Thai restaurant to go to. When my wife and I moved to West Houston though, all of a sudden, the choices seem endless. Well, after a few years, I've given most of them a try at least. Of the places in my near vicinity, this is my favorite. Yeah, there's a couple of places farther into town that I would give 5 stars to, but farther into town means "special occasion," whereas if you have a good neighborhood joint, that can mean "spur of the moment," which is always fun. I've tried several things there, and what I will say about them all is that the flavors are fresh and distinct, and they are well balanced in the dish, so that every bite is going to be a medley of tastes and ingredients without any one being overpowering. I would definitely be here a lot more than I am if I wife liked Thai more, but alas! So it goes sometimes! read more

I am once again, on the YELP train. Topic the ever evolving "Naam Khao (NK)". DAY 1: I have a contemporary who asked me to meet them for a tasty libation. When I asked him where he was he said, "NK, get over here!". I thought about it and decided, because he is such a good guy, to revisit NK (Notwithstanding, I expected the NK cadre to present with the usual psychodrama, drunkeness and slipshod service etc.). GUESS WHAT . . . . My friend was seated at the interior bar when I arrived, we typically sit outdoors (first bad sign I thought). I entered and was greeted in a FRIENDLY way by the beautiful bartender (who I know from past experience is also a fantastic Thai cuisine aficianado and gastronomy practitioner). Furthermore, I noticed the proprietor seated at the bar as well, we did not speak initially because she was upset with me and her feelings were hurt as the result of my previous (and on point) scathing review. However, it was never personal. I happen to really like the lady. Nevertheless, I was treated professionally i.e. employees were attentive, responsive, and possessed good attitudes AND WERE NOT DRUNK which was conducive to me spending my money, as opposed to turning around and walking out to spend my money elsewhere. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the company of my friend, and the other patrons, as well as, that of the employees and owner. By golly I'd like to think they finally got it. DAY 2: I have a contemporary who asked me to meet them for a tasty libation. When I asked him where he was he said, "NK, get over here!". I thought about it and decided, because THE EXPERIENCE ON DAY ONE WAS SO GREAT, TO AGAIN HEAD OVER TO "NAAM KHAO" AND SPEND SOME OF MY HARD EARNED MONEY! The place was ROCKING. There was a band pumping out some music. Looked like a private party. EVERYONE WAS HAPPY AS FAR AS I COULD DISCERN. Even the Matriarch/Owner was WORKING ((she actually took my order (OUTSIDE)) CLEANED THE CIGAR ASHTRAY AND BROUGHT ME MY DRINK FAST!! I was shocked!!!!! The SERVICE WAS GREAT! THERE IS A GOD!!! I hope they stay the course. It is a different positive vibe at NK because it seemed like the owners and employees are WORKING FOR THE CUSTOMERS AND NOT TO ENTERTAIN THEMSELVES TO THE CUSTOMERS DETRIMENT AND EXPENSE. We tried out Naam Khao for the first time tonight and loved it. The atmosphere was fantastic outside with lights and music. It felt like it was just a bunch of friends hanging out together. The waitress was very informative and helpful throughout the night. The owner also came around and was very friendly as well. This is such a good restaurant for take out. I would eat in as they have some questionable things going on between the staff and older men. The curries are amazing. I love the yellow curry, red curry, and Penang curry. My favourite thing on the menu is the red curry rice. It's spicy and definitely has a red curry flavour to it. I also love the pad see ew and pad Thai. The spring rolls are just average, but I get them every time still. The chicken satay is so good though!! read more

It's located in a strip mall on Eldrdige. There's a little fountain in the front with a few trees. Walked inside, and it looked decent. The bar area was pretty large, and there were plenty of tables. The food on the other hand...not so great. Went with a group of five people, and our food took forever to come. I ordered the Pad-See-Ew, my go-to dish at any Thai restaurant. My husband and I always enjoy our meals every time we get a chance to go to this restaurant as we live quite a distance away. Their service is top notch and food, oh my god, the food is always amazing. If you've never tried this place out, it's a must! They are truly the best Thai restaurant and I've been to plenty. Just wish we lived closer because this will definitely be on our "date night" list. Today, we had the pad Thai and pineapple fried rice. We were amazed of how large the portions were and what comes with the lunch menu (soup, appetizer, entree, and dessert). Spicy Basil Fried Ride and Red Curry please. This meal is a staple in our diet when we want some quick take-out that tastes good. The price isn't that bad and the food is good. We've eaten there once and the service was a little slow, but we usually get carry-out, which is top notch. Also, one time they switched our order with someone else that order to-go at the same time and we didn't notice until we were home. Luckily we liked what the other person ordered.
