There are two nail salons in my neighborhood. I live right by BaseCoat but prefer to walk a few blocks to Nailbox. It is my personal preference. I have nothing but good things to say about Nailbox. I am there every 3-4 weeks because my nails grow too long in that time but my manicure manages to stay pristine. I get the premium or the gel manicure. I am very grateful to my regular nail techs, Jasmine and Kaylie, who have been so kind to me and all my requests. They are meticulous and are adept at applying the different nail art techniques that I prefer, namely chrome and the different rockstar methods. I recently had a new nail tech work on my nails and while she was good, it was not the service I was used to. My girl, Kaylie, was quick to address any issues I had. I recognize that these ladies work hard all day dealing with people like me on a regular basis and at the end of the day they still have to go home to take care of their families. I made an appointment last minute, and asked them to do cat and polka dots designs on my nails. It was my first time splurging and getting nail art, so I was specific in what I was looking for. Nailbox went above and beyond my expectation. Now, everyone is checking out my nails. I mean, even my cats are jealous. Meow. The entire experience was very relaxing and fun. I came in last minute without an appointment and I was able to see someone for a manicure which was a plus. I like the girl who did my nails (Jasmine), however everything else about my experience here was pretty negative. Really weird depressing vibes inside this place. Everyone looked like they hated their jobs and no one greeted when I came in or even said hello. It was almost like they didn't want customers. There were techs just sitting around the tables sleeping and someone needed help at the front desk and my nail technician had to keep getting up while other techs sat around sleeping. Woohoo! My very first, first review! I LOVE this place. It's tough to find a good nail shop, so I'm glad that I finally found my go-to. So sad that I forgot the name of my person, but she was AMAZING. Super easy to talk to and helped me figure out what I wanted on the spot. I almost don't want to leave this review because this spot is so amazing that I don't really want to share! They have the coolest, best priced manicures in the downtown LA area. You can get chrome, holographic, glass nails, cute designs, glitter.... Basically anything you can dream up! and their attention to detail is impeccable! I chipped two of my nails the day after I came in for a holographic mani, and they were so amazingly sweet about fixing them for me three days later. I've come here a couple times and enjoy the service. However, I dislike that when you get a manicure at no point are you asked to wash your hands. After removing the polish and any other work they do to prep for the polish to be applied again, your hands get dirty. But instead of asking you to wash your hands they proceeded through the manicure and then massage lotion in at the end. This is with the same gloves on and whatever else still on your hands. I would love if they would incorporate washing your hands prior to applying the polish. read more

One time, I came in for a pedicure and I was that annoying client who asked for a color, and after it was painted on all 10 toes I said " I don't like this color" and Katie gladly offered to paint all 10 toes all over again. Wanted to love this place based on the reviews. I had requested a gel manicure and pedicure. The place is super cute and decorated to fit the arts district appeal. I had dipping powder on but they charged me $15 to get it removed even when I didn't have a full set. One of the girls didn't know what the dipping powder method was. Anyways, my main frustration is that my gel manicure started peeling in less than 24 hours! If I'm paying $130 for a gel mani and regular pedi then it should last longer than 24 hours. Although they work in the customer care, beauty, and healthcare industry, the professionals at this place has such a bad vibe to it. I speak Vietnamese fluently but I prefer speaking English and so of course I spoke English to them and soon after I'm glad I did because they didn't expect that I would understand them. I was here for a pedicure for my son and myself while my partner got her manicure done and I listened to the entire place talk making fun of their customers and belittle the service they request for as if it's such a hassle. Mind you, the customers pay and their job is literally to perform these services. If you it's such a hassle then don't work here. As they were doing our pedicures, Nhi & Ivonne made fun of my son. He has a tendency to pull his toe nails instead of cutting them but they were talking about how a big kid would be biting their toe nails. I could've corrected them but I stayed quiet to see what else they had to say but it continues. Not only that but Ivonne even complained about how tedious it is to do a buff clean for my son toe nails and how straining it is for her eyes but ma'am we're even paying you extra for that. I would have asked them to not do it but I didn't want my son to know they were talking about him and he wanted it done cuz it looks cleaner. And then there's Nhi talking about how nice it is to do my pedicure cuz all I want is to clean and she doesn't have to do all these other stuff. It's ridiculous. All the customers deserve their rightful respect. As I'm waiting for my partner to get her manicure done I hear them talking about two customers that just came in and the entire crew was talking about how they're only doing plain manicures pushing them around to see who was willing to work on them and it's so fucked up because apparently they're regulars here. I could have told them but the elder mother and son seem to be enjoying themselves oblivious to their servicers. I hope they don't find out because they looked so happy. I will never come back again and I really hope their attitude changes. I've been to many nail salons and I have many family members working in high end salons including celebrities. Pros: Good response time on Yelp. Love the open front floor plan. Woman who did my pedicure was meticulous. Essie gel polish for an extra $5.00. Parking free with validation Cons: Woman who did my manicure lacked attention to detail. She only briefly massaged and put lotion one hand & arm and not the other. She also never asked me what shape I wanted my nails. I ended up with square shaped nails with very sharp edges. Thirdly, I asked her NOT to file or buff the top of my natural nails as they are quite thin. She said "yeah" and proceeded to do just that. Overall, I really liked the woman who did my pedicure. The other woman just seemed to lack good customer service and seemed distracted. Unsure if I'd be back when there are places that have better service. It's always so hard to find a REALLY GOOD nail salon but NAILBOX is one of the very few nail salons I would actually recommend. Service is amazing and salon is clean AND beautiful. They are so nice and really welcoming, not just trying to push you in and out. They gave my friend and I a quick walk through of their polishes and offered us tea/water. No rush or push at all (and we were an hour late, oops!) They were super nice Anne was my nail tech and she is THE BEST. She is so good and what she does and really creative and pays attention to detail. I came in with a general idea and she made it better with her design, and it's better than I what I originally wanted. :) I'll definitely be coming back. I didn't get my nails done here- but my friend did. I like that the air circulation is really good. I usually get nauseated at the nail salon but this one is good! I'll post a picture. But Sophia did a great job making sure all the acrylics are off from my nails and she was super gentle with my hands! Went here on my lunch break to have only my acrylics removed since I didn't have enough time to get a service done. Typically what costs no more than $10 at any other salon, the receptionist at Nailbox LA said they charge $20 (LIES). Although, that was more than I was planning on spending for such a simple service, I agreed since I was already there and short on time. During the removal process, the technician was very rough with my nails, clipping them vertically and very close to my natural nail. She also burned me with the sanding tool multiple times & didn't file, buff or shape them at all, I literally could've just done this myself at home. When it was over, I went to pay and the receptionist came back with a new price of $25. It's not a good look when businesses bait and switch customers. It pisses people off and here I am leaving a damaging post and you lost any future business from me. Pretty disappointing and a waste of $25 for such a SIMPLE service that left my nails destroyed. read more

I had a great first time experience. I was a walk-in at about 4pm on a Friday for a gel mani. I was immediately seated and offered water or green tea. Jasmine, the nail artist, was precise and efficient, she did a really great, painless job on my manicure. Any mistakes she made were few and small and she fixed them right away. I was finished in about an hour (I had asked for some nail art). The total was about $70 including tip, but only because I asked for four nails to have a design. It was $6 extra per nail design... I think that's a little steep considering the simple design BUT because Jasmine did such a fantastic job with my nails, I was willing to pay the price. Will be back soon! read more

I had really high hopes when I came in to Nailbox LA about 10 days ago. I called ahead and let them know I wanted a gel mani with a simple design- I had been thinking about a Rosegold reverse French like I had seen in some of the reviews. I think I just got an inexperienced nail tech. I don't remember her name and I probably wouldn't post it anyway, but I was unable to get the design I had been thinking about when it became clear she couldn't do it, so I settled for a glitter accent nail. In hindsight I'm glad I didn't pay the extra $25 for the French! The gel polish was put on too thick and is now lifting at the cuticle which not only looks awful, but causes my hair to snag and pull out in the shower when I'm washing it. She did tell tale no no's like using her own finger nail to push back my cuticle and clean up messy polish, which is gross. She also failed to completely remove my previous dark color which could be seen on the edges peeking through my light polish. All Incredibly frustrating considering I paid $35 for a mani plus $5 for removal of my previous gel which is customarily included in the gel mani price. I'm so disappointed and can't wait to get this gel off my nails. They were all very kind so I'm giving a generous 3 stars. I also think it really depends on the tech you get. But for a place that is claiming a higher end experience, I've gotten far superior gels for $25 out the door. Also, my gels typically last over two full weeks looking quite good so it's not my nails. I waited to see how the nails held up before reviewing and it only reinforced my initial thoughts that I had been ripped off when the gels started lifting after less than a week. Their prices are tremendously expensive (comparable to any nail salon in Koreatown) but the job was mediocre. My gel nails only last a week and half and they started to lift and peel off. Not to mention, the design I had asked for was completely botched. The salon itself is very cute and visibly appealing but I won't be coming back. This place is SPECTACULAR!!! A must go!! I originally found this place after eating at ediBOL with my girls friends and wanted to check it out after brunch. Customer Service: The owners are very caring and helpful from color selection to advice on what services fit my need. Honesty is key and Nailbox is truly exceptional. I asked my technicians for Callus Removal as other places always tell me that I need it, but was impressed to find that my technician (after reviewing my feet) informed me that I didn't need it!! That was the first time ever I felt I got an honest opinion as I was curious and didn't think I had much callus!! Aesthetics: The look and feel of Nailbox Is beautiful!! From the decor to the cleanliness of the whole operation, I am very pleased! They even use cooper bowls with lining which are hard to find!! I hate the spa chairs with dirty piping which are used at a lot of Nail Salons and are not cleaned properly after each customer. Plant wall is amazing!! Price: Prices are definitely affordable and well thought out. There are cheaper places but you pay for what you get. I would rather pay a slight premium for cleanliness and aesthetics.
